Rin eventually found a philips-head screwdriver tucked away in one of the lab drawers and after a quick re-check of her text messages absconded with it straight for the dormitories.
It was strange not having to go as far back as she's used to for a project, even one seeming so quick and small.
Room one-hundred and thirteen.
Thirteen - lucky for some, unlucky for others.
It was an entertaining little thought as she moved to knock on the door to the room. The resulting amused look on her face kept.

Jordan opened the door and gave Rin a smile. "Thanks," he said. "I promise I'll return it when I'm done with the project." He pushed the door open a little further; behind him, the room was in an unusual degree of disarray, the mattresses leaned up against the wall and two bedframes half dismantled in the far corner.

Rin gave the mess a bit of a startled sound before looking back to Jordan, "Do you need help? That looks like a bit of a project for just one set of hands."
She made no move to enter though, not without invitation though her curiosity was teeming at the moment.

"Sure, if you don't have anything else to do. I think these are designed to be sectional," Jordan said, stepping aside to let Rin in. "The plates that fasten the frames together can be installed on either side of the frame. It's probably cheaper to make a larger frame out of smaller frames rather than making a whole new one," he mused aloud.

"Not at all, wouldn't be trolling my cell phone for s**t to do if I were busy," there was a giddy playful tone to Rin's voice as she followed him further inside the room. The mess looked even worse close up, this just wouldn't do.
"So basically you're trying to turn two beds into one big one?" she mused aloud, trying to keep the amusement out of her tone this time.

"Pretty much," Jordan said, and shot a slightly sheepish look at Rin. "Shoving two standard frames together creates a gap. A small one, yeah, but that tends to end up with the frames getting shoved apart if you lie on it wrong."
He leaned over and tapped one of the corners of the frame next to the wall. "I got part of it apart with my pocketknife, and then I discovered that I needed a real screwdriver. I appreciate the loan."

Rin brandished the screwdriver at him. She didn't really need to know the details of this project, already having figured out the need, the horrible filthy need.
"I guess I could try to use Byr to disassemble at the other end," she fished his pocket knife form out of her pocket and seemed to be thoughtfully searching his contents for an appropriate philips head.
Helping~
Such a drama queen. They're cheap little screws, they are no match for you.
She brandished Byr's little screw bit with a smile, "Where shall I start?"

Jordan took the screwdriver and stepped into the open space of the far bed frame. He glanced up with interest as she took out what seemed to be a pocketknife. "Is that your weapon? That's handy. Ferros is more decorative than useful when unsummoned."
Hey!
It's true, Jordan laughed. "Here, if you could get the outer corner there while I work on this one - I'm taking the side rail off the inner one, and then we can use the kickplates to attach to the other frame."

One side of the rail came loose; Jordan had propped his knee under the rail that supported the headboard, and he caught the outer rail before it could drop. "There's one side," he said. "Let me know when you have that side loose. You're taking out the screws on the side, right?"

"Yeah, yeah.," Rin looked a bit shifty as she moved to do that hoping he wouldn't notice. At least it wasn't long before her side popped off too and she held it up slightly.
"Now what?"

Jordan politely failed to notice Rin's oversight. He stretched over to grab the side of the other frame and drag it closer. "See the extra holes drilled in the outside here? I'm betting that's why the plates have this long space instead of a single screw hole. Use the same screw, but place it in the other end of the space there. It should fit right into the hole."
He suited action to words as he spoke, aligning the two frames and starting to fasten them together. "Having help cuts the work time in half, at least," he added. "Thanks."

His words seemed to confuse more than inspire that was until he gave a demonstration which seemed to click enough for her to repeat the process on her end, "No problem, room needs cleaning up a bit after even... will there be pieces of bed left over you think?"

"Just the one rail, probably. It looks more complicated than it is. These things are super cheap. I wonder if they give you better stuff when you get promoted, or if it's just these things and you have to buy your own if you want better? I bet it's the latter." Jordan tightened the fourth screw and tugged at the rail to test the fit. It held firmly. "Then again, it's not like we're paying utilities or anything. It may not be a free ride, but I suppose we can be relatively comfortable while we're on company time."

"Yeah," she didn't want to admit her disappointment at a likely lack of leftovers, she was fine to keep helping all the same as she gave her side a testing tug.
"Gotta be careful too, some of these screws look worn down even, if you go to get any of it replaced definitely consider the screws first," Rin tried to offer helpfully.
"Okay, what's next?"
