This was the fourth time that Kilian had set out on a dragon hunt. He had practiced for so long but still, his hopes were not high for a victory. He had been defeated all three times before and he really expected no less than defeat this time. His shoulders sagged as he pushed his way through low hanging branches in search of a Ysali dragon yet again.

Kilian was so lost in thought that he didn’t hear the noises come from the other side of the clearing he had just entered. Suddenly, a blur of green shot out from the trees and jumped over Kilian’s head. He stumbled back, losing his balance and falling to the forest floor. “Really?!” He shouted out as he pounded his fists onto the ground.

In the next instant Kilian heard a growling sound close behind him and could even feel the hot breath of the dragon. He jumped up from the ground, not even bothering to dust the dirt off of his clothes. This was no time for primping, afterall. He took an offensive stance, ready and willing to attack the dragon. The Ysali took a step forward and at the same time Kilian took a step back.

He was not going to make the first move. He would stay calm and assess the situation as best he could before making a move. He had been brash and acted too quick in his past dragon hunts. This time, he would not make that mistake.


It didn’t take long for the dragon to lose it’s patience and attack. It lunged towards Kilian, it’s teeth bared. Kilian waited until the last second to jump out of the way. At the same time, he pushed off the ground and jumped into the air. As he came down, he extended his foot out and his heel crashed into the top of the dragon’s head, pounding it into the ground.

Kilian jumped back out of the dragon’s reach and raced around to it’s backside before it had a chance to recover. Pulling out a small knife he had decided to bring along, he jumped up onto the dragon’s back and plunged the knife in just the right spot, enabling him to take down his very first dragon. With a sense of pride, Kilian gathered the dragon orb he’d earned up and headed home. He was dirty and tired but wouldn’t have it any other way that day.
