Teacher Profiles XXXXXName: Philip Kearnsey XXXXXAge: Twenty-eight XXXXXGender: Male XXXXXAbility: Matter disintegration XXXXXClasses Taught: Phil teaches the Fine Arts (music, art and drama) and a couple of second-language classes for all grades. As you can imagine, this keeps him quite busy. XXXXXSpecialty: He is the mentor for most students whose powers have a naturally destructive edge: pyrokinetics, psychic weapons, that kind of thing all falls under Phil's hand. XXXXXAppearance: The first thing anyone would notice about Phil are his pale green eyes, which look oddly out of place against longish, tousled brown-black hair and deep brown skin. He has a dazzling smile when he deigns to offer it, but it shows up quite rarely: generally, his expression is neutral at best, sombre or morose the rest of the time. His face and body are all planes and angles; he doesn't have a lot of excess fat or muscle at all, and he's built rather on the thin side as well as being quite tall, standing around six-two. He dresses well, though he shies away from bright colours or patterns, and he has a smooth, warm voice that's very soothing to listen to. XXXXXBio: Philip was born in a small, conservative, maniacally religious town where he was one of the few non-white children around. As a result, he was unmercifully bullied for most of his youth. Every time they started in on him, he was conscious of something twisting and bubbling inside him, threatening to spill over. He learned to run, learned how to hide, and every time he managed to escape them and keep that bubbling feeling contained.
Until the last time. The last time when a twelve-year-old Phil was cornered, scared, and positive they were going to seriously hurt him. He doesn't remember what happened; the only thing he recalls is a disgusting gory mess, screaming that sounded distant to his ears, and the sound of police sirens. He was sent off to Brookrose by his parents shortly after that.
Phil grew up at Brookrose, never going back home and rarely hearing from his family. When he turned fourteen, he was pulled out of the usual run of classes and put in 'advanced' ones, which he quickly learned were an euphemism for training classes. He was taught how to use his powers sparingly and with care, and as he watched his old classmates slowly begin to break, he understood why they were really there - but he forced himself not to care.
Upon graduation, he was offered a position as a teacher at Brookrose. XXXXXAnything else: Most of the students that Philip has mentored in his time at the school have come out the other end alive. Some days, it almost feels like enough. XXXXXUsername: SilentShadowDreamer ~ XXXXXName: Vivienne McCullens XXXXXAge: Thirty-two XXXXXGender: Female XXXXXAbility: Accelerated Probability - the ability to see what choice one should make when confronted with a situation, to predict the outcomes of certain situations, and then to accelerate oneself along that path of causality immediately. XXXXXClasses Taught: English, high school level XXXXXSpecialty: Vivienne helps tutor the more unpredictable students, the ones prone to violent outbursts or sudden mood swings and the like. XXXXXAppearance: Vivienne has a light complexion, easy to tan but slow to lighten. Her long black hair is always up in a neat bun; she stares coldly with grey eyes from behind half-moon spectacles while her mouth is a firm slash of disapproval. She wears very proper attire, usually a collared shirt and a skirt or pants belted at her hips. Few call her tall, though she has a rather aesthetic look to her, with the lean legs and hourglass figure. XXXXXBio: Brought up in a small family of four in a little town by the ocean, Vivienne was a normal child in every way--smiling, laughing, getting into trouble--except for the fact that, as she got older, she began to display an unsettling knack for "predicting" the future. At first, her parents and older brother noticed nothing wrong; the way she so intuitively seemed to know things seemed innocent, blameless, simple. She was simply a dream child, knowing what to say in every situation, always on her best behavior, even doing chores and tasks before being told to do it.
Years passed. She grew. Things changed. Her father regularly hosted card night, inviting his friends over for dinner. Roughly eight years old by that time, Vivienne (or Vivi, as her family knew her then) was allowed to watch so long as she didn't bother daddy and his friends. After a while, her father began to notice her odd way of watching the game, making a face while he made a bad bet and grinning as he was handed a face-down card that later proved to be instrumental to his winning hand. He began to realize she could tell when and how to win, or, inversely, when and how to lose. Secretly he began to train her to watch the game, then signal him what to do.
At school, things were a little different. Vivienne did amazingly well at sports, tests with multiple-choice questions, the like. People began to notice.
One day she was crossing the street at the crosswalk, minding her own business when out of nowhere a pickup truck careened around the corner, heading straight toward her. Onlookers cried out in horror, tried to get the girl's attention, but to no avail. Somehow, however, she was able to dodge the vehicle and end up on the other side of the street almost instantly, something no one should ever be able to do (unless thrown by the force of impact, but that was hardly the case here). Instead of relief, Vivienne saw only fear.
The authorities were waiting for her at home that day. Her town had a no-tolerance policy regarding the strange children and forced her from her family, despite her parents' protests. The police held her in their custody before taking her to Brookrose. She was eleven at the time.
The faculty at the school immediately realized the usefulness of her ability. They taught her from day one how to control her gift, how to repress it when she needed to appear normal, and how to use it in a normal fashion so as not to stand out. Seeing that following their instructions would get her places (rather than the broken road she saw ahead should she disobey--and the struggles and lives of the upperclassmen were visible to even the naked eye), Vivienne did as she was told. During her years as a student, she excelled in class and in her special training, leading to her being offered a job after graduating. XXXXXAnything else: Her ability makes it seem as if she has almost inhuman reflexes. It's very difficult--nigh on impossible, really--to catch her off guard. XXXXXUsername: Talon StarDrifter~

Student Profiles XXXXXName: Celia Rasan XXXXXAge: Twelve XXXXXGender: Female XXXXXGrade: Seven XXXXXAbility: She has the ability to see and communicate with the dead. There are a lot of them around Brookrose. XXXXXAppearance: Celia is a tiny little girl who looks closer to eight or nine than the preteen she is. She has fine white-blonde hair that goes halfway down her back and tends to hang limp, with long bangs that fall into her light-brown eyes most of the time. Usually she's seen wearing it in a braid in an attempt to look older, which doesn't work. With very round cheeks that are usually quite pink and a stubborn chin, she hasn't yet outgrown her 'baby face'. Nor, for that matter, has she outgrown her baby's body. She is still shaped like a little girl, and she's still got a little bit of baby fat, but she's rapidly begun to lose weight since coming to Brookrose. XXXXXBio: Celia lived in an old mining town for most of her life. There were few people left there, because the old mine was nearly played out, and there was little left in the town but memories. That was all fine and dandy for most people, but for Celia, it was a special kind of hell; she could see all those memories, speak to the victims of every mining accident - if she chose to. But she was only a little girl, and the things she could see terrified her.
She had had multiple nervous breakdowns by the time she was ten years old, and had been in and out of psychiatric hospitals several times. Her parents were desperate for some sort of explanation, and when she turned twelve, they sent her to a child therapist. At first, Celia wasn't inclined to talk to the woman. But gradually, she began to whisper and finally to speak the things she'd held back.
The therapist wasn't inclined to believe her at first, either, but Celia found ways to prove that she was telling the truth. After a few sessions of this back-and-forth of trust, the therapist referred her parents to Brookrose. An invitation from the school was promptly sent, and her parents accepted it on her behalf.
She's been here since the start of the semester, and in her eyes, things are worse than ever. XXXXXAnything else: She's too afraid of the ghosts she sees to want to communicate with them, but they won't leave her alone. It's like they're trying to tell her something... XXXXXUsername: SilentShadowDreamer XXXXXName: Kayle Collins XXXXXAge: Sixteen XXXXXGender: Male XXXXXGrade: Ten XXXXXAbility: Pyrokinesis. Kayle likes heat and light, and feels a strong connection with fire. XXXXXAppearance: Kayle is a tall, skinny, gawky boy who is all legs, arms and uncoordinated movements; he knows it and he's rather embarrassed about it, but not enough to worry about it overmuch. He does tend to knock things over if he's not careful, though. His pale skin is nearly ghostly-white and never seems to darken no matter how often he's outside. Very dark brown hair frames his face and tends to be rather messy - he generally considers 'brushing it' to be running his fingers through it - and his eyes are similarly dark. His clothing tends to be rather slouchy and a bit too big for him, but he tries to stay reasonably well-put-together. XXXXXBio: Throughout his early years, his life was pretty average. Kayle was an only child, a bit of a shut-in who preferred to be alone rather than play with other kids. And if a few odd things occurred around his family - he could stick his fingers in candle-flames and touch hot stoves with no pain or burns, if a lighter wasn't working he could find a way to 'make it work' to light the woodstove - they tended to ignore it because there really didn't seem to be much of an issue.
As he got older, though, the incidents got brighter, hotter and more and more difficult to ignore. Things crested when his best friend, a boy he'd been close to throughout his life, committed suicide due to bullying. At school a few days later, when Kayle finally managed to drag himself back, he spotted some of the people responsible and lost his temper in an explosion of flame, setting the lunchroom alight.
Seven people died from burns and smoke inhalation - most of them the people that had set Kayle's temper off, as that was where the fire had begun. He received the invitation to Brookrose less than a week later.
He is entirely unrepentant for what he did. XXXXXAnything else: Kayle cannot abide water. Seems obvious, but it's true. He refuses to do any swimming whatsoever, and rather than taking showers, he'll often slip out into the grounds, find a place to hide, and set himself alight in order to clean himself. It seems to work pretty well. XXXXXUsername: SilentShadowDreamer~ XXXXXName:FoxgloveXXXXXAge:19XXXXXGender:FemaleXXXXXGrade:She is permanently in senior year (at least until she becomes a teacher). She was just too interesting an creature and too great a success to be let go.XXXXXAbility:Her special skill is called Nullification: the ability to temporarily strip other special students of their powers within a certain radius. She's powerful, so it can potentially last a while, but if her concentration is broken the haze will lift and powers will return.XXXXXAppearance:Isn't she just adorable? Her skin is not white, but is indeed very, very pale. She bruises incredibly easily, and her powers and role in the school has the potential to inspire hatred in the student populace, thus why she was assigned a guard. Her eyes are bright blood red.XXXXXBio:Her powers manifested when she was very young. A student in her old elementary school (since then taken into the academy and since then euthanized) exhibited angry displays of superhuman strength and incredible violence after being bullied one too many times by his classmates. After murdering half of the classroom (including the teacher), he turned on Foxglove and reached for her.
But then, all of the sudden, a eerie red haze filled the room, and he paused in his assault. She doesn't have an incredibly good memory of that day, but eyewitnesses (since then silenced) would say that she had been glowing a faint crimson, and her previously pale gray eyes had become a slight shade of red. With that, the boy fainted.
The day after, both of them were shipped off to Brookrose. The boy was eventually put down because he was deemed too dangerous to be controlled, but the scientists and teachers found something entirely different in Foxglove (her name long ago erased by the people of the institution to make sure she would be theirs forevermore).
They found a way to control the student populace. XXXXXAnything else:Foxglove is revered by the creators of the Institution as the luckiest thing they've ever come across. They've poked and prodded, tested and trained her abilities, and Foxglove has adapted to it all with uncanny grace and acceptance. Everything the administrators give her or any situation she is placed in, she accepts with flawless ease. She is the tool they use to control unruly or dangerous students, and she knows what they do to the children and just doesn't care. She has found a way to keep on remembering. And if that means being a slave to the gods of her cage, than she will be so forevermore.
Over the years, the more she's used her powers, the redder her eyes have become. A red haze always drifts over the area her power has taken hold over, and her eyes always become the color of a sea of bright, fresh blood whenever it's activated. When it's not, they are a dark shade of the color instead.XXXXXUsername:LovetoCauseMayhem ~ XXXXXName:ShimmerXXXXXAge:17XXXXXGender:FemaleXXXXXGrade:Junior. But even after she graduates, she'll remain as Foxglove's eternal companion.XXXXXAbility:Shimmer has almost superhuman intelligence, but the laziness to match. She has ultimate control over all muscles of her body, and can memorize and execute muscle-based functions (like fighting styles and weaponry skills) with incredible ease after only a few short days of practice. Because of her power over her muscles, she can also control exactly how much strength she delivers with each movement, making her potentially the most energy-efficient machine on the face of the planet.XXXXXAppearance:Watch yourself. She's dangerous. Shimmer has sharp green eyes, and her hair has been permanently bleached a startling, sparkling white. She is incredibly tall, and both her stature and build completely dwarfs her counterpart for power. The sword she wields is almost half her height, and can split into two smaller swords. However, it isn't actually a real weapon. It's a wooden prop she made in the completely low-budget theater class. XXXXXBio:Her powers came out in the open much later than Foxglove, when Shimmer was in middle school. It was her first night taking a tai kwon do class, and she completed movements without even being instructed on how to do them. Within the week, she was pummeling kids twice her size with experiences far greater than her own into the ground. And she never seemed to tire. It was instinctive. It was natural.
Within the month, she arrived at Brookrose. And after many grueling weeks of testing it was deemed that she would be Foxglove's guardian. Previous to this, Foxglove had to be kept in a safe room, guarded by men and guns and security devices alike, and would only emerge to quell uprisings. Nobody really knew of her because she was never allowed to travel among the populace, and all of her studies were done in her room. Having a guard would allow Foxglove to be there immediately wherever she was needed, and would let her roam freely.
When Shimmer first met Foxglove, she was twelve, and Foxglove was fourteen. At first sight, Shimmer leaped forward and attempted to attack Foxglove, but she simply raised a hand in response, and touched the girl lightly on the forehead. Shimmer fell to the ground like a rock at her feet, robbed of so much power that she couldn't even move.XXXXXAnything else:Those present at that day of reckoning were sure that the attempt to get Foxglove a permanent guardian had failed, but instead of Shimmer flying into a rage upon awakening to see her suppressor, she reached out and touched Foxglove's arm gently. Foxglove's power had touched something deep within Shimmer, and the girl (hence renamed) quietly succumbed to Foxglove's will, following her around and protecting her from everything- as what the superiors wanted. Why she did or why she continues to do so still baffles them.
Because of this strange, deep connection with Shimmer, Foxglove's power doesn't have quite the same effect on her as it does everyone else. Shimmer becomes a little slower, a little less awesome, but keeps all of her badassery, seeing as how everyone else is turned completely defenseless. Theoretically, Foxglove is capable of robbing Shimmer of all power. The idea if she wants to or not is a different story.XXXXXUsername:LovetoCauseMayhem~ XXXXXName: Alice C. XXXXXAge: 15 XXXXXGender: Female XXXXXGrade: 10 XXXXXAbility: Electrical denial. Any object that runs on electricity, whether it's a cell phone, television, or even a toaster, simply refuses to work for as long as she's in physical contact with it. However, it must touch her skin; Contact through clothing will render it functioning normally. Touching a source of electricity, such as a live wire, will still hurt her as normal. XXXXXAppearance: Limp, raven hair frames this poor girl's head. From her downward stare to her hunched posture, this teenage girl gives off the vibe of someone who would really prefer to simply be left alone. The teenager's face is gaunt; the school's daily meals only just beginning to rectify the malnutrition her situation had forced on her. Even her clothing seems withdrawn, a gray cotton jacket and faded black shirt hiding her thin torso, and an old, ragged pair of jeans finishing the job alongside a pair of tennis shoes. Oddly enough, she also wears a pair of leather gloves that look surprisingly well-kept, especially given that she refuses to take them off most of the time. XXXXXBio: Alice has been bounced around more adoptive homes then she cares to remember, with only vague memories of her actual parents warming her chillier receptions, and letting her temporarily escape the abusive ones. The end result is a quiet girl who, despite her quiet nature and rather shy personality, has a strong survival instinct that trusts absolutely no one. She doesn't trust the school, but the promise of more than a couple meals every few days and an actual education was enough to sway her.XXXXXAnything else: Alice willingly wears her gloves most of the time, but if something irritates her or angers her enough, she's willing to use her...ability, in order to take care of it. Many a foster sibling whose radio was too loud while she was studying learned this the hard way. XXXXXUsername: TheRaggedQueen ~

I like it. The decorating is very simple, but it's really ghostly.
Can I reserve nullification (the ability to temporarily dispel/lock down/make gone) other powers and the ability to make things go boom?
A question as well. Can teachers have powers that they're hiding/not hiding/can't hide?

Thank you. :3 I liked it, too.
You certainly can reserve both those things - I'll hold them for a week for you.
Re teachers: For any questions about teachers and so on (if you want to play one), just send me a PM and I'll fill you in on the important stuff.

Hi bb. I'm going to take that character out. XP
Other than that, this'll be starting...well...approximately whenever I snap out of my health-induced funk and remember that I actually give a s**t about RPing.
