It could have been called a partnership of convenience but that would have been a lie. For that statement to be true though both partners would have mutual trust in each other. In this situation that trust was lacking on both parties. A desperate plight for one party had led to a deal being struck.
Miracle's mind raced in circular thought. Why had she even agreed to this?
A deal had been struck out of survival and now Miracle was bound to her word. Currently she was swimming much in the same pattern her thoughts were going; that of in circles. Her home at the moment was a rather large container. She missed the ocean waters terribly. She thought back on how Lavinia had left her in the shallow pool of water to find a method of transportation. Time and again Miracle had tried desperately to fling herself out of the water she found herself in or flag down another Soquili for help. Both ideas had failed. In the end she was left badly scraped from her multiple attempts. Now she watched over the rim of the container as Lavinia stumbled into the clearing. The mare grasped moss tightly in her mouth and had a rather sturdy looking piece of rope dangling around her neck. Miracle ducked down into the water as vibrations shook her new home. It seemed that Lavinia had devised a different method of carting around the container. She peered up through the water to watch the mare. Something appeared different.

Lavinia grunted. Once again she had stumbled over a rock she could barely see. Her mission was to get that seathi to cooperate with her. She had found something that could nourish the little fish for the next little while and she had also come across something else that she had found useful: rope. Being forever dragging around a rather large container by her teeth would have taken too long and would be painful. A rope solved her problems. She could essentially wrap it around the container and then hoist it that way. It would also leave Miracle able to communicate effectively.
The moss she carried tasted vile. How could something survive on this alone? Shaking her head Lavinia recognized the clearing she'd left earlier. There was the container. A splashing sound meant that Miracle still was were she was before. Lavinia inched closer and without due cause for delay, dropped the moss into the water. She shook the rope off her neck before speaking clearly. "You and I are going somewhere. Speed is of the essence if we are to get there on time. This meeting is rather important so I will need your help. Do not lead me astray Miracle. It could be advantageous to arrive before our guest does."
Lavinia had been busy even before meeting the seathi. She had heard rumors that there was a group recruiting others for missions. The kelpi had been intrigued and sent word to this group that she was interested in joining. Miracle had come into the picture just afterwards.

The moss was dumped into the water. Miracle swam to the surface and grabbed a small piece and nibbled on it. It wasn't seaweed but the plant seemed edible enough. As she ate she felt the water ripple with her motion. The container was comfortable enough as sizes go but it wasn't the vastness of open waters. She gave a tiny sigh and flicked water out towards Lavinia. Who cared if she splashed a little water here and there? She wasn't exactly happy with her situation so why should she show it?
That was when Lavinia began speaking though. Miracle's posture changed into that of intent. They were going somewhere? Why? All the answers fell into place as she listened. Was this was she was recruited? Miracle let herself sink to the bottom of the container. A foreboding feeling had washed over her and she wasn't sure she was going to like meeting this guest. The silence lasted for a few minutes before Miracle felt the container shift. She moved to the surface to see that her vantage point had changed. She was higher up off the ground and being jostled with each step that Lavinia took. "We're going now? Don't I even get a say in the matter? Hey watch out for that tree on your left."
She felt the mare swerve to the right at her direction change. Without realizing it Miracle had already begun her job as guide.

Lavinia had almost gone into the tree. The small voice from the container she now managed to carry around her neck had reached her ears moments before. Lavinia hid a gleeful smirk. It seemed that Miracle had taken to her role wonderfully. Did she even realize what she had done. Keeping her ears open she began to hear other directions being issued from down below.
This had been a wonderful idea. Fate had dropped Miracle into her lap it seemed and she was grateful. How much stumbling around would she have done in order to get to this arranged meeting? Shaking her head Lavinia swung a little to the left at the seathi's direction. This would work. Of course she had no idea how the Soquili she was meeting would react to two presences instead of one but she would deal with the situation accordingly.

They had made progress. Miracle couldn't deny that. She was worried though about this meeting. For what purpose did Lavinia want to attend? The little seathi couldn't figure it out and it wasn't like the Kelpi mare was forthcoming with information. It wasn't for trying either; Miracle had been bombarding Lavinia with countless questions about their destination. Each time she went into one of these questioning sessions the Kelpi would either blatantly ignore her or merely jostle the container hard. It was enough of a warning that Miracle soon caught onto. Lavinia was essentially telling her that if she didn't stop with the questions that she'd dump the container and leave the seathi in strange territory ... on land and all alone.
Still; Miracle's curiosity continued to burn unabated. Where exactly where they going? She'd been given landmarks to identify from Lavinia and was told to let the mare know when they approached one. Then Lavinia would seemingly decide to rest briefly before adjusting her course and telling Miracle the next landmark. It was maddening.

Lavinia grumbled internally. The journey was taking far too long for her liking. Would she even make it to the location in time? Lavinia snarled; the sensation of the rope chafing around her neck was beginning to irritate her. At least she had finally stopped Miracle from asking countless questions. It had taken a few sessions of intimidation on her part but she had effectively silenced the little seathi. It seemed that she was more attuned to her role as a guide now. It was a nice little change.
Lavinia's ears perked up at the sounds being issued from Miracle. Apparently they had just passed one of the final landmarks. Lavinia gave a relieved sigh before stopping. She lowered the container to the ground before her eyes responded to her command. She opened them a bare sliver before fixing Miracle with a stern look.
"I must say that you have done a fine job in guiding me here. I pressed you into service without much choice in the matter; you know this for fact. Beyond this point though; the choice to continue this journey is optional. I will have my meeting and return afterwards if you wish to remain out of it. Or I can bring you along and you can observe quietly. This individual I'm meeting might not care for your presence. The choice, Miracle, is up to you to decide. But be quick about it as I believe that I am almost out of time."
Lavinia stood and moved away from the container. She would allow Miracle the chance to mull over the options presented to her.

Miracle felt Lavinia stop. She couldn’t fathom what exactly was happening as there still seemed to be at least one more landmark that they had to clear. What happened next shocked the seathi. She felt the container bounce onto the ground and she peered cautiously at the hovering face that appeared from above. Miracle swam to the surface in time to hear Lavinia offer rare praise. It was a treat to hear but then the little seathi’s expression changed.
What was Lavinia saying? She had a choice to make now? Miracle began to splash the water in her temporary home in frustration. Why didn’t Lavinia just force her to come along? What good was giving her the choice to attend this meeting? Her mind couldn’t wrap around the meaning behind this. Miracle watched as Lavinia walked a little distance away. Was this to give her some semblance of privacy? Slowly she sank to the bottom of the container. What could she do? She had effectively been warned that there was danger to be held in attending this meeting alongside Lavinia but there was also danger in being left alone. Who knew how long this meeting would take? A predator could come along and decide that she was too tempting a meal to pass up. Miracle fretted over her decision. Could she go through with it? Rising to the surface she called out to Lavinia. Once the mare’s face appeared in her vision she gave a quiet reply. “I will come with you.”

Inwardly Lavinia couldn't decide if she was pleased or not that Miracle had chosen to accompany her. On one hand there would be no secrets between her party and the individual that she was meeting. Mutual trust was important to establish right out of the gate. On the not-so-good side Miracle's decision could easily put her in danger. Lavinia wouldn't have cared but so far the little seathi was invaluable. It would mean going out and finding someone else to perform the same task that she was doing now. Lavinia couldn't have that.
"Very well Miracle. It'd be best if you merely observe this meeting though. I don't know how well this meeting will turn out. Try not to draw any attention to yourself and I think we shall be fine. However if you spot anything out of the ordinary do not be afraid to speak up. I do not believe this meeting will be too long."
