It was hot. So insufferably hot! Azuza picked her way through the forest, keeping to the shady patches as much as she could while seeking out her favorite spot to cool off when the weather became too muggy for her enjoyment. Lots of shade with a lovely patch of cool moss growing in profusion near a burbling brook. If she felt like it, she could wade into the brook itself; there was a nice deep area near a rock that hung over the brook that she had made.
Rubbing against a tree to ease an itch, some of her fur clung to the bark while a feather from her leg floated to the ground, joining its brethren on the forest floor. "A pox upon this heat!" Azuza snapped, stepping carefully into the brook. Even though she had managed to clear away the stones close to shore, every now and then one decided to move in with the aid of the brook. One wrong step, and her hoof could slip off a rock. If she was lucky, no injury would happen other than to her dignity.

Bane followed the sound of a bubbling brook, the heat parching his lips as he took a momentary break from his feather hunting to seek out refreshment. As he drew nearer to the sound of the water, he paused to have a small chat with a sparrow to ask how it was fairing and if any unneeded feathers were about that he could collect. His interest peeked when the sparrow mentioned feathers tinted in silver and dark purple belonging to another like him that seemed to resemble the night heavens. "Could it be?" he asked himself curiously before nodding thanks to the little sparrow and continued on.
When he neared the brook, he spotted another feather on the ground, matching the description the sparrow had told him, and not far from it was its previous owner. "Aaah. Fair lady Azuza... was it?" he said with a regal dip of his head, something he gave only to those he found worthy. And since her legs were adorned in feathers... he found her quite worthy.

Ah, hellfires. Azuza thought darkly, looking up to see Bane. "Bane." She dipped her head in greeting, her tone slightly clipped. She did wish to be alone, but of all the Herla she could be stuck with... Bane wasn't as bothersome as the others she'd seen. He even had manners, though his behavior did somewhat baffle her at times.
"I assume you're here for feathers and refreshment. I have no need of the feathers that fall off from me, and I don't own the brook." Kneeling so the water washed over her back, she stood up and waded out, shaking herself off slightly before heading over to one of the numerous moss patches. She stood in the shade, keeping an eye on Bane.

Ban returned himself up right from his bow and gave a short nod of his head. "You are correct... of the latter M'Lady. I came seeking refreshment from the heat, though to find you is perhaps an added bonus.." he said as his eyes wandered over to the feathers she was shedding. They didn't seem too damaged and he had a new spot in his territory that would cause her feathers to glitter perfectly in the morning sun. "I must thank you for your generosity. They are a sight to behold and cause for much pause when others are passing by my home." he said as he gently picked up the feather by its stem with his teeth and craned his neck to do his best to carefully stick it in his hair before wandering over for a cool drink.

Azuza pawed the ground, slightly irritated at the flattery. "While your compliments may be appreciated, giving too much praise tends to annoy the recipient." She replied. "However, you are more than welcome to the water and feathers. Like I've said before, I don't own the former and the latter I've got no use for once they've fallen off."
Flicking an ear when she heard her Guardian's voice, she growled inaudibly before sighing. "I tend to be curt, Bane. It gets worse as the heat increases." She said, indirectly apologizing for her actions. How do those feathers manage to stay in his fur? Azuza thought, slightly puzzled. From what she knew, once a feather falls out it can't be stuck to anything without some kind of aid.

Bane nodded his head again before lapping up more of the cool water. He turned his gaze to her momentarily. "I can see clearly how you are. It matters not to me how curt you get." he said with a shrug as he watched a few birds twitter past. "I do not claim to be the nicest of harts, and quite frankly, I've upset a few in my time. But alas, its not my fault they can not handle the truth." he said bending down to take another sip of water before finding himself fully refreshed. "None the less, it would be overly rude for me not to thank you a second time." he said casually and strolled up into the shade a few feet away from her for a few moments to cool off further.

Ears flicking back for a second in annoyance, not really happy with the close proximity Bane took, Azuza nodded. "Understandable. If they can't stand the truth, they should get out of the glen." Craning her neck down and to the side, she began to nibble at her foreleg. Raising her hoof up so she could get at the leg better, she managed to knock a few bothersome feathers off. Shaking her leg out, she put it down and switched over to the other. "Damned itchy feathers." She muttered. "Looks like you'll be obtaining more feathers. Good luck sticking them in your fur." She said while nibbling away at the other leg.

Bane watched her curiously as she knocked a few more feathers lose, a small frown tugging at his muzzle. He wished to tell her how to take better care of them, then perhaps they wouldn't itch or fall out so easily, but for once he decided to keep his mouth shut encase she were to never give him any more of her feathers. "No need to wish me luck. I will have my friends take these back for me." he said before craning his neck up as far as he could into a certain tree, chittering a few things to a few sparrows as they glided down, scooped up the feathers and twittered off happily with them in their beaks.

Walking over to the brook after she was done with the other leg, Azuza waded in once more to cool down and soothe the remaining itching sensation. Every summer her legs itched. She figured the molting went with the shedding. "If you need to say something, say it." She said, a faintly amused smirk on her face. The faint frown on Bane's face hadn't gone unnoticed. "And perhaps you could do me a small favor. There is this bird that calls very loudly where I try to sleep, and it keeps me up at night. You seem to have a way with words, and birds."

"I was merely going to suggest preening your feathers. It might keep them less itchy come molting time. In fact, it shouldn't itch at all, but herla feathers seem to be quite different from bird feathers at times." he said with a sigh as he turned his head to incerept a cool breeze. "I am good with birds. But I dare not order them around. If your wanting me to ask it to stop singing its beautiful song, I'm afraid I wont." he said, blunt and to the point. Perhaps if she asked right, he could consider putting in a request to have the bird sing him to sleep at night. He was sure adding another bird to his night time chorus wouldn't be such a bad idea.

"Well, I never learned how to preen, so..." Azuza said, with a shrug. "And I wouldn't ask for them to stop altogether, just to relocate somewhere so their loud calls won't disturb my sleep. Their singing is nice, just... not something I can fall asleep to." Shifting slightly in the water to face the breeze, Azuza's eyes almost closed with delight as the heat seeped away. About time. She thought, relieved to no longer be burning up. Finally, she was able to relax for the first time in days since the heat wave struck.

Bane mulled over thoughts in his head for a while before he came to a decision. "Perhaps then, I will ask them to come sing me into slumber. I can and most certainly love a bird song before bed and it would leave you alone." he said, nonchalant as if it were no big deal at all. And now that the heat wave was subsiding, there was not much use being at the stream anymore. At least to him. "Show me where you sleep." he said, it sounding more like an order but that was just how he spoke.

Azuza dipped her head in thanks. "It's mostly nocturnal, though, but I'm sure it won't bother you." Wading out of the stream, she shook herself out before taking the lead. She had several small thickets she spent the night in, so she didn't mind showing one of them. Though it was rather bold of Bane to tell her to show him. How else is he to find the damn bird? This way's faster anyway. She thought, knowing she could just move to another thicket. Since the heat wave was fading away (which only meant rain was approaching), the coolest thicket wasn't necessary anymore. "Follow." She said crisply.

Bane nodded his head as he followed after her, noting carefully where she was leading him. Not that he wanted to stalk her of course, but encase she happened to nest where certain species of birds did. He was always on the hunt to learn of new birds in the area, learn of their nests and migratory patterns. He sacrificed lots of his own personal time to gain the ever so precious feathers he desired. "Any other birds you'd wish me to address? I've not been far up this way in a while, I should like to re-familiarize myself with the nesting families." he asked curiously, though his eyes happened to be resting upon her figure. It was quite nice of a figure.

"Not that I know of. I've seen a few iridescent ones flitting about, but they aren't a bother." Azuza said, her ear twitching at a sound in the distance. Dismissing it as a normal forest sound, she plodded on. The trail forked a few times; each time she picked the one that went to lower ground. "Not far now. The trail widens up a few paces ahead; somewhere around there is where I sleep, and I'm not sure the exact location of the nocturnal bird." Stepping to the side, she indicated for Bane to take the lead. Probably not a good idea for me to lead, since it gives him a rather nice view of my posterior. She thought grumpily, having a rather negative opinion of males.
