Reminder: these matches are one pokemon per person, but like a Gym battle you'll roll to see who goes first before sending out pokemon. It doesn't matter what order you post those introductory/order-rolling posts. The battlefields are a plain concrete floor, no bonuses or penalties to anyone. I would like it if people finished their fights in three weeks or less, purely in the interest of keeping this tournament moving, but it's not required.

Ariss stepped out onto the battlefield, a little nervous. She hadn't really battled much, figured but she and Kishin could really use more practice at it, especially for the battle portion of contests. And the tournament had seemed a convenient way to get some practice. She waited for her opponent to enter, wondering what kind of pokemon they'd be up against.

In rushed Nyla, still in her police uniform and looking out of breath. "Sorry I was late!" She said in between breaths. "It took a lot longer than I thought it would."

 1000 HP "That's fine," Arissa said with a smile. "I'm in no rush. But now that you're here, we can get started!" She pulled out her pokeball and tossed it out across the field, giving a practiced flick of the wrist that sent it spinning high into the air. "Let's show them what we can do, Kishin!" she called. The pokeball burst open to reveal a large, winged figure. The Archeops flared her wings out as she appeared, then glided to the ground in a loose, graceful spiral. She landed gently and folded her wings as she turned to face her opponent. Arissa smiled. It was a good entrance. It ought to be; they'd practiced it often enough.

Nyla just watched as the Archeops flew down to the battlefield in a graceful spiral. It was pretty, but showy and not useful in a fight unless she used that flying grace to her advantage. And if she was going to do that, Nyla had better send out a flying Pokemon of her own. "You're up, Era!" She said as she threw the Altaria's Pokeball. Era didn't bother with landing, as she preferred to stay hovering in the air.  1000 HP

So they'd be fighting an Altaria. Pity Kishin didn't have any Ice moves, but she had others that would work well. And if the Altaria wanted to stay airborne, then perhaps they should do likewise. An aerial battle might look rather impressive. "Kishin, take to the skies and slow it down with a Dragonbreath!"
Kishin swept her wings upward, then leaped up with a powerful downbeat that shot her swiftly into the air. Another wingbeat or two brought her above the level of her opponent, where she slowed. She hovered just long enough to take in a deep breath before swooping down at her opponent, shooting out a stream of glittering green fire.

The Archeops looked a lot more threatening when it was in the air and right next to Era. Luckily the Altaria didn't panic and instead flew to the side to avoid the Dragonbreath attack.
"Keep it up Era!" Nyla shouted out in encouragement. "And hit her with an Ice beam!"
Era continued flying around the stadium, and when she managed to make her way around the larger Pokemon she fired off an icy beam at her back.

Kishin cried out as the icy blast smacked into her. Her wings stopped beating briefly and she started falling from the sky. She decided to make it look more impressive by turning the fall into a sort of spirally barrel roll, pulling up shortly before the ground and using her momentum to shoot back up.
"Try another Dragonbreath!" Arissa called. Stat effects could make things so much easier.
Her pokemon drew alongside Era before shooting off a blast of green fire.

Era easily floated off to the side again to avoid the next Dragonbreath attack. All of Kishin's flashy moves made it easy for her to anticipate and dodge, and it left the Archeops more open to her own attacks. The Altaria made her way around to her opponent's back and fired off another Ice beam, this time aiming for the wings.

Kishin cried out as the ice hit her wings, impeding their movement long enough to get her falling again. This time she pulled herself back far enough to turn it into a half loop-de-loop, stalling at the top of the curve as her momentum ran out. By then her wings were mobile again and she was able to flip neatly right-side up. She started circling her opponent as she waited for her next command.
Arissa winced at seeing Kishin take another hit that looked rather painful. Clearly her original choice of attack wasn't working. Time to switch it up. "Kishin, Ancientpower!"
Her pokemon abruptly turned and flew away from her opponent for a moment, then stopped and turned around when she'd put a bit of distance between them. There Kishin hovered as she began to glow. At the same time, the ground below her began to glow as well and rocks started to rise up towards her. Then she flew towards the Altaria at top speed, though she was aiming to fly above the other pokemon. Rocks rose straight up from where she'd passed, resulting in a fountain of rocks rising up from below her flight path. Hopefully as she passed over the Altaria, the rocks rising up from below would connect with her.

There weren't many places to go when rocks were erupting from the ground. Era did her best to dodge the Ancientpower but one of the glowing rocks struck her wing, rendering it numb. She flapped the disabled wing rapidly, and slowly feeling did return to it and she could fly normally again. But with the feeling came a whole lot of pain. Era was still strong enough to continue the battle though.
"That's right, shake it off." Nyla said to herself, then spoke louder so that Era could hear her. "Keep on using Ice Beam! She's almost down!"
She being the Archeops of course. Era didn't bother trying to match Kishin's altitude and instead fired off her Ice beam while in the bigger bird's shadow.

The blast of ice hit Kishin's belly from below and tossed the Archeops up a short distance. It thankfully didn't impede her wings, so she was able to keep aloft with no trouble. Still, it was evident that she was growing tired, as her wings were beating more slowly.
The Altaria's attacks have been hitting hard. It seemed purident to try and stop her somehow. Paralyzing hadn't worked, so Arissa called, "Kishin, strut your stuff with Swagger!"
Her pokemon turned and dove down towards her opponent, and when she reached the Altaria's eye level she stopped short with a flourish of her wings. Then she puffed out her chest, held her head high and started slowly circling the Altaria with a jauntily swaying flight that managed to make her seem to be strutting.

Era couldn't turn her gaze away from Kishin, simply because her next move was so obnoxious. She was puzzled briefly, wondering to herself what in the world the Archeops was doing, but she just concluded that she was just being silly. Shaking off her confusion, Era decided that Kishin needed to cool off and fired another Ice Beam at her face.

The point-blank attack tossed Kishin head over heels before sending the Archeops tumbling to the ground.
Arissa noticed that her pokemon wasn't making the slightest move to try and right herself, so she whipped out her pokeball and recalled Kishin before she could hit the ground. Then she called across the field, "Good battle! I hope you had good luck in the rest of the tournament!" It was always good to lose graciously, after all. And with that, she left the stadium to get her pokemon healed.

"Thanks!" Nyla shouted out from across the field. She recalled Era back into her Pokeball as soon as the fainted Archeops was returned by her trainer. "I hope to battle you again sometime!" She said. After the other trainer turned to leave she did the same as well.
