 As the lone buck treks through the swamp ever farther east, he came upon a small pool of clear fresh water. Stopping to drink from the cool liquid in the thick humidity of his home a scent wafted threw the breeze, the scent of his mate slowly making her way back to him.

Hooves heavy and dragging from her long journey back from the borderlands, Mirage was slowly making her way towards the scent of home. She could smell him clearly now, Haze's scent drifting wonderfully on the breeze. Countless hoofsteps later, Mirage pushed through the moss and leaves, her tired eyes searching, she called for him in her singsong voice. Her white pelt shone in the moonlight, almost highlighting her swollen, foal-filled stomach. "Haze, darling? I've returned."

"I am here over by this pool of clear water" he said resting his head on the ground. He laid there peering into the water watching his dim colorless reflection sway as the breeze blew through. He watch her slowly move behind him into his view, she was tired he could tell by her movements. She walked as if the world lay on her shoulders. He knew that they must find a more sheltered place on where they could be hidden from the world, a secret place of their own. "Please rest for now but then we must move, we must find a place for us, a place that we may call our home."

Mirage nodded and rested her head on his shoulder with a sigh, but only for a moment. Haze was right, they needed to get moving. Opening her eyes, she lowered her head to the water and drank deeply. Upon rising, she spoke. "I am fine, dear. Let's get started. As we walk, I can tell you of my journey, if you would like." She said with a smile.

"I would love that, my ears are open." He said with a smile. He rose to his feet, drank from the waters and began to move east once more. "Come with me, tell me of this story of your travels."

Mirage smiled fondly at her mate, her tired eyes warm. Stepping forward, she followed him, finally ready to settle down and raise their family. "I traveled north to the thickest of marshes, traversed through the mud and the muck. The recent rains have risen the waters higher than normal, flooding almost all of my normal routs." She gave a small sigh, "It was terribly difficult to find places to rest."

"Hmm sounds as if the Motherfather wished to test you. to see if you where worthy of a blessing. Did you succeed?" he spoke knowingly. They continued there walk slowly patiently, they had time and neither were in a hurry. East was not taken owned by none and few lived there. They traveled there because of this. The brush slowly began to get thicker. Now walking ahead of Mirage they continued.

Mirage bowed her head in a nod as they walked, stepping delicately over raised roots and side stepping briers. "I did. After much searching, I found a beautiful mare with fins like a fish. She was terrifying but wonderful. " She shivered slightly, "She said that our children will be strong, both in spirit and in will. That raising them will be trying, but most worth it in the end. And that I shall succeed as a mother. It was almost as if she knew that which scared me."

" She does know, she is one with the swamp, the swamp is all knowing." he said lightly. He was started to move more quickly now for it was getting darker and darker. Soon they would be in trouble, a pack of wolves or an alligator would be a very large pain to deal with. He could not risk getting stuck out in the open. "We must move more quickly now."

The white doe nodded tiredly and tried her best to match her mate's pace. It was exausting, however, and her hooves ached so badly. She did not complain, however, and instead trekked onward. "Yes, of course."

The brush became thicker as if a wall briers and wild roses stopped there movement it was to hard to push through even for him let alone his mate. "What to do?" he whispered to himself. He searched for an opening, walking back poking and prodding at the wall. "Well then the only thing i can do." he closed his eyes and began to push through, thorns racked his body, wounding it. Pain cradled his skin, he continued. After ten feet he was through, a large clearing. A tree and flowers surrounding it. "I am threw." he called to his mate looking back at the tunnel he had made.

Watching as her mate paced the wall, contemplating how to move forward, she herself thought to turn back and look for another way. But Haze wouldn't have that. So she kept silent, eyes widening as Haze forced his way thought the thorns that dug deep into his pelt. "Haze, don't!" But he was already through, calling out to her, telling her to follow. With a sigh, Mirage gingerly made her way through the too-small passage, wincing as thorns took her skin and fur and her blood dripped into her white fur. Pushing through, she forgot the pain momentarily. Before her stood a large tree, twisted and ancient, surrounded by beautiful, full petaled flowers that seemed to glow in the moonlight. The air tasted sweet here. Mirage relaxed and leaned down, sniffing the flowers. "We should rest here, dear." She spoke softly, looking up at him.

"And so we shall." he said laying on the grass. He was tired and he knew that Mirage was as well. He beckoned for her to join him. The breeze blew threw the leaves of the tree sing his name, calling him to sleep. His lids where heavy and quickly scrummed to sleep.

Mirage contemplated rest, but her aching belly called to her. After all she was eating for MotherFather knows how many now. Gently, she plucked up a flower with her teeth and nibbled it slowly. Instantly the sweet taste filled her mouth. The white petals bursting with flavor danced on her tongue and made her stomach fill with warmth. "Haze, you must try these flowers.They have a wonderful flavor and are so beautiful. Odd though, they seem to bloom with the moon." She gathered some and lay a small pile next to her mate before laying next to him and taking a few for herself to munch on.

As Mirages voice filled his ears he opened his eyes. A pile of white flowers lay by him, “What strange flowers these are." he said as he eat one. The flavor was strange almost enticing, as if the wished to be eaten. After he had eaten a fair amount he laid back down. His head was humming with a thousand whispers, he slept.
