It was often that his visions took him places.

His visions were normally the things that made him move. He would travel great distances for many reasons. He would either move because his dreams would drive him to wandering, wandering aimlessly he would do anything to keep the dreams from coming back. He would have one and then it was like a landslide, all of the visions would come one after another. All of the visions would barrel down and end up almost driving him crazy. He hated them most of the time. Not only were they a heavy burden that rested on his shoulders but it was also the thing that made him change his life. He no longer believed that all of the world was good. Only parts of the world. Only the parts that tried as hard as he could.

He would occasionally try to act on his visions. His visions were only of bad things that happened around him and he would then go and try to fix them or make them stop. He didn't like them when they happened. He hated them.

He was on his way now to stop one of his visions. Or 'correct' them in a way. He wanted it to stop. He was having visions, visions of his sister and his father. He knew it was them. He didn't perfectly remember what they looked like but they knew it was them. They were causing pain and hurt and he did NOT like it. So that was what he was on his way to do. He was on his way to fight it. He wanted to get his sister and brother to stop and it lead him to the land of his visions. He knew it was a pride, a pride of large red and white lions. They had black on them too but that wasn't what mattered. They had a death because of his family's pride's choices and he did not like it.

The sun was heavy on his dark pelt just as heavy as the sand that weighted down his steps. He was getting closer to the pride and he was wondering when he was going to run into some one.

Border patrols had been tightened since the Nergui had attacked. So much so that the guards were positioned closer together than ever before, closing the gaps around the territory and ensuring that help could arrive before the line was broken and the pride was put at risk. This, of course, meant extra shifts...longer shifts. Azar'bijan was not one to shirk his duties and so he was now more often on patrol than not, occasionally with another guard but mostly alone. He was tired in mind and in body, left alone to turn his thoughts over and over, his paws treading a path into the sand that marked where he had been - until the wind came kissing at the land and hid those tracks from sight.

He was but one lion, a streak of red against gold, pacing tirelessly and watching with sore but unblinking eyes. Working hard whilst his son played outside where the land was not gold and the Nergui did not run rampant. His son was a coward. No more. No less. And Azar had cursed him as such upon their farewell. He still seethed about that now, refusing to give up that old bone; gnawing and gnawing until his teeth ached and the bitterness weighed heavy in his chest.

Off to his right, another guard appeared - a dark speck atop a sloping dune. At this distance he could not tell who it was but the silhouette looked dark enough that he wondered if it might be his old apprentice, Hraga. He'd never thought that he'd actually like that kid. But he did, even if he had never said so. He had ambition and fire and enthusiasm and he did not go wandering out in rogue lands to play nice with the neighbours. When he turned back, he was startled to see the unfamiliar figure approaching from the outside lands. The lion was seemingly travelling alone and Azar knew, immediately, that it was not a returning Firekin. Firekin knew how to properly walk the sands of the desert and moved with an air of confidence despite the heat and the lack of defining landmarks.

Anger filled him, course and raw, and he threw back his head and announced himself to the stranger, letting the sound blast out from his chest and roll down across the sand. The guards close by would know to be alert by now, waiting to hear if another call sounded. Two roars would signify danger and they would be rushing to aid him. But Azar'bijan did not need aid. Pawing at the sand with his claws unsheathed, he strengthened his stance and waited, preparing to charge if the need called for it.

He was surprised to be greeted by the sound of a roar, it wasn't just any roar it sounded angry and it put Minkah on edge.

Although he wasn't expecting to be greeted with with a bow and a "Welcome!" He had heard the red desert lions were not ones to mess with, he didn't hear that they were unwelcoming and evil on the other hand. If he did he wouldn't be helping. He heard they were warriors but heard nothing of them picking on the weaker man for no reason. He believed they had good in them but he was put off by their reaction to him approaching. He knew, though that they were at work. So he relaxed some as he reminded himself that. He didn't blame them for being a little on edge, but yet he was still a little surprised to say the least. He was hoping that once he explained himself the other lion, whoever was would understand what was going on.

He had recognized the lion too. He was one of the large red lions in his dreams. Minkah was pretty large himself. Born of not only a goddess but a Nergui he was too well built to be a warrior, he had no concern over his safety. If he lion would attack he would defend himself and go the other way. He had no fear as he started to see the lion approach. He knew he had seen him in his visions. Minkah's visions mostly included those of the future and of the present, mostly it was the present however that didn't matter as much to him. He wanted to help and he was hoping this lion was going to be able to help him. It was easily said that he had seen and recognized the lion however his visions said nothing of the lion's name... nor of his temperament.

The lion looked young though, close to the same age or a little older than himself. But he was surprised to see the lion, who didn't seem to happy to see him that was for sure. He wasn't close enough to greet to Minkah decided to sit and wait for the lion to reach him, not wanting to intrude futher into lands and disrespect the lion or give the large red male reason to go after Minkah, he wasn't really in the mood for that.
PostPosted: Sun Jul 01, 2012 12:25 pm

Unfortunately for Minkah, Azar'bijan refused to budge. His stance had widened into something that one could consider defensive. The fur on his shoulders had bristled upwards, his jaws parting as his muzzle furrowed; folding back into a snarl. The points of his teeth peeked out from his upper jaw, his whole body tense. His tail thrashed behind him, coming low to sweep a cloud of gold up into the air. The wind blew it across his back to cross the gap between them until it settled back onto the desert floor.

His eyes flashed across the lion's pelt, momentarily unsure. His fur was dark, but was it dark enough? Was it grey or was it black? If he was here seeking membership, Azar'bijan wasn't sure whether this lion would qualify. And if he didn't...

His snarl ripped through the air again, his front paws sliding down the dune a little before he dug his claws in to hold his position. "Speak!" His voice cracked like a whip. "Or so help you, I won't hesitate to do what must be done." And by that, he meant to kill him. He wasn't going to take any chances. Not now. Not with the Nergui out there. If the pride suffered because he had let his guard down there would be no forgiveness for him. He'd sooner die than suffer the shame. His hind legs braced against the sand, readying for a lunge.

No. If one innocent lion had to die to be sure that the pride was safe, then he would do it without hesitation.

"What brings you to the borders of the Motoujamii-Simo?" And he watched the male for any sign of a lie.

Minkah was very surprised by the lion's greeting. Here he was standing normally, slightly defensive but then again a lion was charging him and making what almost seemed accusations even though Minkah had done nothing but wander up to the border. He had seen prides known for killing greet some one more friendly. Then again when he was very little he was part of those prides. He didn't remember much of when he was at that age but what mattered was that he was a little annoyed by this greeting, he had done nothing.

"Stranger," he greeted, his voice was very deep, a little quiet but deep. It was also rough, he wasn't one for many words when he encountered others, and it almost held the very slightly tint of an accent of his heritage. He didn't know, but he did. "I mean no harm." He said simply as he watched the lion. He wasn't even sure if he should tell this hot headed lion much of any reason that he was approaching. He decided that he would start some where else.

"I've been sent here to find the red and black lions of the desert." He started, he was new to these lands and this was a strange idea to him. "Lions of fire." He said simple. He knew not of their names or what they were known of but they reminded him of fire, and this lion himself reminded him of a fire gone wrong. He wasn't sure what to think but he was keeping his cool. His tail flicked behind him. "I wish to speak to an elder, or a leader. I come because I..."He paused thinking about them, his mind drifted going over the visions that he had in his head. "I've seen visions of an attack here. A young lion was injured. There are bad lions attacking you and I want to help." He said it all, most of it anyway he was hoping this lion could at least point him in the right direction. "I've seen blood and I can see it getting worse." He did want to help. Fight against the Nergui, he didn't like his sister and his father causing this kind of pain. He hated it actually. "Can you tell me where the lions of fire are? Or have I found them?"
PostPosted: Sun Jul 01, 2012 1:13 pm

"I will be the judge of that." Azar snapped, eyeing up the stranger warily. The marks were none that he had seen before which meant he had no relatives within the lands. His eyes were pale, too, when compared to the dark, stormy fur. He meant no harm? Azar snorted and allowed himself to shift a little closer to the lion by loosening his claws and sliding another short distance down the dune.

"Sent here from whom?" He questioned. The Motoujamii had enemies. Not friends. And here was this lion with his strange, lilted voice and talk of visions and aid. What did he think he could do? A stranger? An outsider? The Firekin did not have need of a rogue whose head had curdled in the sun. He growled, fierce and loud and coiled his limbs in preparation to leap. He had the advantage of height. He need only throw himself down and pin the lion to the sands. That would be the end of it and no one need know any the wiser.

"You will get nothing from me. You are not a Firekin and you will never be granted permission to become one. Do you understand me? Press on this and I will be forced to take action. We are at war and our patience is thin." He gritted his teeth together, feeling his whole body lock in preparation to attack. It would be good to fight, too. To feel the adrenaline in his veins. To taste blood in his mouth.

"You have three seconds to turn back the way you have come. You'll get no further warning from me."

Minkah couldn't understand why the male was making such a big deal of him being at the borders. Minkah could understand why he was making such a big deal. Mink just wanted to help and this male didn't seem to understand. Sure there was a war going on but this male was being judgmental before Mink could even talk. The dark male tried to stay as calm as he possibly could as he waited to hear all of what the male had to say he wasn't really wanting to argue with some one right now but with the way the male was acting it looked like he just might have to. He wasn't really in the mood for it though but he was going to see how it went.

He could feel frustrating growing in his stomach but he tried to keep as calm as he possibly could. He shook his head at the male. "I sent myself." He said calmly despite the frustration that he could feel growing in him. It was true however. No one had sent him to go here to help. He had sent himself. He had seen the visions and no one else could have heard them. He wanted to do what he came here for but it looked like he wasn't getting along with the male.

His tail twitched behind him. Firekin? He was guessing that was the name of what he was looking for. If only the male was kind enough to show him to some one that he could talk to, some one he could hopefully talk to with a level head. "The only thing I want from you is to talk to some one who is a leader or elder to talk to."

The male then threatened him. But he stood stone faced, he wasn't going to move. He was mad, very mad at the moment he hadn't even done anything. But yet he wasn't going to let this hot headed male get in his way. He was beginning to wonder if the male maybe was younger. "What good will it be attacking me?
PostPosted: Mon Jul 02, 2012 6:54 am

The male talked strangely. He had said that he had been sent to find lions of the red desert and then, when questioned on it, said that he had sent himself. That was not sending then, was it? Could his confused responses be as a result of his fear or as a result of a poor understanding of the language? Could he be a Nergui in disguise with that smooth mane and stone-faced expression? Azar was not going to take any chances. He’d make the kill and then send a message back to the heart of the pride.

“Well, forgive me if I don’t take your words at face value.” He drawled, sarcasm thick. “I will not be taking you into the lands and I certainly will not take you to our leaders. We’ve had assassins before.” His tail flicked again and he laughed, pulling up his head. “What good will it do? Are you a fool? If you lie dead there is no chance for you to work deceit. Better to be safe than sorry.” He was serious, too and he planted himself on the sand and ended: “I think your count of three has officially run down.”

And he lunged then, being careful not to roar lest he bring other guards to him. He wanted to finish this one alone. Even still, a snarl ripped free as he charged down the dune, tearing up the sand with his claws.

User Image

Corporal!” A new voice interrupted. “Stop!

And the red-pelted guard obeyed the order instantly, throwing his weight sideways to put off his charge and avoid the stranger. His paws dug great trenches into the sand; his legs buried almost half way. He was snarling and raging, though, his head whipping up as the second lion appeared over the sands – approaching them from the side.

This second lion was just as large as Azar’bijan but less bulky, perhaps, his muscles not so compact and large. He held a calm nobility about him, too; the slant of his long, square nose reaching up to a pair of desert-coloured eyes. His mane, black as night, set off handsomely against the royal red pelt. There was perhaps a streak or two of grey there in his chin, too; a sign of all the burdens he had to bear.

“Sir.” Azar acknowledged after a moment, though he still sounded angry.

“I’d appreciate it if you didn’t kill this one.”

“He speaks with muddled words, Sir. He could be one of the Nergui. The people will not be happy to take another prisoner, not after the recent business with the one in quarantine.”

Kidondo’s ignored him, eyes flicking over the stranger. He was lighter of pelt than most of their potential joiners. Perhaps he had thought to try his luck?

“I am Kidondo, ruling Regent of the Firekin. Do you have purpose in the Motoujamii…?” He let the sentence trail, hoping the other would fill in a name.

Minkah was beginning to become a little worried, he could see the male getting ready to charge him. He didn't want to move though. Minkah wasn't one to back down. He wasn't too sure if this male had any good in him at this point, yet at the same time he was going to give him the benefit of the doubt. He wasn't going to attack him. He reminded himself of the trouble going on in the pride. He couldn't help it. He didn't want to believe that this male was just going to attack him for no reason. He dug his nails into the ground and held his breath. He was waiting he wasn't sure what was going to happen but he wasn't going to budge.

Or so he though as he saw the male starting to charge his way he couldn't help but to take a step back, his nails dug into the sand and he closed his eyes looking away. He didn't want this to happen but he wasn't going to hit back unless the male actually attacked him. There were times where he would find lions who had full intentions on attacking and then they stopped right before they did. He was hoping for that moment. Well it was close to that but not quite.

He heard the voice too and he paused he wasn't that sure of what to say he opened his eyes and saw the other male. He looked like the perfect description of what he was looking for. He looked up and then took the step forward again glancing at the red lion that was close to attacking him before to the lion that was addressing him now. "Is this the land of the red desert lions? Kidondo?" He asked repeating his name devoting it to his face. He wasn't sure what else to say to him. He paused thinking about what to say next to the male.

"I came because I've had visions of the Red and black desert lions." He still wasn't even sure if he had the right pace. "I'm not sure if I've found it." He said simply before pausing and then speaking once again. "He wasn't sure if he should keep going because of the fact that he didn't want to get attacked once again
PostPosted: Mon Jul 02, 2012 1:07 pm

Kidondo eyed the stranger with a guarded expression. It was impossible to tell whether he was curious or suspicious. He had practised that face many a time and prided himself on keeping his thoughts masked from others. Only on rare occasions had that mas slipped to reveal his true feelings. He was not proud of those moments.

"It is. You stand upon the borders of the Motoujamii-Simo, home of the Firekin."

"He is Regent Kidondo." Azar snapped, pulling himself upright and shaking the sand from his fur. "Foolish rogue. You'd do better to respect us when you stand in our realm."

Kidondo continued to ignore the corporal. He had learned long ago the ways of that lion's fire. He was easily provoked and ignoring or speaking quietly seemed to be the best way to soothe him: much like that of a cub. Besides, he had ears only for the stranger, Minkah. "Visions?" He echoed, his eyes narrowing for a moment. "Come, walk with me."

"Sir--" Azar started to object.

"You can follow behind at a distance if you wish, Corporal." Kidondo added. Azar was many things but he was, at least, loyal and dependable. If Minkah meant him ill will, Kidondo did not doubt that Azar would be at his throat in seconds.

And, when the guard was out of hearing distance, the regent continued: "I apologise for my guard. We are currently on high alert and we're taking no chances now." And then: "Talk of visions in the Firekin can earn you angry, suspicious looks. We are not a pride for placing much reliability in such things. We prefer more understandable means of controlling the future." He, of course, meant that of claw and fang.

Minkah felt relieved as the older looking male confirmed him being in the firekin. He was so happy. He was very happy to find out that he finally had found the lands of the Desert lions. "Firekin." He repeated in almost a whisper, he was distracted for a few moments as his visions twirled in the memory of his head. The large red lions that he had been seeing for a while were called the firekin. He didn't know what to think of the firekin so far. He had met the rude lion and now this lion who seemed the opposite. He wasn't that sure of what he was getting into. But he needed help against the Nergui and the Nergui was what he really wanted to fight that was for sure.

He glanced over at the hot headed male and then back toward Kidondo. He didn't need to communicate with the red male any more, he was talking to the one that he wanted to. He wasn't sure if the Regent was the highest rank, and the one that he wanted to but he was hoping that it was. He flicked his tail around behind him before he nodded and started to follow the male.

"I understand," the male rumbled from his chest. "With a battle on the horizon relaxing and taking it easy isn't exactly the easiest thing to do." He agreed with the male, he had never really been in a battle like he knew the lions were going to be getting into soon. "I really do understand." He repeated before pausing. "Visions are what drew me here before." He paused thinking about his words. The lions were in a battle against the Nergui and he wasn't sure if he should even mention if he was born one. But then again this male seemed understanding. "I mean no harm though sir." He said simply, a little more quietly. "I have seen the wrong that the Nergui has done, and I have seen the death your pride has experienced." He paused and acknowledged the death, "i am sorry about your lost. The Nergui are vicious creatures and what is why I'm here." He started to explain he was hoping the male would understand. Minkah grew in a world where gods were involved in his day to day life at times and visions were something that everyone understood. In most of the time anyway.
PostPosted: Mon Jul 02, 2012 1:51 pm

He continued to walk, though slowly so as to make talking easy. He did not look down at his paws even as the ground chopped and changed beneath him. Instead he looked up; up at the blue sky. Up at the lone buzzard wheeling somewhere off in the distance. Up at the horizon where, even now, forces of the Firekin set about making allies. Kidondo was quiet for a long time, the sound of their steady tread and steady breathing all that came between them.

And then: "You have seen much. Perhaps too much. It is not enough to come here and speak of such things. Not to all of us. Some will demand proof of your strength and your word. Some of us have grown paranoid and suspicious and would sooner kill you than take any chances. I cannot be everywhere at once and doubtless you are not the only passer-by to face the wrath of a Firekin guard." Perhaps some had even been killed before today. Kidondo couldn't say that he'd be distressed by that knowledge. The old wound in his heart at the loss of a nephew gave a pained twinge at the condolences and he had to take a moment to steel himself against it. "There will be many more losses to come, or so I fear, before the end."

But enough of that.

"Visons and visions and cannot always be relied upon." He discarded that quickly. "You speak as if you know of the Nergui, Minkah, and the accent I hear upon your tongue. You hail from the northern lands to which this barbaric horde came?"

Mink listened to the lion not really sure of what to think. As the male explained he had a less and less chance at getting into to help the pride. All he wanted to do was at least try to right some of the wrongs that his family had created. It frustrated him to know that he possibly could not. He knew he couldn't take on any of the Nergui on his own, he knew that for a fact but he could easily help a pride of lions like this. He was but one lion but one extra lion could be helpful. Or at least he was pretty sure of it. He wanted to help badly.

"I've done many things to help with my visions. I understand that I am a stranger and I have no proof of the good that I have done." He said simply but he shook his head. "I've been having visions of you Red lions and when I realized who you were fighting against I wanted to help, I wanted to help badly." He was hoping that the male wasn't going to just turn him away. He could be a great accessory to the firekin. He could see their attack plans he could see many things happening. Although he couldn't predict his visions but they could be helpful, and even if they didn't want to believe those he could easily fight, Minkah had the blood of a fighter, he didn't want to kill but if he had to, and it was to help some one he would.

He paused at the lion's question, he looked up for a moment and stopped walking thinking about what to say to the male. He felt that being honest would be the best thing to do at this point. He started walking again by the male's side. he made up his mind, just out with it. "I do." He started to answer the male's question. "I was born as a promise to give some one a strong cub to raise in the Nergui." He laughed a little at the idea, he wasn't going to mention who his mother was, he never did. "My mother promised my father that she would give him one strong cub, I was not that cub as I found out when I was young enough to be parted from my father, when as a cub I didn't need constant super vision from helpful eyes." He paused before continuing. "My sister, was picked and my other sister and myself were taken from the lands to live with my mother away from the Nergui." He nodded at the idea. "I haven't seen my sister nor my father since then. I recognized them though in my visions. I knew their markings and their colors and I knew what they were up to." He then paused before nodding to the male. "I wish I could offer more information about the pride to you, or even tell you that I can speak their language, I can understand bits but nothing useful. I do know that males are much more respected that females."

He then took a second before looking up at the sky, it was hard to walk in these sands so he had to quickly turn his attention back to where he was walking but as he did he spoke again. "When I was little I used to like to believe that everyone had good in them. But when my visions came I learned that most have good in them but not all. My sister and my father have no good in them, I hate that and with the bad that they've done they don't deserve to live." He said simply and honestly his voice was strong. "I don't like to fight unless some one brings that kind of bad to some one who doesn't deserve it." He wasn't even sure if this lion was going to believe what he was saying. There was on thing for sure and that was some times it was hard to believe when some one said something like this but he was really hoping the male would.

Kidondo listened without word. Absorbing. Calculating. Deciding.

He was a seer himself, though years of neglecting the gift had made it weak, so weak that it was truly of little use. It had never done him much good but neither had it brought him any ill-will. Nevertheless, he would never trust it. Never. The gift could be misunderstood. It could be manipulated and misleading. He would trust only in knowledge and not in the questionable visions received in dreams. This belief is why he had ignored the trait in himself, making the choice to cast it aside to trust in what his own eyes saw. A future could be changed. He believed that fully. What was the point of looking into the future to see something that might be changed a moment later?

He was silent a long time, mulling over the words, his brow furrowed. And then he drew in a breath and asked: "Then what do you hope to achieve here, Minkah? Tell me simply. You offer no knowledge on our enemy and we have warriors aplenty. Your accent will bring suspicious eyes upon you and seers have never been looked highly upon in these lands. I have no proof of your character except your word. Would you ask me to place your word above the safety of my people?"

He shook his head, his eyes stern. "I bear you no ill-will but the Corporal there is one of many who think like him. They would sooner kill anyone suspicious than welcome them into their ranks."

Behind them Azar's head lifted. He could sense the mood of the lions in front of him and there was a tension in his step. He walked a little faster, bridging the gap by a pace.

Minkah was starting to feel a little upset as the male was basically rejecting him and that was making him pretty upset. He flicked his hair out of his eyes and then turned toward him once again. "I understand what you're saying sir." He said simply not sure where else to go with this. "And I understand you have plenty of warriors" He waited though not that sure of what to say next but he was thinking trying to pick his words correctly to say to him. He didn't know how to put it.

"Kidondo, I have visions that haunt me of bad and honestly I just wish or want to see good in the world, yet I can't because of them." He paused and let out a frustrated sigh. "I can't put into words of how angry it makes me, at one point I truely believed that everyone had some kind of good in them but now, I can't believe it. I can't believe that there is good in everyone because I've seen the bad. I've seen so much bad." He said simply before turning toward the male once again. He wasn't frustrated with the male but he was frusteated with the situation. "My father and my sister have done wrong. You know the feeling of the want for revenge." He stated before looking at the male. "I've seen your pride's want for revenge in the lost of the lion. I have the same kind of revenge for a different reason. I hate being related to some one with such bad filled in their heart. I hate it and I want to fight against it, especially when I've seen the bad done to your pride."

He paused and then stopped turning toward the male, he kept his distance and kept a good stance and mild temperament trying to make it clear that he meant no harm. He wanted to make sure the lion was clear that he meant no harm. "I promise sir that I am different from my family and I honestly want no more than to help. I don't care if I sleep in the middle of the pride and I'm not allowed to go anywhere. I don't care. I want to fight and I want to help. I know of the Nergui's power and I've seen it, extra power will not help." He said simply and to the point. "I just want to help." He repeated again truely not sure of what to say he really did just want to help he wanted more than to help. He hated what his siblings had done and he wanted to help.
