Fi'o and Ivanhoth, Rolling for Initiative
Ever since their defeat by the resistance, Fi'o and Ivanhoth had been seething and restless. Too many whers had died or been hurt to the point of having to quit the battle, and too many of their humans had fared the same. It wasn't fair! Why could more of the dragons not see that the whers were not lesser, why did they insist on suppressing and mistreating them? How could they not see why the handlers had finally risen up?
Though Ivanhoth did not like that he needed to fight the other dragons, he knew that it had to be done - the little whers needed a big friend to protect them. He was only sad that he had not been enough protection for them, too outnumbered by other, even larger dragons.
And his Fi'o was angrier than ever! Her moment of victory had been short-lived, and while she was smugly satisfied that her knife throw had finished the job and taken down the traitorous handler, she too was affected by how many they had lost and almost lost. It was unacceptable! In the future, they would have to do better. She had to protect the people she saw as family, regardless of what other riders thought of her.
They stood guard outside the Weyr, to which they had transferred shortly before the murders had stirred up trouble. She had preferred Fort, to be perfectly honest, but she had gone where she needed to go.

J'nes had been away at the Weavercrafthall purchasing supplies when he'd gotten word that the Weyr was under attack. Incredibly, it wasn't Thread or another murderer that had thrown the Weyr into chaos. It was the wherhandlers, rising up for reasons unknown to him. And apparently they had found supporters, among crafters, weyrfolk and riders alike.
J'nes and Hatteth rushed back to the Weyr as quick as they could, emerging outside the Weyr to find another brown dragon and rider standing guard. He directed Hatteth to land nearby so he could call out to the rider. "What are you guarding from?" It was the most neutral way he could quickly think of to ask which side the rider was on.

(Passing my turn)
J'nes waited patiently for an answer from the other eider. He mentally urged Hatteth to stay calm until they knew had a better idea of was going on.

Ivanhoth's eyes whirled orange at the appearance of the other dragon, and he flared out his wings in an attempt to make himself look bigger. There weren't many dragons who fought for the whers, and he did not recognize this one as one of them. He was not eager to fight, however, and hoped that he was wrong and this was an ally.
Fi'o was equally suspicious, but her bearing was more confident than her dragon's. She wanted another chance to fight!
"Anyone who's a threat to us," she answered. "If you're here for the handlers, you'll have to go through us."
We will protect the little ones! Ivanhoth added, shifting his weight into a position of readiness.

J'nes initially wasn't sure what the other brownrider meant. Was that "if you're here to fight for the handlers," or "if you're here to get at the handlers"?
He was spared the need to ask for clarification by the dragon's words, who made it clear which side they were on. He almost wished their choice had been ambiguous for a while longer, though; he really did not want to fight against another rider. He sighed and slid down from Hatteth's back. "I'm sorry to hear that. The weyr should stick together, especially with Thread falling again. The weyr should be strong and united so we're better able to protect Pern." Regretfully, he lunged forward to throw a punch at the other man, trying to knock him out.

At his rider's direction, Hatteth faced off against the other dragon. "Why are you doing this? They're attacking us, we should not be helping our attackers." He would much rather talk than fight, but so he was a bit tentative in his attack. He snapped at the brown, but his strike missed, so he tried to pretend it was something of a warning shot.

It was easy to see that kind of a strike coming, and though she didn't quite have time to get out of the way of it, she did manage to put up her hand and catch his fist; it certainly wasn't pleasant, but it beat a punch to the head.
"The Weyr hasn't been united in a long time, or hadn't you noticed?" Ignorant, just like most riders.

They are not our attackers, they have not hurt me and Mine. They are our friends, and that is why we stand with them! The others did not understand, and I do not think you will, either. While reluctant to hurt his fellow brown, he was committed to the cause he shared with His, to helping the little whers and their people. Anyone who wished to hurt them, he would hurt!
Ivanhoth snapped back at the other dragon, but he missed his strike as well.

She had a point, but to J'nes's mind that was no reason to fight other riders. "All the more reason why we should be working to bring the weyr together instead of driving it farther apart," he answered. Then he aimed a kick at her knee, hoping to knock her down.

There was certainly one thing the other brown was right about; Hatteth did not understand. Don't you have dragon friends, too? he shot back. And doesn't your rider have rider and weyrfolk friends? Why wouldn't you fight for them instead?
He lashed out a claw to slash at the other brown.

The kick was well-placed, and her leg gave out beneath her, forcing her to one knee. Grunting, she aimed a punch at his gut from her new vantage point. "Any togetherness the Weyr would ever have had was an illusion fed by a hierarchy that should have been torn down a long time ago."

Defending
We do, but they are with us. We and the handlers are not the only ones who fight for what should be! A world where a dragon was no greater than a wher simply because it was a dragon, or a gold greater than a green simply because she could lay eggs. The world as it was was not right!
Ivanhoth reared back, foreleg up, trying to deflect the strike.

J'nes was about to answer when her punch knocked the wind out of him. He had to take a moment to regain his breath before responding, "I would think that there would be more beneficial ways to make your grievances known then through bloodshed. Especially now with Thread having returned, when we need our strength to fight for the good of all Pern." Then he swung for another punch.

Oh, am I supposed to believe that every single rider and weyrfolk you've ever liked has turned against the weyr? Hatteth responded tartly. And what of the very young humans, and the very old ones? Do you not care that the ones who can't fight will be caught in this mess, some of them simply because they happened to be born in the wrong place? He lunged forward to try and bite at the other brown.

"Do you really think no one tried that? It doesn't work. They don't want to give up their power." The punch was jarring, and Fi'o staggered and spat blood from her mouth before attempting to retaliate.
