The dirt road beat the summer sun into him in waves. He'd left the caravan earlier that day as it went off to trade and he made his way through the small farming village. Artemis Kalends moved swiftly along the road, careful not to cast too many glances over his shoulder, but nonetheless wary of his follower. It was something that happened from time to time, had and would always occur-- some cheeky young thief hellbent on proving him or herself would corner him, then attempt to best him in a fight in order to increase their own fame in Imisus.
This one, though, was more determined than the others. Kalends had a fair idea of who it was that was trailing him, and knew that she would not be easily deterred. So, given the option of running more and eventually coming into conflict versus evading pursuit, he decided upon the latter.
It was with this mindset that he ambled through the market square of Ereland, seeming for all intents and purposes a traveler having wandered away from his caravan. Kalends' eyes roved over the village, trying to find a good place to hide out. He was sure that his pursuer couldn't be more than a few hours behind, so he'd only need to vanish for a day.
He walked by a few of the fruit and vegetable stalls, pretending to inspect the merchandise while he contemplated the possibilities. This was a village of farmers, so the logical step would be to disguise himself through working on a farm. But in a town of this size, he was sure that everyone knew everybody else. Kalends weighed his options as he sized up one gourd against another at a stall. He'd need to act, and fast, if he was going to pull this off.
"These are well-grown." He nodded to the seller. "I don't suppose you'd be looking for an extra hand to help bring in the summer harvest?" Kalends wasn't surprised when the seller's head shook no. Damn. Somewhere in this town, surely someone needed work done. And that would give him just the opportunity he needed.

((Hey Saint, I just wanted to let you know Sizwe's town is spelled 'Erlend' <: <3))
Ho hum. Sizwe browsed through the market place, rubbing his chin. He had just finished delivering some of his wheat to the nearby miller, and he had a few minutes to rest before he had to go back to work. Maybe he would buy some fruit and vegetables to bring home. He didn't really know if his father knew how to cook vegetables, but it couldn't hurt to have something other than meat, bread and potatoes all the time. These were the times he missed his sister and grandmother dearly, it was rather lonely at their house now, just his silent father and him.
He walked around, his hand in his pocket, hand over the small stone tablet that he kept with him. He didn't know what it really was, but it was the only thing he had to remember his family with. He had to admit it gave off quite a stink though, and people would often mention a stench hanging around Sizwe. But he didn't trust it being left at home, where his father could find it. His father would probably throw it away at a moment's notice.
The farmboy stopped in front of the stalls, smiling politely at the vendor in greeting. He picked up one of the apples, he stared at it; it was perfectly ripe, and probably tasted wonderful, but did he really want fruit? He stared at the vegetables, suddenly very intimidated by the variety. How did one cook carrots anyways? Was it like a potato? Sizwe sighed, placing the apple back, maybe potatoes and meat for a little while longer wasn't such a bad option.
"...don't suppose you'd be looking for an extra hand to help bring in the summer harvest?", Sizwe's head snapped up at that, and saw a boy slightly younger than him. He was looking for some work? "Hey...", Sizwe called out, walking over to the boy, "I'm lookin' fer some extra help..." he tried putting on his friendliest smile (though it probably made him look more awkward), "...would you be interested?"
"Oh an' I'm Sizwe Magoro by the way." he held out his hand.
