bilious Text from Simon:You have 15 minutes to get to the portal room. The OOC Stage 1: Getting there on time! It is the middle of the night, and so there's certain actions that may (or may not) need to be taken by Jerry as he prepares to leave. For each action, you will roll 1d4 (this can be all at once, or you can choose to do 1 action=1post, and go one by one.) 1 = minute. If he exceeds 15 minutes, Simon will be highly displeased.Things that would require a roll include, but are not limited to: - checking phone to receive text - getting dressed - leaving a note - talking to anyone - eating - makeouts - mcloset moment - brushing teeth - singing - exiting dorm building - traveling to portal room He can multitask ICly, but OOCly that still means a roll for each action.

There was a buzz. And again. Jerry shifted where he lay curled up beside Sasha, an arm around her protectively while they slept. What time was it? He fumbled for his glasses groggily, managing to knock his phone onto the floor in the process. Sasha merely snored as he unwound himself from her and nearly fell out of the bed trying to reach the fallen device. A text message by the sound of the beeps...
Ok. Glasses. Check. Dim light of his nightlight and a scramble to find the phone, check. Remembering how to read. Check.

It was from Simon. Jerry adjusted his glasses, reading it over as though unsure what each word meant. It was the middle of the night... as far as he could recall he hadn't done anything to get in trouble as of late- even Rep's mission he had done his best to at least save his emotional breakdown for the privacy of their room... Portal room? A mission? He glanced to Sasha's slack, gaping mouth snoring peacefully in it's puddle of night time drool. Should he write her a note?
Fifteen minutes.... wait, when had the note been sent?

His sluggish, sleepy brain finally registered the time stamp on the text and snapped into coherency. Even leaping from the bed didn't get a rise out of the slumbering girl, and he was glad. After everything that had happened, she needed her sleep.
Thankfully, his jumpsuit made dressing quick, pulling it on over his pajamas before battling with trying to find clean socks in his bag of clothes he had saved.

He debated if he should leave Sasha a note again as he fumbled with his shoes. No... no time. He'd be back by morning, he hoped. Just a mission, right? Hopefully.
He had been better. He had been keeping himself together hadn't he? For the most part. There was no reason to be terrified of Simon. Just because he was being called didn't mean.... and well, it was the portal room, it HAD to be a mission. Was anyone else being summoned? He debated texting Jordan, but another glance at the clock... no time, no time.
He glanced out the window, anxiety gripping him. It was pitch black out, but the general lighting of the facility made it not a problem.
He had been better about his phobia as well. The last thing was his jacket.
It lay, still stained horribly from the gore of that last mission. Attempts to wash it and wash it and wash it again had faded the orange and gold a bit, but not those dim ruddy stains. His stomach clenched as he considered it.
And then glanced at the clock again.

OH GOD OH GOD One last remorseful glance to his cellphone he realized he only had a few minutes left to get from here to the blasted portal room. He debated his cane for several moments. No, no, his Fear shield had kicked in, it was sorting itself out, stronger every day where a mere human would have been looking at a crippling for life, he didn't need it, didn't need any other reasons for Simon to be angry with him.
He hobbled, gained his bearings and gathered his courage, and ran.

He ran, long legs carrying him faster than he had run in what felt like ages, since the away mission. His knee was groaning as he hauled himself across the dark campus, dotted by the safety of the pathway lights, and it was screaming as he rounded the bend into the main building. He took a moment just outside the Portal Room doorway to catch his breath and practice walking without a limp again. He was still panting as he sauntered inside as straight and proud-faced as he could, "I... I'm here... sir!" He accompanied with a salute.
He didn't dare check the clock.
He wished he had stopped for coffee and wobbled a bit.

Looking up from his watch Simon gave the intermediate an impassive look. He didn't miss the wobble, and the corners of his lips began turning downward, "Are you capable of completing a mission?" He didn't explain that this would be Jerry's promotion mission, and that it would be months before the assistant could be convinced to allow him to try again. Instead he simply stared, and silently began the tally.

Jerry stiffened as Simon eyeballed him, blinking a few times as he willed his brain to wake the ******** up.
Was it a trick question? He had assumed it was a mission, or at least some sort of assignment, or maybe even a request to learn more about what had happened with Rep in the jungle.
"Y-yes, sir!" After a few quick words with Roar, he set his expression into something he hoped exuded confidence. "Always ready, sir!"
One of his socks was black. The other wasn't. The important thing was he was wearing clothes.

"Adequate." Other people might get an excellent, or a good. Simon stepped through the portal without any further greeting or instruction. When Jerry followed he'd find the last flush of the sun fading with gentle swiftness across a desert horizon. Below them a vast canyon full of deepening shadows spread far into the distance. Simon walked swiftly to an odd vehicle, a sort of runic dune buggy, and took the driver's seat. He stared at Jerry for a moment, and as the night settled in, the assistant's lips twitched in a small smile as he started the engine, the runes flaring to life, and took off. Bilious Roll 1 d4! If 3 or 4, Jerry was able to make it in to the vehicle before Simon started driving, if 1 or 2, he took too long and has to run after it! Roll D4s to determine how long it takes for Jerry to catch his ride! Anything less than a 4 is a miss! You can roll all at once or separately!

Jerry bit his lip as he shuffled after Simon, his shoulders stiff but kept his posture tall and proud. The light of the portal room soon dimmed- as did the sun glimmering over the sandy mounds. His posture stiffened further, his breath hitching in his throat. He'd be alright.
He closed his eyes for a moment, inhaling slowly. By the time he exhaled and glanced to where his division assistant had moved off to, he nearly slid on the sand trying to catch up. "Ah... Wh-where are we going, if I might ask, Sir?" He managed, trying to keep the wobble out of his voice as he gripped the door frame just as the vehicle kicked to life and took off. "Ah- ah! W-wait! Ah!" He managed to leap and slide along, clinging for dear life before scrambling inside next to the man.
At least the dune-buggy's runes gave a soft halo of light around him.

They turned on a small trail that led directly into the depths of the canyon. "We found a Famine nest a few days ago, abandoned except for their pets. Normally the pets don't last long in our world but these ones..." As they reached the bottom, a glowing spot appeared in the distance and headed toward them at great speed, within moments a massive glowing beetle the size of a van tried to ram the vehicle, Simon steering it away just in time and speeding up. "...these ones have been modified."The beetle sped up to pursue them, quickly joined by a dozens of other massive bugs, each trying to take down the vehicle as it sped through the canyon. - 1 tardiness - 1 physical fitness + 1 situational awareness Jerry's Score: -1bilious Jerry needs to put the shot in riding shotgun! There's 99 giant not-so-minipets in the canyon and they're all gunning for Simon and Jerry! Roll Jerry's normal attack! The attack damage = the amount of insects killed! HOWEVER... Any misses and the insect is given an opening to damage the vehicle, impairing both its speed and control! So for every miss, you need to add 1 point to Jerry's accuracy modifier!

Pets? No sooner had he adjusted his glasses, what he had hoped was a compound or something in the distance was coming towards them... quickly. He yelped, clinging on for dear life as the buggy swerved and jostled, "M-modified HOW, sir??" He to yelp uselessly before scrambling with the whistle at his neck.
Roar filled the cart with green light for a moment before dropping on Jerry's shoulder, his metal chin swiveling to aim out at the attacking bug.... just in time for it to once again hurl itself against their vehicle, nearly sending him flying.

"T-try b keep it steady, sir!" Jerry yelped, sitting back in the seat for a moment before crawling upright unsteadily to crouch with better vantage point. His shots barely touched the growing swarm, but he managed to blast through one crawling up the side of the buggy before swerving around to catch one that had leaped onto the rear.

Jerry was tempted to reach for his hand torch, but no... no last resort, he could do this, he and Roar were a great team and he knew it. Keep his cool. Or Simon would probably shoot him.
Another deep breath. In and out.
With a snarl, he swung around, hair and scarf whipping as he fired again and again, the blasts punctuating the night with their green glow.
