Gregg Hurwitz wrote a minseries for DC recently called Penguin: Pain & Prejudice, and I thought it was really good. I was also thrilled when he was announced to be coming onto Batman: The Dark Knight, the first issue of which comes out tomorrow.

However, I came across this quote by him from USA Today:

"What makes Batman the most compelling pop-culture figure today is the fact that this is a kid who was traumatized and ultimately chose to try to defy and overcome human limitations in an effort to perfect and insulate himself from pain and grief," Hurwitz explains.

Now, I might have been wrong all this time, but doesn't Bruce Wayne do what he does to prevent others from going through the same pain and grief he did? I thought this was one of the main drives for why he took d**k Grayson in and wouldn't stop until he got Tony Zucco. Also, I've always preferred the origin where Batman can't get justice because his parent's killer was never caught, even though so many stories now include Joe Chill for that. If Joe Chill must exist, then I guess Nolan's first movie did it the best, but I prefer him not to be in the origin.

Long story short (too late! lol), do others agree or not with Hurwitz's quote? I'm just curious smile
