BACKGROUND
Adam was born a b*****d when his father, Lord Tristan Blanetree, bedded an innkeeper's daughter. He grew up as a child at the inn, where he frequently played with a wooden sword and dreamed of being a knight. When he became a teenager, his mother told him who his father was. He sought out his father, who being a kind man permitted him to be a squire for Brian Blanetree, Adam's half-brother. Even though his father had granted him a kindness, the rest of his new family despised him for being a b*****d. His half-brother Brian constantly made him perform arduous tasks as his squire and his step-mother tried her best to make him feel unwelcome. However, it soon became evident that Adam possessed a natural talent for swordplay, so when he reached adulthood his father granted him a knighthood, proclaiming him Ser Adam Rivers.
Shortly after Adam was knighted, he packed up and left, since he was mostly unwelcome amongst the Blanetrees. He still swore his sword to the family and pledged to fight for them, or the Tullys, whenever need be. He spent his time wandering the Riverlands, offering his sword as a hedge knight to whoever needed his service. While taking money for his services and only performing good services, he was constantly frowned down upon as a mercenary or sellsword, which made him hate those terms.
When the War of the Five Kings broke out, Adam returned home to serve his family and House Tully against the Lannisters. He fought alongside Lord Edmure Tully during the Battle of Riverrun and was captured by the Lannister force. He was taken south near Pinkmaiden and held in a prisoner camp there.
