Okay I just gotta say, we're you're being cyber-bullied by a minority, you know the human race has hit an all-time low. I've been bullied my whole life and managed not to become a total d**k, but these two gaians in the avatar arenas really got to me with their comments. One was from a guy who I guess has a habit of hating everything (I found out by the streak of negative feedback he left on practically everyone's entries) who was quoted as saying, "Really terrible." Well I did as I thought was best and deleted it from my page and then went on to all the other pages he left comments on and told the users not to listen to him because, well, haters gonna hate.
But then, right when I thought I'd done my civic duty on behalf of my heart and the other gaians just wanting to do something fun without being mocked, here comes this girl posting a whole paragraph (I'm not even exaggerating) deconstructing my avatar and pointing out its vast and numerous flaws and how unappealing it all was. My first reaction was, "Who died and made you queen of the world?" So out of sheer curiosity I search the username in the arenas and damn! This person has like, 4 pages of ranking avatars. Well there goes the whole inferiority theory, right? I can respect that. But then, I'm feeling really crummy as you can well imagine, so I check out her profile, again, just feeling curious as to who this person is and why she was such a jerk. Well it turns out to be a transgender male with a female avatar. That really got me - I love the whole GLBTQ community, why was a minority member - who I thought would know the plights of bullying and struggling to be oneself - act such a way?
Well, I was just distraught. Here I was being ridiculed by a person representing a whole community of people. It was like elementary school and middle school and high school all over again. I know you people out there reading this may be thinking something like, "Hey...aren't you being a tad oversensitive?" Well, please let me refer you to the thousands of bully victims each year suffering from depression, suicidal thoughts and tendencies, low self esteem, and countless other side effects from constant harassment. This stuff is real. And it just goes to show you don't know who you're hurting and who's on the other side of the screen.
In closing, don't be a jerk, because I won't stop being myself. And if you're one of those people who knows what it's like to be picked on, well, you have the greatest responsibility of all. You need to find a way to stand up for yourself without turning on humanity as a whole. It's a long and emotional journey ahead, but it's not impossible. Once again, it all comes down to the golden rule: "Treat people the way you want to be treated." Or else I might just leave a comment on your public profile for all to see. Because I totally did that. XD

Getting criticism from somebody isn't the same thing as cyberbullying. It sounds to me like you just don't take criticism well, and are trying to play the victim.

B1g_crunch Getting criticism from somebody isn't the same thing as cyberbullying. It sounds to me like you just don't take criticism well, and are trying to play the victim. Oh I'm sorry, I thought this was the "b***h about your life subforum". Guy, I know the difference. Part of me is venting, but I did get my feelings hurt. I spent months on that avatar, and excessive criticism happened to hurt a lot of people really close to me, people I care a lot about - you know, unattainable standards and the like. There's a difference between friendly criticism and excessive criticism. All n' all, I'm not interested in slander, just making gaia more friendly. I just needed to get this out, which is why I put it here to begin with. Of course, you accusing me of playing victim has convinced me you're a total jerkmunch. So have a happy life. Or not. Your call. ^^

Personally, I would feel honored that such an expert would bother to take the time to point out ways to improve. Yeah, criticism can be a pain in the a** and it's really difficult to take a lot of it without being hurt, but think about it. Out of the thousands of avatars submitted to the arenas, this person took the time to look at yours, figure out what she didn't like, and tell you why. Maybe she didn't do it gently, but she cared enough to do it. Most people probably would have just rated poorly or been like the other jerk and left mean comments without telling you why they didn't like your avi. I'm fairly certain that the fact she's transgender had nothing to do with the negative feedback.
I'm not saying you're overreacting. It's perfectly acceptable to feel as if those people were bullying you, especially because you put so much work into the avatar and it wasn't received well. That's really hard to take, and your reaction is probably how I would feel if that had happened to me. I'm just trying to put a positive spin on the whole thing.
