APPEARANCE

Physical
Lionel is six feet tall, with a well-built, lean physique. His skin is lightly colored, contrasting with his darker hair. It seems to be black, but light betrays him, revealing its dark coffee color. It is layered — rather, unevenly cut — running down to his shoulders in loose, unkempt waves. He does not bother much with his hair, and botches it up when he decides it is too long of him to stand. He has a very expressive face, which tell both the emotion he feels and the degree at which he feels it. His head is an angular square, with high cheekbones and a sharp jawline. His cheeks are slightly sunken. His mouth is large, though it is not a very evident feature till he smiles, exposing a great deal of teeth. He also has a small nick in his right eyebrow where a scar is. His eyes are deep set, rather large, and cat-shaped. The irises are gray, with barely a hint of green. His lips are thin, chapped, and display signs of tear and injury more often than not. He has a habit of licking them in attempt to keep them moist, and biting off the peeling flakes, but frequently tears off a little more than dead skin. His hands are dry and calloused, with a number of breaks and sprains evident in his fingers. His nails are dirty, and a little more than mangled pieces of cartilage extending from the tips of his fingers. His left forearm bears four long scars from a hunt gone awry back in his younger days.

Clothing
First, he wears a gray, soft wool shirt with a small collar. Over that, he wears a long, sleeveless, nearly-black leather jerkin tied down the front by several loose leather ties. To match the jerkin, he wears leather bracers of the same color as his jerkin. He wears black cotton hosen tucked into soft, black leather boots. His boots reach up to his knees, and are fur lined. There is a white fur trim at the top of the boots. Over all of this, he wears a dark, fur-lined duster coat with a with a white fur trim at the neck and base, and some other white details over it, and then finally a thick, white, fur-lined cloak with a large hood. When he does not have his cloak, he wears a thick, long, black scarf, that is tattered at the ends. He wears a few leather belts over his jerkin, one wrapping around his waist, another crossing over his body and around his back. From his waist hangs his shorter dagger; his throwing knives are held by the cross-body strap in the front; and finally, his two daggers are held by the cross-body strap in the back.

Weapons
He usually carries three daggers and several throwing knives. Of his daggers, two longer ones are a pair which he uses together. The third is a full tang, slightly shorter dagger. All three resemble scimitars. The hilts are wrapped in leather, and cylindrical in shape, almost like the branch of a tree. They lack s cross-guards or pommel. The curve on the shorter dagger is much more prominent than that of the other two.

PERSONALITY

Like most hunters, Lionel is fairly reclusive. However, one would never guess that was a part of his personality. He comes off as a pretty laid-back guy. He can maintain conversations, and sometimes, he enjoys the social interaction.

He is witty and sly. He has a general cunningness about him, and he does not make an effort to hide it. He smirks rather than smiles, and he can lie without batting an eyelash, though more often than not, he speaks the truth. He is blunt to the point of indecency, and does not care very much for the reactions of others. He speaks truth; whether or not they accept it is not his problem.

He is sarcastic, almost sardonic, depending on the situation/conversation. He can be serious should the time come, but is more prone to levity.

He is very cynical. He found that even the people closest to him are not always looking out for his best interest, so until he is sure beyond a doubt of a person's motives, he stays behind his walls. He detests any sort of vulnerability, and one could go as far as to say he fears it. He my warm up to someone eventually, though it takes a while for him to open up.

He is passionate about the things he cares about, such as training with his blades and hunting. He also has difficulty controlling intense emotions when they manifest themselves, particularly anger. His anger does not build up from yelling to physical violence; it starts out as physical violence. He punches before he begins yelling. When angry, he needs to get it out of his system before he calms down, and that is in a violent manner. He also becomes careless when angry, and one cannot afford to be careless when out in the forest.

He has a playful side, if one really gets to know him, and he has a soft spot for kids, at least, those that are not annoying.

He swears more than he should, and enjoys his alcohol. He tries to be careful, though; there is nothing worse than hunting with a hangover. When nervous, he tends to fidget with his hands, and usually absently twirls a knife around, unless it does not seem like an appropriate time to pull out a knife.

ABILITIES

Blades
He is a fair shot with a bow, fair enough to graze the target, at least, but he is far more adept with blades. His daggers serve him well. His paired daggers are useful mêlée weapons when the need arises — if he ends up in a tight situation and needs to confront an animal— though they tend to ruin the fur of the animals he hunts, so he resorts to using them only when he truly needs to. His shorter dagger serves as a hunting knife, and he can fight with it if necessary. He carries several throwing knifes on his belt, and his is significantly more accurate with those than he is with a bow. He primarily uses his throwing knives while hunting, in place of a bow. He is comfortable with a longsword, but finds it to be an unpractical weapon when hunting. It is heavy and more of a nuisance, so he does not carry one.

Stealth
His best advantage in these treacherous forests stems from his wit and stealth. Throwing knives are more limited in range than a bow, so getting as close to a target as possible is a necessity. He can move silently through the forest, and has learned how to be almost undetectable. He covers his tracks, covers his scent, and makes all efforts not to be noticed.

Limitations

  • Insomnia — Lionel finds it difficult to fall asleep. He also has a tendency to wake up while sleeping. He has always been light sleeper, even more so after he began hunting. He is a bit too on edge to feel comfortable falling asleep for long periods of time; he hates the vulnerability. It used to be a problem, but over the years, Lionel's body has grown accustomed to receiving four hours of sleep a night.

  • Insults — He has a tendency to insult others, even when he does not want to. His blunt, sarcastic nature gives way to remarks many would consider rude or hurtful. He does not realize his comments may offend others, and is working on building that filter. It is bad business, to turn buyers away with snide commentary they find offensive.

  • Migraines — He occasionally suffers from debilitating migraines, usually set off from sudden, extremely bright lights. They do not happen frequently, but when they do, he must retire to his home, or find somewhere in the forest to hide till he feels well enough to return to the city.

  • Shoulder Injury — When he was fifteen, he tore the ligaments in his left shoulder. Naturally, the injury did not heal correctly, and now his shoulder's mobility is hindered. It can be painful and causes him great discomfort when overworked. It also can give out, which is not the most handy thing out in the forest. Due to this discomfort, he tends to favor his right side, which is obvious when he tires out.

  • Solitude — Lionel needs a decent chunk of time alone, without contact with others. Otherwise, he tends to get cranky and snappy. This is usually satisfied when out hunting, but on that sixth day, that one day off, he needs to find time for himself.

HOBBIES

Lionel enjoys his alone time. He takes long walks, listens to the minstrels, and reads. He frequents the pubs around town when he feels more social, or simply in need of a drink. He also spends a great deal of time sharpening his blades, making sure they are as pristine as they can be, and practicing with them.
