Kaliri was on an adventure - a great and epic adventure that had taken her (unbeknownst to her parents) out of the herd lands. Of course if she got caught she was going to be grounded like Falcon had been but Kaliri did not intend to be caught and for the moment wasn't even considering her possible future punishment.

Instead she was creeping along on the tail of..well something. She wasn't sure exactly what, but she knew the tracks were made by something and she was going to find out what! Sneaking through the woods had a bit of a dangerous feel to it but Kaliri wasn't going to let that stop her - much the opposite she rather liked the rush. She might be the smallest of her siblings but she wasn't going to be the most cowardly!

The young colt wasn't far from his family, of course not. He knew better than to sneak out away from them, and also understood he would get in serious amounts of trouble if he were caught! But the purple and cream colt was stubborn, and he had the utmost confidence that he would be able to get himself out of any problems he might run into! He didn't want to make his siblings worry, or his parents, but . . . there was an entire world out there.

He knew he needed to be careful, he had heard stories of the great wicked creatures that were out there. Skinwalkers were especially a threat, though he still didn't entirely know what they were (except pelt-wearing soquili). But Dasharathi knew that there were eyes on all of his siblings, and though he might not see them, they were there. He wasn't ever truly left alone, after all. . . . but at least they were granting him some semblance of independence. He was the baby of the family, but that didn't mean he was a baby, of course not!

Picking his way through the woods, the little colt stretched his wings now and then. He'd flap them, and occasionally skip a bit in an attempt to learn to fly. He was still too young and his wings still too weak to carry him, but he liked to practice. That was the only way he'd get off the ground, after all, was through training. While the colt knew he had to be careful, he was still young, and still prone to forgetting rules.

While practicing stretching and flapping his wings, he was being loud, and not paying a whole heck of a lot of attention to his surroundings. His ears pricked now and then, but for the most part the confident little foal was too busy trying to practice. Leaping up and down, hoping to catch some lift as he scurried through the woods, Dash had no idea he was making a beeline straight towards unknown company.

Quiet...quiet...steps light, wings still..Kaliri slunk through the brush trying to make as little noise as possible. Olo had told her that the only way to get a good look at lots of things was to sneak up on them first. Kaliri wanted to get a good look at whatever it was she was following.

Of course when she spotted through the trees a rustling bouncing foal well...her game of stalk the mysterious creature suddenly turned into 'scare the mysterious foal' and wonder of wonders he was coming straight towards her! Ducking down into the brush Kaliri waited with barely contained energy for the colt to get within range and when he did...

She let loose with all of her power, flaring her wings and bugling the loudest monster cry she could possibly think up as she burst out of the brush like a furious purple monster - she was sure he would think it was great fun, she played this game with her brother's all the time. She didn't stop to consider that a stranger might not find it quite as funny as she did.

Dasharthi liked to think himself as a confident fellow. There was very little that troubled him, and even less that could scare him. Granted, he was still fairly young and rather new to the world, but up until this point, he found pride that he could be so cool, calm and generally awesome. There was never a reason to hurry or rush, and he was always certain of himself.

Perhaps this was a lesson in humility, perhaps it was simply poor timing. Either way, the little colt who was so focused on trying to gain wing strength had no idea that he was walking right in to a trap laid out by the young Kaliri. So when she bugled as loud a cry as he had ever heard, complete with the flapping of her wings, and the fact it was sometihng he had not expected, the little colt lost it.

"AHHHH~!" He yelped, quit suddenly flinging himself to the side and in to a bush. His wings had flared, his tail had whipped about, and his eyes had been wide as plates. Fear had gripped the young colt, complete and utterly surprised, and it was only the fact he found himself entangled in shrubs that kept him in the same area. For a panicked moment he struggled, trying to free his feathers and tail from the plant. He was certain he had just been attacked by a skinwalker, but a terrified glance out caused him to stop, even as he panted to catch his breath and calm his nerves.

That was no skinwalker. . . . . it wasn't even a kalona! It was just a filly. A filly with wings and hooves and . . .and . . . .not one of his sisters, certainly. If his eyes could have grown any wider, they would have, even as he struggled and squirmed to untangle himself from the bush. He . . he had been scared of a FILLY!? Thankfully his parents weren't around, better yet his siblings, because he was certainly they wouldn't let him live such a thing down.

". . . that was sure some roar," he complimented, doing his best to regain his pride and earlier confidence. He wasn't going to admit he hadn't expected such a thing -- maybe that was why his family always taught him to be alert and prepared. Maybe that was something he needed to practice.

Kaliri was estatic! This was the best response from the scare game that she had ever gotten - her brothers always seemed to sense when she was near and hardly got scared at all. Heck sometimes they turned it around and managed to scare her! So this..this was awesome!

Prancing out she lifted her knees in a dance of glee as she studied the colt who was still stuck in the shrubs. "I know...I've been practicing!" She told him proudly. Now that she could see him Kaliri began to take not of a few things - for one he had the same sort of feathery markings on him that she did..and he had purple AND..he had daddy's wings! That was..odd. Out of all her siblings only her brother falcon had managed to inherit his wings..so how in the world had this stranger ended up with wing's like that too? OF course it didn't occur to the filly that there were other Soquili out there like her father and the sensible conclusion was that his parents must have stole them...with magic. Of course.

"How'd you get my daddy's wings!" She suddenly asked him accusingly "Are your parents witch doctors? OR sorcerers? I've heard of Soquili like that, they take things with magic"

Dasharathi was so busy trying to get himself out of the bushes, that for a moment he almost missed the young fillies accusation. How did he get . . . .her father's wings!? His tail tip almost thrashed in surprise, even as he gave her a double take. His silver eyes went a bit large, especially as the filly started to go on and on about witch doctors and sorcerers and magic. . . .? What on earth was she rambling about, he'd never heard such absurdities!

Giving his tail, and one of his wings, one final, solid, tug, he freed himself completely of the bush. Some of its brambles and leaves were stuck to him, but a good shake, and maybe a little grooming, would clean him up in no time. Still, he had bigger things to worry about. . . like this stranger and her odd way of playing with others. "These aren't your Daddy's wings," he stated, giving them a good stretch so she might properly see. "These are my Mothers wings. The only things I got my father was his tail," he swished it around so she might see the unusual, spaded thing. A couple, small, feathers were sprouting out of it, which made it even more strange, but . . . . "I got my Mama's colors though, and all of her feathers. Though. . . though you have feather patterns too, just like me." Where the stranger seemed to be all sorts of upset over this coincidence, Dash found it amazing to meet someone who was . . . .kind of like him. Someone who was kind of like him, in both age and looks, and who wasn't part of his herd or family!

This was . . this was great! "Who're are you, anyway?" He asked, canting his head to the side. Beaming at her, the little colt puffed out his chest proudly and introduced himself. "I'm Dasharathi. . . . but you can call me Dash." Everyone else did, even if it wasn't (perhaps) the most fitting of names. He was so rarely in a hurry, after all.

Kaliri stared at this Dash fellow with a dubious expression on her face, his spaded, feathered tail, which thrashed around rather like a snake to her mind did little to convince her that he wasn't the product of dark magics. Dark magics were evil - she knew this from the various stories she had heard from Syrrin one of the Usdia in the herd who delighted in telling scary tales to her and her brothers.

"I've never seen a tail like that" She finally told the other colt "But those wings are definitely my father's wings - my brother got them too..but I got mama's wings, I only got daddy's feathers - well and his eyes. When I get older he says he'll give me some armor like he wears too" She boasted proudly. She was still pretty sure that the colt's parents were thieves of some sort or that he had been created by an evil sorcerer somewhere..maybe because his parents couldn't have foals of their own..she was pretty sure that she had overheard some of the adults talking about a shrine somewhere and really it all just fit together quite well in her little foal mind. But even if he had been created by dubious mean's...well he seemed nice enough and it was rare she got the chance to meet someone new...or play with someone who wasn't attempting to get the better or her in some fashion.

"I'm Kaliri, my herd lives in a little meadow not to far from here, how about yours?" Was he just passing through or did he live around here? Part of her was kind of hoping that he lived in the area, if nothing else she could bring Falcon and Fair to meet him, she'd get a kick out of showing Falcon that he wasn't quite as unique as he thought he was..maybe then he'd stop bragging about being the only one to inherit their fathers wings.

Unlike Kaliri, the nightmares and stories that Dash had heard weren't necessarily made up. They were about skinwalkers, and kalona, and how both of them could strike fear and terror into their victims. While he didn't know a lot about them, skinwalkers were especially to be looked upon cautiously, and one had actually hurt his family and herd before his birth. There was still much he didn't know, details or names, but he was too little to ask and certainly too young to be told. All he needed to know was to be cautious, be careful, and learn how to defend himself and the rest of the herd.

Which he would.

He was determined to become a great defender someday, and make both of his parents proud. He'd take care of the Padmapani, and make sure they would always be safe. At least, that was his dream.

Keeping his eyes on Kaliri, the young colt listened as she confirmed that he did indeed have his father's wings. He didn't feel the need to argue with her, especially because he honestly didn't know if maybe there were others with such a wing style. Besides, he knew that he took after his mother in appearance, sort of, so no matter what the little filly believed, he understood the truth of the matter. Besides which, he was more interested in talk of armor than anything else. Smile broadening, the colt's tail swished happily behind him as he stepped forward. "Ooooh, armor! Is he a knight of some sort? Does he fight for good?" He questioned, intrigued.

"I'm gonna become a great knight and warrior too. I don't know if I'll get armor, but I'll be strong!" He added proudly, puffing out his chest and letting his little wings flare in his excitement. His mother had armor, and a strange sort of saddle, but Dash didn't really care if he ever got something similar. His father was the herd protector, after all, and he was given such a title even without armor. It was pure strength of will and body that made him strong, and hew as going to follow suit.

There was no question about it, nope.

Oh. . . oh yeah, they should probably introduce one another, shouldn't they? It would only be polite. "I'm Dasharathi, but you can just call me Dash. And I live in the Padmapani Herd, not far from here," he added proudly, giving a jerk of his head over where he had come walking. He wasn't that far from the territory, and he was pretty sure at least someone was keeping an eye on him (even if he couldn't see them).

"Well I don't know if he's a Knight really...but he did save one of the herd foals from drowning in the river! In fact that's how he and mom came to live there" She told him proudly - she couldn't recall her father charging about saving damsels in distress or fighting giant terrifying beasts like the Knights in her mothers stories, but he had Saved Olo once - it was a favorite herd story and she had heard it many times growing up, she supposed that ought to count as fighting for good right?

Eyeing the colt as he puffed himself up Kaliri could see that he was ... unfortunately...bigger then she was, just like her brothers. Oh well, it just seemed her fate to be the small and dainty type like her mother, not that she was going to let that stop her from doing great things either. "One of her herd members went off to train to be a Knight, father says I might be able to go there to when I get older..if I want to. I bet you'll make a fine Knight!" She told the other colt "Do you have to go away to train or does your herd have someone to train you already?" It was nice to hear that his herd wasn't all that far away, it meant that maybe they could meet up again sometime. "Dash huh? Are you fast? With a name like that you should be fast"

Dasharathi was only too happy to talk to another foal his age, especially one that seemed to be as interested in becoming strong and a protector too! It honestly seemed like a far-too-fortuitous meeting, and he was only too happy to have met this filly. . .even if she had scared him in to the bushes. Hopefully she wouldn't pass that rumor around.

"Well, not all warriors and protectors are knights," he amended with a thoughtful nod, his little spaded tail swishing happily behind him. "The fact he was willing and ready to do good, to save someone else, tells me he's definitely of a good sort." And being good, to Dasharathi, was more important than anything. He had grown up while the tears and grief of the great slaughter of a Skinwalker were still new and fresh. He had not heard much of Samsara other than she was not to be crossed, and the herd was always prepared for another ambush.

It was why he absolutely had to grow up strong. He would want to protect and save his herd, if he could; he would want to make sure his family and siblings, and herdmates never had to suffer or hurt again. He would do his mother and father proud, even if it took more work than he believed he could give. "Ooooh. I hope you're able to do so! Do you know any moves now?" He questioned, wondering if maybe he could help teach her, or they could spar together in their free time. Maybe they could swap moves! "My Mom is a warrior, and my father the Protector. Between them both, I get a lot of training. . . We have a few other warriors and fighters too, who promised to teach. I wouldn't mind going to learn from others though, when I got older, so long as I could come back stronger." Well, maybe he would mind, just a little. . . .because what if something happened while he was away? What if he wasn't there to help?

Thankfully, he didn't have to make such decisions at this young and tender of an age. There was time yet, for the proud little colt. "I can be fast, but I don't usually need to be," he explained with a confident little grin.
