There was nothing as great as a free day to herself. No chores to do, no little siblings to be taking care of, no training with her spear. Just a simple day where Alassiel could do as she pleased. The weather was nice, so she’d decided to go out to her usual hiding place and simply relax by fixing a few of her defences she’d set up and check to make sure none of the supplies she’d brought had been taken that night. The journey was also safe, nothing out of the usual really and nothing had chased her. By the time she made it to her secret camp, it was just a little before noon, which meant she’d better get started on some food before she got hungry.

The spot Alassiel had taken as a hideout for training was near a small lake, and there was nothing better than fish and go for a swim. Grabbing her training spear before she went out to the water, she made her way into the water and looked back around quietly. She was listening for any odd sounds, anyone that might have followed her here or was stalking her. Right now the only thing she could hear was her own steady heartbeat in her chest and she shrugged off the weird feeling of being watched. Alassiel shook her head, she was really getting paranoid.

Aminah's heart raced as she wandered through the forest, twigs snapping underfoot. Every sound she made sounded like an explosion, giving away her every move in the strange brush. She'd never ventured this far out before. Everything was strange here.

She thought back to earlier in the day when she had stormed out of her home. She was furious with her parents, and couldn't stand being around them. Her parents had decided that she couldn't travel with the group of Leaf members going to explore the other forests. The team would be leaving, her parents included, and leave her here. Alone. Her frustration and anger had led her to walk as far as her legs could take her, and as the short-winded anger began to ebb she realized that she was far from her home now. Her feet weren't used to the crunching of such harsh leaves, and her eyes weren't used to the strange creatures rustling throught the forest.

Aminah slowed her walk, stopping slowly as she recognized a sound nearby. It was a loud splashing. Made by something seemingly her size. She skittered to the tree nearest the opening and silently peered between two branches. It was a girl! There was a girl in the water. She seemed to be scanning the forest around her and Aminah could swear that their eyes met for a brief second. The girl must not have noticed; she turned her back to Aminah and seemed to shake her head. Aminah sighed a quiet sigh of relief and watched the girl from afar. This was the first shifter she's ever seen besides her father.

Making sure to make little to no movement in the water as Alassiel slowly made her way to water that was about mid thigh for her, then she paused and waited. The fish that had left the area near her returned when the water calmed, and as soon as Alassiel spotted one she tried to spear it. She didn't exactly have a technique, so to anyone that might have seen her doing this might have thought she was simply striking the water. It wasn't after a few more stabs and a bit of sweat did Alassiel actually a fish. Unspearing it from the sharpened, she put the fish into her canvas bag and kept on stabbing. Each time she managed to catch a fish she’d put it in the bag, after having caught five fish and feeling slightly sore from having o stand around unmoving all the time, Alassiel finally headed back to shore.

Dropping down on the shoreline, Alassiel laid down on her back and closed her eyes to soak up some of the sun. The canvas bag was beside her and her spear by her side, she really just wanted to relax and soak up as much freedom time as she could. When the twig snapped behind her, Alassiel sprang up so fast she almost fell over. She grabbed her spear and pointed it out at the forest, eyes narrowing as she scanned the canopy of trees. There! “Hey I see you come out!” Had someone from her village followed her out here?

Aminah's cover was blown.

The girl's shouts had caught her so off guard she nearly fell from the tree. She hugged the tree branch tight as her weight shifted her to the bottom side of the branch, forcing her to hang by her arms and legs. From this standpoint, she looked quite ridiculous.

Her embarrassment got the better of her and she let herself fall into the bush below her, though her landing wasn't nearly as graceful and redeeming as she had hoped. She dragged herself up from the ground and out of the bush on all fours, smiling sheepishly at the girl in front of her from her current position.

"Um... hello?" Her grin twiched slightly at the thought of the spear pointed dangerously in her direction. "Could you possibly point that thing in another direction? It's making me a bit fidgety."

Aminah stood up and brushed the dirt off of her knees with her severely scraped hands. The harsh tree trunk really did a number on her skin; the rough bark was nothing like the trees back home. Though the bush she fell into was much softer than any of the crystal grass she would have crunched through in Tale. She desperately wanted to wash herself off in the water. Her hands wrung themselves behind her back, irritating the now dirty scratches and pushing the first bits of infection into her system. Her nervousness was really getting in the way of her health at this point.

She’d seen it all, the person’s tumble to the ground had been entertaining and Alassiel had let out a soft giggle. It was a girl she could have thought was a shifter if not for her skin and eyes, another one? She thought quietly, this was the second girl she’d seen that looked like a Shifter but was still different than the others. “What’s wrong with your skin and eyes?” Maybe she was seeing wrong? Alassiel squinted a bit at the girl, but it didn’t look like the girl’s skin was going to be changing anytime soon. She wasn’t sure how she was suppose to act with the girl, was she a Shifter or something new altogether? Yet she looked so much like one of them...

At the girl’s request to move her spear, Alassiel looked a little surprised and moved the pointed end so it was up towards the sky. “Sorry.” She ran her hand in her hair behind her head, feeling slightly awkward that she had been pointing a weapon at one of her own. For now, she was going to consider the girl as one of her own until proven otherwise. “So... That’s quite a tumble you took from the tree.” Alassiel was looking at the girls scraps and soon to be dark bruises, then she glanced at the water. “You should wash up in the river... You hungry by any chance?” She herself was getting hungry, so while she was out fishing, sh may as well fish for both of them.

Aminah's stomach openly acknowledged its overwhelming need for food with a loud low gurgle. Her stomach could be eating itself as this point for all she knew. "Ummm... I am a little hungry," she tried to casually say as her stomach interrupted her with another equally loud roar. "Ok, maybe a lot hungry. But I can help with food!" Aminah wasn't very good at hunting or fishing, but she didn't want to seem like a burden to a girl she didn't even know. She would try her best if this girl decided to take her up on the offer.

"I'm Aminah," she said with a wide smile. She looked down at her skin and brushed it as if to rub some of the peach coloring off. "I... um... well, I kind of just wandered in here from my own forest." She didn't want to be branded another outcast so soon. "I'm not from around here... but my father was!" She added as if it would make everything okay and clear to this shifter girl. Like her being a half shifter would overcome her weird appearance. The thought of the spear still scared her a little bit, knowing that she didn’t have any means of protecting herself. And she didn’t even know this girl or what she was capable of. She didn’t want to say the wrong thing and upset her when they could so easily be friends, better friends even than the children she had grown up with.

Chuckling softly, Alassiel knew those sounds quite well, her younger siblings always sounded like that when they were nearing dinner time. “Well I’ve already caught a few fish, we could eat those and you can help me with finding plants or catching more fish if you’re up for it.” She gave a quick glance at the forests ground, they could probably cook the fish with a few herbs from here and there and then find some leaves to make a salad from. Alassiel turned back her attention towards the girl. “It all depends on what you can do really.” Hopefully, the girl knew something about plants because Alassiel lacked quite a bit in that department.

“I’m Alassiel, nice to meet you Aminah.” The shifter wasn’t really sure what the other meant when she said over from her forest, after all this was the only forest she knew even if she hadn’t been far. “What forest?” Sure, Aly hadn’t gotten out much, but surely this girl couldn’t have walked all the way here unless her place was close by? “Oh your father is from here, that’s good.” She wasn’t really sure what to say, she did after all have two siblings that weren’t exactly fom the same bloodline as the rest of the family. “Is your dad still here?”

Aminah brightened up at the mention of plants and gathering. That was something that Aminah was actually good at. Aminah didn’t have a garden of her own yet, but she loved to look for different plants, even if it was just to know what they looked like and what they could do. Her grandmother helped her learn which plants were good and which were… well, not so good or useful for food and medicines. She didn’t know much about the plants here, but she thought that she knew enough at this point to be able to tell poisonous from not.

She nodded her head at Alassiel, since the girl had been kind enough to introduce herself. “I can help out with finding plants.” She smiled broadly. Alassiel had questioned her about her home. She tried to think of a way to explain it, since she didn’t exactly know where she was either. This was her first trip into unknown lands after all. “Well, I’m from a forest over that way.” She pointed out the general direction that she had come. “It’s quite a walk from here.” She laughed. She didn’t know exactly how long she had been walking, but she knew that getting home would take a while.

She started to walk away from Alassiel and over to the bushes to start looking at the berries she had crushed with her fall earlier. “My family lives in the other forest now. My dad left here a long time ago.” She answered honestly enough. She squished a blue colored berry between her fingers and examined the juices, trying to figure out it if was good or not. "Do you live far from here? What's your family like?"

“That’s really good, because I really suck at doing that.” Alassiel made a face, there was no challenge in foraging a plant, and they grew back just as quickly as they’d been picked. Good protein on the other hand, far harder to get. Fish was easy, her village was surrounded by some good rivers and lakes so it made it easy to catch, meat was tricky and you needed some other skill set to catch it. “I’m going to start a fire to get us started.” Raw fish was not on the menu, and it they wanted to get the fish going, it was going to be a good start. “We should gather some dry wood for that first.”

Going to the edge of the forest, Alassiel nodded as she listened to the girl’s explanation of her home. She glanced in the direction the girl had pointed, she didn’t know of anyone who had gone out that far. “You must have walked for a few days.” No wonder she was so hungry! How had she made it out on her own without getting killed? Perhaps her father had taught her how to get here, though why anyone would send their children out by themselves so far was beyond her. If her dad had left a while ago, there were very slim chances of Ally knowing who he was.

“No I don’t live very far, my family tree is maybe twenty minutes from here, maybe a little more.” But her hideout was much closer to their current location, she should she share this information? “I have my own little place very close to here though.” The thought of her family made her chuckle as she gathered wood. “Large, very very large. I have half siblings, kinda like you, but not like you. Some of my siblings have children too, but they live in their own family tree. I think I am next in line to move out…” The thought of moving out was a little scary…

Aminah was happy she could help Alassiel, even if it was in such a small contribution as plants. She thought back to her travels and tried to come up with a time frame of how long she actually walked. They were pretty near the edge of the forest as it was; it couldn’t have been days. But close to a day didn’t seem too far off.

Her ears perked up at the mention of Alassiel’s life and family. She tried to think about how big was big. Aminah was an only child, so big to her would be more than two children. Alassiel spoke like she had multiple older siblings and multiple half-siblings. She couldn’t really imagine having more than three kids in a household. She wondered what Alassiel’s family tree was like when everyone was home.

Alassiel mentioned her turn to leave the family and move out on her own. The thought was an interesting one. Aminah hadn’t given any thought to what would happen when her parents decided that it would be time for her to go and have her own home. She decided to make her thoughts known while she foraged for edible plants.

“I’ve never really thought about moving out before. I don’t really know what that would be like.” She pondered the alternate reality for a minute before turning her attention back to Alassiel. ”I don’t have any siblings myself. I’m an only child. I don’t even think that I have any cousins, though I don’t know much about my dad’s side of the family.”
