Shifter: Enitan
Name: Enitan (Yoruba; "person of story")
Race: Pure-blooded Earthling (Shifter; nocturnal)
Gender: Male
Base Traits: Obsessive-Compulsive, Clingy, & Volatile
Class: Assassin
Personality: While many times an individual will tend to see the negatives when it comes to Enitan's demeanor, he seems to live more on the edge of a very fine blade, on the cusp between pros and cons.
- Obsessive-Compulsive: Enitan has a fixation about keeping things in order or in their rightful place, no matter how trivial. If something is numbered or color-coded, they must be done so in some sort of consistent way or he will feel compelled to right this wrong on his own. The same goes for something that fails to be symmetrical, the biggest of culprits being patterns, such as on clothing. Over the years he has been able to curb such habits to a degree, mostly using what others would refer to as "nervous tendencies." Such habits are predominated by the sharpening of random things with a knife, though the action is but another branch of OCD behavior. This obsessiveness touches mostly on things that are inanimate, but can bleed further. Despite the severe downsides to this trait, it has led Enitan to develop a remarkable eye for detail, for things that don't seem quite right, and a drive for doing things correctly to the best of his ability. It has earned him the badge of "perfectionist."
- Clingy: The boy is slightly on the "outcast" side of the spectrum, a notion borne from both his self-exile from the pet peeves of life as well as the fact that few find his behaviors to exceed being less than... normal, a regular defect. However, he has a bit of a case of separation anxiety that keeps him close to home. While his personality can work to push people away, Enitan can be quick to grow an attachment to an individual. He never seemed to grow up to normal adult standards, and still exhibits very childish naivete towards his society, his people. Fears of rejection, when he has grown a strong enough regard towards someone, can entice him to appear a bit too needy in the social department: he isn't above randomly giving someone a hug. While there is a disregard for personal space, something he runs into quite often, he doesn't tend to take it personal if a person doesn't approve of it (after all, most individuals might find it a bit terrifying to be hugged by an assassin). This social behavior instigates an extremely strong sense of loyalty that is highly difficult to break once an attachment is formed, and is the main spark to initiate such behavior in the first place. It leads to a more caring personality alongside further suspicions of those that have adverse effects on friends.
- Volatile: Quick to fly off the handle, Enitan's short fuse is oftentimes paired with his loyalty to those he deems as allies. He is very protective, and sometimes his standards for drawing the line between friend and foe don't make a lot of sense. Enitan processes things very quickly in his mind, and it can be hard to follow. Split-second decisions and crisis situations show how well he can adapt, but it leads to a bad habit of assuming, and such assumptions tend to lean toward "the worst of a person." It may not show immediately on the outside, but he is partial towards preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. Unfortunately, for those not accustomed to such trains of thought, he may just appear bipolar. The trait appeared out of need, a warped sense of survival, to protect those that have (for some reason or another) blessed him with their friendship. Friendship is a gift rare enough to happen upon for the boy, considering first impressions of Enitan mainly consist of avoidance and labels of "creepy."
Description: Enitan is a definite night owl, preferring the ability to stay under the cover of darkness and making a game out of hiding from the fluorescence of the rainforest, so would most often be found donning the paler tones. Crystals would be mostly symmetrical over his body, with the majority of the gems being on his forearms and shins. It would be quite amusing if there was one to a few glaring ones that were more off-balanced, perhaps on the chest or face. He doesn't always look too approachable, with harsher features, but also not entirely unapproachable. Hairstyle, I wouldn't mind the artist playing with, as long as it's symmetric (maybe something a bit messy, one length all around, and/or on the medium-short side length-wise). Also never opposed to having bangs!
Clothing: I'm sure you're seeing a theme here! Nothing that would be less than symmetric, and the clothing would tend toward being patternless (or have little in the way of one). I'm not too particular, as long as he can move around in it without hampering, it's all good. If I can request it, maybe a headband across the forehead, to ensure that hair stays out of his eyes.
Accessories: Enitan carries with him a small knife, which he will both sharpen and use to sharpen other things with, such as stray twigs on the rainforest floor. It is used instead of surrendering to the urge to fix something mismatched or asymmetric. (It can even be a battle-useless pocket knife, if you want!) I could also see his ears pierced... and wouldn't be surprised if he did the piercing himself.
History:
Enitan's past isn't something that is all that remarkable, or anything that he tends to really bring up at all -- he doesn't see a need to! He grew up in a nurturing home with parents that couldn't be happier that they were blessed with a child, and he was raised to the best of their capabilities.
His odd quirks became evident at a very young age, always organizing and reorganizing the house when he felt compelled to do something. These more forceful obsessive-compulsive patterns of habit showed up and continued to gain noticeable dominance in his behavior at an exponential level around the age of five. Worried about this, his parents started to teach him their family tradition of defensive magicks, hoping to redirect his attention and focus into a more constructive manner before it got out of hand. However, Enitan lacked the enthusiasm his parents held for the medical arts, both of whom were average-grade healers. His disinterest was seen as being too distracted, so his parents kept pressuring him into the craft. Despite the well-meaning intentions, the push to trap him in a job title that he didn't feel suited him was enough for him to develop a loathing for the class, and ultimately, a defection to looking for a more destructive one to focus on.
Enitan started looking for the right class on the wrong foot, in an attempt to get back at his parents, but the choice he eventually landed upon stuck with him beyond the superficial beginnings. He had a knack for the weaponry of the trade, and even grew an attached fondness for the item that could easily be used in everyday life, stealthy in its own right. The conveyed skills of upper-class warriors were something that he started looking to in awe, being all in the name of protecting and growing the tribe toward a better tomorrow. It didn't help that most assassins were nocturnal (an affinity he had long since shared), and were quiet as can be (he always strove to be that graceful).
In the end, his parents' pacifistic nature rubbed him the wrong way, especially in their attempts to turn him similarly. It pushed Enitan into early teenage rebellion, and added to his clumsy way of social interaction when he exiled himself from home at the young age of fourteen. While he never truly hated his parents, and outbursts were common from the get-go in his life, he felt he couldn't handle the pressure anymore. Words could hurt, and sometimes he didn't know when to stop talking. The current living arrangement has remained due to the nearness of home, technically just down a short path through the village from where he resides, and a mutual understanding that Enitan really just needs some space.
Oh holy crap why is this so long I don't even D8
