She was unsettled and deeply troubled, pacing back and forth close to her den, muttering under her breath. Her son had been by earlier that day and she had shooed him away with an angry rant. The rant hadn't worked at first but the hefty slap across his rump had sent him skittering in fear. No doubt he'd be back later, ears laid flat, posture low and submissive and mumble his apologies. But she didn't want his apologies. She wanted him gone. For the timebeing at least. Until she had sorted this mess out.

The 'mess' being Fedha-kialio.

Life had gotten complicated recently. Well...it had always been complicated, but it was at a higher level than normal. Fedha was back but he was not himself and she hated him.

Hated him.

But there was something else in her, too. Something that she had shoved away long ago and pretended it no longer existed. And it was that something which had led her to bringing him back here. To her home. She'd partially hoped that he'd be turned away from the lands but he had been permitted temporary housing. Temporary being a week or two, a month at most, but no longer than that. And she didn't want her son to find out. Didn't want him knowing that she'd brought a rogue male into the lands. Didn't want him to know of her history. Didn't want to appear more of a monster than she already did.

She expelled a breath with a hiss and paused, glancing back towards her den. She felt afraid.

Once they had gotten back to Ivie's den Fedha had done little more than sleep. Sleep and make trips where he could receive some sort of hydration or nourishment.

Ivie had been in and out of the den, from what he could gather. Mostly out, even when his mind was in such a bizarre state he could come to that conclusion. He could not remember most of what had happened when he'd run into her, could not recall the words they had exchanged. He was not even certain why she'd allowed him back here to her den when he'd been so cruel to her their entire lives. Even as cubs. Something panged in his gut, an emotion he had only become familiar with once Ausi disappeared from his life. Guilt... guilt, it was such a filthy emotion. Those who lived without it were much better off.

She must have been the same sweet and scared little lioness he'd first met, somewhere deep down. Maybe she still loved him... no, she seemed... what, afraid to come in the den with him? He groaned and shifted, eyes blinking open slowly. He'd been in a sort of dream like state since he'd first run into her, of that much he could be sure. The few words and interactions he could summon to his mind were curious, had a quality about them that whispered false. He could not recall what was truth and what was something made up in his mind any longer... he disliked the feeling very much.

"... Ivie..." He called out, his voice seemed broken. It lacked the confidence, the little sliver of charm and deception that often tainted his tongue. He didn't like that either. He didn't want to be alone though... he was always so alone...

Thirsty. Yes, he was thirsty. He started to rise. He could do this much, he was getting better. He wouldn't die, he had something to do. He remembered that much... something he wanted to accomplish, to know. Knowledge, that was his power... but he was weak again. So very weak!

Ivie.

Oh. He was awake? What now? Maybe she should just ignore him. She should have done, but she couldn't. She had brought him back now and he was her responsibility. Her emotions raged, though, and she struggled to untangle them in her head. What was she supposed to do now? Help the one who had hurt her? Hurt the one who had chosen another female over her? She had fought so desperately for his attention once and still he had ignored her. But those emotions - the original ones - could not be so easily turned off and they scratched at the surface of her hate.

They scared her.

Her paws, unwittingly, carried her across to the mouth of the den; arriving just as he was finding his feet. She didn't dare help him, though. She was afraid her curse might show her something of him. Something she didn't want to see.

"You're awake." She spoke, needlessly, trying to seem distant. "You can stay until you are well again and then you must leave." He could join, too, she supposed, but Ivie was frightened of that prospect too. She was weak. Always had been. If he lingered too long those feelings she had once had for him might outgrow her anger and she didn't think she could deal with that again. She hadn't properly dealt with it from the first time.

"I'd rather my son not find you here."

His tongue felt thick and sticky, he knew if he tried to say too many words at first that they would stumble over one another, fighting for their right to be the most important and first spoken word. He felt slightly woozy, weak. That in turn churned his stomach in a most unpleasant manner, but he could ignore such a feeling. He would be better soon, he had to be better soon. His steel gaze did not leave Ivie the moment she entered the mouth of her den. He refused to look away, somehow knowing all at once that she must have hated him. But it was clear to him, even in such a weakened state, that feelings still lingered. You did not offer help to those you hated, you left them to die. That was what Fedha would have done, anyhow.

His ears flicked just slightly, capturing each word she'd said. He took a few steps forward, just a tiny bit shaky. There was a limit to how much of his physical state he could hide. "Yes, alright." He said, in an off hand manner that meant he either wasn't really listening to her or he was thinking hard about something else. Or that it didn't matter what she said, because he would do and always has done whatever pleased him. When she mentioned her son something became slightly bitter in his gaze, but quickly it fled. Was it his brother's boy?

"Mm." He needed to accomplish things, he'd set out to do things. He vaguely remembered some, others would probably be gone forever. "Water. I need water." And he moved past her, walking almost steadily. "You're to come less you want me to pass out again out there." He mumbled, his voice not as demanding or strong as he would have liked.

She snarled as he walked on by, his tone suggesting that he either wasn't listening or he didn't care what she had to say? Why had she brought him here to her home? To taint the one place where she felt safe? Would she have to leave again, when all this was done? Find a new home where she could start over again.

And again...

She'd spent so much of her life running around the lands, trying to carve a place for herself in the world. She'd been born in the Pridelands but that had long since ceased to be a home to her. And then she had wandered and wandered until she had found Fedha at the Bahari'mtoto. There she had lingered on the borders like some unwanted squatter, hoping and wishing to win him there. And then she had become a wanderer again, broken-hearted and angry. Only then, by coincidence, did she bump into a lion of the Mwezi'Johari. And she had stayed here ever since as happy as she would probably ever be. Some creatures were not meant to be happy, Ivie had decided long ago, and she was one of those.

"And if you pass out." She snapped. "What am I supposed to do?" He was thin, true, but she had always been small. Would she be able to drag him back? No, she'd sooner slap the life back into him than try to move him...although both options meant touching him.

Could she receive visions from him if he were unconscious?

"Fine, hurry it up then." And she followed him regardless of her foul mood and harsh words. Followed him because she did care - if only a little - though she would tell herself she would not. Her eyes flicked from side to side as she lumbered on, hoping desperately that they would be left alone. Her son was always sneaking about and if he saw Fedha there would be questions. Questions she didn't want to answer. Not ever. The past was better left in the past and the guilts of what she had done back then were better off not being rekindled.

"When do you think you will be better?" She asked him, impatient and nervous.

Fedha was not sure what he liked about this new Ivie; a bitter and less accepting Ivie, an Ivie who was unhappy and only grudgingly cater to his needs. Something of her reminded him of Ausi, perhaps. That wasn't exactly it, but with his mind in such a fog he couldn't put his paw on what it really was. He rolled his eyes when she snapped at him, though her question was a good one. He was well aware she'd do almost anything she could not to have physical contact with another... unless it was that disgusting brother of his, surely. The stray thought soured his already poor mood, tail lashing behind him. "Stay with me." He snapped back, as if it was the obvious answer. He did not look back at her as he snarled out the words, frowning slightly. Yes, Ivie was to stay with him until he deemed it appropriate for her to leave. It didn't matter if this was her pride or her home or if maybe he was a bit weaker than her right now... it was still his decision.

No, perhaps this would not do... he would slowly have to manipulate her back to the old Ivie. How hard would that be though? How much time would it take? He paused in his walking, his breathing slightly heavier. He glanced slowly back to her and watched a moment until she got closer. Stay with him. Yes, someone should have to stay with him... not everyone had to leave him. Or did they? Perhaps he was just the type of lion that would ultimately end up alone in life. No friends, a distant family... equals nowhere to be found. Yes, how could he be by anyone's side when he was better than them all? Ivie would do temporarily, he needed something from her anyhow.

His lip curled as she suddenly passed by him and told him to hurry, and for several seconds he stood completely still in defiance of her words. When would she learn that she couldn't order him around? He did follow after his little resistance though. His steps were sluggish, but not because he was trying to give her any sort of hard time. He thought he might be able to pass it off as such though; he hated being this weak physically, he disliked feeling sick immensely. He would get better soon enough. He had to keep that in his mind... he had a reason to go on, a reason to live.

"Slow down." He growled after her, annoyed. More annoyed at himself because he needed her to slow down than the fact that she was moving faster than he. "I'll be better when I'm better Ivie'lingwa." It wasn't as though he was going to have a vision or something... the very fact poisoned his mind and left a foul taste in his mouth. "Come closer and have a touch, maybe you'll have your answer then." His tone was slightly cruel, somewhat bitter. He had always hated that she did not use her gift better, just because she was terrified of a little pain.

His snapped words shook her and her whole frame visibly shuddered. She was torn between anger and sympathy, though for now it seemed that anger had one. Her tail was thrashing back and forth, depicting her foul mood and her nervousness. It was her nervousness - more than anything - that had her pace quickening. If they could get to the water fast then they could be back at the den before anyone would notice. That would be for the best. The less people knew about this situation, the better. Particularly her son. She wasn't sure what he would think of this.

His mother was currently just the resident loony who couldn't take care of herself. A figure from her past appearing like this would bring questions. Unwanted questions.

And this new Fedha. She wasn't sure what to think of him yet. He'd always been a symbol to her; especially in the early days. He was strength and nobility and beauty. He had mastery of his gift and he treated her with kindness. And oh she had loved him - though not any longer, she told herself. Even when he was at his cruellest, though, he was still strong and confident. She didn't like to see him like this. Because if a strong lion like him could fall, what hope was there for her? The answer was simple: none at all. The bitter, cold realisation of it was like teeth around her throat. She could feel them closing but there was nothing she could do to stop it. Ivie was so lost in these thoughts that when he growled at her to slow down, she jerked - startled - and turned back to look at him.

And--and then---no. No more visions. No more powers. She'd had enough of them and she already knew she did not want to see any of his sufferings. It frightened her to think of what might have happened to him. It wasn't something she wanted to experience. Ever.

Before she could think, she was shrinking away from him, ears back and teeth laid bare in a pathetic echo of a snarl. "No. You. You get away. Don't you come near me, do you understand? Water. We're getting water and that's it." And as she backed away, just behind her, a thin stream came into view, partially masked by rushes. But Ivie continued to back up until her hind paws splashed into the shallows, making the fur on her neck bristle at the cold.

"Quickly. Quick. Before someone else comes." She hissed.
