As usual, it was another hot day in these months of scarcity and drought, and the black lioness was feeling very weighed down. Her black snake companion slithered alongside her, and to be quite frank, she was frustrated.
"No water! How could I let myself do that? How could I not find anything? Oh, Tlitl... This is frustrating.""So you intend to roughen up some rogues, by the way you are going, are you?" piped the black snake, red eyes gleaming with amusement along the way.
He wasn't tired from their trek, but the way he moved made it seem like they had been walking out there in the dry grounds for quite some while. Even his serpentine body was a little weary and out for the day. But it seemed like his feline companion's movement was incensed, as if she had ample energy to do whatever she wished for the rest of the day. Boy, was she mad.
"You haven't lost to any yet, Umbia. I say why not!"Umbia laughed, saying, "Of course I'm on a spree! These rogues... Don't know what they're doing, do they?"
While she was not a hater of them, she was amused and also a little sorry for the fact that the duels she won didn't allow for anyone to actually join their ranks. It could have been exciting should that actually happen - a new face to see, to discover.
When she reached the outpost, she immediately spotted a few rogues hanging around, and she made her way towards them, golden eyes gleaming out of eagerness for the play.

Ever since Donar had gotten his mind set on joining the firekin, he'd been doing a pretty good job of training. Well, as good as it could get when you were on your own. That did mean a lot of hunting, so at least it could not be said the gray male was starved.
He was hanging around at the outpost, rather ignoring any other hopeful rogues. He had no interest in them, after all. He needed to duel a firekin! Maybe it'd do him no harm to spar with a few of these rogues, but Donar didn't really want to ask for help. Asking for help was, just... silly. He frowned as he considered how long it was taking him to really find a firekin to duel, even though he had only been here for a few hours.
Oh, there we go! A firekin! "Hey, you!" He trotted over, and then frowned. She was a girl. He preferred to duel a male, for some dumb reason. He looked a bit concerned for a few moments, before shrugging it off. "Are you here to duel me?" Just him, he dind't care about the other rogues! Donar was eager, if nothing else.

The black lioness's ears perked when her attention was gotten by a rather large and fluffy male coming her way. Ah, it was all so very easy catching all the rogues' eyes. There weren't many, but since the ones who weren't full members yet were only really allowed to wander around this part of the pride until they completed a duel, they might as well be a large crowd. They also wanted specifically a member of the Motoujamii-Simo, and she was very much evidently one. As well, it did help that she was a female, and was able to catch their attention for intentions other than a duel.
Well, first come, first served.
She glanced at the one coming towards her, and saw his frown. Well, that wasn't very nice for a first greeting. But she shrugged it off, being used to frowns held on the expressions of everyone else in the pride. These days were just tenser lately!
"Not so fast, you brute!" called Tlitl to the male, "You're the one here to duel her, get that right!"
He put on a smug face, nodding at Umbia for his good duty.
She waved off her silly snake, smiling at the rogue coming towards her. Well, there wasn't any reason not to accept the offer.
"Ready yourself, then, rogue!" she said merrily, the anticipation of the fight lightening her mood already.
She then took a stance, waiting for him to take one as well. Then, when it appeared that she had a chance to, she lunged towards him, trying for a forceful first hit.

Brute? He furrowed his brows, and looked around for the source of the voice. Oh, a snake! that was just so weird. What was a snake doing walking around with a lion? It was a snake. And it was arguing with him! "It's the same thing!" He furrowed his brows, managing to look a little confused as he considered the semantics. Yes, it was definitely the same thing. It all ended in fighting!
Then the lioness was talking, though, and he didn't stay distracted for long, immediately snapping his attention back on the opponent. He was just getting ready to try to attack her when she came at him, and so his stance wasn't too ideal to get away. He could only manage to turn somewhat to the side, preparing to get away, when Umbia crashed into his shoulder.
He managed not to do anything embarrassing, like fall over, but the hit did wind him, and push him back. Trying to ward her away, he twisted and swung his paws in her general direction.

She smiled, genuinely amused that she about caught him off guard to slam him over a bit; she snapped her jaw at him in fun entertainment during this close encounter, and nimbly backed away before his paws could get within wind-feeling range of her.
"You will need to try better than that, rogue," she said in good jest, smiling all the way.
Ah, now she remembered why she enjoyed this activity. While it didn't exactl bring out the most... courteous in herself, it really was fun sparring with a rogue. Their techniques differed so much and varied greatly from her firekin brethren.
She then ran at him again, not wanting to waste another second's time waiting everything out. That was not how she liked to fight. When she fought, she liked to strike again and again, like a jarring wind constantly cutting away at the rocks and sand. This time, she swung her paw at his cute, fluffy face. It looked quite fluffy, Maybe it could have taken a hit or two?
Tlitl laughed with earnest interest in their duel - mostly because it was Umbia's, and he was always there to support her no matter what endeavor she was pursuing. He hoped he didn't fluster the male too much right before their battle. The lion seemed a bit flustered after his yelling.
Whatever the black and white roguge felt, Tlitl was at least glad the two got into action so fast. It was so boring to see the off rogue tiptoe around these duels.

Donar didn't like being made a fool of, and made a face. "Fine, I will!" But she was all moving around and a little hard to keep up with, which Donar didn't like too much. He was strong and enduring, but not always very quick. At least she got a few distance between them, it gave him more time to prepare for her next attack, and to ignore the snake. Snakes could laugh, who knew!
He had expected her to ram into him again, and hoping he was stronger, or at least heavier, Donar pushed forwards to meet her head on when she came at him. Because he had moved forwards, her paw stuck the side of his head rather than his face, and he was pleased with himself for having foiled that attack. And maybe he could even do a bit of damage himself now!

Umbia thought she was just fighting another hardheaded male wanting to prove himself or something in these lands. There were many of those. Many rogues, especially. She tried hard to conceal a smile of amusement during their fight, but was caught off guard during her strike and wasn't exactly accurate, throwing her off balance as well. She grit her teeth and braced herself suddenly when the rogue male swung into her instead of staying put or swinging elsewhere, but stumbled a little instead.
She darted into as solid a position and recovery she could have from that, and stared a little bit more sternly with her gold eyes.
"Well?" she said softly, yet still audible for him.
Tlitl watched the rogue stay firm and still in spite of Umbia's advance, and squirmed in place when he saw how that threw off his companion. If only she possessed the same balance on the ground as he did! But that would require her to not have any legs, huh? Then again... He should rethink that.
He watched intently as Umbia made the signal for the rogue to come at her with whatever he had. Tlitl was a bit apprehensive about that, seeing as the rogue was a bit on the bulky side, even for a rogue. But he knew Umbia could handle herself, so just remained put in observing silence.

Ha! Okay, now Donar could start feeling a bit better about himself. He did look quite a bit pleased with his small 'victory', but even he wouldn't let that distract him for too long. He still needed to really win this!
"Well what?" He furrowed his brows. One of Donar's problems was total lack of subtlety in just about anything, and that included approaches. He handled fights much better once they were already closer up and underway, but he simply couldn't think of any creative ways to get close to his opponents. So Umbia having managed to gain some distance was definitely not ideal for him.
Undeterred, he rushed at her anyways, figuring he'd decide between trying to tackle her or hit her with his paws once he got close enough to attempt either.

He seemed confused. This made Umbia smile a little; he was just a big brute wanting to join their ranks, just like all the other ones, wasn't he? Well, she'd know him that he had to work for it!
At least it didn't take long for him to realize her provocation to come at her, anyways, and she waited until he was closer before making another move. The way he carried his large body at her made it seem like he wasn't as much of a lithe fighter as she, and she was easily able to calculate his movements, dodging his swing with grace. However, he was up close now, and she felt an attempt to land a strike, to which she blocked without exerting much energy.
"Well, you're quite strong, aren't you?" she said, still bracing his body; then quite suddenly, she tried to shove him off by ramming her head into him.
Tlitl slithered in place excitedly as he watched Umbia dodge the rogue's strike, appreciating Umbia's nimbleness, like always. He would even say that she was almost up to his level of nimbleness, in fact!
When he heard Umbia speak to the rogue, however, he rolled his eyes. Did she always have to speak so freely and provocative like that?

Donar wasn't enjoying fighting someone this quick, probably because he didn't have much of a sense that he was winning yet. Maybe if he knew he was winning, it would be fine.
He also didn't quite understand why she insisted on talking at him. They were fighting! That wasn't really the time to talk. "I–" he couldn't finish the thought, however, because she rammed her head into him. That hurt! He grunted, but Donar didn't recoil from pain, and instead, he only adjusted his footing slightly before shoving back against her, more forcefully than before, trying to use his paws to get her off balance and send her away.
"Yes! I am!" He growled. And he would not hesitate to use his strength!

It came as a surprise to Umbia that she couldn't quite ram him - in fact, he somewhat turned the kinetic energy against her when she was unable to off his footing. She clenched her jaw as her body worked more to deal with the force from the male, but was way overpowered at that moment. She let out a surprised gasp as he knocked her paws off the ground with his sheer and steady weight, and Umbia flew over to the side and into a recoiling roll. Hey! That didn't happen very often. She cocked a brow at him, showing a hint of teeth as she prepared herself for this blow.
She leapt at him, paws at the ready to strike his body and put her all into this movement; despite the fact that he probably did weigh more than her, it was still unimaginable for any rogue to deny that there lacked strength and good muscle in her ancestry's blood!
As Tlitl watched on, it became less clear to him that Umbia would be once again victor of another one of these silly fights with rogues. Sure, another member of the Motoujamii-Simo would give a challenge - even one of her siblings from time to time. But a rogue? Had this ever happened before? It did not register with him, but evidently the fluffy male before him was matching, perhaps surpassing her strength - at least in weight it was true. It couldn't be, though; he thought to himself, shaking his head. She was simply weary from their day's work previously and already wearing thin when she came to fight.

Okay, here he sort of had been a little stupid. After overpowering the female, Donar was feeling quite good about himself. Good enough that when Umbia leaped at him, he was rather unprepared. He mentally chided himself for such a stupid mistake, even as her paws came crashing down on him.
The result was Donar on the floor, after a very good tackle he had stupidly done nothing to avoid. He blinked dumbly from this new position he was in, momentarily dumbstruck. With his face against the ground he could see the snake again, having ignored it most of the fight.
It was still so weird that thing was watching.
Donar didn't want to stay down for long, though. He wanted to, at the very least, end this fight on his feet. So with a growl, he tried to shift into a better position to throw Umbia off.

Umbia smirked when she had the rogue on the ground; she huffed with the exhaustion that came from their little fight and just stood on top of him breathing for a bit. Even she was a bit dumbstruck from this moment, feeling fatigued and overpowered from one silly rogue.
When she felt him moving from underneath her, she faltered, collapsing on the sandy floor. Within seconds, though, she was up and shaking herself off; it had been enough, though, for the two of them.
"Well done," she said in short breath, an amused, mirthful smile coming to her mouth, "You have matched me. I suppose you're now free to walk wherever you wish, and take a role that befits you. Give the guards my regards?"
She nodded in recognition, looking over the rogue once more; she never really did observe them before she fought them. Looking at him now made her realize that he really did seem big and strong, perhaps from another militaristic pride. She wondered what brought him here; his coat didn't seem to do much for the weather.
When Umbia collapsed and the fight seemed to end, Tlitl slithered right over to her, ignoring any stares the rogue might have given him.
"You did well, my friend," he said, then turning his head to the rogue.
"And you, too..."

As soon as he was free, Donar rolled onto his paws, not realizing the fight was over at first. The realization made him frown, because he wasn't entirely sure he had done well. Sure, he'd had a couple good hits, but–
Oh, he was in? Yeah! He rocked that fight!
"Give the guards... oh, okay. Yeah, sure." He wasn't sure he'd actually o that. Not out of malice, but Donar might really forget. "What's your name again?" Then, next thing he knew, the snake was coming over and talking, and it was still just very weird. What kind of a lion really liked hanging out with snakes that much? They were worse than leopards and cheetah. Or hyenas. They didn't even have legs. How are you supposed to befriend something without legs? It was so weird!
Seeing as Donar couldn't really hide much as far as emotion went, even though he made an effort to be polite, as Tlitl had been, he looked very much uncertain as he said. "Thanks. Um... you... thanks." You would have said 'you too', but the snake had only really just watched.

"Umbia. Name's Umbia," she replied, tilting her head.
The rogue seemed slow. Most of them were, but this one wasn't that much of a talker during their fight. Sometimes she got more of a kick from the words exchanged than her actual fights. But this one... This one just wanted to do business. In a way, she kind of liked it.
"And this is Tlitl," she remarked, going over his confused expression, "You may see a few of us firekin with our companions. Tlitl here is from the tribe of snakes, of course - his father is my own aunt's companion. Perhaps you have not had such relationships where you are from?"
Tlitl slithered onto Umbia's available arm, gaining height for the moment to look back at the male. He seemed to be at unease in their presence - or maybe it was Tlitl's doing. He chuckled in his place, nodding in tune to Umbia's comments.
"There are quite a number of us here, yes; you'd be wise to not give another one of my kind that look, or else you may find yourself with some rather painful, gaping holes one morning..." he laughed again, finding that thought rather amusing for some reason, though he had innocent intentions.
"I've seen a few of my brethren n** some of the biggest firekin around and get away with it!"
