It has been a week since Billy had finally landed a job. It was retail, but he found himself liking it, for the dress code if nothing else. He was glad to finally have an income. He hadn't realized just what a weight had been on his shoulders until it was lifted.
His stomach was also glad. He had been eating most of his meals out of vending machines for...perhaps a year now? The chance to walk in to a good old fast food joint and be able to order something was absolutely fabulous.
Some would comment on how greasy and bad for you the food was, but he didn't care. In fact, Billy couldn't always stomach home cooked food well. Perhaps it was because of a lifetime of this type of fast, cheap, food that his insides weren't acclimated to the richness of 'real' food... The burger joint had a deal on cheeseburgers today - Billy planned on making good on that deal, stashing them away in the fridge for lunch through out the week. That was another thing - Billy had a squirrel-y tendency to stash away food. Another habit ingrained in him since childhood.
The time was another 'hell hour' for the resturaunt. Most people were getting off of work - Billy included - and looking to get their dinner. He didn't expect to see anyone he knew here... After all, he really didn't know that many people to begin with, but...

Chris didn't even bother heading back to his apartment after practice one day. Although it was summer and their team wasn't technically in training, a good handful of his teammates also had nothing better to do, and it was a good distraction on particularly lonely days.
Had he known the consequences of having Paris move out the month before, he wouldn't have done it... Or would he have? After all, he was finally getting to experience the kind of independence he'd been vying for, right?
But that wasn't the primary reason he didn't head back to his empty apartment, save for his loyal dog. Along with Paris's absence, there was a general absence of food in the refrigerator. Yeah, there was sometimes a left over carton of takeout, or maybe even pieces of pizza shoved onto a plate before being thrown in to join whatever else was in there, but it wasn't anything that was really appetizing to him.
Instead, Chris made his way into a local burger joint. It wasn't anything fancy, but his classmates had given it good reviews.
Now if only he could get through waiting in line...
Glancing over the crowd, he almost missed the mop of silver hair, but after a few moments of wondering where he'd seen that hair before, he realized who it was. "Billy?" he asked, looking his way from the line beside him. It was almost strange not seeing him with Ladon... and a few moments of glancing around confirmed that Billy was indeed alone (unless his boyfriend was in the bathroom!). "How have you been...?"
He still wasn't sure if he should be wary about his presence or not... despite the week at the beach.

Billy was just receiving his food when he heard his name. Looking over in that direction he saw Chris, with no Paris in sight. Granted, if Paris had been with Chris then he doubted he would have gotten any sort of greeting.
"Alright," he replied, "Got a job, so that's some pressure off my back... How about you?"
Billy stood on the other side of the little bar that divided the line from the rest of the restaurant as the two conversed. He'd gotten his food bagged to go despite the fact that he'd probably sit down and eat it anyway, but seeing as he ordered more than he could eat, having the bag when he got ready to go would come in handy.

"Ah, congrats," he said in regards to the news about Billy's new job. It definitely had to be a stress relief knowing that some money was coming in.
N-no, he hadn't really ever had a job, himself. Sure, he worked at Paris's father's store for a handful of months, but... that wasn't enough to really say he'd worked there. But that wasn't really the point of the conversation.
"Ladon's not here?" he asked, unable to not voice his curiosity as he waited for someone's register to open so he could order. "I mean... It's not like I expect you guys to be together all the time. I just... I mean, I hope he's doing well." Was it weird that he was so concerned about someone else's boyfriend? No... it wasn't like that at all. Chris wouldn't admit it out loud, but he'd grown somewhat fond of the young man he'd once known only from seeing him sitting at the same park bench, offering him small smiles of encouragement, before finally speaking to him.
That was before he knew Ladon and Paris were best friends, even...

"Thanks. And no, Ladon's at home."
Probably. Or somewhere that couldn't be mentioned doing only he knew what....
"Things are fine - hopefully on a rise. I haven't handled being useless very well," Billy threw in a bit of a laugh, "I mean, when you start questioning your worth and what you can offer your loved ones...iiit can lead you to a dark place in the mind."
Billy was more comfortable in all that now - he wasn't so worried about Ladon and him maintaining the apartment, food, and could even now actually do things for Ladon. And Sammy. Goodness knows Billy spoiled that ferret almost as bad as he would Ladon.
"And how about you and Paris? Things going alright?"
Things had seemed off, but Billy hadn't really be interested in observing any of that at the time. He still wasn't, really, but all in polite conversation....

Chris nearly laughed when Paris was brought up, but he forced it back in favor of an almost painful smile. Not because of his complications with his boyfriend(?), but because hearing it out of Billy's mouth was something of a surprise.
"He's fine. Things are fine," he said instead, carefully avoiding eye contact as he finally stepped forward to order the food he would be eating that night in place of something Paris would have probably made him... and something more healthy, at that.
"Sorry... you guys don't really get along, so... the feigned curiosity is funny," he dared to assume from past experiences. Paris was usually apologizing to him about dragging him around Billy and Billy's attitude. There were times Chris wasn't the most comfortable around the guy, but it wasn't as if he'd hauled off and punched him in the face... like Babylon that one time.
But that could also be considered him being the jerk.
"Are you staying here or heading out?" he figured he should ask. As strange as it was talking to him, it would be even more awkward to sit on opposite sides of the restaurant and look at each other... If there were a lot of tables open... At the moment, it seemed that if they wanted to eat there, they'd be sharing a table.

Billy shrugged, "Just trying to make polite conversation. I do try, anyway. But I also own up to being a total a*****e, too, so..."
Billy had the time a few months back to come to many self-realizations, and had come to accept himself for who he was, and make efforts to be better. Still, he knew he could, and often did, come off as an a**. He accepted that.
"The way you say fine though...I'd wager things aren't so 'fine,' but it is none of my business. I'm not going to pry, but, as some small measure of esprit de corps, I'll lend an ear. And yes, I had planned to eat here."
His reasoning was simple - as far as Billy could tell, Ladon enjoyed their little group things, and Billy was all for Ladon achieving some sort of social life. There was always the question of Billy's own lack of social life but....Billy wasn't so much concerned about himself. So, he figured he should do what he could to open up to friendship.

He wasn't sure what to do now. He hesitated, staring at Billy as if he hadn't quite seen him before. And then his surprise turned skeptical and wary, wondering if he would somehow use the information against Paris... But...
"There's... a booth over there," Chris said with a nod before anyone else could take it. He made his way over, regardless and took a seat, wondering if Billy would understand the invitation to sit with him. He was still hesitant, and pulled some fries out of his bag of food to chew on in his attempt to make himself decide if he was going to try this. He just... didn't usually talk about his problems. And it was his own problem, to begin with...
"I'd asked Paris to move in with me... but then... I'm pretty sure he's a little more into the relationship than I think I'm ready for... so I sent him to live with my mom. That's really strange, isn't it?" he blurted out before he could even think about changing his mind. "Like... people don't do that, do they? They just break up and move on, not... agree to an open relationship and then... kick their boyfriend out of the apartment he'd just moved into and send him to live with their mother because his father had just died and there's nowhere else for him to go, right??"
Now even he thought he was crazy...

Billy sat down and listened, raising a brow at some parts. Billy wasn't all that well versed in family - is own he tried to ignore, and they seemed content to forget they even had a son. Still, that didn't mean he didn't have some idea of what would be normal.
"It's perfectly normal for one to want to do something out of the kindness of their heart and then upon later review realize that they got in over their head. So, let me get this straight - Paris loses his father, whom he was presumably living with at the time, so you offer your home. That was a kind, friendly, thing to do. Most, though, would have likely made it a temporary thing until the other party could 'get back on their feet' emotionally or whatever. But considering you two were dating, you made it, at the time, a more permanent thing. Then something makes you realize that maybe you don't feel as strongly as he does about the relationship, and you freak out. Obviously you need time to figure yourself out, so you need time to yourself, but that is hard to find when the source of the problem is right there." Brethe, wordy-mc-wordypants.
"Taking a break to figure things out seems like the logical step. However, by sending him to your mother, you are still keeping him close. I'll be honest, that probably is hurting Paris. Every day he is there is a reminder of you, and every thought of you, the thought that maybe you will decide you don't want him, is like a dagger through the heart. It kills the spirit. Sending him to your mother was a mistake. The better thing to do was to let him trouble himself with finding his own place and way to pay for it. At least then, his mind would have other things to think about. He could busy himself with that while you do what you need to do. Maybe then he could figure himself out as well, rather than dwelling on the uncertain future."
Billy sighed, and finally took a sip of his drink.
"It sounds cruel, kicking someone out like that, but it's just as cruel to have sent him to your mother. I've already stated the reasons why. And I'm sure your intentions were good and all, but..."
It was probably odd for anyone that knew him to hear him make an argument in Paris' favor, but Billy was calling it like he saw it.

Chris shifted uncomfortably, trying to eat some more of his fries as Billy went through the motions of trying to piece together what was going on. He didn't have to call it 'cruel' though... that was a little harsh, wasn't it...?
Bue was he cruel? Forcing Paris to stay within arms' reach when he should be allowed to live his own life...?
"He had nowhere to go..." he said, trying to excuse himself and the feelings of guilt welling up inside him. "He couldn't exactly ask his friends... he doesn't have many, and he's too kind to bother them like that," he said, fiddling with the wrappings of the burger he'd bought.
There were so many reasons why Paris couldn't just... have other people go out on a limb for him. He was happy that he at least had his mother to watch over him when he was doing questionable things that may or may not have stopped.
Hearing Billy talk like this, though... he didn't know what to think. Paris usually didn't have anything good to say about him, other than the fact that he tolerated him for Ladon's sake. He didn't say bad things, necessarily... but he didn't speak fondly of him.

"I've been the one kicked out by their lover before," Billy said, as if that made his opinion all that much more solid, "No friends, no family, no job, no money...."
It was times like that when you really find out just how resourceful you could be. It had been a learning experience - and just because he had taken the opportunity to get a little bit of college under his belt, that was not meant to be a pun.
"But then again, the whole deal really wasn't about Paris - it's about you. You're the one who needs to figure them self out, after all," He shrugged, and nommed.

Chris frowned as he picked at the french fries on his tray. His appetite was quickly dwindling the more his guilt set in. Was Billy right in what he was saying...? Was it about him and not about Paris...?
“I... think I need to talk to him,” he said, feeling slightly nervous about the idea. He knew he’d hurt him and... it was horrible.
He knew he had a lot of growing up to do. A lot more maturing with even more to experience in life. Paris was just one facet of his life, but a very important one.
“You wouldn’t be alone now,” Chris felt the need to point out. “If you need anything...” he trailed off, feeling awkward about offering anything to Billy when he knew Paris wasn’t all that comfortable around him...
But if it meant Ladon had less to worry and stress out about in the end... it would all be worth it.
“Thanks,” he finished instead, standing from his seat, collecting the food he’d barely touched into the paper bag it had come in, and pushed it towards Billy. “Think of it as a peace offering,” he said with a shrug, hoping he wasn’t doing anything to offend him as he took a step back to head towards the door.
He still wasn’t sure what he had to do, but he knew what he didn’t want to do — hurt Paris even more.F a y t h - x This is old, yikes! But we can totally call this done if you’re okay with it! You can post again if you want!! <33
