Mist hovered over the cattails in an eerie, early-morning haze of gray. The mostly monochrome doe picked her way along the rocky stream bank, lifting small, black hooves carefully clear of ensnaring roots and various pieces of beached flotsam and jetsam. A dark shape shadowed her movements as a rustle in the tall grass and the occasional sniffing sound. Lights the Way lifted her head above the grass to blink at the questing doe and gave a soft 'wuff' to catch her attention.

Walks With Death looked over to her hound and heaved herself up the steep shore to make her way towards Light. "Did you find it? I'm having no luck by the water..oh!" The doe peered down at the plants that the hound sat next to and sniffed them gingerly before nodding. "Gosh, I'd really love to dig this one up.. it's the biggest I've seen in a while." She paused for a moment before nodding and carefully digging around the plant and pulling it gently onto a large square of old boar pelt. With a pleased huff, she gripped a corner of the skin and began dragging it back to her home.

The early morning air hung chilly with the mist. It chilled the air and the doe that was left panting in the mist. She shook the cold water from her fur, limping from the clear waters. Never Heard had hoped to catch some fish or ease the pain of the gash on her right hind leg. It made her life exceedingly difficult and hindered her traveling progress. She didn't know any remedies or Kin to help, the best thought that came to mind was to soak it in cool water. It soothed it for a time, but it soon began to burn and bother her. She even moved slower, making her more vulnerable. "Best to wait and rest...."

It was a slow going process but after a labored limp-walk down the flowing stream, she found a small grove of willows. Whisper knew there were possibly other Kin living in the place she happened upon and with a small sigh she pushed on. She stopped just at the edge of her new resting place feeling unable to go on. She swept the ground with her tail and uttered another small sigh. The wound didn't seemed to be getting any better and she couldn't continue on at that state. She laid her head down in the soft grass, accepting defeat for the moment to hopefully get rest.

Reaper paused and straightened her spine briefly. "This plant is heavier than I expected." But she could see her little stand of willow trees and it didn't take long to drag the pelt the rest of the way. "Light.." she didn't look up from inspecting her new plant with pride. "..could you dig a hole for it in the garden?" She blinked up at the hound's retreating form to make sure the spot chosen was appropriate before following with the-- who was that? The doe caught the shape of something at the edge of one of the willows and snorted in surprise. Immediately, her eaglehound was in front of her, body tense and prepared to defend her mistress. "I..Light, that's hardly helpful. It doesn't look like it's going anywhere. Uhm.." She looked down at her new plant and the half dug hole. "Finish this up, okay?"

Light flicked her ears back and looked like she might not listen for a moment before stalking back to her previous project. Reaper shook her head and approached the stranger with caution. "Hello?" The body was still except for the rise and fall of breathing. Taking a quick glance over the doe laying on the ground, Reaper saw the obvious injury and took another step closer to the resting form. "Aww..you're hurt. Can you hear me?" She nudged the doe timidly, not wanting to startle her but figuring that it would be easier to help her and more comfortable out of the mist at least.

Whisper took no notice to the sounds around her. She concentrated on her rest. Slowly breathing and ignoring the burning pain. At least the ground was soft and moist. It almost muffled the faint hoof falls of a Kin and her pet. The doe was upon Whisper before she realized, not that she could do much in the way of fending her off. Her ears perked at the voice, though she didn't readily open her eye. When the stranger nudged her, her ears flattened back in mild annoyance. She peeked with an orange eye in the direction of the stranger, wondering why she was bothering her.

"Yes...." Whisper's voice was calm and soft, her tail slide across the earth slowly. "I can hear you." Her eyes scanned the doe impassively before she lifted to her feet to stand. It took her some time, but with great effort she tried to be on equal ground with the other. Her hind leg held off the ground so as not to cause her any more pain. "Sorry if I disturbed you..." Her voice trailed off quietly as her eyes wandered to the eaglehound, wondering if the two had been out hunting that day.

Light had finished dragging the plant into its new home and covering it with damp, swamp dirt before approaching her mistress and the stranger. Reaper glanced at her hound and smiled to ease possible concerns before turning back to the dark-hued doe. "My name is Walks With Death, but most call me Reaper, and the hound is Lights the Way or Light. I'm sorry if I startled you..It is dry under the willows and I have a pelt or two that might make you more comfortable." Her smile widened as she tried to convey that she was hardly a threat. From her wanderings she had gathered that not all isolated kin like herself were very kind and if one had too many run-ins with such creatures, they might come to expect it of those that lived on the edges of society. The pale doe nodded over at a small pile of foxbun and mongoose pelts arranged into something of a bed. It wasn't much but it was warmer than the ground.

"If you're hurt you shouldn't be wandering around anyway..I can take a look at that cut if you'd like as well." She backed away from the edge of the willows and walked deeper into the little grove as she spoke to nose through bundles of dried leaves. With a little shake of her head, she walked over to her garden and plucked a few leaves from a spindly plant and placed them in a turtle shell filled with rain water. Walking back over to the doe, she smiled again. "I can help with the pain at the very least." She followed the doe's gaze to her garden and assumed that she was wondering what Reaper and Light had been up to. "I was out with Light collecting another plant for my herb garden."

The doe was quiet momentarily after getting an eyeful of the Eaglehound and what she had been doing. Then she turned her attention back to the stranger named Reaper. “never Heard.” She said simply and quietly, bowing her head a little before wincing. “You can call me Whisper.” Her voice was as quite as her name. Whisper had no need or want to argue so she weakly moved to Reaper's proposed spot. She looked back after she had limped to the spot to lie her tired bones on the dry, soft pelts. It felt pleasing to her tired body.

“How very kind of you.” Whisper's eyes were trained on the many pelts as she thanked Reaper. Her tail swept along them gentle and she nuzzled her head down into them, breathing in their scent. “You really didn't have to do this.” She looked up at the doe and Eaglehound, very much grateful for the help. “I'll take any help you are willing to offer.” It took her a moment to continue on, distracted by another thought. “And your garden is lovely.” She smiled a bit, having no time or the attention span to garden herself.

Reaper watched the doe--no, Whisper, as she had introduced herself, blue eyes hiding the sympathy she felt as the wounded doe accepted her invitation and went to rest on the pelts. After only a second of quiet observation, she walked over to a small pile of carefully organized herbs and dropped some into another turtle shell. Gently picking it up, she placed it near Whisper and smiled softly. "If you want to drink a little of that, willow bark helps with pain.." She glanced at the injured leg, slowly going through the herb lore that she knew and trying to decide what would be helpful. "How did this happen? If you don't mind me asking.. it looks awful." Reaper had never been one to handle pain well, probably one of the reasons why she became a healer instead of a hunter, and always found herself being more than a little empathetic to an injured kin's pains. "I..I might have something that can stop the bleeding and possible infection." She murmured almost to herself and walked a few feet away to nose through a selection of dried plant life.

Whisper watched the doe curiously. He head still on the furs, but her bright oranges eyes did their best to follow Reaper's movements. She lifted her head up as the turtle shell was placed near her head. She eyed it skeptically, wondering just what was in it, but if this doe did say that it would help relieve the pain, it was worth a try. Whisper dipped her head in slowly, lapping up some of the concoction.

"It tasted... Different." She managed to choke out. It was not quite to her liking but if it would help... Her ears laid back at the question. It wasn't that bad of an injury, really. Just a wound acquired from everyday activities like... Falling into a thicket. She would have liked to make up a tale about how a monster attacked her. She sighed looking up at the doe, "It was just an accident." She nodded her head, sinking it back into the furs. "If you could do that, I'd greatly appreciate it."
