The manilla folder which had been slipped under Amarus' door was a welcome change from her everyday routine: which, at the moment, was absolutely nothing. Amarus liked the colours of the pin she received, and it wasn't until she managed to find out more about her opponent that she found out it was because they were a horseman... from War, much less. Oh, War; the clan Amarus had loved most of the two she had visited predominantly, despite the fact that conquest had the lotus thing going on for them.

Although it was just a game, and it wasn't like anything in particular was at stake, Amarus put on her game-face. And in the dead of night, circulated the grounds, trying to wait for Jay's bright wings to appear.

Surely, they would appear. And Amarus would pin her opponent, come hell or high waters. It took some time, Amarus circling and recircling the grounds in the dim light... and even when she did, her own purple glow illuminated the darkness near her, making her kind of a beacon. Even if she went transparent.

On the bright side, being a ghost meant she didn't need to feel cold while she waited. She had a plan: if Jay appeared on foot, Mar would rush her and drive the heel of her foot into Jay's stomach-- no, this was a game. Okay. Better plan. Amarus would rush Jay and try to pin her. Yes. That counted as a plan.

If Jay was in the air... well, Amarus had too much experience flinging objects up into the sky using treebranches. Far too much experience. And so, regardless of how Jay approached, Amarus went ahead with her plan.

Jay loved games. She loved things that piqued her interest and could break the monotony of rebuilding the Clans. As important as the task and as precious as the Clans were to her, she also had something of a bird brain that needed something to keep her stimulated. This lovely little game she had signed up for would hopefully do the trick. Earlier today she had received her own manila folder. It would be a great pleasure to try and pin her fellow bluejay friend, Israfel, but for now she probably should have kept her guard up for her attacker. It might have done her some good to pay attention.

Instead she was up in a tree because this particular war horsewoman really loved her trees. The only thing she was missing was a treehouse and a hammock. There was a long, dried blade of grass and feathers pooled in her lap while Jay fiddled around with her incomplete necklace. She tied the grass around the feather and hummed. Not quite. Jay pulled apart the piece of jewelry until she was left with raw materials.

But then a pink glow caught her eye. Oh? Most things did not glow a pretty pink. Her eyes gleamed in the moonlight as she let the materials float to the ground before she got to her feet and jumped off the tree branch. Jay flapped her wings and she headed toward the light source. Something hit her and then another. Instinct began to take over as she spun out of the way. She laughed. “You’ve got some aim, huh?” she called out as she caught one of the objects and flung it back to Amarus. “Nice to meet you!”

It was the descent of the objects which had first alerted Amarus to Jay's whereabouts. And, shortly after, Amarus felt the same object collide with her own self-- basically a hit for a hit. Amarus smiled internally, but her face was mirror-smoothe. Although Amarus knew it was a game, she approached basically everything with the notion that it was a competition of strengths, of wit, of speed-- everything. And in order to best her opponent, she would need to remain sharp, vigilant.

She could not make time for pleasantries! "Good evening-- your aim is excellent as well," Mar addressed Jay. "I'm Amarus. The Lotus Eater," she went on, her face still blank. Good job with the people skills, Mar; there's a reason why you have trouble making friends.

At least she had descended a little. Amarus fixed one of the objects into a forked and bent branch and tried to aim it before letting it fly at Jay. If she could persuade the War woman to get closer and stop flying for now, then she would return to her usual melee combat. Man, who would have thought messing around out of boredom would ever yield applicable combat skills.

(( In keeping with the 5-day posting rule with the game, Amarus successfully tags Jay! ))
