So many things raced through Kilian’s mind as he set off from home. This would be his first attempt at battling a dragon. His nerves were on end but his determination was strong. He had to start somewhere with his hunt for the dragons that had destroyed his home and part of his family. He owed that much to his cousin Nekane. Though he knew he wasn’t nowhere strong enough to defeat a Diabi dragon, let alone five. For that reason, he had decided to go after the weakest dragon he knew of, the Ysali.

Kilian took a deep breath, as he reached the city the outskirts of the city, and concentrated his senses on his surroundings. After a few moments, he had an idea on where to go and set off toward the forest closest to the city. He could sense a rather weak Ysali dragon roaming around. “Too easy.” He mumbled as he burst into the forest. The noise he made echoed through the forest, sending animals skittering in every direction. Kilian just ignored the fact that he made his appearance known and continued onward in his search for the dragon.

Twigs cracked under the weight of Kilian’s feet as he traversed the uneven terrain of the forest. His inexperience in hunting dragons was showing through but he didn’t care. His thoughts were on killing a dragon. He needed to do it. It was a desire that had been growing inside of him ever since the attack on his village. On his family. His ears twitched as a noise reached them. Kilian came to an abrupt stop, sending pebbles and twigs flying in front of him. He could hear low growls and something that sounded like stomping, only from something so much bigger than him.

As if instinct took over, Kilian moved forward slower. Knowing that his prey was just a few feet away from him made his nerves fly into overdrive. His hands started shaking and he gripped onto the trunk of a nearby tree as he leaned around it. His sense reached out and with his other way of seeing, he was able to see a Ysali dragon standing in a small clearing. The breath in Kilian’s chest caught. It was one thing to say he was going to go after a dragon and a completely different one to actually be so close to one. Memories of his past came rushing back and though this dragon was no where near the size or fierceness of a Diabi dragon, it still freaked Kilian to be so near it.

He couldn’t move a muscle. He just stood there as the dragon searched around for prey. The Ysali dragon stopped in its tracks, raising its nostrils to the air, as if catching the scent of something tasty. Kilian almost realized too late that the dragon had started to come in his direction. He hastily looked around the forest floor for something to defend himself with. Oh why hadn’t he brought a weapon? Seeing a large sized rock he hefted it up and threw it, as hard as he could, at the dragon. The rock grazed the Ysali dragon’s neck, doing very little damage. In fact, it just managed to enrage the dragon even more. Abandoning his hope of defeating a dragon today, Kilian took off, zig zagging and avoiding trees in his way. More than a few times the dragon had almost gotten him with his claws or fire. Breathing hard, Kilian broke free from the forest and kept running, not bothering to look back until he reached the outskirts of the city. Seeing that the dragon had not followed him, he plopped down onto the ground and sighed in relief.
His adventure had been a failure this time around. He muttered an oath as he punched his fist to the ground. He would just have to try harder next time.
