i've done it in the past but i can't anymore, my firm uses the Bradford system now, when your absence days are added up and you get points, once you get to 600 points you're out of the door neutral

How many points do u get for one days absence??? confused

yes it's legal, it's a system that's been used in the US for years, i'll see if i can attempt to explain it... points are calculated like so S x S x D
Which is, spell of absence x spell of absence x number of days absent
this is totted up over a 12 month period, if you have one day off this seems to mean you only get one point, or 3 days off = 3 points, but if you have more time off after that it's all multiplied by your previous absences and goes up at a scary rate.
a fat, lazy cow that i work with has just had 20 days off, if she has more time off now it will be multiplied by her previous spell of absence and by 20 too i think! so if she gets herself signed off for 3 weeks once the weather gets nicer(as she has a habit of doing) her absence will be calculated thus..S x S will be 2, x D will be 35, so she'd rack up 70 points( i think sweatdrop ) and if she has more absent after that it will be multiplied by 3 and so on... it's a rolling score too, it will only return to zero if you have no absence for 12 months
this has been brought in to try and curb the habitual skiving, the people who never turn up on Friday on lates and so on, i can see it working too!

i don't know how widespread the Bradford system is over there, i just know that's where it originated.
hippo yes they can sack you even if you're sick, that's the whole point. People have milked the past disciplinary system for years, having months off on the sick at a time, and it's these people who the new system is aimed at, so they can be got rid off
