The afternoon was the safest time for him to explore the Bahari lands - not that he was concerned with terrains or threats, but it gave him a unique opportunity to greet the locals and introduce himself. Familiarity would ensure he didn't breed contempt and years of experience had taught him that a simple 'hello' tended to make some things much easier. Today was of no exception and as such, he wandered idly across the shoreline towards the haunts of most of the locals - they were rarely in their dens during the day and had their favoured hangouts... he had learnt this much from observing them from the cliff tops.
Lips pursed and head ever so slightly bowed against the salt air, the lion padded across the coast and heaved a sigh. He was still unaccustomed to the bizarre surface, the sand was slippery and his weathered paws were used to hard rock faces. Suffice to say that his progress was slow and occasionally unsteady but secret practice during the evening had ensured he was better than he was. Alas, he still wasn't perfect and as such, he regularly had to watch his footing.
Nevertheless, he had rarely let such things defeat him before and this afternoon he wasn't about to be defeated either. Thus he continued unperturbed, his eyes occasionally flicking up to keep an eye out for the locals. A simple greeting would suffice, or at least he suspected this would be sufficient, but he wasn't so lacking in social skills that he couldn't hold a conversation if need be!

Since washing up on the Bahari shore, Athena had more or less... Adjusted. Her prior home had also been on a beach front space, so she had no problems getting used to the sand and the shells and the surf. She was just wary of the water, was all. So she'd taken up a job that had meant not going swimming, which was building. The black and purple lioness, relaxing on a rock well away from the surf, couldn't help but huff at the crashing waves. Vile things, yanking the ground out of under her... She started to sneer at them, only for a crash to interrupt her thoughts. She turned and stared at her daughter, then simply shook her head. "Be more careful, Eris..."Eris smiled sheepishly, very much upside-down. The red lioness, being not much for fighting, hunting, or building, and not too creative in the story department to be entertaining cubs, had taken up work helping the healers of the pride. Unlike her mother, she had few qualms getting her paws wet, and would go out and gather floating things that might be needed, if they were needed. She found the 'gatherer' deal was... Easier. She didn't feel as pressured to do well, because she could take her time doing it. Turning herself over and shaking sand as she stood, Eris' blue eyes soon spied the new Mkuru-maji. "Good afternoon, Ram!"Athena looked at her daughter funny. "How can you remember everybody's names? I can barely keep some of them straight, and there's so many twins running around it doesn't HELP any!" Was there something in the water...?

Word got around quickly - he wasn't anticipating that another would know his name and yet everyone did. He had to keep reminding himself that he was no longer an anonymous rogue and this was all thanks to his wayward daughter. Alas, this did leave him in quite the predicament as he flicked his gaze upwards and planted his eyes first on Eris and then on Athena - based on body language the younger female seemed more approachable while the other seemed...disgruntled, eh, well every individual had their own personality.
"Good afternoon," he replied mildly as he made his way slowly towards the lionesses. He braced himself and splayed his paws out a little more to avoid tripping over and hazarded a half smile - let no one say he didn't try to make things work, even if he was struggling to regard this place as home - sure it was pretty, but it was just too different for him to slot comfortably into as if nothing had changed!
"I assume the water is pleasant this morning," he mused, glancing at Eris's dampened coat. "And the sun's rays are equally good," he added as he regarded Athena.
There was a pause as he considered how best to approach the situation and then he opted for honesty. "You will have to forgive me but I do not believe we have met? You have the pleasure of knowing my name but I do not have the honour of yours?"

The younger lioness was first to open her mouth, all eagerness to meet others. "Oh, yes, the water's simply wonderful today! Calm and gentle, and very welcoming to those simply seeking a swim!" She took another step closer, smile on her maw. "I'm Eris, and... I don't think we got a proper introduction, no..." Of course, she'd been so busy, as had everyone else, that it was hard to introduce oneself to others. "I can't quite remember who you're related to, though..." It was someone, she knew it was someone else in the pride... It was just a matter of remembering who.Athena couldn't help but chuckle a little at her daughter. Ever so eager... She wasn't sure which side of the family she got it from - Either it came from Eris' father, or it came from Athena's mysterious relatives. Of course, the ones she'd met herself seemed little eager to meet and greet. She watched the male lion for a moment, before blurting an observation. "You're not used to the sand yet, either, are you?" Her eyes were on his paws and the way he moved. Though she didn't know it, her heritage should have made it possible for her to walk on sand. But she'd never particularly done so in her youth, so never really learned to. Now she was living on a beach. "I'm Athena, by the way..."

He was embarrassed by his daughter and the way she had conducted herself in this pride, thus when Eris asked her question he couldn't help but hesitate. His expression was unreadable but the pause probably gave it away. Alas, there was no point in hiding it and after a few moments he shook his head and replied. "I'm Neith's father." It was such a simple reply, but the mild drawl in his voice indicated that he would have preferred not to have been reminded of some of his daughter's more controversial actions - he may have been in the process of reversing them, but that didn't mean the pride were so forgiving at present.
"And Tambuzi's half brother though I am uncertain as to whether or not you are aware of him," he added as an after thought. Suffice to say that his claim to the 'throne' was much stronger than his daughter's, though he had no desire to throw it in the pride's face. No, his duties were very clear and that was to rebuild and lead the Bahari until they were ready to stand tall again.
However when he was confronted by Athena regarding his knack for walking on the shore he couldn't help but smile wryly and chuckle. "No, I'm not," he replied and released a sigh. "Suffice to say they do not have sand in the mountains," he explained and rolled his shoulders in a loose shrug. "I'm not accustomed to ground that shifts beneath my paws."

Eris could hear the distaste in his voice(Was it distaste she heard...?) at the mention of relations. She'd seen little of Neith, really, since they'd washed up in the pride's lands, and she couldn't help being impressed by how much the lioness HAD accomplished in her time there. After all, now the healers had someone to help them, and there were lions to build things... "I think I've heard of Tambuzi... Wasn't he a prior leader...?" She'd listened to some of the story-tellers talk about the pride's histories, which had proven very enlightening for this new home they'd found. To refer to himself as Tambuzi's half-brother, that made him legitimate in Eris' eyes as a ruler. He was from the mountains? Then they'd have to have gone a LONG way to find this guy. To say the least, Athena was impressed. She shifted her own paws, toes digging into the sand. "You aren't the only one... The Bhanu'Ecchumati may be near the sea, too... But I never went on the beach." She paused. "Except to show it to Eris... Then the wave came..." She looked at the water warily, tail curling under her. The sea made her nervous, but she also felt no desire to go out wandering. Why wander away from her daughter, after all? Plus... This was a new opportunity to form better relationships than the Bhanu had encouraged. Theirs was a way of cruelty, violence, while the Bahari way was much calmer. In her observations, Athena had determined that calm was good. It was nice, it was peaceful, and it was something she could get used to... So long as swimming wasn't involved.

[[Major apologies for the delay my RL business got the best of me. >.< ]]
"Prior to the tsunami, I believe that he was," Ram agreed softly. There was a hint of something in his voice but his features didn't change. His half-brother's supposed death had affected him but now was not the time or place to grieve. He had work to do, a pride to rebuild systematically and logically as opposed to tossing aside every tradition they had lived with for decades. His daughter, though he loved her, appeared to have forgotten that when she removed the necessity for some of the rites.
"Regrettably the pride has had a rather chaotic few years after the tsunami and sadly has been forced to undergo another leadership change," he continued, though he made no attempts to explain precisely why he had usurped his daughter's position - suffice to say there was more to it than simply removing some of the traditions from the pride. "But I will not permit my brother's pride to fall to weakness, there are ways to be passive and strong," he murmured.
Nevertheless he soon smiled to Athena, appreciating that she could relate to his difficulties on the sand. Alas, he didn't have the same fear of the water as she did and this was proven as the waves occasionally licked at his paws as they touched upon the shoreline. "I am rather partial to it now that I have seen it," he confessed and shook his head. "Though I have yet to dive properly, that is something I will need to arrange."

Athena glanced at the waves, watching them lap, before edging away. She still didn't like them, not after the tsunami. If it hadn't happened, she might have been more receptive, but not anymore. She turned her attention to Ram's explanations about the pride, ears shifting toward him. "I hope things settle down for the pride... It sounds like every time there's a change, things get volatile..." Eris had certainly babbled at her enough about that sort of thing after learning the histories of the pride. If they'd kept the leader from... Two leaders ago, how would things be going now? Her gaze then returned to the waves, mind rolling as the water did.Unlike her mother, Eris voiced such a question. "Do you think things would have been different, if the pride still had the same leader? Or if it had gone a lot more smoothly...?" Her eyes turned to the sea, watching the waves crash on the shore. "Maybe the sea's just been unhappy with the leadership and that's why it keeps going bad..." She hoped that this would finally be IT, that the sea wouldn't get angry at them. She shifted on her paws, putting them so they were getting washed over. As terrifying as the tsunami had been, she still found the water soothing and calming. It was nice, to say the least. She liked it, and felt she could safely swim in it.

"I suspect that the Bahari'mtoto would be as isolated as always if my half brother were still in charge," Ram replied vaguely, refraining from providing the lionesses with too much insight into his aims for the pride. He had appreciated some of what his daughter had done, but other things had been inappropriate. What the pride suffered from at the moment was weakness and it wasn't just through numbers, but heart as well. There was no willpower, no determination and more importantly...there was no sense of pride.
Somewhere this inner strength had been lost and he could only surmise that after the tsunami that confidence had evaporated just as the remaining water had on the shore.
He intended to bring it back.
"But if there is one thing I will promise is that I will aim for stability, my duty isn't to enrage the sea and I fully intend to offer my gratitude for it when the time is right," he continued and cleared his throat. "For now though, all I can offer it is a solemn oath that I will bring this pride to its form glory... Without bringing it into disrepute." He paused for a time and glanced at both Athena and Eris.
"The pride doesn't need a war, nor does it need another tragedy, but it does need to show its worth to the world... If that makes any sense."

Athena gave a snort. "Isolation never did anybody any good." She inclined her head. "I heard stories about a pride in a jungle to the west... They were so isolated, they didn't let anybody join, and the only breeding going on was between two lions and their direct offspring... Not together, mind you, they weren't THAT bad... But the pride fell apart, because their queen wouldn't let anybody join." The dark lioness shook her head. "Foolish of them, really... I wonder what ever happened to the lions from that pride, and where they went..." Scattered to the four winds, likely. She eyed her mother for a moment, before smiling at Ram. "I like the changes, really. Change is a good thing, and everybody needs to do it at some point to adapt." She motioned with a paw. "The sea changes, doesn't it? The land changes. So why shouldn't we? It may be hard or painful, but it works out in the end." She stretched a bit, still smiling. "I think everything happens for a reason, really... Or I'm starting to..." She looked at the sky, then heard a call. "Oh! I was gathering something for someone! I'm sorry, I should get going!" She gave a bow. "It was nice talking to you, Ram!" The red lioness hurried off, leaving her mother alone with the current ruler.Athena shifted on her paws. "Well..." She looked around, then back at Ram. "Awkward silence time, isn't it?"

Andranis Slap me if I take too long to respond, Sept since last tag is ridiculous. /flail We can finish this up so you can get 'em both certed. n_n "I wouldn't call it awkward," Ram mused with a wry smile as he glanced after Athena's daughter. "So much as two lions making introductions for the first time, with very little to discuss based on the newness of their circumstances," he clarified and lifted a brow. He was never one to mince words or speak half-truths. He knew everything was new to him and as such he had little to talk about, on that similar note, she was most likely in a similar position.
"At least we didn't talk about the weather?" he offered with a small chuckle and shook his head. "Your daughter has a very good attitude, you've raised her well. I look forward to seeing what she achieves, and I hope that you settle comfortably as well," he continued before motioning behind Athena. He looked apologetic, but as he was still making his rounds he couldn't stay for any more than was necessary.
"However I must apologise, I'm still trying to introduce myself to each pride member and there are quite a few still left to go," he confessed. "It has been a pleasure to meet you, but I must run after yet another lion I don't recognise," he murmured. "If you have need of me in the future, I will be at your disposal..."

The black lioness gave a bow of her head, unable to keep from smiling. "Of course, I made sure my children that stayed with me instead of their father grew up well-mannered." After her time around Thona and his gang.. She didn't want her children to be like that. She just hoped that the ones who stayed with their father had come out just as well-mannered. "You have a good day, Ram."The red lioness waved with a smile as the male left, then turned to her mother. "I think he was rather nice, don't you?" She was LOVING the Bahari'mtoto!
