User ImageMagpie dipped into the cave, some said Leo had spent most of his day. She knew he had been collecting but this would be the first she had dipped in to seek out his cave. It had been quite a time since she had spoken to him last. Curious, she looked inside of his cave and hummed. "Leo?" She called him by his foreign nickname she gave him. Everyone else tended to stick to 'Renaissance' or Lewenharto. Both to big for her mouth to wrap around.
In a personal matter really. Flicking her tail she hummed a little and walked in without being accepted into the cave. Glancing at the drawings and the collection of things she knew now. But before were very rare for her to see. Somewhere in Magpie's mind a memory of her homeland came to mind but she shook it off.

Maybe Leo was the one to talk to about that kind of stuff. The past. Where she was from. She was different then a lot of the gypsies. Though she could take on any gamble to get what she wanted to either sell or keep herself. Or even haggle anything to the lowest amount. She was intimidating yet. Kind. In her own way.

If he came out of a wall or formed by just being himself. Magpie wouldn't startle but just stare at the pieces upon the wall. Tilting her head for a moment. Left and right. Intrigued.

User Image His den was a hodgepodge of what he considered to be art, valuable trinkets, and little dissected animals pinned down with thorns. It was organized chaos, both a nightmare and a dream. An assortment of berries set out on bowls seated in carved hollows in a chunk of driftwood. Blues, purples, reds, and blacks. He was working on greens but without an easy yellow dye accessible it wasn't easy. His pictures were mostly studies of the little animals he'd pulled apart or of fellow pride members. From little features like the eyes and claws to larger doodles of them, it was obvious he'd been watching the pride like a hawk.

He'd just returned from a small collection run. Unfortunately, there were no yellow berries to be had but he'd found a lovely specimen of what looked like a shriveled zebra-creature laying in the sand. At least the day wasn't a total loss. As he entered his den his eyes went wide. Oh.... seems his charming captor had been coming calling for him.

Silent as a shadow, he slipped up beside her and tilted his head to one side. "Ah yes... that was a bird I saw flying overhead. It reminded me of you- funny. She'd just plucked some trinkets from here. Remind you of anyone?"

Looking up at it she smiled a little. "I know a magpie bird when I see one. But until she ties a lion to her, she's not me." She smiled as she had felt the warmth of the male against her thick fur. She looked at him for a moment and saw the rest of the cave. "It smells pretty funky in here.. Do you think about that?" Looking at the dead bodies pinned to things and she gave him a glance. "I can see where all the flies have gone." She teased him and chuckled.

She then smiled moreso and shook her head. "I like the bird idea of me more then what you drew me like." She glanced at the picture of herself. It was one of the first. Her eyebrow cocking. "Do you really picture me so angry and breathing fire? Not that..That wouldn't be fun or anything. And.. Am I really that fat?" She looked down at her belly. Magpie was a smaller lioness, though not much under the average height. One would say a 'well lined specimen'. With northerner-thick forelimbs. A sturdy tail and a good set of darker back legs.

"Anyhow the.. art that you made is fascinating in the least." She complimented him and glanced at him. She was the true shadow in the cave. His forelimbs where sparkling even in the cave's dim light. A dazzle that was attractive to the merchant's eye.

Leo glanced to the drawing he had of Magpie and chuckled. Oh that.

"This is actually part of a series. The mind's perception. Our minds are funny things you know, and speaking to the members here has only intrigued me more. Take this corpse here-", He motioned to one of his specimens. "You see just... a mess. I see something quite fascinating. See how that muscle connects to that bone there? And this fiber- all of these parts must be working together at the same time to give this animal the ability to walk. Now birds- birds are fascinating. Their bones are hollow! They're lighter, they have huge chests compared to their body size, and their wings have a lot of the same joints as our forelimbs do!"

He cleared his throat. "Two very different minds can look at the same thing and come to distinctly different conclusions. The second part of that painting will be the reality of the situation, and the third what might be precieved by those within the pride. It's... an attempt to mediate all this tension going on. Some say muse, some say insanity, but they're looking at the same thing."

Magpie flicked her ear calmly as she listened. Thinking of how minds are funny and the members.. Well their minds were entirely cooky that's for sure. Moving with him to seek out the specimen he was talking about. When he talked about fibers and the bones she tilted her head.
"Hollow, huh? That's an interesting feat. I haven't been one to hunt for the birds.. So I gather I never knew. It would make sense on how they can fly. Our bodies are so heavy."

When he used the 'conversation' about the insanity she kind of looked behind her at the entrance as she didn't want to be overheard about it. Magpie's little issues. She was viewed as pretty 'off-hilter' a little mad herself. However the insanity that had hit had left many of the lions odd. And she wished no ill-feelings towards those who just needed help. "I suppose you're right. However no one is the same with how they think. Sure. Others will think alike. But as you said. We will see two different things due to the fact we are different." Her dull grey eyes looked at him calmly. There was another side to this lioness. An almost balanced-side it seemed. Merchantry had made her quirky. But at times others would rather that side of her.

She sat upon her rump when her mind settled from the boggling. "You tire me out Leo." She admitted and then grinned. "Makes me think.. Think about my home before the troupe..."

"You flatter me by assuming I could actually hunt birds." He laughed lightly. "No, this poor fellow was dead when I found him. Fresh- I think he contracted an infection and just never pulled through. So rather than let him go to waste, I brought him back for a little research. It does help to know the body a bit. For a crafter, an alchemist, even a huntress could use this information." He caught himself babbling once more and cleared his throat.

Turning back to her he smiled and tilted his head. "Oh this sounds like it comes with a story. Do tell me of your homeland. It would be nice to hear you babble on for once."

She grinned a little. "Well.. I am assuming things a lot lately." Magpie's eyes lowered thinking of home.
Stifling lightly she shook her head. "It was a pride to the sharp north. We were all warriors, we were born and raised to fight." She closed her eyes. "And when we fought we were only loyal to one being. Our Queen, we called her The Mutter." Magpie shook her head a little. She couldn't believe she'd actually say this to anyone.
"When a male won in the games he could court the Mutter and hold a batch of cubs. My brother was the winner of the last. But he didn't want to court. He only won because I was only an adolescent, which is the age of conscent, but it was for my stubbornness. I never fell for another, and I didn't want to be just bred off to a brute who was short a mind. As I am sure you know I am all for the mind." She lowered her ears. "The queen gave him an ultimatum, I never found out what it was. But he killed the queen in front of the brute who wanted my cubs.. And fled, then they banned me from my pride. I was called an exile." She hummed a little. "I had to change my name.. To make sure the brute that saw it happen didn't come after me.. He threatened my life the next he heard about me.." She rocked a little bit.

"My name is actually Fiedel... It means faithful."

Leo listened in complete silence, his eyes thoughtful. There were so many prides out there with strange customs and strange ways. Hers was not among the more odd ones, nor was it especially more brutal than others that he'd heard of, but it was still a difficult background to come from. He smiled tightly and shook his head.

"Some of the best stories that remain alive with us today begin with strife, Magpie. I believe in time, yours will be counted among them. This pride here..." He sighed deeply. "I cannot agree with everything. But they do hold to traditions and their past. They believe in the lessons there. That is admirable enough."

He looked back, shocked that she would reveal her true name to him. It was the first time anyone within the pride had done so. Sadly, his true name was out in the open. He'd come in as a prince. A lowly captive.

"Fiedel. It suits you."

Magpie let her ears droop a little. Some of her stresses of the male finding her rose in her chest but then she calmed down. "Somedays I feel more like Fiedel then I do Magpie." She admitted. "But I will always be a Magpie." Lowering her head she'd look in a small puddle he'd have in his cave. She glanced at her reflection. Her patterns of blue rushed and turned like the birds' plumage. The shock of white coursed around her shoulders in a shock.

No she wouldn't always be a magpie. She was The Magpie. "I don't agree on everything myself. I came here as an outsider too.. Riddlemouth wanted me as his Head Merchant. I already had a knack for trading." She'd grin and then look on to Lewenharto.

"But thank you.. It enlightens me I can still be myself in the eyes of another in this pride."
