It had only been a day since yesterday.
But it felt like an agonizing and tortured lifetime.
Oh, being a teen.
Hel still wasn’t taking this well at all.
Today did start a harder and more rigorous training session though…and after that? A trip to the grocery store. The ghoul now sat at the end of a dock on a lake, since she couldn’t stand being at the dorms right now. Next to her lie three empty containers of black cherry eye scream, and in her hands was a large bag of potato chips she was currently munching on, looking utterly miserable.

Mac, on the other hand, was having an amazing day. He had taken his new boat - ONE THAT IS CURRENTLY GETTING A NAME ICLY SO I'LL EDIT THAT IN HERE LATER - out onto the water again, working until his muscles ached and his need to be out on the water was satisfied. As he approached the dock again, he realized there was someone sitting there; the closer he got, the more he recognized that someone.
Even from out on the water, he knew something was wrong.
"HEEEEEEY, OREO!" He called out, nestling his staff-oar into the crook of his arm to cup his hands around his mouth, trying to project his voice to her. "YOU LOOK LIKE YOU WERE HIT BY A BRICK TRUCK! WHAT'S WRONG?" Now, even as he yelled, he started to row again to get closer to the ghoul and the dock, grinning away.

Hel’s brows furrowed. What a** hole was yelling at her? He was obviously cruisin’ for a brusin’ interrupting her time alo—
Oh.
The ghoul looked up, hand scraping the bottom of the potato chip bag as she squinted out at the figure on the boat. Well, only one being called her Oreo so far, and second that voice was unmistakable. So was that grin. It made her want to punch his face in, so of course it could only belong to Mac. But now the question was…what as Mac doing on a boat and where was T-Pain? Hel didn’t wave, and her shoulders just slumped.
She seemed to debate if she wanted to yell or not, and then decided she might as well.
“YOU WERE RIGHT.”

"I'M RIGHT ABOUT A LOT OF THINGS!" He yelled back, though his tone lessened as he got closer, right up until he was about a staff-oar's length away from the dock. "What about this time?" Despite his asking, he could see something was a little more than totally wrong, now that he noticed the eye scream, the bag of chips...the way she looked miserable. The more he noticed these things, the more his grin faded, the more his dark eyes shone with concern.
"...Hey...What's wrong?" He pushed the boat closer slowly, bringing it right up against the dock with his own hands, staring up at the ghoul to try and figure it out on his own.

The reaper at least had enough sense to roll her eyes at the ‘right about a lot of things’ part, and she waited to speak until Mac drew closer. Her expression was dismayed as her potato chip bag was no empty, and the ghoul squinted her eyes again as she stared into it and shook it as if that would magically make another chip appear. With another sigh, Hel collected the tubs together, stacked them, and then tossed the bag into one, stuffing the trash into her shoulder bag. It was then she finally turned her attention back to Mac, no grins or smiles coming to her lips.
“You were right.” She muttered. “We clashed too much. He…made me sad being him…and I…made him upset being me…and the last fight…it was the straw that broke the mini’s back yesterday.” She sighed again, idly brushing her oily fingers on her apron.

Mac just stared at her as she tidied up her mess, waiting impatiently for her to answer him. But just as it seemed she wasn't going to, and just when he was about to tell her to answer the jack damned question, she muttered something.
He was right. Okay, but---oh. Oh.
Suddenly, everything made sense. The way she was sitting, the way she looked, the 'comfort' foods around her. She only needed to say the first four words for him to get it, and when he did he didn't hesitate to pull himself out of the boat, hoisting his weight onto the dock. His boat bobbed and creaked in protest, and once he was out it threatened to float away; but the Reaper didn't seem to care. Mac sat on the dock, opening his arms to her.
"I'm sorry, Hel." For once, he really didn't want to be right.

Hel’s gaze had drifted away from the other reaper after she said what she did, onto the surface of the lake where the rocking of Mac’s boat caused ripples to appear. Her gaze shifted back over to him as he settled near her and spoke. The reaper blinked. First, she was hearing Mac genuinely say he was sorry. Second, he was opening his arms out to her for a hug. It was the first time he had done that.
She wasn’t going to turn away any kind of affection. She was Hel after all. “…Thank you…” She replied honestly “…I am sorry, too.” Sorry about what? Who knew. The reaper leaned into him, her arms immediately moving to wrap around his torso tightly. “Mac.” She murmured. “I want to be anyone else but me right now…you ever felt like that?”

"Don't be sorry, that's dumb." Mac chuckled despite the situation, wrapping his arms around her as she leaned in, letting her hold him as tightly as she needed to. As she spoke he rested his head on her chin, his eyes downcast. "Yeah...a lot more than I care to admit." He started to pat her back, rubbing his hands along her back as if trying to warm her up; really, he was trying to make her feel better.
"But...don't listen to it, Hel. I don't. You shouldn't want to be anyone else." He was often the cause of great pain, and there was often he wished he was someone better suited, but in the end...he was who he was, and everyone knew that. If they didn't want to be around him, they wouldn't.

“I ‘unno…” Her voice was a bit muffled against his jacket. “Think things might have been better if I said it more often.” Another heavy sigh.
She wasn’t letting go anytime soon as her fingers dug into the material of his jacket. It was warm in this embrace, and a little less lonely feeling. “If I was someone else though, I would have him.” The reaper paused. “What if no one ever…”
Wants me.
She didn’t finish the statement out loud and sighed again. “What is done is done, though.” Hel muttered, sighing again before she tried to move from it. “But hey…ya know…I am a free ghoul again I can…I can do whatever the Jack I want now…!” She tried to sound in good spirits about this.
It didn’t work.

"Why are you so keen on settling?" Mac couldn't resist asking as he suffered through her words. Hel was one of the strongest scarelings he had ever met, and there she was, being a...well, a ghoul. A baby one. A prissy baby one. "What if no one ever what?" He inquired, really not sure where she was going with that one. There was so many answers to that!
"Hah, yeah, I guess you can~ What's first on the agenda, then?" He hadn't let her go. His arms remained around her, his chin on her head when he wasn't talking; if she wanted out of this embrace, she'd have to make the first move.

“Why are you so keen on not?” Was the muffled shot back. “Ah…nevermind. Do not answer that. I know how you feel about it. Forget it.”
“Uh…” Hel still didn’t seem to be letting go of him anytime soon, content to keep talking against the collar of his jacket for the time being. What was first on the agenda? Getting another tub of Jack damn cherry eye scream…but she had half a mind to guess Mac would mock her for that so…”Training.” She replied. “Lots more training.”

"Good." Well, so long as she knew his stance there was no point in pushing the issue! As it stood, there was little else to say on the subject, merely content with holding her until she felt good enough to move.
Somehow, her answer didn't surprise him.
"Kaaay...but...that won't help your mind." He pinched her side, though lightly once he realized who was on him, and what condition they were in. One of the things he had no real experience in was trying to soothe the mind of a broken down ghoul; usually when the going got tough, he got going. But Hel was different; he wasn't the one breaking up with or avoiding her, and he wasn't the one at the root of her problem either. It was weird for him, very weird, and he wasn't sure what to do.
"Hey, yanno what would do you some good? A change of scenery. Wanna go to my Aunt's house for a bit?" It wasn't...too far from here, really. He could always boat over, too.

“Ah, but see, I beg to differ. Exercise is great for helping to clear and soothe the mind.” Hel started a bit under the unexpected pinch to her side, and retaliation was swift. A light swat to the back of his curly mop. “Ya. I do like changes of scenery.” She agreed, pausing as he brought up his aunt’s house. It was then Hel pulled away, only a little bit though, so that she could raise a brow at him. “…I did not know you had an aunt…in town…?”
A change of scenery though? Yeah. Anywhere but the dorms right now. Anywhere but there. “Uh…would that be acceptable to just…drop in on such short notice…?” Usually whenever she was going home…they knew uh…weeks in advanced.

The swat to the back of his head only made him laugh, but he knew better than to retaliate right now. It was good to know that the Hel he knew was still buried in there somewhere! That was at least a good sign; she hadn't changed herself that much, yet.
"Well it's not...that in town. But we can get there from here~" He gestured to the lake, though his boat was bobbing freely a few feet away. As for whether or not it would be okay, he merely shrugged. "They won't be there for long anyway, they're leaving to go to Los Muertes for the week~ Their anniversary or something. Saide's staying with her friends." Because their Mother really didn't want to look after her for a week, and Saide didn't want to be there anyway; in her little black eyes, Aunt Dree with her Mother, and their real parent was a stranger.
"They won't mind, s'long as we don't wreck the place soooo...keep that temper in check, yeah?" He teased, lightly headbutting her.

“Ah…I see.” Hel looked back out at the lake, and glanced at Mac’s boat, and then took a moment to think about it. It really didn’t take that long to reason out. It would just be nice to get away from Amity and the dorms for even just a night. It felt a lot less stressful than laying in her bed alone tonight and tossing and turning from the ache of a split up. She looked back at the reaper as he teased her, her lips quirking as he head butted her lightly. She reached up with a dark hand to pat his cheek affectionately. “Just do not give me a reason to fly off the handle then, ya?”
Hel paused. “…This sounds…wonderful. I…I would like that very much.” Did she need to go get some stuff for an overnight? Or…whatever.
