JOINING

One doesn't usually join the Burkuteshti or Qyrhyeshti so much as happen upon them, and most who do happen upon them have the good sense not to get involved in a neverending war. However, some do occasionally find themselves lost in the desert, injured, or otherwise in need of aid, which the Burkut or Qyrhy will happily provide. But in a land where resources are scarce and bitterly fought over, assistance comes with strings attached.

While either faction will take in and care for outsiders in need of help, those outsiders are not free to leave as soon as they recover. They become Borclu, gray-area members who owe the pride a debt for saving their life, and they must repay it before being allowed to leave - or to stay as a full member, if they choose.

The most common way for a Borclu to earn their freedom is through victory in battle. Borclu are welcome - and encouraged - to join patrols and participate in battles. They are not encouraged to venture off on their own in search of fights; even if they were to find one and win, there would be no witnesses to the victory, and therefore no proof.

For a Borclu to become a full member of the pride (or to be allowed to leave it), they must either: participate in a group fight/skirmish/etc. in which their faction is victorious, and in which the Borclu won their individual fight; somehow save the life of a full member of their faction; or do some other great act of service to their faction.

Once a Borclu earns their freedom, they are free to leave, or - if they're a lion - stay with their faction as a full member.

Personality: Fiesty and competitive, used to take on fights that could be a bit too much for her.
History: Jee has always enjoyed being a thorn in everyone's side, teasing and picking fights, and usually winning them. At some point, she picked a fight on a god disguised as a mortal (hi Dath); as such, she nearly lost her life just trying to run away from him. The constant running and fear drove her into the desert, where she had zero experience to keep herself alive. She grew weak from being lost and thirsty, and was taken in by the Burk.
IC Circumstances: Weak and lost, she would need help gaining her strength back and learning how one even lives in a place like this; if she ever is able to earn her freedom, she wants to stay, feeling that this place is (oddly) safer than ever coming across that god again.

His parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, grandparents... None to be found. Lost in the world, Akbar left to find a new place to call home.
IC Circumstances: After wandering some time, Akbar encountered another lion who'd been ousted from his own pride. While he'd paled around with the other lion, things eventually turned sour as their personalities just didn't mesh up as 'friend material'... And then it became VERY sour, as the other lion was much older and stronger than Akbar. He was left to wander the desert alone, before he collapsed at the Burkuteshti border, barely hanging on between thirst, hunger, and injuries.

Personality: Named after an innocent flame, Shula is the opposite of such a silly thing. Serious in nature, she takes the strength necessary to be in such a pride to heart in an ambitious way. When there are males around she has her guard up, no matter which side of the pride they are on. To her, they are all dangerous. While she doesn't go looking for a fight, she will not back down from a challenge and will not allow another to do the same either. In fact she takes her gender as a disadvantage that she must overcompensate for. While she wishes she could be a male, she would never try to mate with another female, she doesn't even keep female friends. It bothers her that she is expected to have cubs and one or more of them may be female. She is devout, and takes orders very well.
History: Raised in the pride, she takes the fact that everyone is both a warrior and a hunter very seriously. Her mother was killed first in battle, then out of grief, her father lost a battle (from what the rumors say) on purpose. This will not be her. Teaching her emotions are mostly a weakness. The bey became her father, figuratively, and his instruction brought her a sense of comfort, instilling her dedication to him. Ever since then, she strived for his approval.

Approved! The Bey wouldn't have involved himself in raising/teaching her (that would be the Buyuks job, though they would certainly have had at least some interaction, as it's hardly a large pride), but it would be fine if she idolized and made him into a figurative father figure regardless There also hasn't been much fighting at all since the last big battle for Baj-Jer, which was when the last Bey (Shan) died. So, depending on the timeline you want for her, it's likely that either her parents would have died in fights prior to the one for Baj-Jer, and the Bey she idolized was Shan; or her mother died at Baj-Jer and her father after, and it's Kotu she idolizes.
