Today was the day! Mirei was going to tell him. Some of her friends had told her that she would regret it if she never told the one she liked that she liked him. Sure, he was a bit older than her, but it made it that much easier to crush on him too. She was thankful that her coat was so dark - she was so nervous and excited, she was flushed.
Knowing that Minali would want all the details later, she did her best to think about what she was feeling. The rush of fear and excitement. How her silver eyes kept jumping at every lion that was walking by. He would have to show up soon. That mane of his was undeniably his, and she would approach him carefully. Cutely. And hopefully not trip on her paws before she reached him.
She had to do this! Her whole body was vibrating with anticipation.

Vipapae was unaware of any excitement around him, he wasn't feeling particularly cheerful today. He'd tried to visit with some of his family but whether he found some cheery or grumpy, it was always tiring. There were so many of them and if you found the right one at the right time, you could easily be swarmed.
Having just escaped before that happened, he was decidedly taking a walk. He wasn't exactly oblivious to his surroundings but there were so many lions around the pride, unless you were doing something very odd, you didn't really stand out. Even his mane wouldn't stand out unless you were looking for it.
Humming quietly, he headed for the waterhole.

Ooohhh. He. He didn't look that happy. She debated on aborting the plan for today, but part of her wondered that if she told him, it might make him feel better. Wouldn't it? Mirei would only be thrilled if he liked her back!
She wondered if he was even aware of her. She had just recently gone on her first group hunting expedition, but she didn't stand out much. Beyond the large gold stripe along her back, it was easy for her to disappear into the crowd of the Pridelands. Mirei wondered if that would help her, or hurt her...
Instead, she decided to follow him for a few paces to make sure that he was indeed going the normal path to the watering hole. She slowly upped her speed to catch up to him, her own eyes glancing towards the watering hole. She was hoping to catch up to him, side by side. But at least the watering hole was more private than other areas in the Pridelands.

Walking along, he began trying to plan the rest of his day but he wasn't sure what he was going to do. He had already checked on hunting parties today but maybe he would check again, but the obvious way to find out was to visit grandma and that could be chaotic. But maybe that would be OK, cubs were fun most of the time. And there were only three of them.
Very suddenly, he stopped humming and walking, squinting out across the distance before him. The blue common in his family never stopped catching his attention, he always seemed to be watching out for Lilo but he had no idea where she had ended up. It was just his uncle and some cousins. He hesitated a moment, watching them and trying to determine if they were just leaving or just arriving at the waterhole.

Mirei was doing her best to be watching him, but not act like she was following him. That would be bad. He suddenly slowed to a stop, and Mirei started to panic. She kept walking, finally catching up to his side (oh gosh her stomach flipped!) and took a couple steps past him. She turned to face him, doing her best to not lose her nerve in talking to him. A few words exchange here and there didn't really count - she had never tried talking to him this way. Would it be weird to say his name? She was good with names, and social enough to know a decent amount of the hunting part of the pride...
"Are you ok?" she finally said, so thankful that her voice didn't crack, even if it was a little shaky.

He almost didn't see her, watching his cousins go along-- but then she spoke and he looked down, almost jumping back when he realized how close she was before him. That had never happened before, was he really that distracted today?
"I'm fine," he said, looking startled-- and then he realized he probably shouldn't be so rude, so he put on a small, awkward smile, "Sorry. Did I get in your way?"

She didn't mean to startle him, and it made her own heart suddenly beat faster. Was she unwanted? Was she not where she was supposed to be? Was she just reading into this too much? Sigh, probably.
"Oh, no! Never...." Her words flustered off at the end, and her eyes shot straight to the ground. Stupid, stupid. If she was trying to act normal she wouldn't be doing that.
"I was just," she paused for a moment to look more at him than at her own toes. "I was on my way to the watering hole! I saw you stop, so I just figured I'd ask..." Hopefully he was still going there. Hopefully he didn't get distracted by whatever made him stop walking.

Considering his distraction was wondering if some family members were going to cross his path on the way to or at the waterhole, he happily let it flee his mind. He was more concerned with being rude now. But he was relieved to hear he didn't stumble into someone's way when he was distracted.
Was she acting funny or was he still out of it??
"That's where I'm headed, I just thought I saw someone I knew there," he explained, still smiling sheepishly.

His smile was so.....he was smiling at her! Oh, Mirei had to remember this moment, and try to describe it to Minali later!
"Oh, really? D-did you want to walk the rest of the way there together?" It wasn't a whole lot further, and she figured that he'd have to say yes. He always seemed so nice. And walking didn't imply anything....but it was just too exciting for her to not try and ask. Inside, she was wanting to flail around like a little cub, but she was doing her best to act like a cool, collected adolescent right now.

Since they were both heading to the same place, it didn't seem like such a strange question. It didn't matter who he had seen, really, and he wasn't actually doing anything specific except going to the watering hole.
"Sure," he agreed with a shrug, "I'm Vipapae, what's your name?"
No reason not to be polite, right? She looked vaguely familiar but .. he'd long decided he thought that about everybody in the pride. There were so many lions that it was hard to keep track of who you had and hadn't met before so everybody was a possible acquaintance.

She did her best to not look sad that he didn't know her name. She shouldn't have expected that. There were a lot of other pretty females around that might have caught his eye....but she was determined. Maybe that would show him.
"I'm Mirei," she said with a bright smile. "It is nice to formally meet you, Vipapae." Hopefully it wouldn't be....terribly awkward to confess your feelings to someone you really only just met-met, but...she'd save that for when they got to the watering hole.
She turned to continue walking towards the watering hole, assuming he'd start walking as well. "Did you think you saw family there?" Since...it was hard to avoid family at times.

"Same, Mirei," he said, repeating her name to try to commit it to memory- but he had a feeling it wouldn't be that easy. Too many M-names in his family, he still couldn't get Manuku and Marini's daughter's names straight. There were too many of them and they all started with M. Mfuo was easy, he was the boy.
"I did," he said, following along by her side, "I guess it shouldn't surprise me, though. My family is so big and a lot of them are even brighter than I am."

Mirei laughed. "I don't know, that purple mane of yours is pretty unique." Ah. Well. She really liked his mane, and she could have said more embarrassing things about it.
"Well, um, yeah." She stumbled, not really sure what to think of next. She felt silly, but she was soooo happy just being able to walk next to him towards the watering hole. She would be perfectly find going in silence, but she didn't think Vipapae would appreciate it.
"Um. Did you go on a hunt earlier?" Most awkward question ever! Stupid, stupid Mirei.

He glanced up at the purple fur that was hanging over his eyes when she commented on how unique it was .. and perhaps it was, but he wasn't the brightest member of the family. Great grandpa had explained the purple came from his mother, or looked like it did.. but he didn't see many around with it.
"I suppose so," he agreed, but paused when she stumbled over trying to continue the conversation- but she seemed to find something to say before he could come up with anything. Did she seem nervous?
"Nah, couldn't find any in need of help," he said, "I suppose I should try to get there earlier.."

Mirei just thought that Vipapae was....not perfect, but amazing in a lot of ways. It was so nice to be able to look into his pink eyes, and really get to see him. She felt stupid, and she knew that Minali was just going to tease her relentlessly about all the silly things she was thinking, but she couldn't help herself!
"Oh. I've only done two hunts myself so far. I'm...not that good, but hopefully Minali will go with my next time. She's getting good, and I hope she'll give me some tips on getting better." Talking about her friend really helped to calm her down, even if the anticipation rose as they kept getting closer and closer to the watering hole.
