Ok, let me start off by introducing myself, my names Ashley Brooks, a second year student at the University of Florida majoring in Mechanics and Aerospace Engineering.
The point of this thread, if you watch gundam, you realize that everything seems to be super high tech and hundreds of years into the future, hate to burst your bubble, its not, i estimate, its roughly 40-50 years from right now (give or take how the economy looks). My favorite thing to do is sit down with some paper, pencils and my text books and draw out an overview of how to build a gundam, yes, thats right, a full, real life gundam.
Most of the designing is a large collection of motors and hydrolics that are all ran from a central computer system.
Am i the only person in this guild that realizes that building a gundam is possible, all thats really needed is money and parts?
Post your opinion or talk about how awesome it would be to build your own gundam. whee

For viewing, you could put the cockpit right in the head and the pilot looks out basically a window, but thats VERY dangerous. Place the cockpit in the torso and have a large screen with a camera in the head (the eye on teh zaku) or place multiple screens and cameras for a 360 degree view. The cockpit would also have to have an air monitor that way the cockpit doesnt fill up with carbon monoxide or something and the pilot pass out, so air filters go without say...

Central Computer (o and btw, if there is something you wanna add or question, plz feel free)
A Computer where any and every possible movement and command are stored. basically, from the cockpit, the pilot presses the petal, that command goes to the computer and it sends it straight to the hip/feet motors and thus the MS walks. The largest problem someone would encounter is, what if the computer confuses two commands, how can you get it to do the correct one? I theorize that you could basically have some sort of mainframe where as instead of sending the command as 'left-control-stick-up' its 'JLU' this is that way, say you do 'petal' than 'left-control-stick-up' the computer wont get confused adn think you want the command 'petal left'. Also, program the computer to take the code and send it to the correct motor/belt.
