The male's feet were throbbing in pain as he forced ruts into the dirt at his feet. His constant pacing had finally begun to catch up with him, but he couldn't help it his nerves were simply on edge. He needed his mate, needed to here her voice, feel her caress, and know her thoughts. But she was gone for the day, against his protests she had gone out. Normally this wouldn't have been an issue but today he had it all planned out. It was supposed to be perfect, but a certain somebody had to ruin things. He smirked slightly thinking about her stubborn nature, he found it to be a cute trait of her's but given the current circumstance he wouldn't use cute.

Watching the sunset, he couldn't make out a single thing. All he could do was hope that she would return soon. The anxiety was building in his chest and he just couldn't take it anymore. Something needed to change, his life was becoming too dull. He had promised his mate a life of fulfillment. Something that wasn't happening right now, which is why, they really needed to talk.

Since the arrival of their unexpected and--from her viewpoint-- unwelcomed guest Nia'Siri popped up, Nefertari had tried to keep her distance from not only the cub but her mate as well. Today was certainly no different from any other day. Nefertari had wandered off from them early in the day to hunt and wander the lands far away from the two, and like usual returned. Admittedly she was returning later today then she had previously but she didn't seem to really notice. As she made her way to where her mate and his cub would be sleeping she couldn't help but smile faintly when she was close enough to smell his scent. While she was still very much upset with him she still loved him and through it all he was her mate. He was the only male she ever wanted to have a life with and hopefully one day she would present him with many cubs. In fact, right before Nia's arrival she had been hoping to start trying to have cubs with him. Nefertari sighed and rolled her eyes. Yes, the cub had ruined everything but at least it was just one they had to take care of and not whatever else he had created with that cheetah. Nefertari mentally sneered the word. It was purely her upbringing that had caused her to hate anything non-lion.

Just as she was about to head into their den she noticed her mate pacing a short distance away, obviously he wouldn't ever go far enough away that his cub would be unprotected or try to run off for fear that he had abandoned her. Even in Nefertari's hate she had a heart, and should Ulimi ever try to abandon it now that he had agreed to take responsibility for it she would tear a good chunk out of him. Although never enough to seriously alter him. Quietly she padded over to him, keeping a distance between them. "What are you doing over here? Did Nia run off?" Nefertari asked with a raised eyebrow even though she knew that the cub was in the den probably asleep by now. He probably realized she knew that as well. "Or are you waiting for someone?"

Ulimi's heart nearly skipped a beat when he could fully make out her silhouette heading in his direction. He was trying his damnedest to contain himself, and remain calm, cool, and collected but he was nervous out his mind! What if she rejected him? Never in his mind would he have thought that a possibility, but his mate had changed lately. Ever since he had taken in his young cub. Something about her made him feel distant from her. The looks he stole of her, showed hurt and betrayal, and her obvious 'hunting trips' were merely reasons for her to get away. She had more than enough reason to tell him no. He had baggage now, something he had eluded to in the beginning, but never dreamed to be true.

Heaving a sigh, the male quickly collected himself as his mate stepped forward. Immediately he noticed the distance between them. His heart ached to close it, but his mind knew this meant she wanted her space. He could only hope she would choose to close it herself.

"No, no she's been asleep for quite some time. Poor little thing tuckered herself out early today. She's trying to learn her battle stances - AT HER AGE!" He smiled with pride, giggling at the images fresh in his memories. But the look on Nefertari's face quickly pulled him out of his pride.

"Actually, I was out here waiting for someone, but I don't see the point anymore. As she's already arrives." He purred happily, allowing his tail to flit back and forth in reaction. "I actually wanted to talk to you about something, are you open to that? I know lately you've been distant..." Ulimi lost track of his words, and simply let them die in his throat. He didn't need her to become angry or offended with him over this.

"I-I've missed you." He purred, digging his paws into the dirt to prevent himself from breaking the distance she had created.

Nefertari saw the hurt this whole thing had caused him as well and she desperately wanted everything to go back to the way it was before Nia had come along, however, the fact was that she was here now. An eyesore, though admittedly one Nefertari found herself able to tolerate more then she ever thought she could. Of course on the outside it probably didn't look that way. Then again, the cub was still with them and not to mention that but in one piece. Ulimi had most to do with that but it was true. When he mentioned Nia practicing the basic of battle she found herself a bit surprised, which showed through her raising an eyebrow once more, but at the same time curious. Nia was turning out to be a bit more and more tolerable every day. Well, maybe not every day. "Surprising indeed. I suppose she needs to learn how to fight earlier then most anyways because of what she is." She responded. Nefertari wasn't intending her statement to be anything more then what it was. The fact that the cub was a hybrid meant that there would be many who would try to use her or kill her. At this point Nefertari wasn't sure if Ulimi really understood that hybrids were not exactly a celebration.

Then Nefertari could help but jerk herself a little when he purred--thinking for a moment that he was actually growling at her for something she had done--but then once she realized it was a show of affection her heart caved a little. She did not step forward but she returned the purr, though a very quiet one. "I've missed you too." Nefertari admitted. Her distain for Nia was clear as well as the fact that her mate had been with a female that wasn't a lion--which was her whole reasoning for being mad at him and hating Nia. Nefertari quickly allowed a show of affection in her eyes before quickly hiding it once more. Ulimi should know by now that she loved him more then anything, right? "What is it you wanted to talk about?" Nefertari asked with a low growl that wasn't meant to be taken other then a slight annoyance with the whole thing. Inside, however, she was happy to be able to talk to him but also slightly afraid, afraid that because of the way she had been acting that he would leave. She didn't want that even though she acted at times she did.

The tone and expression in his mate's voice cut him to the core. He knew she was just being honest, but he couldn't help but feel a little hurt at her bluntness. He was also not blind to the fact that her recent disappearances were a result of Nia's presence. He had hoped she would outgrow her dislike for his child, but it seemed he was silently asking for too much. "Yeah, she does. But to think she's taking an interest so early on. I feared I would have to force her into it." He paused, pawing at the dirt at his feet. "She does it to impress you. You know that right? She talks highly of you, and each day I see a few more of your mannerisms in her. She doesn't get to see you much, but when she does - you - you make a big impact Nefertari." He sighed heavily, giving into the hurt he felt. "I know you don't care for her, I just thought you'd like to know."

Ulimi offered up a small smile, when he noticed the look in her eyes. But it faded nearly as quickly as her's did.

"I wanted to talk to you about something important. But I want you to have an open mind as I talk to you. You've been closed off lately and this isn't the time for that." He fussed, forcing a tougher tone into his voice to further state the point.

"I wanted to talk to you, about us." Ulimi frowned, feeling his heart beating wildly out of his chest. He had to stop and allow his nerves to calm, though he didn't realize just how bad of a moment he had chosen to do so.

It took a lot for Nefertari not to show how surprised she was that his cub wanted to be like her. It felt weird to her that anyone would look up to her but then again cubs tended to look up to the adults around them. Why her though? She let out a breath. While flattering as it was, Nefertari still wasn't completely okay with the situation or really the cub itself. What was she going to do now? Obviously if the cub wanted to be like her then Nefertari being gone a lot wasn't helping her at all. Then again, Nefertari didn't really want to be around her either. She was caught in a trap. Stick around more and eventually she would have no choice but to accept the cub which she was determined not to let happen, or even worse, that she would get fed up with the cub and throw it out which would mean Ulimi left too. Why wasn't there any easy path?

And then Ulimi's next words made her body freeze and her eyes widden in absolute shock and terror. Oh no, he's leaving me. That was her only thought at that moment. Ulimi wasn't very good with how he worded things which through time Nefertari had grown accustomed to the way he meant things when he worded them oddly in such situations like this one, however, Nefertari had already had doubts that he wanted to leave her because of the way she had been acting. Not to mention she had been trying to keep her distance so she was in all honesty out of practice. Her eyes welled up with tears but she fought them back. She needed to say something but what could she say? "You're leaving." Was all she could manage.

He could see the immediate reaction to his words in her eyes, and immediately he himself was thrown completely off guard. Was it something he had said? HE HADN'T SAID ANYTHING! Panic rose inside him, and his fur rose up on end. She was going into a panic and her next words only helped to solidify the assumption.

H-He was leaving? How the hell had she come up with that?! Was it what she really wanted? She hadn't said she was leaving - but that he was leaving... Taken aback, Ulimi began to pace once more unsure of exactly how to go about fixing this ridiculous error. "Where did you get that idea? Why would you even think that?" His pacing was getting worse, and his voice was getting higher, a heavy note of worry within in. "I said I wanted to talk about us! Us doesn't apply if one of us leaves!" He whined the words, trying to calm his pacing. "Why on Earth would that be the first place you go to? To think I would ever leave you - where else would I go?!" He laughed lightly, anxiety still high in his tone. "I love you Nefertari - and that's why I wanted to talk to you... But now I wonder if what I have to say will just frighten you even more." He frowned, now ignoring her personal space and invading right on into it. "I'm not going anywhere, and neither are you. I"ll chase you down, and you'll chase me - remember?" He purred, rubbing his nose lightly against her cheek. "And a deal is a deal." He smiled, patting her paw gently with his own.

Nefertari stood there showing a bit more shock now, most likely due to his own reaction. "You said I was being distant and that we needed to talk about us. How could I hear that and not think you were going to say it's over?" She asked, shouting a bit at him now because he really had worried her. She listened as he laughed over her reaction even though she realized it wasn't his usual laugh. Something was bothering him but since she had opened her mouth it was better if she answered his question now instead of later. "Maybe you'll run off with another girl, or maybe run back to that thing!" Nefertari exclaimed as she sat down, her paws angrily clawing into the dirt under them.

Her anger quickly faded when he began rubbing his nose against her cheek and told her he loved her. "So you're not leaving?" She asked even though they had clarified that wasn't what he had been trying to say. "Then what did you want to talk about?" A skeptic look danced it's way onto her features. "I love you too." Nefertari said a bit quietly but still loud enough for him to hear.

Ulimi attempted to let her comments roll of his back, but his nerves just weren't going to have it. He wasn't going to make it through this without a few scrapes, and he had accepted that, but for her to think he'd leave was far more painful than he ever could have imagined. "Of course i'm not leaving. Nefertari I have nowhere to go without you." He attempted a smile, hoping the friendly gesture would settle her nerves as well, of course he knew his hopes were probably a little high.

Her next question brought everything back to the surface, all the anxiety, everything. Ulimi took a deep breath, allowing himself to sit roughly on his haunches. By the way he sat it was pretty obvious he had something weighing heavily on his mind and spirit.

"I think its time, to start a family." His words were low, and close to inaudible but he had managed! He could immediately feel some of the weight release from his shoulders. Though he still flinched away from her, unsure of what her exact reaction would be.

Just as the lioness was about to open her mouth and tell him just what she thought about him in fact having other places he could be she heard him talk once more and what he said caused her eyes to widen slightly as she looked at him with a blank look. Did he just say he wanted to start a family? With her? After all of this? She wasn't sure if she should be overjoyed or continue to be in shock. "Y-You want to start a family? With me?" She asked, obviously confused at what he had said. Her mind was unable to comprehend what was happening. She had wanted to have a family with him all this time yet the idea, when said by him now, seemed so embarrassing (in a good way). Her heart skipped a couple beats in her chest. "You really want to?" Nefertari asked as she moved closer to him so that her nose was just inches from his.

The look of shock and disbelief on her face was more than enough for him to feel stupid for bringing the subject up. It was a bit of a heartbreak for him, to have put his heart and soul into breaching the subject. Only for his mate to be so absolutely stunned by the idea that she can't bring herself to answer. The weight on his shoulders began to build once more, and despite his very stubborn ways, he felt he could cry right about now. But he would try to hold back, he really didn't want her to see his disappointment.

Again she asked in disbelief and again he felt terrible at having brought up the idea. But then she came closer, and for the first time he realized she wasn't shocked in a bad way. She was just as awkwardly attracted to the idea as he was. A soft purr rumbled up from his throat as he nuzzled against Nefertari's cheek lovingly.

"Yes, I really want to. I know Nia is still young, but I know you want cubs of your own. I think ... I think now is a good time to have them." He smiled his nervous smile and continued on. "You've been gone a lot recently and i've been checking in to some things. There are prides around the area, I thought maybe we could look into some. If heaven forbid Nia isn't accepted, i'll set her up with a pride of hybrids." He wasn't incredibly happy with the idea of abandoning his daughter, but he would of course see her as often as he could. "I want you to experience the thrill of a cub or cubs of your own. I thought .. you'd like the idea." Lowering his head slightly he tried to pick up on signs of his mate's feelings. Was she just nervous of the idea being breached so suddenly? Nervous of being a potential Mother? A mix? He had no idea, but he was here to work it out with her, so long as she was willing to let him.

When Ulimi nuzzled her cheek she purred and smiled a bit, even blushing. It had been a long time since they had done something like this with one another and it felt odd, in a good way, to be doing it once again. "I love you." She said with a soft smile. She gently touched her nose to his, "I want to have cubs with you." The words flowed out as if she had practiced them before which in truth she had. Yet she was still taken off guard by the fact that he had looked into prides for them and their potential future cubs. "You looked at prides?" Nefertari tilted her head slightly. And then she realized what he had said after that, that he would leave Nia in a hybrid pride if necessary and she felt a little bad. "You don't have to do that." She rolled her eyes. "I mean, she can't do anything for herself so sending her off to be with even more useless hybrids wouldn't be a good idea would it?" Nefertari asked, even though her words really meant: do you really want to leave her with strangers? And I wouldn't want to separate you two.

"And I you. There is nothing I want more." He purred, taking the opportunity to step away from his mate. He should probably better explain himself, before he got into trouble again.

"Well no, I guess that was not the right thing to say. While you've been gone, a few lions have ventured near the den. Mostly friendly, a few of them have told me of prides in the area. There are quite a few, but some of them are not meant for us." He chuckled lightly, imagining Nefertari as a half respected female among a pride of viking lions. "But others, could prove to be a good fit. We can take a trip to check them out if you'd like." He smiled a small smile, already having a slight idea in my mind. But not daring to mention it. She was to be the Mother of his cubs, and as such she would choose where her babies would be raised. He would be the loyal mate that would follow her anywhere.

So elated that his mate was on the same level as he was, he hardly recognized her first bash at Nia, but definitely caught the second. He flinched, by now completely understanding of his mate's detachment to the young cub. "I think it would be a great idea. Being with others of her own kind, she will learn about the life ahead of her. Who better to prepare her for such a life than those who live it themselves?" Pausing in his speech, he winked at his mate and continued on. "I will of course be in the wings, prepared to reteach her everything she knows. Because I wouldn't trust their techniques farther than I can throw them. She will grow to be a fine young lady, with a strong sense of self." He was proud of his daughter, regardless of how unhappy his mate was. She was his flesh and blood and he wanted to nothing better than to see her succeed. Which sadly was something she would never get to do, roaming ine the rogue lands.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 26, 2012 5:31 pm

When Ulimi began to explain more about the prides and how exactly he came to hear of the local one's she smiled. "I would gladly follow you into any pride and start the rest of our lives there." Nefertari told him honestly. She wasn't sure what prides had sparked his interest, but she knew deep down she could trust him. Even if right now it was a little hard for her to admit that because of Nia's existence. Then again, it was something that was done before they had even met. Nefertari sighed when he continued and the conversation about Nia came up once more. Part of her couldn't wait to get rid of her and the other part of her knew what it was like to be alone, to not have a family. Maybe if Nia hadn't been Ulimi's and they had stumbled upon the cub in these barren lands she would have grown to accept her sooner, but that wasn't the case. "So be it." Nefertari flicked her tail, showing her reluctance to accept the cub once more. Instead of allowing this to turn into another fight--which Nefertari could feel herself starting--she decided to steer it towards the bright future waiting for them, or so she hoped.

"So where to my love?"
