It was a good day in the Swamp. The sun dappled the landscape and in some places created a large enough patch for someone to bask in glorious warmth. That was just what one kimeti buck was doing. Darkest Hour had spent much of the morning running around with his eaglehound All Spark ending in a successful hunt. After a fine meal a nap in the sun seemed like just the thing. All Spark had settled down with her friend at first but soon grew very restless. She stood and stretched before lifting her muzzle to the air sniffing. "Something interesting?" Darkest Hour asked lifting his head slightly, though he made no further move toward standing himself. The eaglehound gave a quiet woof before returning to sniffing. She started to move away and looking back at her buck tilting her head questioningly. "Its ok you go on and check it out," he replied. "Give a howl if you need me, I'm not going anywhere." The eaglehound let her tongue roll out in a doggy laugh before turning and moving away faster in pursuit of the interesting scent.

Stealjaw was - well, it could not be supposed the dutiful eaglehound was ever happy, but he was certainly much, much, more relaxed today than he had been of late. Ever since the siblings' search had concluded, his inquisitive mistress Time After Time had actually been content to remain in one place for a while, rather than traipse around the entire Swamp in search of Motherfather-knew-what curiosities. Albeit, it was largely so her hapless brother, having slid into a not-so-slow descent into madness, could find her on the fly, jabbering wide-eyed conspiracy theories about his parentage. Either way. Whatever. Stealjaw had never cared much for that ridiculous buck. No, the best of the situation was that he could leave off his constant vigil over Re-wind for bits at a time, free - gloriously free - to stretch his legs in an open run (Re-wind would always begin to trot - then stop, attention caught by some strange twist of branch), to snap his fangs at a foxbun in hunt.
And so it was he found himself alone today - not far from his mistress, but alone - free to sniff curiously at a strange, scaly ball. It was alive, he knew that much, he had seen it curl tighter and loosely, but the scent was new to him. He was not interested in it for prey, merely intrigued - and what a luxury that was.

As All Spark moved closer to the new scent she picked up another, one more familiar to her, that of a male eaglehound. She laughed again, this could be even more fun than she first hoped. With the scents growing stronger she slowed and approached cautiously using the available cover. She first spotted the male, he was quite the handsome fellow, his colors reminding her of her kimeti, but more richly red instead of blended fire. Ok one scent located now what was the other... oh what was that he was sniffing? All Spark crept out from her hiding place her focus on the curious scaley ball, but she was certainly also aware of the other eaglehound. Perhaps he'd share his toy?

He cocked his head warily as she approached, but her scent was pleasant and her posture amiable. Resolute in his duty of protection, he rarely met other eaglehounds he could fraternise with, and he had growled off many as perceived threats to his clueless mistress. This one, however, agreed with him - perhaps it was just the more relaxed mood he could afford lately, but somehow, she felt right. He stepped graciously aside, tail wagging slightly in invitation. The ball curled tighter still.

She grinned at the invitation and approached the ball, noticing the movement as it curled tighter. This caused her eyes to widen with curiousity and delight. What could it be? She stepped up to it and sniffed, then she reached out and tapped at it with a paw, jumping back when it moved again.
All Spark looked back up at the male, tilting her head to one side. What is it? she asked with that look.

Stealjaw did not know, but felt compelled to appear wise in front of this lovely hound, so he sniffed at the ball most diligently, as if he could divine an answer from scent alone. Not a moment later, however, he had to freeze in the act and straighten rather sheepishly as the voice that governed his days sounded through the air:
"Stealjaaaw! Where are you? I've just found the most amazing - oh! What have you found?" Re-wind exclaimed as she came close enough to notice, eyes wide, "Fascinating! A curled-up pangolin! I don't believe I've ever seen one this clearly before! Did you know? Pangolins are nocturnal, and naturally hide rather well in the dark, so it's difficult to - oh." Her voice fell, forlorn, as the ball uncurled and walked away, having decided that eaglehounds were one thing, but a chattering Kimeti? Enough was enough.
"I'm sorry," she said, dismayed, "did I chase it away? OH, you have a friend with you!" And her eyes were back to sparkling blue again, leaning down to beam at the other eaglehound.

All Spark watched amused as the male tried to show off. It was clear to her now that this creature was as new to him as it was to her and she was about to call him out on it when a voice called out. The eaglehound bristled but held her ground as the excited babbling kimeti doe approached the eaglehounds and their discover. It seemed finally that someone knew what the thing was but it didn't stay around very long. She let out a woof of disappointment but allowed the thing to wander away and looked curiously at the doe instead. A tilt of her head at the male, Is this yours?
Sitting alone in the sun was a good time but it wasn't quite as nice without company. It didn't take long for Darkest Hour to decide to go looking for All Spark and see where her nose had led her. He knew he was on the right track when the odd creature came rushing by clearly looking harried. It barely seemed to even notice him in its eagerness to be away. The buck chuckled and fully expected to see an eaglehound in pursuit. Curiously there was no eaglehound but he heard the sound of a feminine voice and faintly a woof the he recognized. He quickly moved the past few steps eager to figure out just what was going on....

Stealjaw cringed a little at the lovely eaglehound's quizzical tilt and thumped his tail in apologetic ownership of the noisy, excitable, ball-scaring doe. For better or worse, this was his.
And the noisy, excitable, ball-scaring doe was currently fawning all over Stealjaw's new friend: "Hello, hello! Oh, you are a pretty hound, aren't you?! Such very interesting markings you have got, with that beautiful blue on your chest and the intricate gold arrangement of lines...it feels almost familiar..." and she paused for a moment to scan through the vast repository of images in her head, but could only shake it, unable to locate an exact match, "it certainly looks like it means something - maybe it means you have a big heart! I'm sure you do - I'm sure of it!"
Absorbed in the eaglehound as she was, the new hoofsteps approaching the trio came upon them entirely unnoticed by her, even as her long-suffering eaglehound whipped around to guard his mistress' back, fixing the newcomer with warning - though not entirely unfriendly - eyes.

All Spark opened her mouth and let her tongue loll out in a good natured doggy laugh. She wagged her own tail in understanding before turning her attention back to the doe and looking for all the world like she was most interested in what was being said.
Darkest Hour reached the scene just then and would have chuckled if not for the fact the Stealjaw was the first to notice him. The male eaglehound's manner was such that laugher was certainly not appropriate, though All Spark seemed to think so.
"Ah, there you are All Spark. Looks like you've made some new friends?" he said by way of announcing his pressence and the reason for it.
With a slight look of apology the female eaglehound bounded over to her buck and barked happily. Her manner as she turned back to the others said it all. This one is mine.

The smile was on her lips as Re-wind turned to greet the eaglehound's owner (or owned, as it may be), but as she laid sight on the beaming buck, her eyes went wide, and her mouth reformed into an 'o' instead. Perhaps it was that he was rather handsome. Perhaps it was that pretty much the only bucks she had ever had any significant interaction with were both her brothers. Perhaps it was - and, certainly, she would rather think this - that there was something about the glowing blue eyes, the blaze of red and gold, the uncommon slant of his shoulder scale...that called to a strange primordial part of her that felt as if it meant something...but she could not quite, as with the eaglehound, recall, a novel and slightly frightening sensation for someone eidetic.
Whichever it was, for the first time ever, Re-wind's little heart in her chest skipped a beat.
It was fortunate her cheeks were already always bright red, or surely the blush would have shown through. Suddenly aware of herself, flustered and embarrassed, she quickly gave a second pass at the smile, "O-oh! Hello!"
Stealjaw, who had relaxed his stance upon the lovely eaglehound's claimage (if with a slightly disappointed air that she no longer stood by him), pricked his ears and slowly drew up his haunches in wariness again... This. This was an unusual reaction from his mistress...and one he wasn't sure he quite liked to see develop...

Darkest Hour was used to being admired by the does and some bucks that he encountered, but there was something different about the way this doe looked at him. It was almost like they had met before but certainly he would have recalled such a rare beauty. Grinning he stood there as if posing for her admiration while he did some admiring of his own. The amazing shade of red with flecks of golden fire were right up his alley, and her hair was a cascade of glossy black that invited nuzzling aside to get a good look at those eyes. When the lady found her voice, the buck took a step closer and bowed. "Hello. I knew my friend had caught an interesting scent but I had no idea her discovery would be so pleasant. I'm Darkest Hour," he introduced himself as always with the shortened version of his name and All Spark huffed rolling her eyes in response. He covered this by providing her name though he was fully aware why she was annoyed with him. "And this is All Spark." The eaglehound sat down and held her peace other than the annoyance that still showed in her eyes. In her mind the buck needed to learn to be proud of his dream instead of hiding from it.

"Darkest Hour?" she repeated wonderingly as he spoke: there was so much about him that blazed with life and light that such a name seemed strange, if nevertheless charming. She pondered this for a moment - then flushed and shuffled her hooves as she realised she should return the gesture, "O-oh yes, my name is Time After Time - but, please, just call me Re-wind! A-and this is Stealjaw. All Spark, what a lovely name! Did you name her?"
Trying to hide her embarrassment, she lowered her head to the eaglehound and smiled.Tygress Dream And finally. XD I'm so very sorry for my black-hole collapse, but I'm finally back RPing! Thank you so much for bearing with me. <3

The buck tilted his head slightly, curious about the way she said his name. Did she realize something was missing? An insightful type perhaps? He was intrigued and waited patiently for her to provide her side of the introductions. Ahh nice she had a nickname as well, perhaps... well ... no. No one knew his name but himself, his familiar and the Swamp. Maybe if they got to know each other better? He gave himself a slight shake and replied taking a step closer to cover his own lapse into thoughtfulness. "It's a pleasure to meet you Re-wind," he replied though in his own mind he did rather like her full name; Time After Time had a certain musicality to it. He also turned to the eaglehound, "And you as well Stealjaw. Yes, when we met her name sort of came to me. There's a Spark in her to help light the way." Jun D *hugs* Any time, especially with these 2. It was fun coming online yesterday to all the notices between these tags and the Phony CYOA lol

"Yes..." she concurred, a little dreamily from the romanticism of the notion at first, then again with enthusiasm, "yes, she certainly, certainly does! That is just the perfect name for her! I didn't name Stealjaw myself - he's been with me for...oh, as long as I can remember, and I remember just about everything. I was just born, I think...I couldn't see yet, but I heard a voice say 'Stealjaw', and he's been here ever since. So I think that's his name. I think!"Tygress Dream Here! I promise I won't let that burn in your pocket for long! XD <3

"He answers to it, so it must be right?" he replied with a chuckle. Then he realized the fullness of what she said. "You remember that early on that clearly? I remember growing up mostly as impressions. Its more like... like filling in the blanks of what must have happened. I'm here after all so certain things had to have happened along the way, right?" All Spark watched the kimeti for a but before sniffing around in the direction the pangolin had run and Darkest Hour had come. She looked over at Stealjaw with a tail wag and inquisitive bark, You want to see where that thing went off to? She glanced at their owners and rolled her eyes, They won't miss us for a bit.
