~I am the Cure~ It was an ordinary day...
In the distant but not-so-distant future, peace reigns and has been for...well, as long as anyone can remember. With only minor problems between countries, that can be sovled without violence, people began to turn their attention to other things- like their failing health. So what did scientists do? They began creating cures- for everything. From the flu to all forms of cancer, people were getting healthier left and right. For a while it was great, but all good things must come to an end.
The common cold. Everyone catches a cold once in a while, right? But if we can cure cancer, why can't we cure a silly cold? Scientists began to ask themselves this. And so...they made a cure for that as well. A vaccine, if you will.
They should've stopped at cancer.
People lined up for that shot like it was going out of style. For the first few days, people were living it up; they'd never be ill again. And then Maria L. woke up with a terrible fever and headache. She thought it was nothing more than the after effects of partying too hard, and went about her day. However, as the days rolled on, she began to get worse instead of better. That final day, only two weeks after this vaccine came out, Maria died in her room.
She wasn't the only one...
Reports from all over began flooding in about death tolls and a new, deadly strain of virus. This was the first time in a while that people began to fear others. Surgical masks were worn all of the time; water bills went through the roof with people constantly washing their hands; barely anyone ever spoke anymore.
You may think the story ends here...it gets worse.
The dead weren't actually dead...not for long anyway. Yes, they began coming back, although they were a bit different than before. They were stronger and their senses had become more defined, not to mention the fact that they had a taste for human flesh. Zombies, if I may call them that. You see it in horror movies but this time, it's the real thing.
Zombies quickly overran major cities and small towns, and if you weren't taken by a zombie, you became one by the original virus itself. It had become airborne, and with every person that left their house, there was one more Zombie running amok. Soon enough the virus and Zombies disrupted the balance of pretty much everything and survivors refused to ever leave their sanctuaries except for in emergencies.
What does this have to do with me?
There were a select number of people, all teenagers no less, that were somehow able to get in touch with each other. They told each other about how, even though they'd been exposed to the virus, they didn't die or change. The CDC and it's small number of survivers hypothesized that there was someone or many people who somehow had the ability to fight off the infection and if they could find these people, they could engineer a cure from their blood. It sent out a televised form of this info, in case one of these amazing people saw it.
The only problem is getting there...
Your journey starts in California, a good 1500+ miles away from the CDC's base in Georgia. You'll face flesh eating Zombies and animals that have been exposed to the virus; you'll even have to fight off survivers who have lost all hope and now want to kill you and drink your blood, thinking it will save them. However, out of the kindness of your hearts, you'll make this journey to save the human race...right?
Sounds like a fun journey...

~Rules~ All rps have 'em, this one is no exception.
1)Be respectful. 2)Follow Gaia's ToS and guild rules. 3)Swearing is allowed, just don't go overboard. 4)Romance, drama, hate relationships, etc. is encouraged. {but keep it pg. 13 on the romance if it even gets that far. You are being chased by zombies xD} 5)I'm not really that concerned about post length. 6)Be as active as you can. I know that some people are on summer break or what-have-you, but I also understand that some of you aren't or are just really busy. I'd say at least 3 times per week if not more. 7)Tell me when you might be gone for a lengthy period of time. cool Have and ungodly amount of fun :3
Rules are subject to change but they probably won't. Please put an awesome face ( emotion_awesome ) in your message so I know you read the rules.

Lyra L.~
Lyra paced in the hotel room. Everyone in the hotel must've been dead by now, and if they weren't they were doing the smart thing and hiding, like she was. She stopped pacing and walked over to the mini fridge. She grabbed a bottle of water out and chugged it; it was that last one she'd had. The only thing that was left was alcohol, and no matter how hard she tried to force it down, Lyra couldn't drink it. She hated anything alcoholic. Faint footsteps rang in the hallway and Lyra rolled over the bed and grabbed the bat that had been leaning against the wall. She was ready for action, but the foosteps continued past her door and she relaxed as much as anyone could in this situation. It had been a month since her mother died and two weeks since all hell had broken loose. "I've only been stuck in here for fourteen days...?" It seemed like forever as the hours of waiting to have to bash someone's head in went by. She sighed and hopped on her bed to look at the last message she'd recieved from Amai.
I'm coming to meet you.
Amai didn't live to far from where Lyra was, but it had been an entire day and a half since the girl had sent that message. "Hopefully she hasn't become zombie food." She rested her hand on her cheek and scrolled boredly through the messages from the others. Hopefully they'd meet up soon, Lyra was already out of food. Amai M.~
Amai gasped for air and leaned against a sign that read 'California Exit Here.' That last fight had taken alot out of her, but she knew she had to keep going. There would be more zombies on her trail and she just didn't have the strength to fight right now. But she had the strength to run. She couldn't believe that she had made it this far; a four hour drive was one heck of a walk. She passed deserted buildings and apartment complexes and houses and stores; she even passed a few zombies who were too busy snacking at that point in time to notice her. She found an abandoned gas station and inspected it to make sure it was actually abandoned. When she was satisfied, she went in and quickly stuck Brisk Teas and Doritos into her bag. "Lyra said she was about to run out of food. This should be good." She sighed, sat on the floor, and opened a tea she'd left out for herself. She only hoped that she was close to Lyra's hotel; she really needed to rest.

Xavier got up from the couch he was on, feeling he should do something but not wanting to get killed. He frowned, deciding to risk it. He had weapons, after all, and could fight off a couple of flesh eaters along the way if he had to. Besides, he really needed to find some food if he planned on living at all. He grabbed his broken glass bottle and checked in his black riding boots if he still had his knife, which he did. He opened the front door of his apartment carefully and looked both ways. It was all clear, and before he changed his mind, he ran down the steps and out of the apartment. He didn't see a living soul anywhere, and the street looked as if it was abandoned. He continued on his way, trying to find a Quick Trip or a place he could find something to eat. "This place is a ghost town," he muttered, cautiously glancing around, making sure nobody popped up on him. He started running, his feet pounding on the pavement as he went. Soon he came on a empty gas station, which was good because he didn't have any money to spare. He went in slowly, bringing out his knife in case. "Hello?" He called throughout, closing the door behind him as he went through the aisles. Soon he came upon a small girl who looked to be drinking tea. He jumped back, narrowing his eyes at her. "What are you doing here?" He asked her, more surprised than anything.
Trixie Valentine made her way through the streets, carrying her pistol in her hand as she watched for any flesh eaters waiting to pounce. She glanced north, and her eyes took in a tall boy, or what she thought was a male, go into a building, and disappear. "Hey!" She called, starting to sprint her way upon the sidewalk, trying to reach where he had went. Soon she came upon a gas station that was boarded up, but the door was unlocked when she tried it. She kept her weapon in hand as she went through the food aisles, trying to find him. She was excited to see another living, breathing person in her sight, and she wanted to make sure he didn't get away from her.

Lyra had started pacing again. "GOD she should be here by now!" Her mind quickly drifted to the computer and the other teens she had spoken with. As for as she knew there were five more kids like her, all fighting to stay alive. The CDC had sent out their televised message a few days ago; would these kids even want to make the journey? Lyra was sure she would and if she wasn't able to make it to Georgia, she'd make sure someone else did. This was not how the world should be.
Amai quickly looked up and saw a tall guy standing over her. She pointed the steel pipe she was carrying at him, dropping the tea in the process. She stood slowly and backed against the glass doors of the beverage refrigerators. She lowered her weapon and looked at the dude. He seemed to be alone, but then Amai heard a loud 'Hey' from outside. She then noticed a girl come inside the gas station. She immediately brought the pipe back up to the guy's face. It didn't seem as if they knew each other, but she couldn't be too careful. There was alot of crazy stuff happening! She then quickly remembered the CDC's message. "Are you two...you know...special? Are you going to help the CDC?" Her voice was a bit small for a 15 year old, but she couldn't help it.

Xavier stepped back when she raised the pipe up at him, but he pulled his knife out, ready to use it if he needed to. He lowered his weapon as she did hers, and he quickly said, "I'm not here to hurt you, I promise." He whipped around when he heard a yell from outside, and he frowned, pointing the knife he had in his hand up in the air, ready to attack. He saw someone close the door behind them, now inside. They said nothing else, but he saw the small girl put the pipe back in his face. "Whoa, whoa. Calm down." He raised his eyebrows when she mentioned the CDC. "Yeah, I was planning on leaving in a couple of weeks. I don't know about her, though." He gestured up to the front of the store, where the girl was now making her way noisily down the aisles, trying to reach them. "To be honest, I've never seen her before." He muttered curiously. He moved his hand slowly down to his belt, where he made sure she could see him put back his weapons; his knife back in his boots, and the glass bottle in his belt. He wanted to show her that he was not there to harm her. Trixie could hear the male she had seen earlier talking to someone, but she still couldn't see who. She heard commotion, and she quickly hurried to the back of the store, where she saw a small brown-haired girl who looked to be younger than her age, and the boy she had been making the fuss about. Breathlessly, she grinned at the both of them, her pistol still in her hand. "Hey, what's up?" She asked casually, putting one of her hands on her hip, panting from running so hard. "I was just stalking you for a moment-" She gestured to Xavier, who gave her a expression that was asking if she was crazy or not. "-because I just couldn't believe my eyes. I haven't seen a real, living human for a couple of months at least, so I figured I shouldn't let ya go and leave me." She winked at him, not meaning it as a flirt, but just in a friendly way. All the same, she could see the boy blush, and she laughed loudly. She now turned to the small female, and gave her a small wave. "And what do we have here?"

Amai quickly put her weapons back in their designated spot on her person. She then grabbed out another tea. She gulped about half of it down and looked at the two people. "I'm Amai. I'm searching for someone name Lyra. We were going to start the journey in a few days, after we were rested and everything. She's like, trapped in a hotel not too far from here." She smiled at the two of them and chugged the rest of the tea. "What about you two? What are your names at least."
Lyra was absolutely done waiting. Sure Amai could probably handle herself, but Lyra was worried, although she'd never let on that she was. People always told her she kept a cool head, even when she was dying on the inside. She grabbed her messanger bag and slung it over her shoulder. She stuck the knife in one of the front pocket for quick access and held the bat firmly in her hands. "Looks like I'm going on a hunt." She peaked outside of her door and noticed the hallways were eerily empty. Good thing she was only on the second floor. She ran down the hallway and took the stairs to the lobby. She was definitely not going to take the elevator; it would have been a watse of time and she didn't want any suprises when she stepped out. She looked through the glass window in the door and when she deemed the coast clear, she ran through the lobby and made her way out of the revolving door. She was outside now and that's when it hit her. This 'Zombie Apocalypse' thing was really happening.

Xavier was relieved when the girl put her weapons back after he did, and he smiled his thanks at her. He frowned when he heard this 'Lyra' girl was trapped in a hotel room. He was worried for both of them, because this girl could be his little sister she was so small. He wondered how she could have made it this far, but he had a feeling she was better at fighting then she seemed. And the other girl she was trying to find could be dead from a surprise zombie attack, or could have moved or something. He hoped Amai knew exactly where she was, but he didn't question her. He turned to look at the new girl, who gestured for him to put his story first. "Er, I'm Xavier. I was trying to come up here searching for food, because I ran out in my own apartment. I was planning on going in a couple of weeks, but.." He trailed off and shrugged, not so sure now. He didn't know too much about it, and the adventure was going to be a tough one. There was always a chance they could die. Trixie went ahead and put her pistol in her shoe carefully, so she wouldn't set it off. She glanced up and heard the question from Amai. She gave him a huge grin and pointed at him, letting him know he could tell his life story first. She then looked Amai over, noticing she was very small for her age. She guessed she was only thirteen or fourteen, but knew she was probably a little off. She felt her breath come back finally, and she straightened up crossing her arms across her chest as she stared at the boy named Xavier, or so he said. He was armed in clothes that seemed like they were meant for an army, and he had a knife in his boot that was peeking out of it's spot. She hid a smirk when she saw the broken glass bottle. It couldn't do much to a zombie, but smash their brains, if they had any. But she could see the pipe that Amai had put away, and could imagine that doing some damage. Maybe they wouldn't die after all, if they both agreed to come with her. When the boy was finished, she spoke up. "My name is Trixie Diana Valentine, but you can call me Trix or Trixie. I've been in California forever, and only know the streets as my home." She spoke quickly, hoping they could understand her, or at least catch up. "I've been killing zombies since this whole thing started. I don't know about this 'journey' thing, but it sounds good to me. As long as we aren't going too far. I never leave California. Other than that, we can go together, right? Also, if it is okay with you, Amai, I wanted to know if I could go with you to find this girl you are talking about." She flashed them both a white smile, hoping they would agree. She was tired of being alone, and being around only zombies as company.

Amai smiled in response to the both of them. "It's nice to meet you guys. Truthfully, I've been tired of only having zombies as my company, because, you know, I have to kill them." She laughed at her joke and then stood upright. It would be nice to have human companions; not just for the company, but for the man power. This was a city and tehre could be alot of zombies running amok. "You guys can come with me. The more the merrier. I hope Lyra's okay, she told me to bring food as she was running out. You guys might wanna bring some snacks as well."
Lyra ran across the street and leaned against a building. The dead weren't really walking around, and that worried Lyra. She held the bat steady and ran past the office where this all started. It was the clinic where Lyra's mother had received her vaccine. She silently cursed the building as she passed it, and of course there had been zombies just waiting for a snack. They ran after her, and she picked up speed. "Just my luck."

Xavier nodded when she said that the both of them could come with her. He grinned at the zombie joke she made, and straightened up when she said they might want some snacks. "I'm going to go find some, then." He muttered, and went back in the store through the aisles, going through the shelves to see if he could find something. He found a couple of Paydays and three warm, small strawberry milks in a cooler that had been shut off. He glanced over the expiration dates and frowned. It was a couple of weeks old, but if it came down to it, they could drink them. He carried these things in his arms and looked around for more food. He soon came across two gum packets and a pack of Cheetos. He was excited now, because they should be okay for a couple more days. He came back up to the back, where the two were, the smaller girl looking more uncomfortable then ever with Trixie. "I found a couple of things." He beamed at them, showing the three milks, two gum packets, two Payday candy bars, and one pack of Doritos. He was having trouble carrying them, so he set the milks and gum packets down. "What do you think?" He asked them, hoping for a positive reaction. Trixie felt better after Amai told the both of them that they could help her. "Awesome!" She put her fist in the air, a huge grin on her face. She glanced back at Xavier, who seemed to be just as joyful as she was. She watched him go and come back a few minutes later with some snacks. She picked up a milk, opened it, and sniffed it. She made a disgusted face and glanced up at him. "I'm sorry, but are you sure this is safe enough to drink?" She glanced at Amai, wondering if she was thinking the same thing. "These are warm and it says this expired almost two weeks ago. But I think these other things are okay." She picked up a gum packet and opened it, stuffing a piece in her mouth and chewing it. She nodded, tasting the flavor. "Watermelon. Nice. This is good."

Amai smiled at the Xavier and Trixie. Even though they'd just met, it seemed like they'd get along just fine. She cringed as the stench of the milk wafted past her. "Ugh...That's kinda why I stuck with tea. Longer shelf life." She smiled and turned around to looked inside the once-refrigerated section. "There are a few otehr things in here. I should grab some waters too." she said, already stuffing about 7 into her bag. She loved her oversized purse, she knew it'd come in handy one day. She turned back to Xavier and smiled at him. "She's right though, everything else is great. You can stick them in my bag if you can't carry them on your person."
Lyra ran fast and avoided the mangled arms trying to grab her. She hurried through an open door; it was a library door. She didn't have enough time to check for other flesh eaters; she was too busy running from the ones chasing her. She found a stairwell to the roof and quickly ran up, even skipping a few steps in the process. She threw the door open and slid down the slanted roof back onto the pavement. She glanced back and realized the zombies were no longer chasing her. She kept running though, until she came upon a small post office. Flinging the door open, she jumped in and then quickly closed it behind her. She then hopped behind the desk which housed a half eaten corpse, and sat on the ground.
