"Goodbye Ukoga!" Caritas called after the green lion. She smiled. He was a nice guy, if a bit older than her (okay, a lot older than her), but he was still a nice lion to just sit and talk with for a while. And with all the kids running around the pride and the pregnant mothers-to-be (and let's not forget the pregnant mothers with older children), she'd been fairly stressed of late. It had been relaxing to just sit and talk with someone who didn't expect or ask anything of her besides company. On reflection, he wasn't a bad-looking lion either. Perhaps not the youngest and most attractive, but still handsome enough. And Ukarimu hadn't yet made a real move...he'd said he liked her, but where was the proof? A girl got tired of waiting, after all.

One day I'll recert himUkarimu wasn't as forward as Caritas would like. Even he had a little doubt within himself. Here, it was final. So....he was either with her, or without. It was differen in the rogue lands, and one of the things he had to swallow hard. Did he want to try and take that step? She was so serious, but so playful. Which part of her would believe him if he admitted to his own doubts? It was hard because he didn't trust anyone enough to share that much of his thoughts. He was too worried about it reaching her ears without his control. All of this was his own accord....and he was thinking he'd screw it up big time. He walked around, looking for her...but also sort of hoping that he couldn't find her. It was scary to think about.

Caritas sighed. Why were males so difficult? She'd found one that she liked, but he made no move. There were several others in the pride that she wasn't related to (how remarkable was that?) that were passable, but she wasn't as attracted to them.
But honestly, what was a lioness to do? She didn't want to force Ukarimu into something he didn't want, but she'd thought he was attracted to. He just...didn't say anything unless if she prodded him. Which was a damn shame.
The black lioness looked up and saw the lion in question, standing on a slight ridge, clearly looking around. She wondered if he was looking for her, but didn't really want to ask. If he wasn't going to say it, why should she help him?

Ukarimu's light green eyes caught sight of another colour green. One that was....walking away from Caritas. What was going on? He was curious, and a little anxious about it. While she didn't seem to be on cloud nine, he didn't look like he could be related to her....
With a gulp, he trotted down to where she was, hoping that she was in a good mood. "Hey, Caritas," he said with a small smile. His blonde mane made it a little hard for him to hide. A bit like Caritas' back legs and peachy ears. So cute.

Oh, what was this? He was coming up to her? That was certainly promising. "Hello Ukarimu," the lioness replied quietly. She wasn't really in a mood to make this (whatever it was that he hoped to accomplish today) easy on him. It had been enough moons since he'd joined the pride that he should know his own mind on any subject, including her!
He really was handsome, and she really did like him, but if he wasn't going to DO anything, how could she possibly spend the rest of her life with him? She didn't want to have a mate that she walked all over, that wasn't the partnership she desired.

She didn't seem that happy to see him. Did she already move on??
Ukarimu had a habit of failing, it seemed.
"Yeah...who was that that just left? I'm getting names to faces, but this pride is a lot bigger than I thought when I first joined." Hopefully some casual conversation might warm her up a bit. He didn't want to just...confront her about anything. For all he knew, she was just telling her about another pregnant lioness.

Oho, asking after the other male? That was even more promising and Caritas dared hope that he might actually do something! Still, she decided to play it cool. She wanted him to come out and say it, if he was going to.
"That was Ukoga," she answered after a short pause. "He's an older member of the pride, though a sweet guy when you get past the gruffness." She mused on the green lion with a half smile on her face before looking back up at the black one before her.
"Why do you ask?"

"Oh..." That was mildly disappointing. She didn't give any hints about what they were talking about, or how she felt about it. She was playing it neutral, so neutral it was starting to drive him nuts. Was she playing him now? Teasing him into saying something?
Ukarimu didn't know if he wanted to take that bait. Man, females were scary.
"I am curious. Can't a man be curious when he sees a beautiful girl talking to another male?" Ugh, so cheesy. He meant it, though.

Flattery now, hmmmm? Well, a girl liked flattery. Especially when she was certain that the lion in question didn't have a deceitful bone in his body and so only spoke the truth as he saw it.
"I suppose you can be curious," she admitted at last. "I certainly would be if I saw you talking to another lioness," Caritas added. If that wasn't enough of a hint...maybe she should just give up on him. Maybe.

"Hey now! I wouldn't be talking to another lioness unless it was part of my hunting group." Which was sadly....very true. He wasn't the most social lion, and if he was, he chatted with other males than the females. Perhaps it was an unexplainable connection, since he had grown up with only his mother and sister. Getting that male bonding was actually pretty cool.
"I really only like to chat with you when I have the time, Caritas." He knew he was building up to something. He wasn't trying to, it was just sort of happening on its own. He hoped that she wasn't expecting too much from him....then she might never talk to him again.

Caritas raised a mental eyebrow at that. She supposed it was necessary for him to talk to the lionesses he hunted with...but did he really have to explain that to her? She didn't exactly want to hear that he talked with other females!
"It seems you don't often have the time," she replied neutrally. She knew that it was possible for them to meet more often than they did, but she wasn't certain if that was because he was shy, because he was still learning about the pride, or because he wasn't as interested as she wanted him to be.

"Well......this is really awkward to talk about." Should he really just...tell her everything?
He decided that taking the dive was better than not. "I spend a lot of time thinking. I stayed here because of you. I've been working on adjusting to the life here, instead of rushing into it. Then I realized how important some aspects of life are here. Your job is proof enough of that." His tail twitched as he swallowed, trying to put his thoughts together.
"I have no one to talk to about how I feel. So I just internalized it all, without talking to you. I'm sorry, Caritas, it isn't fair. I really like you."

He was right about one thing. This was incredibly awkward. But...as the words poured out of the lion's mouth she felt her eyes growing wide. She'd hoped for something like this, but hadn't dared dream of it.
But...saying he really liked her...that still wasn't quite what she wanted to hear from him. At least...at least this was progress.
"You...don't have to apologize," she told him, though she was overjoyed that he had. That he cared enough to say those words. Even if they weren't the ones she wanted most.
"I...like you too," she admitted. She'd give him that much.

He smiled. Like. A LOT. Well, at least he was going in the right direction!
"Ah, that makes me so happy. I figured that I really screwed things up. I know I'm a bit...dense at some things. Which is a little odd, considering I was raised by a single mom with a sister. You'd think I'd have a better knack for handling things better with you."
His whole body relaxed, and he started to chuckle a bit. "You're amazing, Caritas."

Great Lion, that smile! Those green eyes lit up and Caritas just wanted to melt inside. Ukoga didn't have anything on Ukarimu, regardless of what she'd idly been musing about earlier.
She had to smile back, not just because his joy was contagious, but also because he was so sweet about his own denseness. And the flattery. Not to forget the flattery.
"I'm glad to know you think so," she replied. "And yes, I think you maybe the densest lion I know." In so many ways even. He had mentioned his comprehension, but he was also densely black and those muscles!
If he didn't turn her off with his words, there was no way she was giving him up to another lioness!
