Mal'Sangre had wandered too close to a pride, he could feel it. By the behaviour of the creatures around him and the fellow rogues he occasionally spotted wandering by, he figured he was not far from the border. The question was... which pride? Friendly or fierce? Not that it mattered, anyway. He was convinced that he was cursed to feel strange in the company of his own kind, so even if was the most welcoming pride in the land, he had little desire to make his acquaintance. It was still early morning, so the sun didn't beat down on his black fur with it's usual strength. Mal'Sangre found himself becoming a bit more relaxed than usual as he steadily made his was forward, step after step.

She was bored. It was no question. She wasn't sure what she wanted to do either, and that made the boredom even worse. She had thought about hunting, she did need to get better at it if she was going to join the hunting parties when she was an adult. She was close, but still she was young enough to enjoy herself.
She stretched from under the tree, rolling on to her back to get an itch. She wriggled one way, and then another, before righting herself and sighing. She was ready to do...something..But damn it she hadn't decided what she wanted to do.
The sun shown his dark colors as if he was a beacon. She saw the shadow moving past the savannah, and she perked, cocking her head. Curious, she took a few steps towards him.

Mal'Sangre didn't spot the young lioness until she had drawn closer. Briefly, he took her appearance in. Pale cream fur, white accents, and an intriguing marking that reminded him of the sun... She was a pretty thing, old enough to be on her own but not quite yet grown to her full potential.
The differences between them was obvious. While he was dark in both appearance and temperament, she seemed to lack his reservation and her colours contrasted with his own... He wondered if her happy colours reflected her personality too.
He stopped and gazed at her, not with curiosity or contempt, but with indifference... She would have to give him a reason to change his mood. "Who are you?" he called out, just loud enough for her to hear.

She smiled when he spoke, unaffected by his indifference. She just did not feel that he was mean, and her mother had done little in way of teaching her to beware strangers. She was wary enough, sure. But that was about it.
"I'm Dahlia, silly! Better question is who you are. You're the one near the Pridelands." She said with a chuckle as she stepped closer. Once she was a safe distance, but close enough to converse, she sat, and cocked her head at him again.
"You have pretty eyes." She chirped, before pausing, and waiting for him to speak.

He blinked at her response. Well, that answered more than one of his questions! And her upfront friendliness almost made him feel welcome in her presence. Huh. That never happened... From his past experience, if he didn't feel odd around someone, that someone would and any socialization would be brief.
He was even more intrigued now, but it only showed with the blink and a slight flick of his eyes. Which... caught her attention, too? At the compliment he reacted even more, feeling a bizarre sense of... warmth? He couldn't remember being complimented for anything before.
Mal hesitated, then lowered his head a little bit in a polite nod. "And so are yours..." He muttered, remarking that her eyes were also a stunning shade of pale blue.
Then, he continued to speak.. an act which even surprised himself.
"The Pridelands? What are you doing away from home?"

She thought he felt more relaxed as the conversation went on. But she couldn't really tell, not over his still stoic demeanor. She had never felt it was wrong to compliment others, she was always friendly. It was part of her charm.
"Thank you." She said, smiling warmly as her ears flicked back and her cheeks tinged in a blush. Though the blush was short lived, as she didn't want to make the conversation awkward with modesty.. She always found that that was a killer of most good conversation.
"I was wandering. I was thinking of doing some hunting, but I was simply too bored to do anything. But you, you have yet to tell me your name!" She said with a giggle.

Mal felt the odd spark of warmth in his chest grow when Dahlia thanked him with a cute flick of her ears. Wait, cute? For a moment, he felt like berating himself. No, he couldn't be thinking so fondly of this lioness. It wasn't like him at all! And his perceived curse would be sure to make nothing good come out of this meeting...
Then Dahlia continued to speak, effectively driving his thoughts away. The bubbly way she spoke was like a bright light that he couldn't help but follow.
"It's still early in the day. There is plenty of time for hunting later," he replied, the corners of his lips twitching with a slight smile he couldn't quite hide. "My name is Mal... Mal'Sangre. It's... a pleasure to meet you, Dahlia."

She was glad he agreed that hunting wasn't something she needed to do right this moment. She didn't want to have to work the rest of her life.. and being bored didn't make her particularly hungry.
"Well it's a pleasure to meet you too, Mal'Sangre. If I can call you Mal, then you may call me Doll, if you want. It's not the best nickname, but it's what my momma and brothers use. So if I had any friends.. I imagine they would call me that too." She smiled, nodding happily. She really didn't get to go out much, and though she had no enemies.. She wasn't exactly breaming with friends.
"So what are you doing out here? Do you belong to a pride?" She asked, standing and moving close to him. She sat so their shoulders barely touched, and she looked up at him with piercing blue eyes. She really did love his eyes!

"Doll?" That time he couldn't restrain his smile at all. That was such a silly nickname, yet it seemed to suit her perfectly, even if she didn't agree. "Well, I think that's a good arrangement." He chuckled a little. Then he looked at her with a puzzled expression. "You don't have any friends? That seems strange... You seem to be good-natured and friendly, so I assumed you would have plenty within your pride."
He wasn't exactly sure if the last sentence was more for Dahlia or just his own thoughts coming out aloud.
Family... He didn't really want to think about family. It made him think of his youth and how he had left his... He hadn't left because of any particular problem, but with indifference. The same indifference he grew used to using around others as well.
"I don't belong anywhere. Never have," he said, meaning to say that he had never belonged to a pride but cringing a little since it revealed more about his feelings than he wanted to. He was going to correct himself but Dahlia settled very close to him, so instead he found himself gazing into her lovely eyes.

Quote: She saw him smile, and inwardly she wiggled a little. She knew she was working away his hard exterior slowly, which only egged her on further. She looked him over, noting that he was a big lion. He was handsome too, though he had that cool demeanor that matched his cold blue eyes. But.. For some reason she liked those eyes. They didn't feel cold to her.. Not really.. When he asked about friends, she looked at her paws, before looking back at him sheepishly. She shrugged, and sat with a plop against the earth. "Well.. I don't have many friends cause I mostly stay around momma. Its not that anyone hates me or anything. Some just think I'm a little -too- friendly." She had been told that before.. She came off as dumb with as pleasant as she was to be around. She didn't understand the logic, but she wasnt going to defend herself. She knew she wasn't dumb. "Well.. You can belong here with me if you want. Even if you end up leaving. It's good to know you have somewhere to belong." She said with a nod, a smile grazing her features, as she nudged him with one cream colored shoulder. Quote: "Too friendly?" He repeated, his voice coloured with a touch of amusement. "I can't imagine why anyone would get that idea." Dahlia was definitely a friendly one. Friendly enough even to speak so openly to someone like him, a stranger without a tie to anyone else. Everything about her seemed to be her kindness brought out into visual form, from her soft blonde fur to her striking sunny marking. "I... I can belong..." He said the words almost as if he was in shock. The warmth inside him, the acceptance he felt from her... was that how it was like to feel happy? To be wanted? To be free? Something in him wanted to reach out and embrace the feeling. "I... would like that." Mal said quietly. Quote: "Well not everyone can accept others as easily as I do. But that is their cross to bear." She chuckled, and smiled again. She was definitely a happy girl, and she wasn't willing to change because someone else was irritated by her. No, she was happy to be as happy as she was. "Of course you can belong, silly! You can be my friend, if you want. Everyone should have a place that they feel welcome to come to. And if that place is with me, then .. so be it." She smiled at him, blushing a little as she felt that was a bit intimate.. Though she liked it. She liked him, and she had never felt her heart beat so wildly before! Quote: Dahlia's happiness and pride in herself was refreshing to Mal'Sangre. He wasn't used to it at all, but it was a nice change from his usual melancholy. It was definity Dahlia's unique charm that held him there, and opened him up to interaction, so he stayed with her instead of trying to escape into the shadows as was his usual habit. He didn't even feel ashamed about the smiles that kept creeping over his features. He wanted to lean into the young, beautiful lioness and feel even more of her warmth. Some doubt always lingered in his mind, but he easily ignored it. "I'd like to be your friend if you'll have me, Doll." He said, adding her nickname for an affectionate touch. "As long as I'm not inconveniencing you. Perhaps I could help you with that hunt of yours?" Quote: Dahlia was thankful she had a friend. He seemed lovely, and even if he was slightly emo in personality, she.. liked it. She almost felt that they could work off each other, and that was all she wanted.. Someone who wanted to be around her, because others just didn't seem to care. She did what he was thinking, leaning over into him, and lying her head on his shoulder. She felt his warmth, and closed her eyes as she just sat there..breathing.. Before she nodded, and moved her head away just to look at him. "I'd love that.. And you aren't an inconvenience! Don't talk like that. I won't have it." She teased, and stood, before lowering her chest to the earth playfully. "Come on, lets go see your skills!" Quote: Mal's heart practically stopped when Dahlia put her head gently on his shoulder. It lasted just a moment, just him and her enjoying each other's company, but for Mal, it was the longest and sweetest moment of his life. "I won't. That's the last you'll hear of it," he said in a subdued tone, the words mostly for Dahlia's benefit, for the moment. For once he was determined to prove himself wrong! Hunting was one of the few things Mal'Sangre excelled in, so he chuckled and prepared himself by digging his paws into the soft dirt. "All right, if you can keep up."
