To writer;

There are 3 journals here of the three constant constants of the story. The other 9 are up you, which can be your own OCs or somebody you made up on the spot to fit inn.

Not too long ago, there was a commercial on Channel 11, running only once early Tuesday morning, just around 2am. I honestly don't remember why I was up at all back then. I had school that morning, had to get up at 5. I haven't watch TV for years. My computer had replaced the rectangular box a long time ago. It was just standing there out of habit and to fill up the empty space by the corner. A bit of the miracle the old thing worked at all. A press of a button, some comedy, and then it started rolling just about as I was to fetch another cup of coffee. If anything, it looked more like a lazy, low budget slideshow with some badly put together text than adverticment. The voice-over though, was ominous, booming and most of all; alluring. It was most definitively a man, a well gown one, sounding suspiciously alike the man announcing at the local Hell House set up every Halloween. "Good evening, night dwellers". I fell back into the sofa, forgetting the wake-up drink I so badly needed. "Take a look around. No, really, let your eyes wander. What do you see? What you have always seen of course. Nothing has change from the last time you checked, and why would it? That is just how it is. Now, ask yourself, examine yourself and your soul; when was the last time you felt excitement? Hm? An unexpected sale last week? You almost missed your train? Lost your phone in the park? Ah, that is what I thought. It has been a while. Now, what would you do if... I could offer you a solution to your boredom? Give you an experience that would shake you to the very core of your being? Let you live something so spectacular and frightening that you would never forget it? Would you take it? Yes, no?". There was a long silence. Nothing on the screen, no sound in the room, and yet I was glued to the television. Yeah, sure, it would be nice to have something breathing down your neck a bit. "Excellent!" the voice suddenly exclaimed. A phone number suddenly appeared on the screen. I quickly dug up the cellphone from under the pillows, desperate not to miss the number. The commercial on the other hand, seemed to have plenty of time. I scribbled it down, just in case, and began typing the numbers as carefully as I could. Now that I think about it, he never asked us to call. It rang three times, and somebody picked it up; a woman. "Thank you for participating in the Haunted Mansion Challenge. Name please?". I answered quickly. "Good, good. Nigel said you would call.Well, good luck to you sweetie, you're going to need it. You'll be hearing from us soon". "Wait, don't hang up!". The line was dead. Ugh, how great, just typical! Hanging up on me the second I call. Could it get any worse? I need coffee...

I took a deep breath, and stuffed the notebook down the backpack. I still couldn't shut my eyes. I had so many questions. Who was Nigel, why didn't they ask for my address, what was the Haunted Mansion Challenge and most importantly of all; why would they expect a call from me to participate? Was this a practical joke of some sort? It felt like it once I thought it over. Why was I so eager in the first place?

A week later a got a letter. The content was as followed;

I flipped the paper over several times, reading the Rules and Guidelines over and over again. Impossible to resign once inn? Safety reasons? Dangers? I'm not actually going through with this, am I?

... I think I am.

The Haunted Mansion Challenge

The Haunted Mansion Challenge is a challenge set up by a man named Nigel, in his Winter home up North in Seattle. What he looks like nobody knows, but he's always available when you need help. The challenge is quite the simple one; live in the Mansion from the 15th of October till over Halloween, and you've won. This of course, means that everyone who wins will win 1 million dollars each, IF they survive that is. Nigel hasn't set anything up in the house, except the help phones (see Rules and Guidelines below) and providing their daily needs. The Mansion is haunted all on it's own, and Nigel has recorded every single spook and happening there. If things get real bad, Nigel will send an exorcist to assist the contestants, but there are no guarantees it will work. If there is a death, Donald will come to pickup the corpse and contact the family. Donald is the groundskeeper by the way. You won't notice much of him unless you're inn on the Mini Challenges.

Notable spooks and happenings

It's to be noted that none of the contestants are in fact informed about the spooks and notable happenings beforehand, and get them little by little as they ask Nigel, but no outright answers unless he sees them as relevant.

Room 23 - It's suspected this might be Nigel or Donald's room. It holds no malicious intent.

Basement closet - This closet reeks of rotten meat and is haunted by a large amount of cats. Opening it will anger them, resulting in zombie cats running wildly around the house, attacking anything that moves.

Ormwood lake - Not specified. It's suspected that it is haunted heavily by drowning victims.

The Maria Doll - Probably one of the worst spooks in the Mansion. The Maria doll is an old porcelain doll, and belonged to one of the previous owners of the Mansion, Maria Remington. Miss Remington had problems getting pregnant, and kept losing her children just before they were strong enough to survive the birth. After her death, Maria Remington began haunting the Mansion, spending time looking for her unborn children. As a result, Miss Remining began doting on a doll her husband bought her, letting it act as a replacement. In the end she felt it wasn't enough, collecting more and more doll, and in the end poisoned herself, her soul becoming attached to the smallest one with long golden locks and blue eyes. Kids, or sometimes young adults, will sometimes feel heavily watched in the Mansion, often finding the Maria doll on almost every single they turn. Touching it gives Miss Remington permission to "take them away" from the game, which is basically sending them into a coma (or rarely keep them conscious, if they decide to behave and call her mama), manipulating their age to one she finds appropriate and treat them like they're her own. The upside about this troublesome ordeal is that one is pretty much garanteed not to die before Halloween, as Miss Remington will protect "her child" from anyone and anything that gets too close. The downside is that you're... stuck. Permanently, or at least until Nigel has sent an exorcist to get Maria back in her doll. It's possible to run away from Miss Remington for a while, but impossible to escape for long and difficult to hide.

The Jewelry Box - One of the most rare objects to come across in the Mansion, and possible one of the scariest as well. Opening it has no immediate effect, and if you close it properly right away, it's no danger. Leaving it open, however, turns the house into a surrealistic place that would make Dali jealous. Keeping the box open means the contestants have no way of returning, even after Halloween, and Nigel loses the ability to send help. To add to it, all spooks that were before connected to a certain spot or item is set loose to rampage exactly as they like. To return the Mansion to normal, one must find the jewelry box, which is easier said than done, and close it.

The Chair in the Library - Not specified. Nigel just strongly recommend the contestants to stay away.

The Camera in the Basement - The camera is quite the strange object. Looking through the lens will reveal a slideshow. At first quite the happy one, then little by little it becomes darker and more uncomfortable. One must watch it to the end in order to avoid trouble, but most have troubles stomaching half and even less want to see the closure. Those who do manage, claim that they've seen Nigel at some point.

October 18th, Fox Hunt - One of the mini challenges for the contestants. The game is quite simple; get from point A to point B in Ormwood forest. Easy enough? If you look away from the fact that there are werewolves out there chasing you during the whole thing, yeah. All who get through the challenge will double their money. If one forfeit or does not make it, will not double their price money.

October 22nd, Finders, keepers - One of the mini challenges for the contestants. Nigel has hidden a skull somewhere in the Mansion area, and the contestants must find it. One winner will double his or her money. If the skull is not found before midnight, there will be no winners in this round.

October 26th, Riddle me this - One of the mini challenges for the contestants. Donald will give out a riddle, as a group the contestants must solve it. All who get through the challenge will double their money. If the riddle is not solved, there will be no winners in this round.

October 28th, Deceit - One of the mini challenges for the contestants. This is a game of chance. All contestants will be asked a series of questions. Those who answers them truthfully will see the challenge through without any problems. For each lie you're caught telling, Donald will spin the wheel of fortune and decide a punishment for the deceitful. If the deceitful is lucky, the punishment may be admitting the truth. One of the worse punishments are losing all of the money the contestant has built up during the mini challenges, or being refused to join the last challenge on Halloween. If one is real unlucky, the contestant might be forced to do an individual challenge far worse than anything so far. Drinking blood, eating raw flesh, getting burned under your feet or being humiliated are pretty normal punishments as well. All who get through the challenge will double their prize money.

October 31st, Halloween - One of the mini challenges for the contestants. It's the day of the dead, and what better way to celebrate than to kill the undead and other demonic creatures? Nigel will release a hoard, leaving the contestants all to themselves to finish them off with whatever they can find in the house. The ones who decide not to join will be placed with Donald in a safehouse. All who see through this challenge will double their prize money
