Offering to spar with other hunters was always risky with him it seemed. He had that nasty habit of sending them to the infirmary. After so many times... it was a bit hard not to. It was just a force of habit. So when he was asked to spar he'd offer an alternative. Defense lessons. He'd attack a bit, them defending and vice versa. Less chance he'd end up sending them beat up to the infirmary and get yelled at for being too rough. Sherry was one of the life trainees he'd seen and when he'd offered a brief defensive spar she's accepted. They set the time, just after lunch on the training grounds. Leaning against a dummy, the moon trainee waited. She'd show up sooner or later.

Training. Sherry knew she needed it, in all areas. She had practically jumped at the chance to spar with the Moon trainee Marcus. A bit more battle training, focusing on defense? Oh, heavens yes. After swallowing a quick lunch, the Life trainee headed on down to the training grounds, anxious to get started. She walked quickly, absentmindedly playing with her scarf as she went. Walking into a fight, even a fight where she knew death was highly unlikely, always tugged at her nerves just a bit. Armagnac said she just needed to walk into more fights. And that's exactly why we train, she told herself as she came to the training grounds. It didn't take her long to find Marcus, and she moved straight toward him. "Hope I haven't kept you waiting," she nodded in greeting.

He waved as she arrived, not bothered in the slightest. "It's okay. Better than vanishing and not letting me know. If that happened I'd probably be yelled at for not being productive." He smiled, summoning Dis, the scimitar flashing blue briefly. "Since we'll be covering defense, To start off, I want you to come at me, no holds barred, and we'll go from there." "Glad to hear it," she smiled in return. He got right to it, summoning his weapon and telling her to attack. She was a bit glad of that, anticipation was the worst part, honestly. Following his lead, she summoned her own weapon, Armagnac growling with glee in her head. "Alright then," Sherry adjusted the glaive slightly in her hands, took half a step back to steady herself, then brought the blade swinging down toward the moon trainee. HP: 40 Damage: 7

The glaive hit the blade and Marcus felt it dig into him, Dis sighing. The girl had some skill with her attacks. "Good hit. You managed to get me, even when my block was up. Now, I'm going to attack you, and I want you to try an defend the blow." Dis purred in his mind. Try not to kill her my Marcus I don't aim for sending them to the infirmary. But you still end up doing it. Like magic.HP: 44 Damage: 10 GrnGriff We can just apply the defense roll to this attack -u-

Grinning in spite of herself, Sherry accepted his praise. Things seemed off to an alright start. Armagnac purred. Of course, Sherry knew things would be changing. It was a lesson, after all. As Marcus finished speaking, Sherry spun the glaive around, placing the pole across her, preparing to use it defensively. As Marcus followed his words with an attack, Sherry felt the moon trainee's blade strike her. Armagnac made a disgruntled noise in her head. It could have been worse, Sherry retorted. She had deflected the attack a bit, of that she was sure.
"Kind of like that?" she asked. She was still wearing that grin.

Her block wasn't bad either, and while he might have broken through, she still managed to block some of attack. Nodding he pointed to her feet then his own. "Yeah, most of the time we get pushed back because we don't stand properly, which is what leaves people open after. It's fine if you can block an attack, but if you can't get up right after, it's almost not worth it you know?" Lifting up his blade, he nodded again. "Okay, I want you to attack me again, and try to figure out what part of my defense is weak." HP: 44 Defending: 1 GrnGriff We can do this a few times or go into battle battle if you like

"Footing is important. Got it," she nodded, committing the advice to memory. "Gotta be ready to bounce back." Suddenly she was glad this was a defensive lesson, because she wasn't sure if she could have bounced right back after that attack. More practice, always, she told herself. She nodded as he took a defensive position again. "Ok, I'll try." Sherry quickly adjusted the grip on her glaive, then stepped forward quickly, bringing the blade in from her right with a small, tight arc. Close combat wasn't her specialty, but she could try. Armagnac growled in approval. HP: 32/40 Damage: 10 iStoleYurVamps We can have Sherry defend a couple more times and see how much life she has left after that.

The blow was quick and pushed him back, the force behind it unexpected. Shaking his arm, he smiled though a twinge told him he might feel that a little later. "Damn good attack, sure you're not suited for sun?" He laughed a bit, spinning the bad in hand again. "Alright, we're going to try this again. This time, get is what you think it a good position for taking a hit, center yourself and brace for a bit for the impact from my strike." waiting until she was ready, Marcus charged forward, hitting before pulling back. Sherry’s grin filled with pride, and Armagnac growled happily. “Don’t know if I could handle Sun,” she replied. Armagnac liked the idea of it, more fighting and all. But Sherry was not her weapon. She took a half-step back and pulled the glaive in close with the pole across her chest preparing to defend. The blow came hard, but as Marcus pulled back, Sherry knew that she could have taken a lot more damage than she had. Centering herself as he advised seemed to have helped a bit. Her opponent was bigger and stronger than she was. Sherry was terribly glad that he wasn't actually trying to kill her. HP: 30 Defended for: 5 iStoleYurVamps So sorry about the delay! As Marcus back away he heard Dis chime in his head. She was good, and her fear was apparently, very tasty. The moon hunter wasn't sure if that was a compliment or an insult to Sherry. He was guessing compliment, but more to her weapon. "Sun is pretty straight forward, so not much to think about. Ehhh when put into that context it sound a bit insult, sorry." Backhanded compliment he'd never intended. Whoops. "But, one more time, try to break my defense okay? Try to use the shape of my weapon against me." Sherry chuckled at his comment. "No worries." She was much more insulted by the fact that her weapon was telling her they should transfer. Sherry shrugged off the wyrm's words, and took a moment to study Marcus, well, his weapon anyway. A sword with a bit of a curve. Use the shape of the weapon? Alright. She could try that. She brought her own blade in, attempting to do as she'd been instructed. HP: 30 Damage: 6

The blade came and Marcus felt it run along the curve, headed for the hilt. Dis hissed, berating him for 'abusing his fine shape'. Still, the moved suited his purpose, unable to keep the block up he was forced to pull back. "Good." Keeping his weapon summoned, he popped his shoulder. He would have a thing or two to say about transfers, mostly to go with what you were good at and what you wanted. And if you wanted a better life expectancy than sun. He liked living, even if he was a bit.. bad at it. "Alright, now I'm going to do the same to you, but this time I'm going to try something unexpected alright? What I want you do to is try and figure out just what I'm going to do before I do it. GrnGriff So you know~ He'll be attacking her with his sword but then also w/ his fist~ word-701

Sherry nodded again. Defending again, and this time she had try and predict more than just his sword coming at her? Sherry looked forward to it. She could certainly use-- Armagnac grumbled something about how she would like to see less thinking and more hitting. Sherry ignored the weapon, adjusting her feet for defense. One good thing about a pole-arm type weapon seemed to be, well, the pole. It could be effective for blocking those head on attacks. Of course it was thin, so it didn't really cover anything (and that was outside of the maneuvering problems maneuvering problems). Which meant even if she stopped a sword, she would be wide open for a million other things. But. If she could figure out how to deal with 'the unexpected' then her chances in a fight would surely go up. Sherry was extremely glad that she had accepted defensive lessons. Marcus seemed to cover everything. She stared at Marcus while adjusting the glaive, positioning her hands far apart and readying herself to block. "Alright," she exhaled, comfortable with her defensive position for the moment. She continued to watching him, hoping she would be able see what he intended to do. HP: 30 Defending for: 4

She's getting better. Ah, but the question is are we getting any better my Marcus? See if you can't cop a feel for me. Better luck next time Dis. That's enough of a yes for me.Placating Dis, Marcus watched the way she got into position. Her stance was good from what he could tel, and the angle she was holding the weapon seemed good. The real test however, would be when he hit. Going forward, the blade came up to meet her weapon. As metal hit metal, his free hand swung out, going for her arm. The face was a bit too rough and the gut was just painful. The arm or the side was much... easier to rebound from. HP: 29 Damage: 7
