This was it. The edge of the swamp. Passing Light had only dreamed of coming to this place, a place the plagued him. It was odd, he was pacing now. His tail twitched feverishly as his hooves pawed as the earth. The smell.... It was heavy with humidity. The sounds of the swamp intrigued him, but he had traveled so far and now he paced at the edge.

He had no harem to call his own, or a gang of bucks to run with. Just himself, called to the swamp by a fleeting dream. He knew he wasn't alone on this quest but was he the only buck to remain apprehensive at the border between him and this wondrous place. Fade threw his head back in frustration breaking into a gallop along the boarder of the swamp to clear his head.

Quiet Horizon enjoyed coming to the edge of the swamp. She would wander now and again to where the trees vanished and she could see for miles. The horizon. That was what she was looking for. The pastel doe was about to lay down on the edge of the swamp when she heard the clopping of hooves.

The doe looked in the direction the sound was coming from and spotted someone running, and they were swaying this way. She took a step further from the swamp as the buck came racing towards her.

Fade hadn't seen the other Kin coming out of the swamp until he was almost upon her. He managed to change direction in the nick of time. If he hadn't seen the doe when he did, they would have collided. He slowed his pace as he made a wide turn to return to the doe that appeared in his running path. Fade was a bit more calm now, the run helping him greatly before he pranced to the female.

"You shouldn't go running in the way." He shook his mane as he eyed the doe impatiently. "You would be in great danger if you don't look before you leap." His hooves dug into the soft earth, the smell of the swamp beginning to make his mind wonder.

Horizon shook her head. "I wasn't so far out of the swamp that you would have run me over." she huffed. She'd like to think she was a better judge of distance then that. "You're just over worried. Or something." Her feet finally left the outskirts of the swamp as she pranced over to the strange buck. She hadn't seen anyone like him before. Horizon may have been staring at him a bit too long as she wandered around him.

"What brings you round here, stranger?"

The buck snorted in retort as he watched the doe walk out of the swamp. Now that he had gotten a better look at her, he couldn't say that he's seen much of her kind. A few here and there, but the other Kiokote had mentioned the swamp was full of the Kin before he left. Now she was staring at him, making Fade sweep his tail across the ground uncomfortably.

"Love at first sight?" He flicked his ears casually, still pawing at the earth. "I've come here for my own reasons." He looked past the doe, into the swamp, "I think a change of scenery would be nice."

She snorted. "Love?" That was giving himself too much credit. "I'm just trying to figure you out. I haven't seen one of your kind before. So I'm curious about you. You look different." She stopped her circling and just stared at him, her tail swaying slightly across the ground. "Change of scenery?" One couldn't see far in the swamp. There was a much better view of the world beyond the trees. But maybe to someone who lived beyond the trees, this was the scenery?

She turned and took a couple steps towards the swamp. "Don't suppose I could think of a better place to go for a little sight seeing~"

This came to a surprise to Fade. Of course he'd take it as a compliment, but he didn't look any different than the Kiokote back home. They were all the same, well for the most part. He waited until the doe stopped circling him to reply. "Yes..." His answer was slow and drawn out. Fade's hooves moved to follow the doe into the swamp before he hesitated. "Are you, perhaps offering to show my around?" He wasn't sure what to expect from the mystery of the swamp that lay ahead of them.

"Well the swamp is what you came to see, right? You've never been in here before, yeah?" She paused to look over her shoulder. "I bet you'd get lost" she clicked her tongue at him, teasing. "So might as well have a guide, right?" She breathed deeply as she stepped under the shade of the trees of the swamp again.

The buck nodded his head following after the doe. "I'm not some hopeless fool." He didn't want to admit that she was probably right. The unknown dangers of the swamp would also pose a threat. "I'm glad you're offering to help me out. I suppose you really have taken a liking to me." He kept up a cocky trot behind her as the made their way into the swamp.

"Could have fooled me. I mean, who was the one racing at the boarder, unable to come in without being guided in?" She gave a cocky half step, kicking a small clump of mud behind her at the unfamiliar buck. "Watch your step of course." She suddenly realized she didn't know what to call him. Then again, he didn't know her name either. Shouldn't a male give his name first? Yeah, that's how it worked. She shouldn't have to ask for his name! What sort of gentleman was he? A rather shabby excuse for one.

"I was simply looking for a good point of entry." The clump of mud stuck to his hoof, much to his displeasure. "I'll be sure to keep an eye out..." Fade was currently admiring the scenery with a critical eye. It was so different from the plains he had come from. The air felt hot and the trees seemed dark and beautiful. The sun gave off a stunning light onto their path.

"Well... Doe..." He didn't know what to call this female who decided to lead him through the swamp. "What is your name anyway?" It was a rather curt way of asking, but he was too busy looking over all the new plant life and scurrying creatures to care.

"Mmmhm." She totally believed him. Yep. He was probably just a coward. Horizon pushed a low branch out of her way, but let is snap behind her as she heard the gruff way he... demanded her name. She decided to mess with him just a little and looked over her shoulder, through the leaves of the branch, almost like she was flirting.

"Isn't it customary for a boy to give his name first, before asking a lady's name?" For added effect, she bat her eyes at him a little.

The low branch caught Fade across the cheek, scratching him and providing a small cut that bled. "Thanks for that." His eyes watered as he tried to focus on the doe who was looking at him through the branches. Well, that was more like it. He took in the flirtatious looks, giving his tail a quick flick.

"If that's the only way to get your name then I have no other option." He watched as the doe batted her lashes, feeling quite proud. "I'm Passing Light." He stood squarely on the ground, "And now for your name." He nodded his head as he spoke.

Her voice softened. "Quiet Horizon." She replied, looking at the buck's cheek as the cut welled up with a hint of blood. "Mmm, makes you look more rugged now." She might have felt bad that it actually hurt him. She just waned to hit him with the leaves. ... It was his fault for walking too close! Yeah. His fault. All his fault. "You're ok though, right?" Her tail gave an uncertain flick

"Lovely." He nodded again, "I'll be sure to remember your name Quiet Horizon." Fade wondered if the doe might be worried now, looking over his small cut. "What, that?" He laughed heartily, "It's just a scratch. Nothing to worry about. If I had been paying attention, maybe I would have dodged it." He gave her a reassuring nudge with his nose. "Now where are we off to?" His ears perked up excitedly as he looked around.
