Drakma lie alone, as usual beneath the night sky. The stars and the moon his only companion, oddly he was fine with this though. He'd been out of contact with others for quite some time and the feeling of being alone was starting to rub off on him. It was peaceful, quiet, and above all else empty. Meaning he had all the time in the world to think about his life and the direction it was taking.
For the most part he felt fine with his life, he had no regrets. Except the one regret he could do nothing about. His Mother, he missed her with every fiber of his being and held her high in his heart. He regretted not being able to protect, having been so weak and useless. He regretted everything about that day, but he knew she would never want him to think that way. So he tried his best not to, but that didn't mean he couldn't hold the species responsible for it's actions.
A growl rolled through the male's belly as he watched a flash of heat lightening cross the sky. It was going to be a long night, he could just feel it.

Lakonale hummed cheerfully as she walked along by herself. Now that she was old enough to take care of herself, she was on her own. No more family to wander away from and come back to. No more snuggling in the den. It was rather lonely. Sometimes she had a hard time just finding someone to have a conversation with out here in the rogue lands.
Her blue-green eyes looked up with concern as lightning arced across the sky. There was no rain at the moment but that didn't mean a storm wasn't going to come. If she were lucky, she'd find someone to spend the night with. After all, she was wide awake and wouldn't be falling asleep till the early morning hours before the sun rose into the sky.
Her humming continued on till she saw a mane. "Ooh, a possible friend," she whispered to herself. Not wanting to startle him or her, she couldn't really tell yet, she loped over to the....lion, it was a lion. Her paws making as much noise as a leopard possible could. "Hello there! Would you like some company?" Her eyes were lit by her smile and joy at finding another.

While the unfamiliar voice hadn't been something he'd expected, it still disappointed him to no end. Right when he was finally starting to tune into his inner loner - someone just had to pop up. The female voice sent a shudder down his spine, though goodness only knew why. For the time being, he would visually ignore her, not really interested in expending the energy to face her face to face.
"Not especially no." He grunted, forcing himself to tell the truth rather than get her hopes up on a welcome encounter. "Though by the sound of it, you are." He paused, still not turning to face her. "In which case, come have a seat. I was just star gazing, perhaps you'd be interested in joining."
Of course he had no way of knowing he was speaking to a leopard and quite frankly would have chased her away at the start had he known. But for now, he remained blissfully unaware - which truthfully was probably for the best.

Lakonale made a face to herself with the fur above her nose wrinkled in thought. He didn't seem especially friendly, not at all like the others she had met while wandering. She smiled to herself when he extended an offer for her to join him. It was considerate of him. She wondered briefly how he knew that she wanted company. Perhaps her tone had tipped him off. Glad for the offer, she took it and sank down onto her belly to lie just behind him. He hadn't looked at her and perhaps he didn't want to.
"Thanks." It was said quietly as her eyes took in the sight of all the stars in the sky. A sight she had seen many times since she liked to be up at night. Now she wasn't sure what to say. What if he didn't want to talk at all?

Drakma merely shrugged off the female's choice to sit behind him, perhaps she was a little nervous to be so close to a stranger? Didn't really matter to him, he would choose to respect her distance and merely hold a conversation on her terms.
"You are most welcome. So tell me, what is that brings you out here so late in the evening? Are you lost?" Of course he was prying, though he could really care less how she came to be here. She just sounded as though company would do her some good, and he knew how it felt to be alone when you didn't want to be. He couldn't deny her the company.
"My Mother always told me, that the stars can always prevent you from being lost. But everytime I tried to learn how to follow them home - I just got more lost." He chuckled at his own memories, attempting to hold back the pain in his voice.

Lakonale looked down at her paws with a small smile upon her maw. She tilted her head with indecision. Should she scoot closer to him or stay where she was? It would seem awkward for her to just suddenly move, as if stalking him, while low to the ground. The choice was made, she would stay just behind him. "I'm not lost." Her tone was cheerful again. "I am most comfortable at night. As a cub, I always played after the sun set." Ah, the memories. She missed those carefree days.
She listened to him speak of his mother, the stars, and home. There was no longer a place she called home. There were certain stars that she did remember though. "I've always used landmarks to find my way home. But I don't have one anymore." There was a bit of sadness but she knew she had to find a new home now or maybe just find herself.

"Huh not lost you say?" Drakma paused, watching a thick cloud pass over the patch of stars he had been staring at. "I guess traveling at night has its advantages, but it seems you run into just as many disadvantages." He frowned, thinking of all the lonely nights he'd spent with no company. "It definitely gets lonely out here." His tail swatted at the sky lazily. "I don't much remember what I was like as a cub. It's a blur among many others in my memory. You should cherish what you remember, it's not fun to be forgetful."
At last the cloud moved out of his way and a twinkle appeared in his eye. It shone brighter than the others, and he felt it was perhaps a sign, a sign from someone dear to his heart.
"No home? Well you don't always have to have a home to be happy. Take me for example - I haven't had a home in quite some time. But I find something to be happy about every day regardless, and I consider wherever my feet take me, to be home." He patted the ground at his feet happily. "Sure it's a bit flat, and uncomfortable, but it's mine at least for the night." He grinned.

Lakonale's ears were perked in interest. She had never just sat with a stranger and spoke with them of things like this. Most of what she remembered talking about was just silly things. This conversation had a more serious note to it but it was very relaxing for her, not like she had any reason to be tense in the first place. He must have roamed these lands for a long time based on what he was saying.
"True, there are ups and downs of traveling at night. It has always just been that way for me. My mother calls me a night owl." She nodded at his words, even if he couldn't see it. "I will cherish them. They define me." Would he never turn around? Although maybe she didn't want him to. There was a slight thrill at not knowing what his face looked like. In truth, they truly were two strangers. He didn't even know what she looked like at all or that she was a leopard.
She laughed softly at his logic. "I suppose that is a good way of thinking. My home had always been one spot for a long time. I'll have to learn to think of the ground I sleep on as home." It would probably be hard. At least right now with memories of home so fresh in her mind.

Drakma nodded solemnly at her words, relieved to here that others cherished the memories that formed their lives. He would cherish his, if only he could form a clear enough thought. But this wasn't about him, truly he didn't really know what it was about. Sitting in the middle of nowhere, in the middle of the night, chatting with a complete stranger. It was so ... out of character for him. To accept company so freely, even in his times of ultimate loneliness. He shrugged to himself, chalking his new friend up to fate. His mom was good at shoving unexpected surprises his way - or at least, that's how he thought of things.
"So tell me, you speak of home as though you miss it. Is there some reason you can't return to it?" He paused pulling together his thoughts once more, and realizing he didn't much care of she felt as though he were prying. She had accepted his company, he would do as he pleased.
"I mean, your tone, you sound as though you have a longing to be back home. I have a knack for reading the tones in other's voices. There won't be any use in denying that fact." He laughed to himself, allowing his belly to rumble with a throaty laugh.

Lakonale had to really think about her answer. It was nothing tangible that made her long for the place she used to call home. The memories, laughter, and fun times were the things that held her heart there. There was a very good reason she couldn't return. "Even if I returned, which I can at any time, there will be no one there. My family has moved on with their lives. Just like I must move on and find a new home or at least figure out what I'd like to do with my life."
Even though she was grown now and had many adventures, she felt that she had so much more to learn. Compared to the lion she now spoke to, she was relatively young in terms of experience and knowledge. Though she had no idea how old he was exactly. She didn't even know his name yet. "I'm Lakonale, just so you know who are are speaking with." Her tone was tinged with a smile, a note of happiness. Hopefully he would reward her with his name. She didn't know why she felt happy, maybe it was the fact that she had company.

Drakma shrugged at her words, understanding exactly what she meant about moving on. Once you were grown it was sort of expected of you to leave the nest. Even though he personally hadn't been given that option, it was a common expectation, unless of course you had a really overprotective mother. In which case, you might never get the chance, even if you wanted to. "Understandable." He responded flatly, his tail lifting lazily off the ground and falling back down once again. "Well that shouldn't be too hard, you just have to follow your heart. Your heart will always guide you where you need to go." Drakma sighed, and took a deep breath of the evening air. It was getting later by the second, and even though he wouldn't mind keeping this lady company for the evening, he had bigger things to do. He would stay a bit longer, but not long enough to cut into his sleep patterns.
"Lakonale - that's a lovely name. It sounds almost floral." Taking another sniff of the evening air, he caught a small whiff of her scent and was disappointed to realize it didn't smell all that floral.
"I'm Drakma, you can call me that, I don't really go by nicknames or anything." He finished with a shrug, knowing she hadn't really asked but not really caring.

Lakonale's head tilted in thought as she stared at the back of the mane of the lion who kept her company. To her, his words seemed to speak of wisdom beyond her years. He must have experienced a lot. It made her happy that she had met him. "Your words give me hope. I feel like now I don't have to worry about the future." Whatever came now, she would face it and live her life the way she wanted too.
His comment on her name made her giggle a little. "Thanks. It's nice to know your name Drakma. I don't really have a nickname either." When addressed, it had always been by her full name.
Her eyes blinked lazily as she felt the need to rest come upon her. She allowed herself a big yawn that Drakma most likely heard. "I think I feel so comfortable that my body is telling me it's time for a nap." Since it was still night, she most likely wouldn't sleep longer than an hour or two. She could never fully sleep at night, only take naps.

"Don't let my words fool you, nor let them deter you. The future should not be feared, but should always be respected. Always be on your guard, so that the world doesn't knock you on your paws." If only he could take his own advice, then perhaps things would have turned out differently. But this was all hindsight, and there was nothing he could do about that. "If there were ever any advice I could give you - I think that is the best I can provide." He paused for a moment, allowing his own words to absorb. It felt wonderful for him to pass that advice onto another, especially someone so young. Whether she chose to follow it was her choice, he could only hope she would.
The large yawn actually distracted the male for a moment, and he allowed himself to let out a small huff of a laugh at her expense. "Well if that is truly the case, you are free to rest here. I will remain for your protection if you would like. But at the same time, I can leave just as easily. I'll leave that decision to you."

Lakonale nodded even though he couldn't see it. She was so glad to have met him. The appreciation she felt for him sharing his wisdom and experience was more than she could really put into words. Other than her mother, he was the first to ever offer her advice and knowledge that she had yet to learn. When she spoke next, it was easy to hear her smile in her words. "I will remember all you have told me. Thank you Drakma, for the company and words."
She lay her head down on her paws. Her eyes drifting close. "You don't have to stay with me if you rather not. I don't want to keep you from whatever it is you need to do." Her words were soft. "It is company when I'm awake that I had sought. In my sleep, I'll be fine alone." It was true. Besides, she knew of her twitching habit while she slept. It would be utterly embarrassing to have him turn around while she twitched in deep slumber. Before any more thoughts came to mind, she drifted off in a dream.

He merely silently nodded at her words, not really being the mushy type that would be into pleasantries. He was just glad he could pass on his wisdom, nothing else truly mattered to him.
As she assured him she would not need his company in her sleep, he prepared himself to leave, not exactly sure where he would go. Probably off under a tree to catch some sleep himself.
Without turning around to check, he knew she had fallen into slumber. She really hadn't been all that quiet during their encounter, so that was his confirmation.
"Good night Lakonale." He mumbled, stirring the dust around his feet as he stood to leave.
