Stand up straight, eyes forward, no what are you doing, hold it like that, no slouching, feet apart, solid stance, not that far apart- Lan could hear her elder’s voice even know as she held her bow out, arrow set to fly into the target in the distance. She was a skilled fighter, but she could always do with a bit of practice.

The arrow hit the target, but looking at where, she cursed. Two rings from the center. Not good enough. All it showed was that she could fire an arrow. Unless she hit that red dot, she might as well not fire an arrow at all. That was what her elder’s nagging voice would she saying she thought to herself. Joke was on you old man, you were the one dead now weren’t you?

And then she just went and made herself sad. Great.

Huffing. She dismissed her bow, hands on her hips and she stared at the target. “Why must things be so difficult?” She asked no one in particular. The only sound around her being that of crickets.

Training was the one thing that Zhiqiang showed any dedication and seriousness towards these days. Whereas he would have once skipped out on his daily practice with his bow, the conquest horseman had changed significantly in that regard since the destruction of the isles. When he trained now, he was careful, focused, and completely dedicated to the task at hand.

That was, if he was alone. It was a completely different matter if there was someone else there.

Such was the case today. Bow in hand, the Conquest horseman had head towards his usual training grounds with the intention of practicing, only to discover that someone else was already there. Someone who was...also of the Conquest clan?

Despite the fact that everyone he met had suggested that he find something that had shorter sleeves, Zhiqiang appeared to have stubbornly ignored all of their advice. There were times when he would temporarily tie or wrap them up, but for the most part, he preferred to leave them loose. Of course, leaving them dangling free not only proved to be a tripping hazard, but also meant that his precious clothing would get dirty as it dragged along the ground. As a result, Zhiqiang had come up with a brilliant plan to keep his sleeves from dragging over the ground.

It was simple: he would just keep his arms over his head as he walked.

As one therefore would expect, Zhiqiang looked pretty damn suspicious when, driven by curiosity, he decided to approach the horsewoman. Did he know her? They were of the same clan, and so it would not be so far-fetched of an idea that they might have been acquainted. Unfortunately, with her back to him, it was rather hard to determine who she was. When he finally realized that staring at the back of her head wouldn't help him in identifying her, he cleared his throat. If Lan were to turn around, she would be treated to the sight of this:

Lan had long sleeves, so she could relate. They dragged in things if she was not careful, and like the edges of her dress, were prone to getting far dirtied than other things. For her thankfully, she had grown up learning how to avoid such things. How to carry one's self, how to keep herself prim and proper.

She had never been told to carry her arms above her head, but, if she knew why, she'd have given Zhiqiang points for trying. At least he was trying, which was better than some who simply lacked any caring about their appearance.

She'd been wrapped up in her thoughts however when he approached, arms in the air, looking ridiculous. Gold eyes went from his raise arms to his face and for a second she wondered if something had happened to him. Maybe he'd taken a hit to the head by some hunter. Maybe he was infected.

Or maybe he was just eccentric. She certainly knew some horsemen could be.

Crossing her arms, she gave him a small bow. "Good day, is there a reason you are standing like that?" It looked silly and now that she thought about it, probably uncomfortable.

Never be sorry :'D

He still had that stupid look on his face when she turned and addressed him. At her question, he nodded his head vigorously.

"Oh, yes. There's a reason that I'm standing like this." There was a pause as he grinned at her blankly for a moment, and then he realized that she would probably want to know what this reason was. "You see, I'm trying to keep my sleeves off the ground! This is the only way that has proven effective--you have long sleeves too."

Arms still held up, he tilted his head at the horsewoman, dark eyes focused on her clothing. Yes, her clothing was quite long as well, but...how strange! The hem of her skirt didn't seem to be dirtied at all, and her sleeves seemed crisp and clean.

When Zhiqiang looked back up at Lan, his eyes were wide with awe.

"Wow."

He was clearly impressed. After another moment of staring, he suddenly grinned, flapping his arms as if he were trying to take flight. He didn't seem at all concerned about the possibility of slapping the Conquest horsewoman with his sleeves. "Teach me how to do that!"

Well he was a rather... enthusiastic one now wasn't he? Part of her said 'you should be worried' while another said that... this was another horseman of conquest, she really had nothing to worry about.

Raising an eyebrow at his reason for looking so ridiculous, Lan gave a shake of her head. He must have something wrong with him. No member of her clan would be this... absurd right? He was just.. ill. It would pass. While he seemed impressed with her, she wasn't sure if she was impressed with him. Had no one simply taught him how to carry himself? A shame really.

His flailing had her stepping back summoning her bow from reflex. She resisted the urder to smack him with it. "Well for starters-" she looked at his clothes. Really just- "One does not flap about like a headless corrividus. You must stand tall. Be poised." She tapped his leg with her bow.

"And not stand in mud."

It seemed that, because of the fact Lan looked so clean and spotless herself, she had earned immediate respect from Zhiqiang. Therefore, the moment she told him that he wasn't supposed to flail around, the Conquest horsemen suddenly stiffened, his back straight and shoulders squared. He even snapped a hand up in a salute, but the action only ended up with him slapping himself in the face with his sleeve.

...An "A" for effort, at least?

When she called attention to the fact he was standing in mud, he quickly crab-walked out of the mud puddle, splashing all the while. "Yes sir, I will be more careful not to--er. Sir. Ma'am?"

There was a pause as he looked down at her chest. There was absolutely nothing lecherous about his expression as he stared, but he looked at her with a kind of briskness. It was kind of like how one would check a minipet to determine their gender. After a moment paused in silence, he nodded, straightened up, and saluted again.

(At least he didn't use the touch test.)

"Yes ma'am, I will be more careful not to stand in mud next time!"

Lan would say she deserved respect not because of her cloths but because of her bloodline. But, that was Lan. She thought those of imperial blood were the bee's knees after all.

Watching him slap himself in the face did make her giggle, and she'd give him that, but his ridged posture, the use of Sir.. It would not suit. "Secondly, if one finds themselves in mud, do not splash it about. Move quickly out of the mud, but be mindful for to make matters worse. A dirty sandal is one thing, a filthy leg another."

His looking at her chest didn't bother her too much as he stopped soon enough, but if he did it again, she might have hit him. She might have been 'gifted' but really, staring was just rude. "Also calm down and stop that. I am not your commanding officer and this is not a lair under my control. I am merely... helping."

She lifted a sleeve with her bow. "By chance, have you ever taken these to a tailor?"

Alas, as the instruction came a little late, Zhiqiang's leg was already suitably coated in mud by the time he managed to get to dry ground. However, after staring down at his pant leg with a small grimace, he did quietly grumble, "I'll be sure to keep that in mind for next time. Wait...my fluffy thing is still soft and white, right?!

The panicked-sounding question was rather sudden, and Zhiqiang immediately reached back to feel the fluffy pelt that sat around his shoulders. He combed his fingers through the fur almost lovingly, searching for any knots or dirty spots. When he determined that no harm had come to it, he let out a sigh of relief, turning his head so that he could rub his cheek against it. "Thank goodnesssss, it's still as soft as ever! ...What were we talking about again?" A blank stare and a grin.

He glanced down when he felt something lift his sleeve, nearly missing the question altogether. When he looked up, the expression on his face was one of surprise...but it quickly faded into that stupid grin of his. Lifting a hand, he pointed to himself.

"I'm a tailor."

Fluffy thing? What was he going on about? Giving him a confused look, she watched as he reached back and pet his clothes. We that was certainly unexpected. One didn't... normally pet clothes after all.

She also was not buying the tailor bit. If he was he'd have more care for his clothes. At least that is what she expected. This horseman just... she didn't know anymore, she really didn't. "Indeed, and I am a blacksmith." He lifted the sleeve up again, wrapping it partially around his arm. "You really ought to take it to a tailor." Lan gave him a pointed look. "A real one mind you. Cutting your sleeves or pinning them does not a tailor make you know."

"I am a tailor," He repeated again, a little more insistently this time, flapping both of his arms (and consequently, his sleeves) at the poor horsewoman. This flailing went on for a good few seconds before he suddenly froze, his arms flopping back down into their original position.

"Well, no, I'm an imperial soldier...but I sew so much as a hobby that I may as well be a tailor." He seemed rather proud of this fact and, all things considered, Zhiqiang was pretty good at sewing. In fact, the job as a tailor probably would have suited the eccentric man much better than an imperial soldier, considering the latter was...well, you know, actually expected to do things.

He continued wearing that ridiculous smile on his face when, all of a sudden, he snapped an arm up and pointed at himself. "I'm Zhiqiang. And you're...?"

Again, she stepped back as the flailed about. Yes, those horseman was nuts, crazy to a line she didn't quite understand nor, wish to.

"Well um... yes. You have been trained to be a siolder, not a tailor. That is not one's profession. But if it is a hobby... you might be suited for working on those sleeves of yours before you work on anything else." And learn to keep out of mud. Really, so messy.

As he introduced himself, Zhiqiang got a smile along with a slight bow of her head. "Lan, I am one of the last nobles here in conquest. So if you need anything, I will assist you in whatever way I can."

The question of Zhiqiang's sanity was a mystery, and probably would always be a mystery. There seemed to be a glint of intelligence in his eyes, particularly whenever he earned an exasperated reaction from Lan, but...

...But that could have just been light reflecting off of his eyes whenever he made that freakish, wide-eyed smile...which was pretty much always.

"But I like my sleeves! You're from Conquest--you should understand the elegance of such clothing that the other clans cannot appreciate!" Indeed, all of the other horsemen he had stumbled into recently had all been members of the War clan, and they had all pointed out the impracticality of his sleeves. However, here was Lan, looking as elegant and composed as ever even with her flowing clothing.

A part of Zhiqiang may have been a little envious.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Lan!" He chirped, surprisingly rather polite. However, this was followed by him throwing one of him arms up in the air and obnoxiously declaring, "And if I can take up your offer right now, I need to learn more ways to keep my clothes clean!"

He was just... a bit dim she decided. Not in a bad way but... innocently dim. And possibly crazy. Just a hunch but she didn't think he'd kill her quite yet.

"A little trimming never hurt Zhiqiang. Elegance does not need to be lost for something to be practical." And mud free.

"One, put your arms down, there is no need to keep them up like that unless you intend to catch something. Two, when in battle, you can guide your weapon in a way that keep the blood at a distance. If you use a lance at least. For those of us will bows, it's not so hard. Three, when you do get messy, soaking it in cool water is better than hot. Four-" Smiling she tapped her bow on his nose. "You look where you walk, or ride your mount."

"But I like my sleeves," He protested, lowering his arms so that he could gather up his sleeves in his hands and rub them against his cheek in an affectionate manner, "Look how elegant they are! And they're quite soft as well."

He continued nuzzling his cheek against the sleeves even as Lan gave him a few tips and tricks. The only indication that he may have been listening was the fact that he was watching her as she spoke, going cross-eyed trying to stare at the bow when she tapped him on the nose. "Oh. Oh, okay, so let me get this straight. Umm..."

Zhiqiang suddenly straightened up, folding his arms over his chest. "Keep arms down. Guide weapon to keep blood at distance. Soak in cool water, not hot. And finally...look where you walk! Did I get all that right?" Maybe he wasn't quite as stupid as he seemed!

"I use a bow too! Want to see how good I am at shooting?" And then suddenly he reverted back to that childlike state, bouncing up and down in eagerness.

Yes, she knew that you liked your sleeves but you had to manage them. No point in having things you didn't upkeep. Still from his parroting, it sounded like he got it. Granted he did look a bit dazed and all that. "You can have sleeves just... it might be best they are not that long. Perhaps you can pin them? Then they might no hang so low when you are walking but at other times you might have them loose?"

As he kept going she nodded. "Very good. And... feel free?" She could humor him a bit. He was the soldier after all, not her.
