Asili'issa's legs were burning with the intensity of a thousand suns as he raced away from Pride Rock. His mauve eyes darted around the landscape, searching desperately for a safe haven from the hurricane that awaited him back home. There! In that tree! There was a branch just low enough for the adolescent to grasp onto, and with only minimal flailing he managed to wedge himself into a safe position. Only then did he allow himself to panic.
"He is going to KILL me." Normally, the young male tried to avoid trouble when it came calling, but this time it had been too much for him. His first attempt at flirting had been with a cute little lioness with the prettiest lilac eyes, only to find out later that she already had a mate. Not only that, this mate was twice his size and apparently didn't like that his woman was being complimented.
Issa banged his head against the tree. "Stupid, stupid, stupid..."

Samawati’s golden coat was the perfect camouflage as the Scout napped surrounded by a cluster of tall dry grass blades. His head rose sleepily when he heard someone running past him – honestly, he had almost been stepped on! – and one could tell the lion was ready to bite someone’s head off. That is, until he saw the adolescent that was now banging his head against a tree.
“Asili!” he cried out to his nephew, standing up at once. “Are you alright? Why were you running like that?!” He looked around with a deep frown as if expecting to see someone chasing after the younger lion.
There was an odd history between Samawati and his family but that didn’t stop him from feeling terribly concerned about all matters related to his niece and nephew. They were the only mementos that the yellow lion had from his twin brother, after all.

Issa reared his head back, making sure to efficently pop his back in the process, before banging it one last time on the tree. The normally calm adolescent slumped down onto his branch with an apocalyptic moan. Life as he knew it was over. He hadn't even grown in his mane, and it was already over.
Hearing his name caused him only to turn his head so that he could see where the noise was coming from. "Uncle!" His savior! Surely his Uncle and his friends could fight off that...that brute! Issa practically perched up on his branch like a frightened bird. "He's going to kill me! I flirted with his mate, but I didn't know she was his mate, see, and now-" He slid his claw across his throat.
Like it or not, the boy had that same flare for the dramatic that had got his mother into so much trouble.

“Who is going to… Oh.” It was easy to see where Asili’s story was going. Somehow it didn’t sit well with Samawati to know his brother’s son had made a move on a mated lioness but it was obvious the boy had simply made an innocent mistake. His story was quite different from Samawati’s, downright to the part where the one making the mistake was alive and up for questioning. It still brought forth a flurry of unpleasant memories. “Get down from there and tell me what happened. Slowly. Is her mate chasing you?”
He couldn’t help but to smirk at the younger lion. Look at that. His nephew was all grown and already on his way to embarrass himself because of a girl… as any young male should. Good for him. Samawati supposed that it made sense for him to start showing a more pronounce interest in females. He was at that age, after all. For a moment, his thoughts darted to a particular brown lioness with piercing blue eyes and he quickly pushed them away.

Issa moaned once more before starting the slow process of peeling himself out of his tree. Life was hard. He was just starting to see the intricacies of romance, and already it had left a bitter taste in his mouth. Why were females so...so...weird. They liked to keep their true agenda under wraps until it burned either themselves, or someone else. In his case, that fire could very well be chasing him down right now.
However, his Uncle deserved a better explanation, so it was with a heavy heart that he shimmied his way down to ground level and up to the older lion. He managed to look as aggrieved as he was terrified, creating quite the messed up individual. Issa took a very, very deep breath before starting.
"When I started to go out with the hunting party, I started to talk with Deina. She's really sweet, and has this beautiful laugh, oh, and these eyes-" He caught himself, paused, then continued. "Anyway, she helped me. When we came back, we started spending more time with each other, and I thought I knew everything there was to know about her. So, I was going to surprise her, and stop by her den. I said all these nice things to her to draw her out, but what came out wasn't Deina." With every word, his voice was beginning to slow and gain a tone of the dead. "It was her mate, with Deina behind him. She said something, I guess, but all I could hear was his roar and I ran."

It wasn’t very nice but Samawati couldn’t help but snort at his nephew’s description of the events that had led to the very embarrassing moment that would probably become his most humiliating memory for as long as he lived. But because he too had been drawn to a certain lioness because of her eyes and personality, he could easily relate to the young lion.
“She probably didn’t realize you liked her… sounds like she’s a little older than you.” He remembered when he had been a foolish adolescent chasing after this boy’s mother not that long ago. One of those things he tried very hard not to remember. “It was a honest mistake on your part and it’s not all your fault. And if some idiot can’t see that, than he should be reminded that you have a very large extended family who will not stand still if anything happens to you.” The sight of Rei’s imposing figure, someone who was on good terms with the King and was even mated to one of his sisters, should be more than enough to put any idiot in his place without resorting to violence. Though Samawati himself wouldn’t shy away from a little blood if anyone dared to lay a mark on his nephew.
“That said… you shouldn’t have run, Issa. That was cowardly.” He sat down, his frown easing a little. “You should’ve talked things through and fixed the situation. You know what you have to do, right?”

"She's older than mom." With his ears firmly nestled back on his head, Issa spoke the interesting admission with hesitancy. For an older lioness, she really carried herself well, and was even able to keep a youthful appearance. If his mother knew he'd been chasing after an older female she would have stripped the fur off his back side, regardless of how little he cared for Deina's age.
"Ya, I know." He exhaled deeply, almost as if the very act itself came from his soul. "I didn't know what to do though, you know? He scared the pis- ...life out of me." Issa took a deep breath and straightened himself up. "You're not telling me I have to go back, right? I'd like to live long enough to see adulthood."

Samawati sighed before smiling a little. They looked nothing alike but it seemed he shared more similarities with his nephew that he’d known.
“Well, there was a time when I liked an older lioness, too. I thought she was a Goddess on this world but… let’s just say it didn’t turn out like I expected.” And considering that the lioness in question was the mother of his nephew who he deeply resembled… it was time for a subject change, oh yes.
“Yes, of course. Are you planning on avoiding the pair of them for the rest of your life?” It was difficult to hide his amusement but Samawati did his best to keep a straight face. “They might be hunting or guarding the borders by your side before you know it and there’s no point in holding on to grudges when you have to put our lives in each other's paws. Do you think you’ll need bodyguards for this difficult task?” Ooops, a little friendly sarcasm had managed to slip into his speech it seemed. More serious, perhaps even sternly, he golden lion continued. “Asili’issa. You’re almost an adult. You have to start acting like one.”

Issa paused for a moment, and exhaled a shaky breath. "You too, huh? They're devils. I just don't understand what kind of lioness could do that to yo- oh." Then he remembered. In passing, it was the vague information given about his birth that caused him to look at his paws now. "Sorry."
Going into isolation over the incident seemed like a stupid decision, but at the time it had felt right. Now however....Issa sighed again. "No." He pouted. This taking responsibility thing really sucked. Though what his Uncle said had the wheels in his brain turning. "Hey, now that's an idea! You and your friends could swing by with me so he'll know not to mess with me. I'll be nice, apologize, and get the hell out." He laughed. Perfect! "Samawati, I'm not an adult yet, and you seem to forget that. I am, however, extremely grateful that I have family like you to make me into the adult you want me to be." He smiled for the first time.

Samawati looked a little uncomfortable for a moment. He’d hoped his nephew and niece had never discovered the story behind their birth but it was not a surprise that the gossip had reached their ears… or Ruva had told them, he wasn’t sure. He didn’t like the look on Asili’s face though. He was not to blame for things that had happened before his birth but Samawati didn’t really know how to put his feelings into words.
“Alright, alright. We’ll go with Rei and Iro. Three bodyguards should be quiet enough, don’t you think?” Somewhat awkwardly, he rubbed his nephew’s growing mane with one paw, offering him a little grin. The kids were growing up so quickly. “Do you want to get it done right away?”

"Thank you so much, Uncle." Issa gave a genuine smile, closing one eye as his mane was ruffled. "I probably should, right? I mean, if we wait too long he'll grow even angrier." He shrugged his shoulders. With back up, he didn't worry too much. It just meant that if he got his butt kicked, the other guy would come out so much worse.
"Come on, lets get this over with." The adolescent brushed up against his Uncle before bounding off towards the inner sanctum of the pride.

Samawati stood with a chuckle, feeling a twinge of pride in his chest. “Yes, yes, let’s go.”
“Let’s pick up Akairo on the way and Rei as well. And as many of his kids as we can find.” While his tone was somewhat teasing, it was obvious the golden lion was in a good mood. “Let’s see if anyone dares to raise their voice at you. Don’t get cocky though. If you act like an idiot, we’ll leave you alone before you can scream uncle!” he laughed as he followed after his nephew. - FIN -
