If it weren't his duty, Yayuka might not be here today. His paw was recovered enough, though, and it's not like lacking an ear meant he couldn't fight. But he just... wasn't in the mood today. Really. But ever the dutiful lion, he showed up as told. It's not like it was even proper for a firekin to avoid duels!
It was one of those rogue duels. He didn't quite like the idea, last time he'd fought an outlander... well, he'd lost his ear. But any practice was welcome, perhaps if he had a bit more skill to back up his bravery, or valiance, or determination, or whatever, he might not have lost the ear.
Suure. Yayuka wouldn't say he was a pathetic fighter. In the roguelands, he'd held his own very often! Perhaps he'd just fallen into a horribly unlucky string since arriving here at the desert. Maybe he could change that today. He sat down, and waited for the rogue to show up.

It was time. Finally time.
It had taken Ayhas every moment up to know to determine where she was destined to be, where to settle herself and now, she wished to reside along those born of fire and sand. She grinned, licking her lips. She relished in the idea of it. Fire in their spirits and hearts, in their blood. She would prove she had what it was worth to become one of them. She had heard rumors of some war coming this way, and knew with the strength acquired training during her lifetime after the plague had taken her family, that she was meant to survive, meant to become strong.
She was meant to be a warrioress.
Coming to the broder she saw a lone male, and reared her head and roared out to him, acknowledging his presence, and also, demanding a duel, a fight for her right.
She was here and she was ready.

A bit of a dramatic entrance, he noted, quietly. Some lions had a tendency to be very dramatic, though. It was just a quality he didn't share. Maybe he should strive for that a bit more... Or actually get started with the fight. He rolled his shoulders, and flexed his injured paw.
Really, it was healed now, but the damage was obvious. Scarred all over, fur growing out in weird angles, and one of his toes even looked a little deformed. Beneath, his pads looked even worse. But it was now as functional as it may ever be, and didn't bleed. And barely hurt, not enough to complain about.
Right, the fight. He answered her roar with one of his own, though he perhaps didn't come off quite as passionate. He stepped closer and crouched lower. No immediate move to attack, she could go first.

So, he was hesitating. She herself rolled her shoulders and spit to the ground, grinning at him. She watched him for a moment, eyed his body, noted a scarred part on his paw. Pretty bad she noted. She was a warrior in heart, but that meant no only to look for weakness, but to also show honor to another. She would not hurt that area, he had seen enough pain with it. Coming to terms with scars and healing was harder than leaving blows and bruises.
Ayhas came closer, crouching down, letting her paws feel the sand and when close enough, she surged forward, she moved quickly on the sand and when close enough went for his legs.
Not to grasp with claws, but to go under him and knock them out from under his belly to make him hit the sand.

Yayuka had been expecting a blow to the head, because for some reason he always imagined someone would go for the head. Maybe because his brother always had, until he died. So when she came close he was a bit too slow to react, and she rather successfully caused him to fall to the sand.
To his credit, he didn't stay down long enough to get pinned. Once he had fallen over, he more or less rolled with it, right back onto all fours. He launched forwards at her, attempting to hit the lioness before she got too far.
But ultimately failing, his paws clamping down on the sand where she had been just moments ago. Darn!

"Uh, uh, too slow," Ayhas said moving quickly on the sand. The way she moved made it seem like she had been born on the sand, lived on it all her life, and the sand was breathing and moving under her to help her gain the upper paw. "Watch, you must be quick," Ayhas said crouching running up making it look like she was going to body slam him right in the chest, but again, she went down even lower, slid in the sand, and kocked into all of his legs and sid out from beneath him.
She circled around him again, her tail fluff tapping him on the nose, "Come now, show me what you can do," her eyes, strange colored as they were, were vibrant and focused on him.
She wouldn't let him get the upper paw if she could help it.

He was frustrated as, once again, she tricked him. He really should have known better. At least this time he didn't hit the ground, managing to actually step over her... sort of. She did knock out two paws, but Yayuka caught himself with the others.
"I don't need to be taught by you." He replied, but knew better than to get worked up about it. He was aware that he wasn't doing too hot, but the only problem about losing was if you let it get to you. Or, you know, losing in a battle, in which case you might end up dead.
He wrinkled his nose at the tail, and didn't appreciate the mockery. He considered snapping back with something about being so quick on a paw like his, ultimately deciding against it. That would be whining. But he did crouch lower, she would not trip him up again.

As he crouched lower, she smiled at him. Ahh, so he was quick to learn things if given the chance. Good, good. Ayhas could be a little hard, a little cold, but she did like aiding others when given the chance. If she were to be kin with this male, he needed to be well at this, for she might entertain a spar or two at a later time.
Although close to the ground she had to consider her options now.
Face, back, ribs, hmm.
She needed to prove her strength, not brutality. So she went for him and tried hitting her side against his, even to slide him in the sand, try to break him of the low fortress he created.

At least Yayuka could say he was stronger. Though it was a solid hit, she was somewhat lighter than he was, and her attack was simply not that well focused. The force wasn't enough to wind him, or even earn much more than a slight grunt. But, he did give away easily enough. Suspiciously easily.
He hoped her momentum would work in his favor. In stepping away a bit early, Yayuka meant for her to simply go a bit further than imagined. She was quick, but an unbalance lion was an unbalanced lion.
He wasn't in position to knock her off her feet, as she seemed intent on doing with him, but he was perfectly poised to smack her in the face with his good paw. For your insolence! he heard his mind's voice saying, suspiciously like his mother, when angered. It was almost funny.

As a paw came to her face she felt the sting and she snarled in response her jaw opening trying to grasp his paw. She reacted quickly, but not quick enough to take it in her jowls and bite down. How dare he! After she had shown him a kindness by refraining from going for his injury.
She snarled at him, taking a few steps back, her eyes narrowed, fur bristling, and was angry, angered, and well beyond pissed off, in a manner of speaking.
She went for him again and this time, as she neared, she dropped to the ground, used her forelegs to help flips her over and drove her rear legs and paws up to his face wanting to use all the strength she had to hit him square in the jaw.

She seemed angry. He wasn't completely sure why he thought that, but just that snarl, and the way she tried to bite him. He wondered if he had actually managed to piss her off, and comforted himself with the knowledge that he had been the 'better lion', if only in a very minor way.
Her next attack was a little weird, but certainly surprised him. She was a little off her intended mark, and it was even a bit of her own fault. When she went down to the ground again, Yayuka had assumed she was going to try and trip him once again, so he was rearing, preparing to step over her.
Instead, her hind paws hit him squarely in the chest. That one had much more strength in it than the last attack, and was much better focused. So as Yayuka dropped onto his paws beside her, and trotted a few paces away, Ayhas would definitely hear him cough. Yes, that would definitely bruise.
He was far enough away from her now to avoid a surprise hit, which really shouldn't happen. The fight was over. But she might be a little worked up, so Yayuka kept himself ready, just in case she kept coming.
"You were good," His voice was initially a bit wheezy, but it seemed to gain strength as he went on. "You're in. I'll take you to see the regents." The black and white female had struck him as rather confident on her own, so he didn't feel the need to sound too congratulatory. Besides, it wasn't like Yayuka liked losing, he was not likely to sound excited about it. At least he managed not to sound disappointed.

He removed himself, and he better! For such an act of..dishonor, to slap someone in the face, even in the midst of battle. But this was a duel. She huffed at him, and with his words, she raised her head, a pride in her eyes, and she smirked at him. She sighed relief, and wonder, now that the next chapter was about to begin.
She was firekin.
A war was coming.
She was ready.
She went up to him, looked to his chest, his face, winked, and turned to walk with him, but not before letting her tail fluff tap him on the face again, just so she could have the very last hit of the day.
This was wondrous.

Ugh, that stupid tail. He quietly wanted to bite it off. Yayuka wrinkled his nose. "You're just sore that I hit you." It was a quite amusing notion, really! She had hit him much more, and was all unhappy about getting whacked. Females! Maybe he did like her a bit, though. She seemed lighthearted, and that was nice. She even reminded him a bit of Aithne.
He liked Aithne more, though, for reasons. He had yet to figure out what reasons, because Aithne wasn't really very nice to him, either. But still. With a shrug, he picked up the pace. He didn't have much motivation to gentlemanly lead her inland, she could surely figure it out for herself, but he'd look dumb just... standing there as she trotted off. So he kept up beside her, a comfortable distance between the two of them.
