Shikai Release Appearance: The shortsword glows white hot before exploding in a blaze of white fire to reveal the zanbato.

Shikai Ability: Her sword always burns with white fire that if seen causes the viewer to go blind. This effect operates as an "obstruction of vision", and lasts until the sword is sealed once more. This fire consists only of light, and does not emit heat.
Attacks:
1. Mega Strength (passive effect) - She gains strength to match all but the very strongest of foes
2. Clairvoyance (passive effect) - Zanzo gains a light based echolocation power using the light shed by the white fire, giving her a spatial awareness of any surface that light touches.
3. Unraveling Strike - Zanzo can charge her sword to deliver a strike that scrambles, disrupts, and weakens spiritual constructs (such as cero, kido, quincy arrows, etc.) allowing her to either break them or bat them away.

Bankai Attacks:
1. Blade of Aether (passive effect): The blade passes through all non-sentient obstructions. This does not include zanpakuto. Zanzo can will this ability to stop for a short time.
2. Soul flare: Zanzo slams the blade into a surface, causing white fire to explode in a straight line along that surface to damage and blind opponents.
3. Flame Reconstitution: The flames that form the blade die out, and burst into existence in the hand of Zanzo's choice. Cannot be used to summon the blade inside a foe.
Combat skills: Zanzo is a master of zanjutsu, but possesses only basic skill in Hakuda.
Shunpo: Zanzo is proficient in shunpo to an acceptable captain level.

Personality:
Zanzo: She maintains the airs of a dignified official, avoiding rash reactions and displays of emotion in favor of a calmer approach. Spends her leisure time writing calligraphy and drawing ink paintings, something she is well known for (just one of her works is worth a huge amount of money in the seireitei). In battle, she seems to almost dance as she destroys foes with display after display of brute force while maintaining her flowing style. She holds grudges for a very long time, devoting time and effort to spite those whom enrage her. She's known to make other captains nervous, considering how she gained her captaincy. She is often annoyed at her terrible eyesight, needing to use reading glasses just to make out words on paper. Although she would rather die than admit it, she has night terrors.
Seigi: Seigi is an odd bird even by zanpakuto standards. He seems to balance Zanzo's cold demeanor by being loud, flamboyant, and impulsive. His central philosophy in life is that justice is the greatest pursuit in life. He believes that since the good guys always win, and good guys represent justice, the winners are the just. His softest volume is a shout, and he tends to dance around in place.
Biography Before Death: She was the focus for a cult her entire life, being set up as an oracle of god. When her parents, whom ran the cult, died, she was brutalized and abused as the cult turned into one that advocated the doing of evil deeds to purify the world. These cultists would "eject" the evil into her at the end of each week, one after another; drugs of questionable sources were also given to her in less than safe quantities, slowly driving her insane. She eventually gained control of the cult, and drove its members to do more and more cruelties until they were found out. She died in one of the many gunfights that happened in the aftermath.
Biography After Death: She was sent to soul society by a shinigami shortly after death (busy day, that one). The transition from life to death, and the discovery of just how much she had been wrong, tempered her madness. She entered the academy to become a shinigami as both penance for past misdeeds and a second chance at "life". She abandoned her old name and took the name she was often called by her peers, keeping her title in life as her family name. After 68 years of service as a shinigami, she challenged her taichou with seemingly no explanation. She won the match by decapitating him in front of the required crowd of witnesses, and was said to have muttered under her breath, "Now we're even", prompting many rumors of a falling out between them prompting the fight. Unfortunately, it seems that only Zanzo knows the truth behind the matter now, and nobody has been dumb enough to ask.
