Prom. Despite not being much of a dancer, prom was the one event that Xiu had been looking forward to the whole year. She had enrolled in Amityville exactly one year prior, having just made it in time to attend the First Annual Amityville Prom. While the baku was not one for the whole "bring a date" aspect of the dance--nothing beyond a platonic date for herself, at least--she had come to learn what a wonderful event it was for socializing. If anything, that was the only reason Xiu went at all: to meet new friends, and make more memories with her current ones.
Of course, with the dance coming up, that meant that everyone was scrambling to find the perfect outfit to wear. Xiu was not so worried about the dress--as per usual, her doting uncle had offered to sew her something nice--but she was concerned about the masquerade aspect of this year's prom. How was she supposed to pick out a nice mask?
When the baku arrived at the maul that Spooksday, she realized that it would have been wise if she had brought a friend to accompany her on her shopping trip. There was not only the matter of getting a much-needed second opinion, but she had somehow (somehow) forgotten how jam-packed the mauls were around this time. The stores that sold formal wear were filled with excited, chattering students, and there were quite a few customers milling around the mask store as well.
Needless to say, the sight of so many people made the petite ghoul balk. She may have been able to brave the crowd has she dragged someone with her, but alone, diving in seemed all the more intimidating. Her tapir-shaped ears drooped slightly as she took a step back, effectively bumping right into someone who had either been standing or passing by behind her.

Chryses Aurelius was, admittedly, fairly new to Amityville Academy. He was also not the most social of demons, unless he had to be, and so he was (blissfully) unaware of the preparations for prom. He had come tot he maul that Spookday for a completely different reason; that is, to expand his Treat collection a bit.
Yes, Chryses had a secret love for all things cute and fluffy. So he was a bit more tense than usual, even if he had yet to actually pick up one of the bundles of floof. There was no reason for people to start thinking he was a softie before they'd even met him.
Perhaps that's why he was even more snappish than usual when the odd ghoul with the tapir ears bumped into him.
"You should check before you just step back," he said, rather harshly. It was nastier than was even vaguely needed, but anyone who said Chryses was a friendly person was telling you lies.

Xiu realized her mistake the moment she felt the impact, though it was the harshness of the stranger's tone that made her whirl around at lightning speed. She didn't even look at him before clasping her hands in front of her and dropping into a low bow. "M...my apologies! I did not mean to be so careless. Are you alright?"
No serious harm done, she hoped, but he clearly hadn't sounded very happy. She remained in her bowing position for a few seconds longer before lifting her head, casting a curious look up towards the boil...and then she frowned. It was not so much an unpleasant frown rather than one that someone wore when they were confused. Slowly, Xiu straightened back up so that she could look at the boil properly. "You're..." Brows knit together, she tilted her head to the side. He looked somewhat familiar somehow--
"--Ah! You're a student at Amityville, right?" The baku's eyes brightened immediately, the corners of her lips quirking upwards in a smile. That was where she had seen him--she had spotted him in the halls while passing through one day. While Xiu was not usually one to remember someone who she had seen in the passing, she did remember those horns of his.
Perking up, she cast a glance over her shoulder at the mask store before turning back to the demon. "Could it be that you're here to purchase a mask for prom as well?"Songstress Kitsune /o/ Hope you're okay at being tagged via quotes! <33 Please let me know if you prefer over PM/IM/something else idk XD <33

Chryses's expression shifted from annoyed to an odd blend of that and, mostly, confusion. The apology was nice, but the bowing was...a little over the top.
"I'm alright," he acknowledged grudgingly, crossing his arms. His eyebrows floated up as she examined him, but he said nothing, simply letting her put the pieces together on her own. Curses, recognized.
"Yes, I started recently. Just after the last field trip." He admitted. Her sudden change in demeanor had him off balance. This was why he voided social interaction. She'd gone from apologetic to cheerful in an instant and oh curses, this was looking to be an extended conversation. Terrible.
And then she mentioned prom. It was only through much control that his expression didn't indicate pure horror. "Prom?" His tone was querying. Of course, he knew what one was in the abstract. Social gathering, teenagers, uncomfortable, lots of talking, dancing, expectations of romance or whatnot...Definitely not Chryses's type of activity. He had no idea Amityville was having one, and he was fairly certain he'd been happier before he knew.Kaiyumi Tagging by quote is perfect! =DDD <3

Indeed, he did not seem like the most...chipper of fellows, but he didn't seem nearly as hostile as some of the other people she had met. She nodded when he confirmed that he was new, only to freeze at the mention of the field trip. "Ah, so you..." Well then. She wasn't sure how much he knew of the field trip, but he must have noticed all the clanspeople living around Halloween these days. There was no reason to bring up such a depressing matter with someone she had just met anyways.
His reaction to the mention of prom puzzled her, but despite that, the small smile was still visible on the baku's face. "Yes, it's Amityville's second annual prom." She explained, before peering up at him with round eyes, "You...will be attending, right?"
Considering how much personal importance Xiu felt for the event--especially since the first prom had been the real start of all her friendships--the ghoul was surprised by the possibility of anyone skipping out. Rather than pursue the conversation any further though, she decided that there was a very important thing that had to be done. Clasping her hands in front of herself again, she dipped down in another bow, albeit one that was much smaller and more shallow than the last.
"I'm Xiuying, a third year student. And you are...?"

Chryses frowned. There was something she wasn't talking about. No one talked about that field trip. Even without being social, he knew enough to know that it had not ended well. But there was no point pressing. He wasn't particularly nosy, and it had yet to affect him, so he didn't particularly care other than giving the Horseman territories a wide berth.
"I wasn't planning to." He said bluntly. And he wasn't. "It really isn't my sort of event." Lots of people. Loud music. No.
He gave her a polite nod.
"Chryses Aurelius. You already know I'm a first year." Oh, lovely, his first encounter with a fellow student and real conversation, and she was a third year.Kaiyumi VALIANT ATTEMPT TO NOT SUCK AT TAGGING ;;

"A pleasure to meet you, Chryses!" Xiu was always pleased to meet new people, and this demon--however grumpy he seemed--was no exception. It was a little odd to think that she was a senior to the older and more refined looking boil in front of her (or at least, he didn't look like a tiny 5'2" ghoul like she did), but like any good upperclassman, she smiled at him and chirped, "Please let me know if you have any questions or trouble at school, okay?"
That being said, the baku couldn't help but wilt slightly at his answer about prom, her pink eyes growing round and her tail drooping. "Are you certain? I thought much the same last year, but it turned out to be more enjoyable than I thought." That, and Junko--and the rest of the student council--had been working hard to plan the event. Xiu was going to do her best to encourage everyone to attend!
"It's a masquerade theme this year," She added hopefully, gesturing towards the store in front of them, "And it would not be as if you are obligated to stay if it doesn't interest you." Chryses hatd dealing with people as nice and cheerful as Xiu, it was disarming, and far more difficult to brush them off. Especially since she was his senior and therefore deserved at least a small modicum of what passed for respect with him.
"Thank you for the offer," he said. He honestly wasn't,t all that much taller than her, 5'4" or thereabouts and therefore shorter than most students. Wearing shoes with lifts was his usual solution.
Oh dear Jack not the sad eyes. There was not a boil in Halloween who was built to resist a ghoul making the sad eyes, not even someone usually as hardened as Chryses.
"...I suppose I could at least attend for a few minutes, see what it's all about." It wasn't caving when she cheated, right? Because those eyes were totally cheating. He turned and blinked. "Ah, then, perhaps I should pick something up." Kaiyumi weihfbwefn My internets ran awaaay D: Stupid derecho D<

...Ah. Ah, he had accepted! The ghoul visibly brightened up, her lips spreading into a smile as her tail waved behind her. "That's great! It'd be good to see what an Amityville prom is like, even once, right?" If he dropped by and determined that it wasn't his kind of thing, then Xiu certainly wasn't going to push the matter. She knew that proms weren't everyone's kind of thing, but so long as they dropped by a little while to gauge the event for themselves, she had no complaints.
At the mention of picking something up, the baku nodded, turning to eye the store with a hint of apprehension on her face. "Yes, I wanted to get a mask as well, though the store is rather...busy today, isn't it?" With every flood of students that crowded out of the store, another crowd was quick to replace it.
...Welp.
"...Mind accompanying me in, then? I can help you find a mask, and, uh..." And while she would not admit it aloud, it would be a little less unnerving diving into that group if she had someone with her.Songstress Kitsune adifkljrfdhj I'M SORRY I had to focus on my summer classes so I kind of dropped off of Gaia for a while OTL

"It certainly can't hurt," Chryses acknowledged. There, sad eyes gone, crisis averted. He was fairly certain it would indeed end up not being his thing, but he could certainly go at the very least.
Oh, when she pointed it out, the store certainly was very busy. That was not going to be an enjoyable experience, so many people all crowded in the store. "All likely planning to do the same thing we are," he said, rather obviously.
It would be cruel and unfair not to go on with her, and he'd managed to make nice so far. Why not continue the trend. "Yes, I will accompany you." Besides, there was a benefit to this. Chryses certainly hadn't put much thought into what kind of mask he would wear. Miss Xiu could help him out, which was useful.
Also, large groups were less scary with someone else, bit he would never admit that much aloud.Kaiyumi I have no idea why I chose to take a full load for summer classes ermagerd -RP drive saaaaapppeeddd-

If Xiu knew what power puppy eyes held, she probably would have done it more often. However, regardless of why he had agreed to go, Xiu was simply happy that the boil was willing to give it a try (and she was admittedly relieved that she had someone to venture into the busy shop with). She emitted a little sigh as she turned to look at the shop, lifting a hand to cup her cheek. "Y-yes. Honestly, I should have picked a better time to buy a mask, but...ah. I hope I haven't inconvenienced you too much by asking you to accompany me?" After all, Chryses must have come to the maul for his own reasons. He hadn't even intended on attending prom until she had insisted on it, nevermind struggling against a huge crowd just to find a mask.
...Maybe it would be best if she were the one to pay for his mask as an apology for sidetracking him and a thank you for even agreeing.
"W-well then! Shall we?"
Squaring her shoulders, the small ghoul ventured forward, trying to resist the urge to balk as she got closer and closer to the crowd. She tried her best to clear a small path for herself and Chryses to get through, glancing over her shoulder every so often to ensure that she hadn't lost the boil among all the other students.
She let out a little sigh of relief once they had made it inside, but the buzz of chatter from around them made it necessary for her to speak up when she turned to address him. "Are there any particular colors that you are fond of, Chryses? Let's see if we can find you something that will suit you!"Songstress Kitsune I-I know what you mean ;__; Summer courses are so tiring, ahhhh. ;; My RP drive is about 100x better when it's school time than when it's the summer :TTT

Chryses frowned a bit. Goodness, that really was quite the sea of people. But ah well, he had agreed to go to the blasted masquerade and he needed a mask. And really, how bad could it possibly be?
"Not too much inconvenience, no," he said. He hadn't made it to the minipet shop, but perhaps that was for the best. With this many people in the maul, it was not unlikely he might be recognized later, and he so hated feeling like he had to sneak poor, innocent little Treats out under his jacket.
"Ah, let's go, then," he agreed, following her through the path she'd made. He might have stepped on a few toes or bumped others, but apparently something in his affect kept the protests down to a minimum. Or perhaps he simply couldn't be perfectly pinpointed as the source.
"Colors?" There was something he hadn't put much thought into. "Hmm. Oranges and blues, actually," he thought aloud. Most of his clothes ended up somewhere in that range. Kaiyumi So vacations to places where I only have my cell phone are terrible things sometimes. But at least summer school is over!

It was a relief for her to hear that she wasn't imposing too much on the boil, but she still turned briefly to offer him a sheepish and apologetic smile. His assurance still didn't quite take away from the fact she had interrupted any plans he may have had for the day, but...
"Oranges and blues. Got it!" Turning to look at the masks hung up along all the walls of the shop, Xiu narrowed her eyes thoughtfully before reaching up and gently pulling one of them off. "This one is kind of nice?" She offered, holding it up for him to examine. And heck if he didn't like that one...there were a ton of others that they could sift through and try on.
Xiu examined some of the ladies masks that were available as well, her gaze sweeping over them as she searched for any with red and black color schemes. There were a couple of nice ones, but...ugh. Some of the more extravagant masks, she had noticed, had price tags high enough to make anyone cringe. The demon could excuse herself spending that much if it were a gift for someone, but for some reason, the idea of paying that much for a something for herself was...
Well, at least it reminded her to mention something. "Ah--and don't worry about the price tag if you find something that you like. I'll pay for your mask as thanks for accompanying me!" Songstress Kitsune Yay for no more summer classes! I just finished too, so I'm finally more on top of my RPs *___* <333 .../o/ AND IDK WHAT HIS ACTUAL MASK LOOKED LIKE but mask shopping, yup.

Something closely approaching a smile crossed Chryses's face as he examined the masks on display. Some of them were quite elegant, and would go well with the suit he was fairly certain to wear.
He examined the one Xiu held out, and a real grin crossed his face. "You have an excellent eye, miss Xiu, I think this will do nicely." Oh yes, the Greeed Demon was very pleased with it. Elegant, but not overly ostentatious, and fairly easy to match with anything he might choose to wear. Very, very nice.
Now, the charitable thing to do would be to help her with her own shopping. Chryses Aurelius was not often charitable, but he could manage it every once in a while. "What are you looking for?" He asked casually, examining the ladies' masks.
Her offer to pay for his was met with a nod. "I much appreciate the offer, miss." He could certainly afford it, and some might have argued the point, but, well, he was never one to pass up a chance not to spend his own money.Kaiyumi SOMEDAY I WILL TAG IN A TIMELY MANNER. Xiu's eyes widened slightly as she looked up at Chryses from behind the mask that she was holding up for him. My my...was that a smile? No...a grin, even? Considering how grumpy the boil had seemed when she first met him, Xiu had assumed that he was one of those serious, unsmiling types. After all, he wouldn't have been the first one of those she met--her "big brother", another student at the school, was such a fellow who rarely smiled.
Finding herself emitting a little laugh, she offered him a bright smile and a tailwag. "Excellent! I think this one will suit you quite well." That had been easy--she had gotten lucky to pick up such a nice one on the first try. Holding the mask carefully in her arms, she turned to examine the other masks with a thoughtful hum.
"Oh, me? I'm...looking for something that is black and red, and...um..." She trailed off, but only so that she could dig around in her obi and retrieve her eyephone. Flipping through her pictures, she held the phone up for the other demon to see.
"My uncle already made me my dress, so I'm hoping to find something that will match! Though while there are some that are close..." She frowned, knitting her brows with worry as she ran her fingers over some of the other masks. There were plenty of red and black masks, but for some reason, they just didn't seem to match with what she had in mind. Some--like the ones that were studded with crystals--seemed too extravagant, while others--such as the ones decorated with huge ostrich feathers--were a little too...fancy for the small ghoul.
