-//Silver Artemis' Anima__.

This lantern has been entrusted to Silver Artemis. I only hope that she will be able to further my knowledge of the Anima through her guardianship of the soul that will emerge from this lantern.

I sighed for the umpteenth time this morning, staring at the silent and immobile lantern in front of me.

It stared back.

I'm not even sure how the lantern came into my possession. Last night's events are a little hazy. All I remember is being drunk (again... oh geez I gotta stop) and then coming across an old-fashioned Japanese house. I went in and...

... um ...

Well, I'm assuming that I got the lantern there, and came home. Well, at least I got home all right... I'm not exactly known for my clear thinking while drunk. An awesome example of my lack of thinking clearly while drunk would be one night a few weeks ago... I ended up trying to break into someone's apartment down the block, thinking it was my own. They nearly charged me.

Anyway, back to the issue of the lantern. What the hell was I supposed to do with it?

"You know, I could just throw you out," I said to the lantern pointlessly. The stupid lantern obviously wasn't going to respond.

I thought over what I just said. Wait... would I actually throw out the lantern? It was actually quite a pretty lantern, glowing purple and... whoa, glowing purple? Wow, that livens up my crappy apartment quite a bit. I imagined bragging about the pretty lantern to everyone.

"Ok, so I won't throw you out." I felt like a moron for talking to a lantern, but then, I don't have many people to talk to. It wasn't like I had a roommate or anything. I lived in a puny one-roomed apartment. The bathroom was cramped, the living room was a mess (the bedrom was even worse), but the kitchen was stupidly large. Whoever made the plan for this suite must have been an idiot. Or, they just weren't familiar with my needs.

"Well, it's not like I can afford anything else." I said to the lantern. "So you'll have to deal with the lack of space... and lack of visitors, too... thankfully."

It's true... I am a rather antisocial person. Sure, I get calls from my family, but that doesn't count. I have a handful of rather close friends, but that's all.

"But then, they're all busy with their jobs and planning for their future careers."

I stared some more at the lantern.

"I take on several part time jobs, none of which bring much income."

I really, really felt like a moron.

"I could be looking for a better job on monster.ca or something, but nooo, since I'm a loser I think I'll just talk to you..."

Stupid as it felt, the company of the lantern was rather pleasant.

I was still sleepy and tired.

I did not want to get out of bed. I did not want to go to work... the past week had been hell, working in a summer camp program with kids. Ugh. They're loud, annoying, but I have to be nice anyway. Erk... the nice part was that... well, at least I could eat for free there. The cafeteria food is mediocre, but still. Free food is free food.

I turned my head to stare at my alarm clock. Seven o'clock in the freaking morning! In my opinion, no sane person would get up earlier than noon during summer. Not saying I'm sane, just... you know.

The lantern sat on the bedside table. Over the week, I had found myself more and more attached to the pretty lantern. It still softly glowed purple. My eyes travelled from the top to the thin, translucent lavender diamond I had pasted on it. Hey, I was bored, can't blame me for trying to liven it up a little more.

I felt drawn to the lantern, strangely. Just what was it? How'd it come into my possession? Maybe I'd check out that house again... if I could find it.

I finally sat up. Another day of hell.

I dragged myself around my apartment, armed with a can of Coke and bored beyond belief. I re-explored the already explored, passing through the stupidly enormous kitchen, rummaging through the cupboards to find nothing but canned food, ramen, and mac and cheese. I re-discovered my bathroom and living room, and actually found a CD player/radio (I had no idea I had one). Nevertheless, I turned it on and tuned the radio into Z103.5 FM (naturally, I had no CDs... well, at least I couldn't find them at the moment). Feeling a little better, I went into my bedroom, picking my path among the clothes, books, papers, and other junk strewn across the floor.

"I think I should probably clean this place up a bit," I said, putting my Coke down on the dresser. Guess I'll start by organizing my closet. I picked up random articles of clothing up and threw them on my bed, where I'd collect them later to wash. Bending down to move a pile of old clothes from the bottom of my closet, I noticed something black poking out. Pushing aside all the junk, I came eye-to-top with none other than my old, crappy, forgotten laptop.

Still, I was pretty excited. Sure, this thing was s**t and slow as hell... what the heck. It would give me something to do, even if it was just solitaire.

I pulled it out from amongst the rubbish, and grabbed the wires and plugs it was sitting on. I plugged it into the outlet in the wall and turned it on, sipping Coke as it loaded. When I came to the log in page, I panicked, but after a moment it clicked. I typed in the password, relieved to find that it was correct.

At first I didn't know what to do from there, but then it occured to try to connect to the internet. I wasn't sure if it'd work or not, but I started up the wireless network connection. Haha, I was stealing something else's connection. But after a few seconds of loading-- bam! I was connected!!

I was automatically logged onto AIM. I was surprised when a chat window popped up.

gorachichai: YOOOOO biggrin DDD
AkaSakiChan: HEEEYYYYY <333
gorachichai: where the fsk have you been?!!! ;;;;
AkaSakiChan: sorry! :<
AkaSakiChan: been pretty busy lately... and i completely forgot about my crappy laptop. :B

gorachichai: my parents just called saying they'll pay for my tuition. ;;
AkaSakiChan: O_O! you lucky biznatch!
gorachichai: xDD;; -hasn't been working-
gorachichai: anyway, i have to go. :B
AkaSakiChan: aww. kk, see you! <33
gorachichai: <3

I sighed. Chai was so lucky. Getting her tuition paid by someone else.
"Damn... I wish someone would pay my rent." I was silent for a moment.

"When the hell am I getting that paycheck, anyway?!"

accessorization quest!__.

Lonely little butterfly... flying all by itself... I wonder if it ever gets bored? Maybe you should get something nice and interesting for it to play with and look at. A change of scenery is always good.
