User ImageAnother day without much meaning. Halvdan wandered the roguelands with no particular goal in mind. He wasn't hungry at the moment so he didn't have to hunt or steal something to eat. He might do it anyway just to have something to do. Or lie down to preserve energy... He was leaner now than when he had left his pride. It seemed so long ago.

He could probably find his way back if he tried, but the circumstances of his "disappearance" were nothing to be proud of. Spirited away by a pretty lioness... That didn't sound good, even if she had been hot stuff. And even if he had hit that. He was pretty sure he had hit that at least. Damn those mermaids and their mind altering drugs.

User Image The band had taken a small clearing to regroup and access the situation, and Don had been chosen to take a small patrol of the area. He did not mind the work, nor the time away from the band of reavers, and so was quick to be off on his task. His patrol was a simple one, rounding the area completely and then moving further back to once more make a complete circle. So far his scouting had gotten him nothing but quiet, and his claws were aching for blood. He wasn't exactly accustomed to boredom on this Viking, as many interesting things had happened, so he wasn't sure if he trusted the silence.

The golden lion remained on his patrol, rounding a cluster of acacia trees and pausing to glance in every which direction. He had expected to see nothing at all, perhaps some small grazing animals, but certainly not another grown lion in the distance. Don, not particularly in a brawling mood, began his approach in a more neutral state of mind. Time to find out what this guy was up to out here.

Halvdan wasn't as alert as a lion out on his own should be, and as a result Don managed to get quite close before he realised he had company. He turned towards the stranger, not recognising him as Stormborn. Halvdan had no reason to be hostile, but old habits die hard, and the grey male had never really been good at subtle. He turned towards the other male, tense and seemingly ready to strike if he would need to.

"Someday I will kill you," he said in a dangerous voice. That was usually enough to either scare away another wandering rogue, or provoke a fight. He had learnt that outsiders didn't understand the Stormborn way of living and talking, but sometimes he got a good fight out of it. Gods, he was bored.

Luck seemed to be on his side. Don was a large lion, and stealth wasn't exactly something that came to him easily, so when he managed to not draw attention to himself until much closer in, he couldn't help but feel some small bit of satisfaction. Maybe this 'scouting' thing wasn't so difficult after all. Ah, wait. Drat! Spotted before he could get any closer the pale golden lion tensed as well. His muscles taunt and ready to lunge him forward if need be, and that would have been the case with the lion's threatening tone, but Don could not help a knee-jerk reaction. "Not today." The phrase was simple, but something he had started saying since he joined the Stormborn.

This was... unexpected. Don was hesitant to go on the attack, quirking a brow at the lion and his odd phrase. He didn't think anyone outside of the pride would use those words specifically in a threat. Wary, the golden brute edged to the side to walk slowly in a semi-circle, keeping his ruby eyes on the other male. "You've got iron in your blood, Stranger. Care to explain yourself?" Don was indeed curious, but even if he was half-way tempted to believe an inkling of an idea as to this lion's origin, he knew the Stormborn to be battle-ready fighters. Don was not letting his guard down regardless of the circumstances.

Halvdan was just as surprised to get that answer as Don was to hear the phrase. This was not someone he remembered from the Stormborn, but then he hadn't been home in a while. This lion talked like a Stormborn, but perhaps with a bit of outland accent. It was not the reaction he had expected, but after a moment of silence he gathered his wits and answered.

"I do," he confirmed, "And so did my father. What of it?"

So he confirmed it then, this lion was of Stormborn blood, but what was he doing all the way out here, by himself? Don slowed his pacing to come a strop just in front of the other male, ruby eyes calculating for a moment more. He did not recognize this guy, but then Don was new, and there were probably a lot of members of the pride he had yet to see. "Then you are Stormborn?" Anyone else in the band probably would have been better suited for this, Don realized, as there was no way of actually being able to confirm this lion's identity without having an actual long-term member here to do so.

His tail swished impatiently out behind him, this was quite annoying. "I didn't think there would be another Viking going on alongside ours, where's your band?" And better yet, why was this guy alone? Unless he was scouting like Don was. After all, it would be strange to encounter just a single lone reaver out here in the wilderness. Maybe not entirely unheard of, but Don was still new to the ways of the pride.

So this was another Stormborn out a-viking. Halvdan wasn't sure how he felt about being "found". While the circumstances of him getting lost from his own Viking was embarrassing, it gave him a way to go back home without too much embarrassment. And he wouldn't have to tell the whole story, right?

"I am Stormborn," he confirmed, "You must have earned your place after I departed with my band."

He would have to give some kind of explanation, however. His band had hopefully returned, but he couldn't know for sure.

"I left our homeland some time ago," he rumbled, "I can not say how much time has passed since then. But I got separated from the rest of my band out here, and couldn't find them again when I finally managed to get back to the area where I lost them. My hope is that they managed to get back home without me, but if not I'm sure they died in glorious battle!"

Don nodded at that, this was one of his first outings as a reaver, and he was still getting use to pride life. "That's likely the case, I haven't been with the Stormborn for long." It was entirely feasible that he didn't recognize or even know the entirety of who was in the pride, and likewise someone whose been with them longer wouldn't know him.

Ah, okay. From the way this guy talked to what he knew of the pride and their ways, he was definitely Stormborn. Whatever that may have still lingered in Don's posturing dissipated and the dull golden lion seemed almost aloof as he listened to Halvdan give his explanation. That made sense, and Don had no means to question the story. "Surely," Don agreed offhandedly, it went without saying that Stormborn out a-viking would only find glory. There was no other way.

"My band isn't far from here, my captain will probably want to hear this story." Maybe. He didn't know Ru very well, so he wasn't sure how he would react to a returning member from a previous viking. He had to imagine it wouldn't be seen in a bad light to have a comrade return, so Don wasn't too worried about the outcome.

Halvdan had missed his home, and he didn't feel right out here on his own. A Stormborn reaver without a band... unheard of! Oh, sure... he could wander around pestering random rogues on his own, but it wasn't the same and he knew it. He was glad that this male didn't question him further or asked him to prove he was who he said he was. But then any imposter would be found out by the captain of this raid. Surely it had to be an old, experienced lion that knew him as a reaver.

"I will go with you and talk to your captain then," he said, "It will be good to return home after all this time."

He thought about what he'd do if the captain wanted more details about his whereabouts since he was separated from his band. If he hadn't had iron in his blood he might have panicked a little at the thought. But he was a Stormborn, so he didn't. Perhaps... Perhaps he could say he fell and hit his head if the captain asked. Yeah, that was a decent excuse. It was embarrassing to say he had stumbled on an invisible turtle or something, but less embarrassing than the truth. However, he sincerely hoped he wouldn't have to use it.

Don nodded his heavy head, and turned to leave without further thought to the matter. He wasn't exactly a simple lion, but he figured the captain would be best discerning this situation than he was. For no other reason than Don was a new. He hadn't been in the pride for very long, so who was he to judge another's story? "Good," he would have hated to have dragged this guy all the way there if he turned coward. But then, he wouldn't really be Stormborn if that were the case, now would he?

The roguelands were an interesting place sometimes, he hadn't been expecting to find a lost and wandering brother of the Stormborn after all. Maybe a lioness to bring back as a thrall, or a small pride or group of lions to tell his band about and torment, but not this guy. It was almost disappointing. Ah well, there would be time for thralls and thrills later he supposed, after they had gotten back and had this ironed out. Without much else to say, Don led the way back to his band, eager to continue on their way.
