Reforming didn't mean everything was pretty again. The marker washed off, but just barely, leaving his pale skin looking red from so much face washing.
That Hunter. He took his hat. The hat Hel made just for him, and then to add insult to injury he drew on his face.
The Grim Reaper was upset. Upset, sad, depressed. He'd lost a lot lately. The second battle against a hunter in the last week or so he'd lost terribly. Mind you, the finishing blow was by his own hand both times.
He needed to work on that too.
The downtrodden reaper sulked his way to the roof of the Dorms to think. Think, sulk, and maybe run into a pretty Valkyrie.

Hel was doing all the things.
Today, she did happen to be running across the Reaper dorm’s roof…barefoot. Her steel plated boots kept causing her to slip on the roofing, and she found herself with better traction as she vaulted over gargoyle statues and dips and rises in the roof. A soft Thump thump thump could be heard as one came onto the roof.

He heard thumping about, so it was either a vigorous mini pet or a vigorous Hel. Turned out it was the latter, as Mot climbed up enough the catch his ghoul running barefoot. No doubt she was practicing her parkour.
The reaper simply sat upon one of the dipped parts of the roof as high up as he could, pulling his knees to his chest and resting down his chin.
The moment Hel's line of sight was in tun with him, he gave a short wave. He'd just watch her run for now.

Running and leaping across the roof, it was only a matter of time until she caught sight of a new obstacle in her environment. Hel paused, blinking as she saw Mot looking…dare she say…mopey? The ghoul gave a short wave back, and then of course, started to make her way over to him. She slid down one side of the steeped roof and pitter pattered her way over to him, taking a running start to trail her way up until she came to sit beside him. Hel leaned into him briefly before sitting up straight. “ ’Ello there, Motty…why the long face…?”

Mot watched as Hel made her way over, a small amount of joy creeping up. Her question was met with a frown, his eyes gazing downward on the roof tiles. He wasn't looking for sympathy, really. But he did need to let out his woes. "A hunter took my hat." He replied simply. There was no beating around the bush. That was what happened. "Honestly, why do I insist on keeping with me things that are so dear and precious?" He laughed at himself, resting his head down on his arms once again. "Did you know? I fought two hunters in the Haunted House in the last week or two. I lost both fights.. albeit it was because my weapon backfired..."

Something did seem to be…MISSING.
As soon as Mot said what, it all clicked. Hel’s eyes widened and her posture stiffened. She stared at him silently for a long moment before she grit her teeth and her fists clenched. “I will get whoever took your hat.” She snarled. While yes, she did make it, and that was upsetting that some false reaper took it…she was more upset for Mot’s loss. That was his.
Her expression then fell at the news. “…No…I did not know! Why…did you not say anything before then!?”

Ah, Hel getting protective. It was endearing, really. He would do anything for her, and she for him. Both had their own way of doting. Still, he didn't feel right about letting Hel fight his fight.
He shook his head at her question. "I don't know... I don't know why I didn't tell you. I'm not sure if it was shame or not. I'm telling you now though." He sighed, slouching ever more. "The first fight was with a wielder of a rifle. I managed to change the shape of my weapon to something similar; an attempt to better my accuracy. It did not work, and I ended up purposely collapsing the ceiling on us both. I don't know how he fared."
The reaper turned his head that still rested on his folded arms, looking up at his ghoulfriend. "The second was a man my height with long white hair. He wielded a bow with arrows. They were painful, and once again I proved no match for him. My last ditch effort was an attack that always does more harm than good to my body. Honestly I don't know why I rely on it."

Hel slammed her open palm on top of the roof, in-between them.
“There is no shame in trying, Mot, but you should have said something!” The reaper cried. “What if…what if they captured you!? Or made you dissipate permanently or…” Hel reached up to rub her head in frustration, the thought of something absolutely terrible happening to the cowboil making her stomach roll.
Mot’s skills were noted, but at this point, Hel didn’t seem to care that they backfired…just…
What if something worse than regular dissipation happened?

The slam startled the cowboil, flinching at the sound. His expression softened as she expressed her worries, frowning at himself. Gingerly, he reached out and held the ghoul beside him. "I'm sorry I never said anything. I'll text you next time I run into trouble."

Hel huffed, crossing her arms as Mot held onto her. She wanted to hold him back, but she was mad. She looked away from him.
“You better, Mot O’Boyle.” She grumped, her brows furrowing, already thinking about if she could find her way back to the Haunted House to maybe…maybe find that hunter who took his hat. Take it back.

She still seemed mad. She always seemed to be mad at him. He gave her space, leaning away and going back to the curled up form he'd been in prior.
"Oh, um... there was something else I wanted to ask you.." Now didn't seem a good time, but if he let it sit and wait, the right time may never come. "Did.. you know Prom is coming? I went last year, and it was one of the best nights of my life." This was a much better conversation, much nicer than earlier. Something to distract him from his woe.

Sudden and abrupt topic change threw the valkyrie off.
The ghoul blinked, looking perplexed as she uncrossed her arms and looked over at Mot with a raised brow. “…Prom…?” Hel echoed. Oh…prom was coming? “…No…I did not know…” Too busy training. She remembered when she first got to Amity and heard all about it. She’d been really excited to go! Now? Now it kind of felt like just a…thing. “…Ah…was it? I…heard many good things about it…”

Mot nodded, a smile forming on his face faintly. "It was certainly memorable. Riley threw me across the room, and me and Levi had a hoedown. I even won Prom Prince, and I still have the crown." He chuckled dryly. "Actually, I was really hoping to go again. I could use a fun party."
His eyes drifted to the pretty Valkyrie beside him, straightening his posture. "I was hoping you might be my date."

The reaper kept her gaze on him as he spoke. Huh. It really did sound like an interesting time. Her lips twitched a bit at the whole ‘Prom prince’ bit. For some reason that didn’t surprise her. “Well…go then? It is a school even I do not see why could no—“
Oh.
Hel blinked.
“…You were hoping I might be your date…for prom?” That didn’t sound like a very sure statement or…question? Hel probably would have jumped on this before the field trip business…now? In light of recent events? She seemed to be uncertain. A nagging voice in the back of her head said maybe Mot would have a better time if she didn’t go. She wanted Mot to have a good time. She didn’t want to ruin it for him.

"Well, yes." Mot said with a tilt of his head. Why did Hel seem surprised? Going to prom without his ghoulfriend? That was silly. Hel was silly. Why was she being so uncertain. Perhaps it was Mot's attitude. He was exuding a fair degree of defeat from his aura. The reaper straightened some more, turning his seated body toward the ghoul.
"Won't you go to Prom with me, Hel?" His eyes looked hopeful. If Hel said no, who knew what terrible woe would come over the sensitive cowboil.
