Puffy clouds hung in the air, inviting the sun to highlight the sky with golden rays. It had been raining for the past few days. Work had been hindered as a result for one dragon soquili. There was catching up to do! Shijin soared through the air very slowly. This type of flying was difficult, but with the right rhythm, could be maintained. Flying with this type of load was dangerous, but less risky than the steep descent out of the mountains. He only used this form of flight to clear the most rocky terrain. Now having passed most of that area, he gently touched the ground with his hooves. A most dainty feat for a soquili of his size and wing span. He had picked up one of his delivery's, and was taking it to a local shrine near the marshlands. Across his mid-section was a large leather band with two open satchels on either side. Each contained an exact measure of water. Due to the delicate nature of his package, he would walk to his destination. It would be the longest trek of the day, but the rest of his work could be taken by flight. This was one of his prized deliveries and he nurtured the package like a small babe. Peering inside the container on his left side, he smiled and started walking at a careful pace.

It was early afternoon when Silvra emerged tentatively from the shade of the tree line. She was a large mare for her kind but she walked softly, barely making a sound along the foliage underhoof. She squinted up at the blue sky, her long silver hair swaying in the light breeze, normally she was entirely nocturnal but she had learned that being so wouldn't allow her to meet the gentlefolk of this land. She flicked her tail, the sun beating down upon her midnight pelt, she was not used to heat, she had come from a land where snow and ice reigned, it was certainly odd, but it was lovely.
She looked around, she was a wanderer, looking for such places to visit and admire it's beauty, she had never seen so many green, wonderful things since coming to the Kawani lands, she was out to see, meet and taste the best this land had to offer her. She turned and headed back to the tree line where she could relax for a time in the shade, no use in getting sunburt for a view.

Shijin continued on towards the edge of the forest. The hot sun with such a shallow supply of water, and a long trek, would be unwise. Luckily, his large wing span, and leathery skin, created for some great shade for the pouch on his side! He wasn't worried about himself at all. Though his father was a dragon of ice, their white scales and leathery wings served as a means to cool the blood for the rest of the body. Although the heat didn't bother him, he far preferred the chill of fall or the bite of winter.
The straw and dead leaves strewn across the forest floor, mushed under his hooves. The sun broke through in patches, drying what land it could reach slowly. The dragon kirin was heavy, and left many small holes in the ground. Water escaped from the fresh exposed ground, and seeped into the hoof-prints behind him. This area was a bit more soft than most of the forest. The east side of the mountains contained many under ground streams and sink holes. Something he was very familiar with. Being that it had rained so heavily, the area was more marsh-like. Dirt began to clod between his cloven hooves, and stick to his white fetlocks.
The uncanny feeling of earth stuck to his ankles stopped him in his tracks. He looked down with temporary disdain. Around his ankle and tail lay a heaven-blue ribbon with star beads, bound loosely and gifted by his mother. They were getting muddy! This was unfortunate. How to bend down and untie them though? Hmm.. he pondered. There was no real way, with the sacks strapped to his back. Had he thought ahead, he would of tied them where they wouldn't drag in the dirt. Oh well.. He would have to wash them later. The thought was put in the back of his mind for now, turning back to his task at hand.

The shade was cool and water from a recent rain was still hanging heavy on the leaves, being a little wet didn't mind her, it felt good on her pelt and hovered like liquid crystals over her scales. She looked through the leaves and the canopy above, the birds perched there singing their feathery hearts out. She smiled, they reminded her of her friends, very colorful and talented at song. She walked for a time, stretching her legs, always interested to see more of this land and what it had to offer her, she did not bother that the mud clung to her feet, she was a traveler, a little mess was to be expected, It did not show so much on her midnight pelt. She came to a break in the tree line, where she had an expansive view of the area, it was quite something to behold, but it did not hold her attention for long, her eyes spotted something that did not belong, like one of those games the two leggers played...except this one wasn't so hidden.
A bright spot of blue with tints of purple flickered between the green and brown of the surrounding trees. What was that? Was someone else also traveling these lands? She peered at it, her vision wasn't the greatest, but the gleam of the sun off that color bespoke scales...perhaps...it was a kirin?
She started forward, towards that flicker in the trees, perhaps she would finally meet another of her breed from this land.

A thick branch cracked under the weight of his hoof like a small twig. The sound caused a stir in his pouch, and he spoke to it apathetically. "Sorry friend. I should watch where I tread, so as not to startle you." Normally he was a bit more careful. He had been too caught up in making sure he ignored his dirty feet, and had blocked out the natural instinct to watch where he was going! At least his traveling companion hadn't took a leap in fear.
The wind swept across the field, bringing the smell of the vast grassy surroundings. Shijin stopped as his senses picked up another underlying scent, a stranger. Being part dragon, he had a wicked strong sense of smell. Well, dragon was a term used to describe his origin. He is still a soquili just as any other, and was often mistakenly compared to halfblooded kirin-kalona. The fact was, he had no kalona blood, nor the conflicted emotions that went along with the crossbreeds of their kind. His kind, is a mystery to him. As soon as winter came, he intended to aid his father in rallying dragon-like together. It was his request, so that he might learn more than his fathers explanation of their decent.
With nostrils flairing, he turned his head, craining around to try and find the source of the smell. Like a shadowed mirage moving across the earth, he found sight of her easily. The monochrome mare looked to be no threat. These lands are thick with unseen dangers, so it's always a good thing to know who you are in company of, even if just passing by. He would have continued on, except it seemed the stranger was approaching him. Politely, he turned towards her, finding his manners. "Good afternoon." he nodded, pulling in his wing span slightly, so as not to appear too threatening with them spanned out at his sides.

She found the stranger even more interesting the closer she got to him, and it was definitely a him, though something else was apparent as she got closer to him. He was no ordinary kirin, maybe not one of her kind at all, though he had the scales of one...perhaps part of him was, but the rest was all very strange. She had never seen wings like his, at first glance she would have mistaken them for a kalonas batlike span, but no...these were different, the shape and webbing was all off. And those whiskers! She smiled through her usual politeness when encountering others for the first time, it was not nice to find things like that funny. He reminded her of a etherial catfish!
She stopped a polite distance away and dipped her head in greeting, her silvery hair whispering along the ground with her movement " Good avternoon" She responded in kind "I saw you from a fair distance avay." She flicked an ear " You are vury easy to spot in a forezt of green." She laughed a little, the sound velvety despite her thick accent. It seemed like his coat was attuned to the stars as hers was, he even had accessories with stars tied about him and upon the pearly horn that seemed so much like her own. She was the midnight sky, and he was the passing twilight with it's blues and purple hues. She enjoyed that thought, but she would not immediately assume he took as much from the stars as she did.
" I do not alvays get the chance to meet otherz." She said simply " Thiz is a rare treat, so, allov me to introduze myself, my name iz Forsilvra, or simply Silvra if it iz easier to say." She tilted her head a tad " You are very interezting to me, i have never seen your like before. Vhat iz your name?"

The sound of her accent rang through his ears, delighting his senses. One becomes accustomed to seeing the same faces, and hearing the same voices in a day to day environment. Whenever a new face, or a new voice is introduced, it gives something fresh to ones life. That feeling can be in different strength, depending on how common or uncommon that soquili is. Shijin himself is a sucker for the more exotic looks and sounds of life. Her voice is truly unique indeed! He could listen to her talk all day.
It was pleasant to have someone say he was interesting. He would have to agree. Silvra seemed quite interesting herself, like a crystallized onyx kirin. "Well. Then it is my pleasure to share in this moment where you get to meet someone new! I..." he said with a most theatrical scoop of one wing dipped to the side, and a bow of his head. "..am Shijin." he finished, looking up at her. Though, his wing still had to fit over the pack at his side, and was perhaps not as dramatic as he thought. Shijin wasn't overly dramatic, but liked to show enthusiasm. If someone is happy, show them that you are happy that they are happy. The flow of socialism is much easier when you treat it with respect.
He straightened upright, and shifted his weight on his hooves. "Silvra, like silver. I won't forget that name. I will see that pretty long hair of yours, and easily remember." Paying a compliment seemed harmful enough, but he hadn't thought it through. What if she thinks he is hitting on her?! He normally wouldn't say things like that, but it came out of his mouth either way. The level of awkwardness would depend on her reaction. Maybe it would be as harmless as it was intended to be.

Silvra smiled at the strange stallion and even wider at his honeyed comments about her hair. She was mighty fond of her hair, it had been a point of pride for her and her family, which was known for their long flowing locks. She was unused to dealing with stallions in any kind of romantic manner, having never had to deal with that when she was younger, instead, giving all of her love to the stars which could not return the warmth she traded. She thought this stallion very interesting, his movements and gestures quite cute. She chuckled, her voice velvety " It iz good to meet you Shijin" She flicked her tail tip, the ring on the end chiming " And I thank you for the kind compliment, I do not recieve many, and fewer so around these lands. Being usually nocturnal it iz...difficult to see otherz" Her nostrils flared as she inhaled a deep breath of air, it was cool and sweet at this elevation, she breeze teased her mane and it only served to deepen her smile " It is odd to meet anyone on my travels, even though I've only come here recently." Her silver gaze caught his " Vhat are you doing here may i ask? Traveling, like me?" She tilted her head as she caught a glimpse of the pack he was carrying very gingerly. " Or are you on some mission ov some kind?" She queried " Vhen I vas still in the mountains ov my homeland I had to carry thingz to other camps ov the stars" She chuckled " ah, but thiz is not my home, and i doubt that has much to do vith the stars eh?"

Phew! The compliment was accepted by Silvra without her missing a beat. It felt good to compliment her. By her response, he gathered that she was not from around here. "You are new to the area then Silvra?" He could see why she might be nocturnal. With that ebony coat of hers, she would expend less energy being out at night. During the day, it could prove to be exhausting depending on the time of year. Shijin was a night owl, but wouldn't consider himself nocturnal. He liked to stay up as late as needed to get things done, and sleep till mid afternoon.
Her silk spun silver eyes were met, and followed as she gazed at his pouch. That pouch was the most important part of his day, or rather the delicate soul it carried. There was two pouches though, and having took note of her dark coat, he decided he would offer her a drink from the empty pouch first. Also, he liked the idea of building up suspense to the prize in this pouch that she was gazing upon.
"For today, I am playing the role of a traveler, though I will at some point return to the forest high in the mountains. As a traveler, I understand how deadly this heat can be. Might I offer you a drink from this pouch?" he gestured to the other side of him, but it was no use. His idea was spoiled as the occupant of the pouch moved about, causing a little bit of a splash. In response, he gave a hearty chuckle. "It seems my friend wants to meet you first." He was okay with this too.
Lifting up his wing, he revealed the purest white butterfly koi. As it so happened, she was only loosely related to the stars. This was only a coincidence. Most of his koi were just koi. This koi was set to be delivered to a local shrine, and was believed to be blessed by the spirits. "Normally they don't have much to do with the stars." He looked at Shijin, wanting to see her reaction to a fish in his pouch! "Her name is Star Angel. Named after an elite group of angels who patrolled the universe and heavens, ensuring it's safety. Angel will serve to help bring harmony to a local shrine."
Shijin let his chest swell. He was quite proud of Angel. Even though the spirits do not gift koi with the ability to communicate with soquili, she was still very intelligent...for a fish. He watched on as the koi lay still, and made it's fishy lips at Silvra.((Star Angel would look about like this: [x]))
