"I absolutely will not."
The tiny figure reinforced their statement by raising their staff around a little too eagerly as he flickered through what looked like several large screens, images of events playing across them like various Skell-o-vision channels.
"I have no interest in meddling with time," Medea began, amused as the other's form shifted, now a middle-aged ghost holding a longer version of the very same staff - how they never got tired working like this she would never know, "I ask of simply memories. Time continues to move forwards. Memories remain the same."
"I appreciate you attempting to lecture me on my domain, but memories are part of what I manage, and even tampering with them can lead to unprepared consequences." He sighed, aged form now stroking his long beard. "Why you think I would accept such a preposterous request from you is just-"
"- Because you already know, do you not?" She circled around the other, speaking slowly now. "He walked with dreams and darkness, and he found A doom that ever poised itself to fall."
Silence. "Sentiments, human sentiments, perhaps you know as well as I do, perhaps not." They were a small ghost of a child again, hovering in mid-air as they finally reached one end of a long series of pendulums hanging from the infinite ceiling, pulling something out. A simple trinket.
"Consider this borrowed, very briefly and temporarily. I have another customer after you."
"You know I do not lose things," the Head Priestess accepted the item however, politely in both hands, giving a low nod, "I promise this will be my last request."
He said nothing as she left, flat expression betraying just the slightest hints of annoyance by the way he gripped his staff just slightly tighter. Distractions. Too many of them.
The worst part was both of them knew this was by far the last request.

Today was not just any old Frightday, there was rumours that it was Field Trip day. And not just any old field trip: apparently it was an approved field trip taught by one of the mythical Lost Clan representatives.
Ever since the Lost Clan had moved to their official reserve on to Halloween, there had been several rumours circulating throughout town regarding this turn of events, and Amityville was no exception to the gossip mill. Why were they here now? Why had they moved from their old lands - the most widespread rumour, as confirmed by the Halloween Daily, also known as the largest and most popular news press in circulation - was that the original Four Clans had had a war within itself, and had collapsed due to several opposing forces. Internal conflict, hush, hush, such details were not to be elaborated or they would make their new guests angry.
Nonetheless, it was both with speculation and hesitation that greeted the official Lost Clan representative, the entire smaller auditorium cleaned just for this occasion. The last large field trip outing by a guest lecturer would have been the DETH awareness lecture by Professor QB, and the one before that even more of a taboo to mention still, though just the thought of the Lost Clan seemed much more intriguing and adventurous. What were they even up to in their reserve anyway? What were their plans now that they joined Halloween?
Curiosity was as good a motivator for attendance to this large scale field trip as any.
Already, as students entered the auditorium, there were several figures already gathered, notably two professors, just on their way out, and Arel, who seemed to be both everywhere and nowhere at once these days. The secretary was whispering in not so hushed tones at the other, one of the notable figureheads of the Lost Clan, Medea. She was already working with what had to be an imported pyre, though how it fit though even the double doors was another question. There was none of the usual fragrance, though: a small, odourless fire was quickly building up from the dried wood and metal, emitting a sensible warmth that seemed to be making the secretary even more uncomfortable.
"As I told you already, Arel, if you have an issue with Trance, you are free to come along. We will not be disturbing what yo-"
-"No no, I got it, that's fine." The secretary quickly interrupted, looking all the more nervous and uncomfortable, "It's just - just trance right? The usual? Nothing fishy?"
The Head Priestess smiled almost patronizingly. "I promise you, nothing fishy. Though if you still want to come along, there is more than enough to learn for those who are willing to open their minds to the guidance of Death, as all paths-"
Medea did not even manage to finish her sentence before Arel quickly hightailed it out of there as if his shoes suddenly caught a case of panty crabs. There might have been a word here or there that suspiciously sounded like 'Suspending Prom Indefinitely' as he passed the students.
A loud crackle emitted from the burning pyre, reinforcing its presence as the flames dulled to a deep crimson. "Thank you for attending my lecture, for those of you who do not know, I am the Head Priestess of the Lost Clan, Medea, I seek only to teach and guide those willing to learn the art of Trance, an art unique to the Lost Clan."
That alone seemed to draw interest in many students, those who did not have a chance to take the exchange program especially. Several seemed doubtful as whispers broke out: would it hurt? Did it leave any marks? What exactly was Trance?
"Trance is a way to view paths without disturbing the flow of everything else," Medea elaborated, another softer crackle from the flames interrupted the flow of her sentence, "By viewing potential paths, paths that happened, paths that may have happened, paths that could happen, you also learn to expand your own horizons, to see beyond your own path. It is an art and a skill, and today I will have the honour of showing you the way of Trance. Now, your school headmistress has asked that instead of the usual paths we take as the Lost Clan, we will instead, follow the path taken by your very school, Amityville. That means you are privileged to walk in the footsteps of those who have been in your very school."
"I must explain to you now that there are two different types of Trance. One that explores potential outcomes, potential futures or pasts that most likely will never occur, due to simple guidance and intuition in our part. The second is the past that has already occurred or more dangerously, the future that is now occurring. We will take the safest route now, simply explore the past, and view through Trance what already has occurred. Do not worry, your bodies will be safe, and you will simply be viewing, not actively participating. Each student will view a different path, the path of a different memory, a unique individual. Whatever decisions they make they have already made, this past is already set, the only exercise is to view and understand the power and ability of Trance."
A soft jingle from her jewelry as she moved her arm forward, poised over the pyre. There was something in her hand, a trinket, a small necklace or pendant perhaps? It flashed, once, twice and then- OOC WELCOME TO DEFENDERS!A couple of points to get you started. Please read below! gaia_crown [ SIGN UP FOR DEFENDERS BY POSTING A REACTION POST IN THIS THREAD FOR YOUR STUDENT: ] If your character has made a post to ATTEND THIS LECTURE ANYWHERE BELOW IN THIS THREAD, congratulations, they are now a part of this Defenders storyline! Please ask any questions you may have in the Q& A HERE. The Defenders entire storyline will most likely be one week long, please check in the EVENTS SUBFORUM to see what to do next. - You can only sign up with one student, so think carefully! If you have a special role character then it is that character/student that is auto signed up. If you do not have a student you can still rp a disposable (proceed to signups below) AS LONG as you have either a Hunter OR Horsemen! gaia_crown [ CREATING A DISPOSABLE: ] As ICly mentioned by Medea, your character is now in Trance and are viewing a "path", a character in the past's point of view. That means your character is ICly viewing a first person's POV from that past disposable. This disposable may or may not die, please be open to the fact that pretty much 99% of the characters will possibly die. - What does this mean for your OOCLY? It means that you OOC will have your character parked in the VIEWING parking lot and pick up a DISPOSABLE. You will now need to write a DISPOSABLE form. Now, before we get started there are some ground rules, so please read them before continuing. - Also once again everyone with a student is free to join so PLEASE hop in, this is a GREAT chance to develop your character without actually harming them! gaia_crown [ STEP 1: LOOK AT THE DISPOSABLE DROP OFF FORM: ] - All characters will drop off their disposable form in this thread HERE. No, we will NOT be reading them for the most part. We just want you to make one so you have a good idea of what you're going to be doing with your character. If I have contacted you about a SPECIAL ROLE, then think carefully when creating that form. Please note in that form also your character's FACTION ALIGNMENT (see below). gaia_crown [ STEP 2: Select an ALIGNMENT for your character: ] Your character is already considered to be one of these THREE factions (choose one). Think of these as school clubs, but some carried out in secret. Basically, not all students agree with each other, and they all have their own methods and ways, to the point where they have broken down into three major groups: Defenders: A group lead notoriously by the werewolf Red, they enforce the law of duty and justice to not just Amityville, but hopefully all of Halloween town when they graduate. They fight for what they believe in, and always take pro-active measures to do what they believe is right. They think that most of Halloween will not protect them, so they have to protect themselves and of course, their school. DETH: A smaller club that advocates peace-keeping and human shelter and co-existence. They are an official school club that looks out for the well-being of all creatures, be it Human, minipet, or even their fellow peers. No violence and love and respect for all creatures co-existing together in harmony is their number one rule. SCREAM: Not really a club or a faction, but simply a catch-all in between, mainly a group of dissenters that vary from peaceful protest to stealthy sabotage. They are school-level students who occasionally have a common interest point. gaia_crown [ STEP 3: Read about the general background setting: ] - This setting takes place a couple of decades back, when several notable characters, including Amityville professors were in school themselves. Of course, while your actual student is watching, they cannot actually themselves influence the events occurring, they simply can only watch. That means you will be rping entirely on the POV of the disposable from this point onwards, free to make decisions, interact with NPC and events as you please AS THAT DISPOSABLE CHARACTER. - ICly it is like watching a movie in first person, your student can't control what the disposable character is going to do, but OOCly you are making all the decisions that occur in this timeline for your DISPOSABLE CHARACTER that may affect also how your student will perceive things in the future. - With this in mind, your disposable character is a graduating student from Amityville, scheduled to graduate next month actually! They have high hopes and aspirations, and hope to advertise their skills and abilities at the festival they've been preparing all year, their graduation Jack-o-Lantern Festival, where they will be showcasing everything they can offer to Halloween when they graduate. Basically a way to get themselves noted to get hired. Things are busy these last few weeks, and it will only get busier as the Jack-O-Lantern festival is tomorrow! gaia_crown [ STEP 4: Submit your disposable forms: ] All disposable forms should be submitted by Saturday June 2nd at 11:59 PM PST. After that the OFFICIAL story arc will begin! Once again, these forms are for YOURSELF only, we do not really care what you write in it, it is simply for you to get ground on what your character is like. gaia_crown [ STEP 5: After submitting in your form, you can now RP!: ] - After submitting in your disposable form, you can not take your disposable for a test run! Read this RP HERE, and then follow the prompts as given by the OOC post!

Trance. Shehk had delved into that once upon a time and it had sent her into a sort of mad frenzy, and then panic. But it had been an experience in and of itself and given the opportunity, she was willing to delve into it once again. More information.
more something. Yeah, she was going to get more something and she was going to like it, dammit! Maybe answers. A glance around the room told her Jericho was hermitting away somewhere, prompting her to frown just a bit before she sighed, moving into find a place around the Pyre. She passed a glance towards Medea, making a mental note. Trance, could it be used to potentially find a cure for Insanity?
For her to save Jericho?
She wasn't sure. All she knew was that she had all of the feelings and she somehow knew she was going to have to be here - for the long haul. No matter how long she had to sit there and delve, she would discover. She would learn. She would know. That was what she needed. She needed to know and she needed to save the one who was important to her. Her chest ached a bit.
She wouldn't lose anybody else. Anything she could do was worth doing. She would trance and look into the past. Find her place, find some sort of peace, she guessed.

Somehow, as he stood in the auditorium, Ren had one thought running continuously through his mind:
Why on earth was he here when there was talk of a "Field Trip."
Just the two words alone - field trip - had Ren shuddering in disgust. The last time there had been a field trip, he had chosen to opt out of it while LW had gone - and she had returned with the news that the Isles of the Four Clans had been destroyed. Before that, it had been the whole ordeal with the hunters, and then that thing with the Christmas...
Needless to say, the whole concept of a field trip seemed both horribly familiar and like a Very Bad Idea.
So why was he here, again?
Sitting in the back, one leg crossed over the other, with his hands in his pockets, Ren leaned against the empty seats behind him, a small frown on his face. He wasn't entirely certain why they were here - more specifically, why the head of the Lost Horseman Clan was here, standing in front of what looked like some sort of pyre, from which emanated a small fire. The secretary, as tiny and anxious as ever, was looking at it with a very wary expression before he disappeared from the room, leaving only Medea standing in front of them.
Trance..? Ren thought, idly twisting a lock of his hair, feeling once again too short (maybe he shouldn't have cut it so hastily; the lack of weight was unfamiliar...). He wasn't too sure how much he trusted the horsemen, especially after what LW had told him had happened on the Islands, but Medea seemed to have no harmful intent as it was, and her smile was kind. And besides that, the entire concept of this...Trance thing...was very interesting.
He scratched his chin thoughtfully, eyes narrowing a little. They would be viewing the past, something about Amityville - and perhaps that would answer some of the questions that had been lingering in his head for a while now, ideas mixed with confusion and uncertainty, anger and frustration. He did not know what exactly they would be viewing - or why, for that matter - but this chance seemed as though it were a rare one.
It really left only one decision, despite all of Ren's apprehensions and disgust for these "Field Trips."
He would not lose this chance.

Sin was back and damn excited about it. After her parents had yanked her out of Amityville Academy and held her practically prisoner over the last few months she had been desperate to return. Of course it was just her luck to return to school completely clueless as to the events that had occurred since her last field trip and Red's untimely demise. She wandered towards the gathering and listened in confusion to the talk of learning Trance. Trance? Clans? She was still trying to understand what had happened since she was away, but she was always up for a school field trip...though she had yet to experience one that hadn't ended...poorly.

Anna had missed out entirely on the field trip; she'd heard rumors about the trips, about how scary and dangerous they could be. The witchling had quailed at the idea of going on one herself, but she wanted to get more involved in the school. Being on the periphery, not knowing anything but rumors... she wanted to know for herself.
She wanted to be brave.
Thus, Anna had prepared herself with a sort of grim courage, only to find herself taken aback when she realized the 'field trip' actually involved no traveling whatsoever. Exploring the past, seeing what had already happened? The witchling relaxed in her seat, her grip on Shibey slackening. This would just be like watching fancy skelevision, right? Easy! She could handle this.
The smoke smelled so strange. Anna took a deep breath, and-

She was so ready for this.
Every time she talked to Herryk, the fire burned brighter. She wanted to do something. She wanted to be an active force in the fight against whatever they were up against! She wanted to make a difference, jackdamnit! It was easier when she just stayed away from all this horsiemen nonsense. Just ignoring the problem made life a nicer place to live. But Herryk couldn't ignore it anymore, and that meant she couldn't, either. After what they'd done to Hel..
Well, Freya was hungry for a little revenge. And the first step to fighting the good fight was finding out a little more about what you're fighting against!
So she promised herself, the next time some horsiemen thing happened, she was so totally there.
And then, a horsiemen thing happened.
And she was so totally there.
She was going to make Herryk proud. And she was going to protect Hel, and everybody else she loved, as much as she could. By.. uh.. well, apparently, by watching the past through someone elses eyes.
Freya almost completely forgot the actual reason she'd come, and just sat down, enraptured at the idea of getting to watch history come to life. This sounded so cool.
She was so totally there.

Field trip was a rather... frightening word given the previous ventures from the school. It was not like the had been safe. Quite the contrary, they had been dangerous and life threatening. Not to mention mentally scarring. Something that Israfel was only now beginning to cope with after nearly two years. Not quite that long but close. Very close. He'd forced himself to adapt and now, his adaption was haunting him in unexpected ways. Not the worst thing but it was annoying being able to look back on one's actions and think how if you had been of sound mind, things would have been better. After the isles had fallen, the siren was reluctant to trust the horsemen. Even more so after his talk with the hunter. If it was true, they were not to be trusted in the slightest. They should not even be tolerated if it was true. The wary behavior was unlike his normal self, and his blue eyes flicked to Medea as she spoke. Trance on the island of Death had shown him a fate. The King-Queen. His right and future should he pursue it. An unwanted future really, yet a needed one if he wanted to change his flock's ways. To change the way his people delt with humans and FEAR. Wings shuffling at his back, the small flap let him slide over to where there were few, and it was near a route of escape. Trance didn't harm him before...but it worried him. He didn't want to see a future that he had no desire for. A past? That was just as worrisome. The past was just as unknown as the future, and yet he would take part, get answers. He would see about the horsemen, and what they desired, if anything aside from revenge. ------------------------------ The Wolfos was wary of the horsemen. His minimal encounters with them had not been particularly pleasant. Changed into a minipet by one and carried around by Jack for a day, and another had been wearing the pelt of a wolf. They were a mystery and an enigma which he had no reason to personally trust as of yet. He did however, abide by the school, and did desire to see what it was all about. He could not let his personal feelings remove him from an opportunity to learn, and to increase his knowledge was why he'd come to the school in the first place. To be a good leader, he needed to have insight. He needed to be a learned individual, knowing and wise. Wisdom would come with age, but for now, he would try to gain it from this 'Trance'.

Amphi wasn't sure about the lost clans still. She had witnessed death on their isle's and pain and worst, she had witnessed hunters who didn't hunt them for who they were but were soliders who were figthing for their life just as much.
She didn't know what to believe, who to believe. She wanted to get to know the hunters but was terrified that they didn't feel the same. So when she heard about another...field trip, she had hoped they would be confronting the hunters again. Perhaps she could find one to talk to if she could.
She listened to the lecture though, listened to this....Trance idea and blinked. Knowledge without pain. She could see things, perhaps those questions she wanted answered to be answered. She waited as the light blinked, her eyes watching with fascination.
And she faded.....
"Arcana-" She whispered as she fell into memories.

It was true that Charlie was there the first time on a field trip to the islands. There they had first met clans members and strange people with hoods that wanted them off their island for some reason. The pink haired demon had even experienced death first hand while on that trip.
However, the cold hard truth was that Charlie was Charlie. Most of the details of the horrific events that had unfolded while on the island were completely fuzzy to Charlie. Understanding anything that had gone on was another story entirely - so the thought of going on a field trip really didn't bother Charlie. He had friends advise him to stay away from such things but the demons happy - go - lucky ways tended to have him forget certain details of conversations.
Charlie was game for sure. There was no changing his mind. Every time his friends came back from a field trip they seemed to know things he didn't and they tended to hide things. Not that the demon was clever enough to realize that things were being hidden. There was a gap between him and them though and he could feel it but couldn't explain it. He probably couldn't explain the complex yet simple reasoning that had led him to decide to be okay with a field trip.
It could be that Charlie was being given to much credit and was just there by mistake but even for Charlie that seemed a little to simple minded and dim.
'Trance' sounded like the stuff he was pumping out of his head phones.

Learning without the chance of dying? It sounded too good to be true. No trip Mort had been on had gone without costing his life one way or another, and even with the head priestess assuring them it would be painless he sat with a little frown and reserved judgment. The last time they had been put to a dream by the horsemen, he had the privilege of watching his teammates die and get converted one by one until he himself felt his very essence condensed into a heartless weapon. Frankly, he was surprised he'd even shown up.
But the fact was Mort knew it would kill him to miss the event. The prospect of missing out something, even this "Trance" he so distrusted, almost literally pained him. And he knew most of his friends and Bells were going to be a part of it; it would be practically traitorous to shut himself in his room and ignore the tempting offer to see through time. He couldn't sit idly by when history was to be learned, and who knew - maybe there was something to be gained from this field trip after all. Maybe for once it would be pleasant as opposed to downright nightmarish.
. . . And maybe Cuptuplets could fly.
He gave the pyre a dark look before bracing himself and inhaling, the glint in Medea's hand the last thing he saw before going into a slumbering autopilot.

It wasn't the first time Lumi had found herself wandering in to a place that she probably shouldn't have wandered but there were other students here and a pyre that looked vaguely familiar. She slowly walked closer to the pyre and listed the head priestess talk about Trance, standing closer enough to the pyre to hear the words but far enough away that she didn't accidentally knock anything over.
Taking a deep breath her mind slowly started to drift off allowing the Trance to bring up memories, not hers but someone in the past. Her mind racing a million thoughts before going on autopilot. The only one that seemed coherent was,
"why...."

Curiosity was something Belladonna had in a great abundance, so it served her well when she caught wind of this so called 'field-trip'. At first the words had sent an unwelcome shiver down her spine, but when she reasoned it out, it became clear that she really needed to go. There was undoubtedly handy information to be gathered on this trip and since Belladonna had been rather out of the loop lately, information was very valuable. So she shook off all her fears and marched her pretty little witch self right down to the auditorium.
Ummmm, this wasn't a field trip. Field trips meant off-campus. Not in the auditorium. Was this some kind of trick? You couldn't just-- Whatever. There was a pyre and a pretty priestess and ooohhhhh~ Priestesssss~ And when she started talking about trances, Belladonna was hooked. Field trip, smhield scrhip. Didn't care. Priestess, trances and pretty jewelry.
Of course, this most certainly wouldn't be the same kind of trance that she was potentially interested in. She wanted a trance about the future, one that could tip the scales of this strange brewing Hunter fight in her favor. That was the kind of trance Ms. Pretty Priestess was going on about right? Belladonna couldn't be sure since she'd found her lovely new boilfriend and had properly seated herself next to him. Though the witch had been a little foolhardy with her own actions lately, she hoped that this 'field trip' would be easy and not traumatic. She certainly didn't need any more trauma and her lovely Mort probably couldn't even handle anymore. Sure, it offered the promise of safety, but there was more than one way to harm a person and a mental harm was just as painful. For a moment, Belladonna wondered how this trance thing would work, would she still have control or something similar? Maybe she should actually pay attention to what the lovely Priestess was saying...
The smell and bright light of the pyre caught her attention and with a snap Belladonna focused on it, on the Priestess, on the little trinket that dangled down from her hand. Systematically she shut down her mind, making sure to properly block off all thoughts and cease any sort of external twitching her body wanted to do. Meditation wasn't something she did often, or even very well, but this was serious. So for at least today, she'd give it a good ol', witchy try. It must have worked too, because she only heard a soft jingle from the jewelry and a bright flash before...

Field trip, field trip... There wasn't one time where these two words meant anything more than suffering of some sort, be it physical, mental, or both. However, having missed the last one, she decided to attend this one - only to be promised that this field trip was one that would come without pain. This 'trance' thing she had heard of it, but it would be her first time experiencing it for herself. While dubious, it wasn't like she had a say in the matter...
After all, she was already here.
--
Thanatos, on the other hand, was more than happy to be in Trance. He had enjoyed the first time that it happened, after all... Once he breathed in the incense, he relaxed, and allowed his mind to wander.

Danny was ready for whatever s**t they gave her. So when she found out they were doing a simple sort of meditation exercise? She was all for it. She had no idea what was in store for her.
She just wanted to fight back, and field trips always meant a way to do it.
Almost always.
The light blinked, and she was lost in the memories.
